After a 9 hour surgery with an unexpected problem during a completion Proctectomy and a double parastomal hernia repair. When they opened me up the surgeons found my bowel was twisted directly behind the parastomal hernia and it would have only been a matter of time before major complications would have occurred so I’m extremely thankfully that it was found and was corrected too. I woke up in a HDU or POCU (which I was expecting). Hooked up to 4 machines, a drain in my abdominal/pelvic cavity a catheter and needing O2. I spent 2 weeks in hospital gradually getting better and over the past week I’ve come off one after the other machine each day and finally had the catheter out as I could now get to the loo with the use of my trusty new friend Zoomy the Zimmer frame!! I had a few ups and downs but nothing could have stopped me when I was signed off by my surgical team, stoma nurse and physio team to go home. I’m extremely thankful to all who were involved in my care and recovery during this admission from The surgical team, nurses and nursing assistantship to the auxiliary staff who supplied the teas and food. All were professional and kind throughout. I’m home now and being extremely well looked after by my hubby and youngest daughter. So so glad I’ll be home for Christmas although I’ve been warned already that I’m not to over do it. So for now let me just say a big massive THANK YOU! To all involved at Royal Gwent Hospital and my family for putting up with me. I love you xxx #royalgwenthospital #crohnsdisease #ibd #chronicfatiguesyndrome #cfs #proctectomy #colectomy #stoma #ilestomy #sjrogrens #ankylosingspondylitis #fibromyalgia #wykyk #nocolonstillrollin (at Royal Gwent Hospital) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck38ffqs-tU/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Us chronically ill find comfort in each other. We make video calls from tilted hospital beds and rant about NG tubes pressing themselves against the back of our throats. We begin to love each other different then friendship or family, a confident who knows the depression and loneliness while surrounded by loved ones and kindly written “get well soon” cards
-
We are the ones who trial medications hoping the next person doesn’t experience this same madness. The question marks and falsified bolstering of doctors. We know they’re only human and don’t have all the answers; they prescribe the wrong doses or forget to send our labs we try to understand. But it is us, who stay up wishing things had gone differently, questioning their game plans and cocktails as if we have medical degrees. After all these IV lines and “gets give it another try” we’ve practically done the same education time.
-
Our sickness lives like a dormant kraken living inside us, but a bad meal or stressful day at work wakes it like a hot torch, wrapping it’s tentacles around us and squeezes. It all comes back. The loneliness, isolation, looking out from the deserted island of the bathroom wondering if anyone is out there. Or when you crawl into bed and limbs turn to sand and sadness. So much weight.
-
We are the chronically ill friends you try to comfort with cards and candy but don’t understand why we bail on plans randomly. & honestly, we don’t expect you too. The kind thoughts and sentiments piled on our door step in the form of jarred flowers, boxes of tea, stuffed animals, and love notes. They stack up over the years in floral boxes and envelopes; reminders of those waiting for you to get better. But half the battles are alone at 3am, shaking as fear materializes. Concealed like change hiding in the contour of your pocket. Pains that’s come with no reason, the quiet of your living-room while your stomach groans, so hauntingly alone.
-
So it’s there where your fellow spoonies come in. That “you up?” message, a phrase that holds such a different meaning to the rest of the world. You see the typing dots dancing at the bottom of your screen and suddenly you feel much less alone.

Blurb. Blur. Blank.
I don’t know what’s going on anymore. Spent more than a few days in delirium, and pain, and embarrassment. Shame for scaring my friends. Disgust at this horrible cold sore. Annoyance at my general condition. Part of me is happy for company, part of me wants to be left the hell alone to deteriorate in peace. Sometimes the positivity is genuine. Other times I feel like I’m comforting everyone else. “I’ll be fine! I’m always fine! I always land on my feet.” Sometimes I’m fucking tired of being tired and pretending not to be. I just don’t know. I really just don’t know.
Maybe tomorrow will be clearer. I hope.

Eating well and maintaining good health are key to starting the new year on the right foot.
In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We often prioritize work, family, and social obligations over our own health. However, it's important to remember that our health is our most valuable asset, and we should prioritize it accordingly. One aspect of our health that is often overlooked is our digestive system. Our digestive system plays a crucial role in our overall health, as it is responsible for breaking down food and absorbing nutrients. When our digestive system is not functioning properly, it can lead to a host of health problems, including gastrointestinal disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis.
If you are experiencing digestive issues, it's important to seek help from a qualified gastroenterologist. A gastroenterologist is a medical doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the digestive system. They are trained to perform a variety of diagnostic tests, such as endoscopy and colonoscopy, to help determine the cause of your symptoms. They can also prescribe medication, recommend dietary changes, and provide lifestyle advice to help manage your condition.
