My lap blanket made out of Tunisian crochet stitch pattern samples is nearly done.
I only have the tiresome, and boring, work of weaving in ends left, and attempt some kind of blocking of the blanket.
It's wonky and I love it. All squares are the same number of stitches and rows, but the different patterns build height/width differently.

Time for another lace style...
We will eventually get around to learning all of these, which one do you want to learn first?
Also we have many more styles planned, these are just the styles we have good tutorial resources for so far.
These styles all require some specialty tools/supplies, which I've listed below the cut in case that's a deciding factor for people. Pretty much everything can be DIY'd or repurposed from some other common objects, and this information will be shared as part of the lace-along :)
Bobbin lace:
Thread (e.g. sewing thread, embroidery floss) (edit by mod Rex: crochet cotton or perle cotton preferable for beginners)
Bobbins (24 for the sampler we will do)
Bobbin lace pillow
Pattern printed or drawn out
Pins with small heads (a whole lot of em)
(edit by Mod comfy: I dipped my toes in this already, you can use clothespins as bobbins (basically everything that holds some thread and can be moved around comfortably), and some sturdy cardboard as a pillow. Your "pillow" just needs to be sturdy enough to keep the pins in place for the time you work on the lace, so if you have a couch pillow that could work, go for it)
Drawn thread lace:
Plain-woven linen or cotton fabric, with large enough threads you can comfortably see individual threads at a comfortable working distance
Sewing thread in the same colour as your fabric
Fine blunt-tipped needle
Fine tipped scissors or seam ripper and a steady hand
Lacis/ filet lace
Sturdy thread/ twine/ crochet cotton
Netting shuttle/ netting needle
Netting gauge/ mesh stick (e.g. dowel, knitting needle, smooth popsicle stick or similar)
Blunt tapestry needle
Some method of tensioning the net for embroidery: mesh frame/ embroidery hoop/ stiff paper to tack net down to
Needle lace:
Paper pattern printed or drawn out
Backing fabric (e.g. sturdy medium weight calico) (will not be part of finished piece)
Sticky backed plastic/ clear packing tape
Lace thread (e.g. crochet cotton, perlee, stranded cotton, silk thread)
Regular sewing thread in a contrasting colour for tacking down pattern (will not be part of the finished piece)
Sharp needle to tack down pattern
Blunt needle to make lace
Tweezers
Fine tipped scissors
Thimble (optional)
Sprang:
Sprang frame (e.g. empty backless picture frame, DIY frame made of sticks, two dowels tied to sturdy objects an appropriate distance apart)
Sturdy cord or crochet cotton
Smooth dowels/rods, 4-6 of them?

While I did my square with the "Diagonal rib lace" last week I did make a small mistake and had to rip back a few times, though since I liked the effect that mistake had, I'm now doing a square doing it that way.
Not sure what I should call this though, it is a kind of lacy pattern however.
White may not have been the best choice for being able to photograph and show though....

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
here's my second (then pictured complete with first) third and fourth pieces of bobbin lace from this year (technically I made one other thing before this but years ago)
(The first three are the whole stitch then half stitch bookworms and the torchon ground bookmark from Dye & Thunder's beginners book; the fourth is a sampler of cloth stitch, half stitch, and whole stitch/cloth stitch and twist from an IOLI Introduction to Bobbin Lace book.)
Then the beginning of my first attempt at Armenian needle lace, based on a video tutorial by BecomeInspired on youtube. (This is size 5 DMC perle cotton in shade 742). It's not basically difficult to do but I think you have learn to judge the loop sizing. I've worked further on this since and it eventually got a bit ruffly. (I'm pretty sure it should be more visible if you click on the picture)
Finally, an attempt at the primary motif in the Cherry Blossom shawl from Tomoko Morimoto's New Tatting, but it isn't planar (doesn't lie flat). I mostly blame this on having no idea how to upsize the thread space measurements given from "silk thread" (??) to size 10 crochet cotton since for some reason I like the idea of this in the yellow/white mix that is Aunt Lydia's "mimosa"

If you're still taking Red Dead asks could I plz have some headcanons for Molly? She's just so sad and I love that romantic Irish lass that got in over her head.
Hey! Here ya go. I've written some other Molly one's here, if you're interested. Hope you enjoy!
Expect Molly to write random poems for you when the moment strikes her. Dutch did not appreciate them, but the moment she realized she had an interested reader, the romantic in her turned her attention to you instead.
Loves to dance! We see her dancing with Dutch in quite an intimate way; with you, it's timider as she's new to relationships with women. However, she gains confidence quickly, and it's not long until she's grabbing you by the arm to dance with the cozy fire sparking behind the two of you.
The woman can't cook, and who's surprised? No one. However, she has become quite a good thief. Even if you can't cook, it's bound to be better than half the stuff Pearson makes. She's always trying to find spices she can discretely place into a pouch for the evening.
She's no forager, but if you have the skills, she'd love you to teach her! If you don't know how to forage, she'd love to find a book so you can learn together…..as long as someone like Charles or Hosea approves your findings before using them.
She knows Gaelic and is passionate about keeping the language alive. She'll call you terms like A chara (My treasure) or "A rúnsearc" (My Secret Love.) or phrases like "Is ceol mo chroí thú" (you're the music of my heart"). Gaelic is a beautiful language and very poetic, just like her. She will teach you some if you're truly interested, but she also likes being able to have a language that is her little secret with you. Source here.
Her favorite candy is chocolate-covered strawberries or strawberry bonbons, but she knows they're incredibly rare. However, you always save up (or steal) some for her when you go to town.
She loves tea. One of her love languages is making you a cup of tea after a rough day. She doesn't have a lot of it, but she certainly can get a hold of some of it from time to time.
Molly loves needlepoint art! She had quite an impressive sampler back in Ireland. She has definitely left little surprises like her latest project in your tent. She wouldn't mind learning to crochet gloves or even a blanket.
She can play the piano and loves to sing. She'd sound good with some of the other gang members if she joined in with their songs. It's a shame she's rarely around pianos. It's something she has in common with Abigail.
She can be overprotective and sometimes a little overbearing. She doesn't mean to be; she's just tired of losing people in her life. At least you appreciate it more than some people in the gang….
