okay, you know what? you know what? everyone shut the fuck up about jack not doing anything while crutchie was being taken away. it only takes one look at him to see how much it hurt jack to watch his best friend be taken like that. “yeah but all he did was watch he didn’t even try blah blah blah” shut! up! jack spent a good amount of time in the refuge. we don’t get too many details about his time there but there is absolutely no question that he wasn’t treated well. the man taking crutchie away was snyder, one of the only people we see jack absolutely terrified of. he talks shit at the delanceys and pulitzer, but snyder scares the shit out of him. and you know why? because he knows what snyder can do to him. is there really a single one of us who doesn’t think that the kids were abused in the refuge? i mean, c’mon. yes, jack only watched, but please keep in mind that he is watching as a man who likely abused him and treated him awfully and kept him locked up physically beats his best friend and literally drags him away. what do you want him to do? jump off the fire escape and start taking swings at the person he is the most terrified of in the entire musical? stop blaming jack for crutchie being taken, and stop talking shit without first considering that jack was likely a victim of abuse who shows visible signs of fear whenever his abuser is present. thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Newsies Sky High AU pt 1
I’m not sure if anyone else has done this, but ya boi is here to do her own pt 2 will be up hopefully very soon
Davey hated this… this division of class on the first day of school. Granted, the whole day was power evaluation, determining whether you’re a super hero or a side kick, so there weren’t any classes, but Davey would rather get homework on the first day than a label he’ll have to stick with his whole life.
The thing is, he knew he’d get sidekick. Sure, telepathy, the reading other’s minds, is cool and a lot of normals wish they had his power, but it wouldn’t do much in battle. He can’t even fly! “Wow!” he’s brought out of his thoughts seeing a girl jump at least 30 feet off the ground while doing what looked like cheer stunts in the air. “Hero!” Coach Boomer bellowed making people sparsely clap.
Davey’s foot tapped against the gymnasium floor, anxiously waiting his turn, but mostly wanting it all to be over. “You,” the coach said pointing to a blonde boy near the edge of the mass of teenagers.
“Crutchie! Go Crutchie!” he heard other guys yelling from the crowd, the loudest being the one he was standing next to. When he looked over, Davey was awestruck by how hot his friend was, and he must’ve been staring because the friend looked at him and smirked, sending a subtle wink his way making Davey blush and look back to the stage.
“Your name is Crutchie?” the coach chuckled, offense clearly intentional, but Crutchie only shrugged.
“No, m'names’s Charlie Morris, sir,” he explained, “my friends call me Crutchie because of this little guy.” Davey didn’t even notice the crutch he was holding or the way his foot was turned in an unnatural position. He flinched feeling sorry for him, but Crutchie didn’t seemed fazed by the injury. How long has he had to live with it? Sure, he could’ve read his mind to see what Crutchie was thinking to try and get his answer, but he didn’t like invading people’s privacy like that.
“Yeah, whatever. What’s your power?”
“I, um, I calm people, sir. I’m not sure the technical wording for it,” he laughed. The coach arched his eyebrow, obviously unimpressed but Davey sure as hell (even though he didn’t believe in hell) was.
“Calm people? Not even heal them?”
“No, just calm, let me show you.” Crutchie touched the coach’s shoulder, the spot under his hand becoming a bright yellow, but the coach’s countenance didn’t change as he stared down the teenager. “Hmm, it usually works,” Crutchie frowned.
“I am calm!” Coach Boomer yelled, everyone becoming confused by the visual oxymoron. “Sidekick!”
“Hey! This is bull shit!” Crutchie’s loud friend protested, walking up to the platform and slamming his fist against it. He was obviously defending his friend, but Cructhie didn’t seem to care about the label that was just stuck on him.
“You better watch your mouth around me, maggot,” the coach spat, “why don’t you come up here and show us what real hero material is, then, hot stuff?” He sure is. David quickly shook his head to dismiss the thoughts.
The teenager went around and stepped onto the raised platform, a confident smirk on his lips. So far, the only things Davey has observed him do is protest and smirk. “What’s your name?” the coach asked.
“Jack Kelly.” Jack Kelly. David kept repeating the two words in his head over and over like a broken record as if afraid he’d forget them.
“Okay Jack,” the coach began, venom in his voice, “what’s your power.”
“My power? Oh, nah, I ain’t no super man.” Some people in his friend group snickered while the rest of the class waited in both anticipation of the protester’s power and confusion.
“I’ll be the judge of that, Mr. Kelly. What. Is. Your. Power?”
“Make me show you, old man,” Jack defied, looking the taller straight in the eye, no fear in his stance while Davey was shaking in his boots. Who in the hell had the guts to stand up against Coach Boomer? Jack Kelly, that’s who. “I dare ya.”
“See me after class, Kelly,” Boomer grumbled knowing he couldn’t do anything to the student even though he obviously very much wanted to. He marked something on his clipboard, probably the sidekick box. “Last one before lunch, you,” he picked, pointing to Davey who’s throats suddenly went dry. His legs seemed to be shaking as he walked up to the platform. He looked over seeing Jack watching him intently making his legs feel more like jelly, if that were possible.
“Power?” the coach asked still obviously irritated after the fiasco with Jack. Davey hated that the backlash would be effecting him too.
“Uh, um, T-telepathy, sir,” Davey responded as politely as he could. He smiled, a sinister smile, before pointing to Jack Kelly.
“Read his mind,” he instructed, probably thinking it’d embarrass him if anything, but what he was thinking made Davey blush more than anything.
Hey, I don’t know ya name, and I ain’t sure what you think of me after that stunt, but I hope it ain’t nothin negative because ya really cute. Tell Coach Boomer I think he looks like an asshshat. He… heard Jack think, making his cheeks a deep red. It felt like everyone could hear what Jack was thinking, like Davey could, but they obviously couldn’t
I’m not telling coach you think he looks like an ass because then he’ll think I think that. Davey responded, quickly realizing his mistake and wanting to take it back immediately. Not many people knew he could also communicate telepathically, and he intended to keep it that way.
Duo-powers were a rare phenomenon, the most famous being Max Stronghold, and most would see it as true blessing, but Davey saw it more as a curse. He didn’t even consider it two powers because the two are so similar.
A duo-power? Jack responded, surprise in his tone, but not evident on his face, which Davey was thankful for. He was about to respond, but the coach’s voice brought him out of his thoughts. “So, what’s he thinking?” Then, his flirtatious words reappeared in his mind making him blush like mad.
“I-I mean they’re private thoughts, right? It’s not in my place to say them in front of the class,” he stumbled out making the class laugh and the coach facepalm.
“Get off my stage, sidekick,” he deadpanned, Davey quickly following his orders, not even caring about his new status.
