Kickstarter for the Amigurumi Makers!
Hi everyone! Sorry for the absence of posts on this blog again 😅 I was laid off mid-Feb and all of my brain space has been reserved for refreshing my skills and job-searching, but hopefully I'll be back to work soon and then I can queue up some more posts here! (It takes me hours... I also need to find a better way to do that...)
ANYWAY
I wanted to make this post about a Kickstarter that I am incredibly excited about!!!
Tumblr media
These Safety Eye Snappers that can be used to easily add safety eyes to your amigurumi without all the hand and finger pain!!!
As a chronic pain girlie myself, I started following this product the second I heard about it's existence lol
The kickstarter just went up so I wanted to mention it here for anyone who might be interested!
If you've never used Kickstarter before, please make sure you're informed about how it works! Research to your heart's content to make sure you're comfortable. The gist is that projects are all-or-nothing based on whether they reach their funding goal, so if you back a project that doesn't end up reaching it's goal, you don't receive any rewards you pledged for, but you also aren't charged anything.
As of writing this post, though, this Kickstarter looks to be fully funded!!!!
Note: I am not at all affiliated with this product or the team behind it, they have no idea of my existence, and I get nothing from any pledges anyone makes. I have not tried the product in-person myself at all. They don't know I exist. I'm just a girl who's incredibly excited about the existence of this product. Like I kinda wanted to cry when I found out about this because getting safety eyes on amigurumi is so hard and hurts so much :')
Here's the Kickstarter link again if you're interested, and I hope to get back to posting crochet patterns here soon! Hope you all are doing well! 💕💕💕🧶

Turns out a soldering iron is a great finishing tool for 3D prints, as long as you can put the seam somewhere relatively hidden. I print my crochet hooks in two pieces for quality reasons (the shape is really tough for a 3D printer to handle with good print quality *and* no supports; I don’t like supports on stuff made to use with hands, it’s hard to completely get rid of the roughness without tons of sanding). It took a lot of trial and error but hiding the join where there’s already a somewhat natural seam is working out pretty well!

Lion Brand Stress Relief Gloves for Knitters, Hit or Miss?
Lion Brand Stress Relief Gloves brings a new option for wrist comfort for many crafters, it’s slightly compressing made with Nylon and Spandex so it doesn’t have that cotton thick feel these gloves are both breathable and lightweight. As someone who lives in compression garments, I would estimate these gloves are only about 5mmhg to 10mmhg of compression. While the glove part of the gloves are a single ply on either side there are two seams that do press into the hand with use, so they do leave temporary marks; something to keep in mind if you crochet before an important or photographic event. The wrist part however is two ply going around which does provide a little extra wrist support like a level 1 wrist support depending on size of glove to hand.
As a former violinist I do already suffer from angry wrist syndrome (tendinitis - mild) plus crocheting a king size blanket in a month which completely pulled me from crocheting for almost 6-8 months. That being my prior history hopefully helps the understanding of where I’m coming from for this review. I wear a size small, though extra small would be better but atlast they only have small and medium at least that I can quickly find on the joann’s website which is kind of disappointing that they don’t have larger sizes. These gloves are initally tight going on and I would make sure any hand/wrist jewelry is taken off prior to putting it on because the fingers cut outs don’t have a seam to keep them from unraveling, though mine as survived one round in the dryer so far. I own two pairs of these, the first part I wore for about 72 hours over a few days and they did stretch out so they weren’t as compressing which was pretty annoying because that compression let me sit for hours without feeling any sort of wrist pain (always make sure to stretch your hands and take breaks) after throwing them in the dryer they did shrink back down a little bit but they still weren’t as compressive as when I originally put them on.
Usefulness ⅘
I have definitely noticed a change in my normal crocheting with these gloves, I can definitely crochet longer and faster (yet to know if this is a good thing or not, need longer time to determine) but they do seem to helpful while I’m wearing them; the spandex/nylon mix does keep my hands warmer and seems to help the blood circulation in my hands and it doesn’t seem over slippery at least with how I hold my hook (violin bow like). While I do complain about the lack of protection seams about the finger holes they have held up in the dryer at least once, I think I might have twice; they don’t have any loose threads or signs of the holes expanding. While I do have smaller hands I can not speak about larger hands stretching them out if it cause the seams to come undone or not. I do wish they came in more colors but I do like that they are bright blue so when I put them down I can easily see them so I will add that as a bonus because I do tend to misplace things.
Price Point ⅗
These gloves retail for $16.99 prior to any discounts, for the first pair to weaken after the first few days was really disappointing, this score may change after I wear the second pair more to see if they hold up better and for longer. Joanns does current offer three gloves, the gloves in this review, then Thergonomic Hand Aids (comes in large and made with the same material and the same price) but also have Dritz Crafters Comfort Gloves - Cloth like and longer finger coverage which are $19.99; I would say that this Lion Brand Stress Relief Glove is a little more expensive than it needs to be because there is no finger coverage, no protect seams in the finger or thumb holes.
These are just my first impressions after having them for about 2-3ish weeks. I do have another pair by Sparthos Wrist Support Compression gloves coming so I will definitely be comparing the two after they arrive. I am a true Sparthos fan with their compression socks. I'm excited to see if their gloves hold up.
Final thoughts; as someone who does have extra small hands fitting into size small I would say you aren’t going to get as much support as if you have the correct size, and if you are prone to edema and swelling I wouldn’t recommend them myself just in case of the lack of protection seams and it would suck if they broke after a few uses. If you have ‘normal’ hands, I would suggest trying them to see if they help, their as comfortable as they can be for light compression

I made this yarn bowl at one of those "paint your own ceramics" places! It was a birthday gift from my older sister ❤️
The loop cutout to hold yarn looked like a fish hook to me, so I made the whole thing a fish bowl! I painted some of my old betta fish on it, as well as one of the snails I had

You know you into yarn when you have headcanons about what spindles characters would particularly like, what they prefer to do with the yarn, what type of wheel spinner they are, and who has 17 projects going on at once (Anakin) vs who’s gonna focus almost entirely on one project as they go through thought spindle spinning a fine yarn, plying and washing enough of it for a blanket, immediately sticking it on the loom, and weaving a particularly intricate pattern (Obi-Wan) vs who’s the ‘I add the knots of silk and locks so that I can live in the moment and let chunks come out when they need to’ (as if I even have to say it, it’s Qui-Gon)-
ANYWAYS. I actually love yarn and think that yarn craft should be more in fics but that’s sorta like how lots of chefs and bakers make a lot of foodie fics like it’s nice but. Everyone eats. Not enough people care about Scottish spindles. Obi-Wan has 7 Scottish spindles and like 8 Turkish ones so he can make a blanket’s worth of yarn in a single go without having to unwind them and ply right away. Qui-Gon likes supported spindles and a traditional wheel. Anakin designs and makes his own electric spinners, electric yarn counters, and electric cone winders. And then he knits Padme shawls. Qui-Gon crochets blankets and keeps leaving them in the creche or outside random apartments in the temple. Obi-Wan weaves. Anakin spent 5 hours learning how to dye fiber in Padme’s favorite colours, made an electric wool carder to make batts of them, spent a solid 15 hours spinning enough for a massive shawl in lace weight yarn for his wife, knit her one, and then went back to his ADHD project hopping.
I have ideas!!!!!!

Edit: the last option should say "I find most or all of them to be similarly easy"
Also, if you're tied between a couple, pick your favorite
Personally spinning is always the easiest to do when my brain isnt working.

Our DnD party hit level 4 yesterday (fuck yeah, Sentinel!) and I love how my fighter kitty seems to be on track of becoming one of my favourite tropes.
I'm just waiting for the in-game moment when we're required to leave our weapons outside when going somewhere and doing the whole routine of:
"Put all your weapons here."
Puro: *puts a hoard of weapons on the table*
"I said all of them."
Puro: *sighs, and unloads even more weapons*
"...Puro. All of them."
Puro: *groans, and somehow produces one more knife from somewhere*
(We had a moment in game where we met a blacksmith who offered to take a look at and fix our gear for free, and my character just piled a whole armoury worth of stuff on his desk.)

If your thinking about learning to crochet, DO ITTTT!!!! It's fun, it's relaxing, it helps you focus bc it's a fidget once you get to the point you don't have to see the stitches to know what your doing. Additionally it's great for neurodivergent people because its a way to make stimming look productive

Sorry to say that I am once again coming to bug you about the Swatchlings specifically jgufhgjgk
The mental image of them parading you around is just sooooo cute to me and I must know more about your dynamic!! Whatever you’ve got on them!!
Also you should share about Watanuki and Doumeki, if that’s not too much!!
NO THANKYOU FOR BUGGING ME ABOUT THE SWATCHLINGS I FINALLY HAVE MORE TO SAY ABOUT THEM THEN JUST "Colors... pretty <3"
Tumblr media
First of all I just found this term yesterday but it's perfect so; All the Swatchlings are Butler Caregivers.
They like to take care of a little like they're nobility. Bring them fancy desserts and finger clean foods and teas on silver platters. Button their shirts and tie their shoes just so. Follow them around exactly two paces behind, hands off unless absolutely necessary or directly asked for.
They like to use names like "Young Master/Mistress" or royal variations if requested, and play up the act of the cool collected butler who diligently watches over the house's perfect little bundle of joy.
They do tend to be. Pretty excitable though.
If their young master is looking particularly cute that day they can't help but squee over them. Cooing the sleepiest babies, or repeatedly pouring compliments over a little's hand chosen outfit that they put on all by themselves.
They're also all big Commit to the Bit types. Give them a role in playing pretend and they will play it as straight as Shakespeare, as serious as the most committed stage hand. This is their life now. Should they be the biggest bad in all the seven kingdoms or just a humble guest to a tea party, they are committed, and they are dramatic.
Their favorite activity is painting with their little, though will have a moment of panic if the baby, or surrounding area, gets too filthy. Their least favorite is Hide-and-Seek, just because they're all very quick to assume they've lost the child forever and will never find them again. Also if one of them looks in a hiding spot and sees a Maus then everything goes to chaos.
Each Swatchling is a little different of course, and I just tend to break them into the 6 colors to talk about so for specifics
Red is overly romantic, they love a story to read bedtime stories about princes who save princesses from dragons, or better to act at the princess being saved by their heroic knight. They're the best cook of the six but get depressed if they're missing baby time because they're in the kitchen making all the tiny food, so they tend to shove their responsibilities off on the other Swatchlings. They get lonely easy and tend to be just a bit clingy compared to the other 6, they need more hugs, kisses, and gifts than the others by quiet a bit.
Orange is a perfectionist who loves to pick out his little's perfect outfit, button their shirt, and tie their shoes just so every morning. He'll also brush and style their hair with little ribbons and bows if he's allowed. They're the first to go hands off when a little gets too messy for them, opting to go find a change of clothes for someone else to put them in to, that they'll then adjust as needed after they're all cleaned up. The most he'll do is gently wipe his little's face with a napkin while they're eating, but even that they may have to change gloves afterwards
Yellow is a lot more about the stuffie parties, especially ones he made. Serving over tea parties with all his little's stuffies, setting up movies and placing every guest so they can see the screen. He enjoys a good pillow fort with soft blankets and hot tea and quiet sleepy nights. What she hates is being the one who has to clean it up because she's the Caretaker so it's up to her to put everything back where it goes when blue eventually comes in and carries the baby back to their big plush bed. He just wants to go to bed but he's gotta take all these pillows back to their original rooms...
Green loves to be outside with a little. She wants to set up an easle and a canvas and watch her young master sit peacefully in the rose garden weaving flowers together to make wreaths and bracelets and crowns. She enjoys the babble of the brook and the rustle of leaves in the wind and the warmth of the sun. All idealized versions of the outside she adores. Heavy forbid though her little prefer to dig in the dirt, or stomp in puddles, or run and be loud and messy. She's more of a nice calm picnic in the sun outside type, not so much tag and red light green light red rover play outside type.
Blue's a music lover, they love to sing to their little or play the piano for them, write them little songs about how great they are or how fun it is to do basic chores like brush your teeth or eat breakfast. They're more of a bedtime caregiver, they love a sleepy little to listen to their lullabies, to rock gently and tuck comfortably into bed. They're the shortest of the six Swatchlings and just a little touchy about it, so little things like not being the first choice for carrying the little or struggling to place dangerous things out of a baby's reach would get to them. They're also the only Swatchling to place and uphold rules like Bedtime, Clean up, and Time Outs (if need be). They're the leader when Swatch isn't around.
Purple is the odd one out of the Swatchlings. She LOVES a chaotic baby, she loves a mess, splatter paint and mud and food fights. She loves bath time with an entire bottle of sudsy soap and lavender lotion. She loves toys all over the floor and snacks on every surface and open but not yet finished juice boxes. She comes across a lot more like an older sibling CG than a butler. She tends to get scolded a lot by Blue and is usually more on clean up than play supervision, however she's the only Swatchling willing to deal with a messy baby meaning she eventually has to be the one to step in and change her little's clothes, help them wipe up a spill, or get them ready for bathtime. She's the oldest of the six and the most mellow (but she still can't handle Maus)
