Alfred & the Strange Child

Alfred hadn't intend to ever see the child again. It was meant to be a one and done. He's seen enough runaways in his life time to know they rarely linger in the same place.

Especially the younger they are.

The kid had to be just around ten or twelve. At first glance, many wouldn't think much of him. However, Alfred's had his fair share of encounters with troubled kids.

Especially troubled kids with black hair and blue eyes.

He'd bought him a meal. Something simple. A pre-made salad, a bag of chips, a cookie, and chocolate milk.

Alfred dropped it by the child as he left the grocery store. His own purchases ready for travel. His mind already working through his mental checklist of the day.

He also hadn't intended to stop. A quick hand-off and he should have been on his way.

But the way those wide bright blue eyes stared at him. All the emotions running through him as the child realized what had just transpired.

He couldn't just abandon the child without so much of a smile.

So he didn't. He offered the child his most sincerest smile.

To his surprise, the kid pulled something out the ratty old backbag he had. Held it out for Alfred. Carefully the butler took it, turning it over in his hand.

It was cool to the touch, a soft pastel blue color. Almost transparent if you looked close enough. In the shape of a bat. In the shape of the bat signal.

The kid beamed up at him, seemingly satisified with the trade. Promptly gathered his new things, and left.

Alfred couldn't stop the soft smile from gracing his lips, once he was settled in his car. Eyes trained on the strange, cool, pebble.

He gave it a resting place in his breast pocket, right beside his pocket watch.

A week later, when he went out for a quick errand. He didn't expect to find the same boy sitting on a bench, legs tucked under him.

He especially didn't expect the child to recognize him and grin.

A full, whole-hearted grin.

The way Alfred's heart clenched at the sight, urged him forward. This time, his offering was one of the butter crossiant he had picked up.

In exchange, he recieved a stone in the shape of Nightwing's emblem. The shade of blue just a tad darker than the previous on.

After that, Alfred found himself spotting the little child everywhere he went. A routine was set in place. He'd offer the child a food or beverage, in return he got a new stone to add to his growing collection.

One of these days, he'll remember to exchange names.

Delivery Cookie

Memory: They would come back from every successful delivery and brag to you their efforts on making quick and easy time on each delivery. The time manipulators would make this easy and that meant more words of praise to them, it made them be in good spirits for tue entire day!

Post-Infection: They would try to simulate that by giving random objects they find to other cookies and “telling” Y/N Walker, it’s the only thing they know best to do! A pat on the head is enough to make that smile even wider, almost reaching to the sides of their head!

Mender Cookie

Memory: He remembers working alongside you to repair things in the department, it would start with him teaching you a few things before it became the other way around! He’d always come to you if he needed help, it always worked, and it always irritated the others.

Post-Infection: He continued his role of fixing up things, if bashing his tools against things counts as fixing. It’s always by your word, ask him and he’s destroying that fusebox for the building. Among the infected, he views himself as a genius for this trait, it gives him a sense of importance when you ask him and he would like more of it!

Office Clerk Cookie

Memory: He gave you praising words as he’s made aware of your achievements, part of it is to get in your good graces more then the others. Prefers just you, he does get a bit irritated when Croissant would show up right behind you. She didn’t get the memo? The clerk only wanted to speak to you, not her!

Post-Infection: Holds animosity towards Croissant Walker, where she would be right next to you. Among the others that would make sounds of approval to you when the horde had completed something substantial, believing it to be because you led the horde so well. He seeks your attention even in this infected stage.

Croissant Cookie

Memory: You two were the bestest of friends, so it’d be obvious with Croissant that most if her lingering memories would be with you. For Croissant, it was when you two went out for lunch and pretty much a number of cookies made the misunderstanding you two were dating. Croissant would get flustered each time it happened, but deep down, was happy that cookies thought the two of you made quite the pair. You teased her about it on a few occasions, getting a playful shove in response, it only made her feelings brew even more as a result. Of course there was other cookies that were jealous of Croissant getting to hang out and spend time with you, but it usually took one intense, hateful stare from her to get them back off. You got a problem with Croissant hanging out with her dear lover buddy ol’ pal? Get smacked with a wrench when Y/N isn’t looking.

Post-Infection: She knew what she was getting herself into when she infected, but the thought of having to be apart of you during this whole mess was too much for her to bear, so if it was you who infects her, it was perfectly fine. She’s one of your more devoted walkers alongside the likes of Firewalker, Seawalker, Caramel Walker, etc etc. Of course this does cause a bit of squandering since Firewalker doesn’t take kindly to sharing with the tomboy mechanic for your attention. Crossiant had a bunch of self-doubts, but the one thing she never doubted, even as a walker, was her adoration for you. She IS your best friend! She notices your mood shifts more easily and gets irritated enough to whip out the wrench. If Y/N Cookie doesn’t raise any objections, she’s now obligated to bludgeon someone to death with her wrench.

Timekeeper Cookie

Memory: Being this anomaly meant Timekeeper couldn’t predict what you’d do or even aspects of your past. It would be the first meeting she remembers So despite coming from a different reason, Timekeeper grew to develop sort of an obsession with you similarly to Croissant. She, at first, demanded you tell her what you were that you’re capable of doing this, doing this to her. Perhaps scaring you like that didn’t help her out with you, so she started over with you when you joined the TBD and kept a close eye on you ever since, being the only cookie that didn’t bore her with your unpredictability. She didn’t expect to feel threatened from others getting close to you, she knows she can just throw them into a rift, but would rather get into your good graces. Her greatest rival being Croissant Cookie for obvious reasons.

Post-Infection: Having an insane, time-bending cookies means threats she can handle are just deleted from existence before they have any potential to become threats at all. If she feels pity for the others, she’ll allow them to have a few victories, but she reminds them that the only reason she does so is to not have upset Y/N Cookie with her. Casually ignores the others, she gives a little thought for Hero and Sandwich Walkers, but ultimately just pays attention to you. Give her the command, and this cookie is being sent through a rift, never to be seen again. Any encounter is already foreseen by her, it’s what you decide to do that keeps her interested enough to not just get rid of the offending cookies ahead of time..
