GUESS WHAT TIME IT IS??

THATS RIGHT IT'S TIME FOR THE STICKY RICE CAPER!!!

Alright, I'ma be honest here- there are a few episodes in CS which I just NEVER rewatch, and this one is kind of one of them. I don't know why. The start of Season 1 just never really invites me to click on it...BUT I DON'T KNOW WHY!

Every time I DO watch them I really like them!! So weird little mental block. ANYWAYS you know the drill by know let's get crack-a-lacking (or crackle lacking...his memories lmaooo)

WOO HOO our first caper episode!!! I love the caper formats- such a staple of the series (at the same time I wish we'd have gotten some deviation sometimes for...character based episodes or something but oh well).

OKAY HEY HI HAVE I GUSHED ABOUT THE INTRO ENOUGH YET BECAUSE I WILL NEVER EVER SKIP IT. ITS SO GOOD. THE BLACK AND WHITE WITH ONLY THE RED THE COOL BADASS MOMENTS THE AMAZING ANIMATION THE SCENE DESIGN HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

see the intro sets up a sort of mystery and finesse about carmen's character i wish we actually got more!! like she seems so mysterious but they infodump everything about her onto us in the first two episodes immediately. i promise ill stop complaining about the infodumping thing now though

okay also but the moment in the episode when it match cuts to carmen walking from the tower to the crosswalk its sooo fucking gooood

Carmen Sandiego Fun Fact: That guy who's Agent Zari's partner in Season 1 and shows up sometimes is actually not one guy but three identical ones who keep switching out

OH also the shift into color as she looks up godddd its so good i will talk about the intro more than the fucking episode

also the!! she does the thing from s2 e1 in the intro!!! in rio!!

the tone of voice she uses when she says "looky-loos" i didnt know that word could be kind of hot

i like how offended she sounds "I DID" djfdhasfdg shes like player of course i fucking did what do you think i am an amateur

calling vile sleazy is so funny as a kid (13 yo) watching for the first time i thought sleazy was kind of a bad word (its not) and it caught me so off guard

zack's first line....its so zack

ALSO i love the intro cards so much i didnt mention it last week (two weeks ago?) but theyre so fun

carmen: hey we've got a tail

zack: im going to shake my ass all night oh yeah

i love how little carmen is doing about the acme agents shes just like zack can we not :/ we KNOW she can do shit on boats, seeing as she clotheslined devineaux in s3 or whatever she did. threw a tree at him. what the fuck did she do to devineaux i dont remember

zack: HOW TO DRIVE A BOAT SAFELY (continues talking whilst not looking where he's going)

the background couple that gets doused with water twice as the boats go by and then are never acknowledged again are so funny why didnt they have more funny background moments like that jadshfgahdsgah

imagine if acme had actual projectile weapons like idk tranq darts carmen would be so arrested immediately

ivy did it first (talking about the suez canal)

love how ivy didnt need to have that beard on at all. really didnt honestly. she should have dressed in drag more actually i think

can you imagine the thoughts going through zari and jawline's heads when the frenchman turned into a 20 year old bostonian

i like ivy's dumb orange cat energy in jumping 30 feet off of a barge without looking

i do agree with whoever else said they wished she'd gotten a better intro though. i don't think they quite knew what they wanted to do with ivy, and by the time they were like "hey maybe her thing with red drone is because she like builds stuff or whatever" they kind of. only got to relay that by having baby ivy go "hey we should give that lady a gun" in the boston tea party caper

the combination of three languages <3 never change ivy

"while i picked up carmen at the train station" okay so the river they're driving on is the river seine, right? its right by the eiffel tower as we see. fun fact: the nearest train station? 4 minutes away or less! cool detail

ivy definitely had time to get him food just saying . also still confused about why carmen took a train to paris but ive already hounded that detail last week so whatever

carmen completely blank faced saying "yum baguettes" to tease zack is so funny you didnt have to do that

i relish the intrigue and enthusiasm in carmen's voice when she goes "SO off to indonesia" we don't even see her face but she sounds so excited to go there agh

infodumping sections beloved. ive actually learned so much from them. we were talking about coffee and how it can be called java and i was like "OIHOOHOGFOGIHOOGOOGOG JAVA IS AN ISLAND IN INDONESIA HOME TO "THE BIG DURIAN" OR THE CAPITAL WHICH IS JAKARTA"

i like how devineaux thinks carmen would go after the gigantic blue diamond but also steal some more aussie shmuck's wallet AND his train ticket for good measure

the mints were suck a weird little thing to have devineaux have and i love that he had them?? idk if it was for the sole purpose of julia following them to the ACME Closet TM but theyre a cool little character thing that i kinda forgot about (bc the writers did too after the very start of the next season lol)

is crackle implying that he has crawled through sewer tunnels? is he referencing the shawshank redemption? is he referencing black sheep crawling through the drain pipes?

bellum is so funny "I AM LASER FOCUSED" (swimpes through fifteen unrelated tabs that are actively open) adhd icon

hey by the way why did she have missile launch sights and bomb tests and gun blueprints open. because. why didnt that ever go anywhere. i know she's orchestrated some of the most strange but also deadly capers in the show but. i. okay

part of me wonders if shadow-san intentionally breaks up the height slant to make him feel out of place. if they wanted everything to look cohesive he would be sitting...maybe after malestrom. but he isnt, hes on the end and his height, in the lineup, is jarring compared to the slope of everyone else's.

how do you think carmen/gray reunion would go? also if there was a spinoff what would you want it to be about

XD i actually wrote a fic? for rcweek a couple years ago i think? and even tho im not totally satisfied with it basically i am ok with one of the paths being meeting on a train somehow becuase im a sucker for repetition with intention being attention for differences highlighted

but tbh i'm not always so certain... should they be more free to just be sad and happy that HE ISN'T DEAD??

or the slight tension because carmen is grappling with the GOOD and BAD that happened? and thus she needs to let herself crack down to the root of it all? carmen tends to be a little cold and withdrawn until she's sure she can rely on said person even if what she wants is to trust them? does the broken ribs outweigh 6 months in her opinion? it must at least a little, her last words were sorrow for him not anger.

or would carmen just be too sad at what she almost did?

is the blame to be adressed , i think it might have to be since gray does feel shame and carmen feels at fault

would gray? be too apprehensive ?

should they address rn that gray could like be...inlikeLIKE with her now or does that need time?? because at the same time i don't think he should keep that buried , itll make him sick and don't do that to my son

maybe even that small delay because there is aLOT to adress and i'll admit that the little byline is how i HOPE it would go but those 2 are so complex that im always just...gimme popcorn and show me -.-please...one cs writer who cares about they...show me which emotions win out.

Season 2, Episode 4: the fashionista caper

Liveblog for @csweekly

I’d like to start off by saying how blown away I am that the writing team keeps each caper so unique and fresh in a formulaic series. It’s one of my favorite things. I never once find myself truly bored with this show even watching it so many times.

Player….making a My Big Fat Greek Wedding reference? Out of anything they could start the episode with. Not sure what to make of that one besides cultural osmosis. It’s a little before his time.

Love Dash Haber as a villain. Capers not boring and neither are the operatives.

Lol the Cleaners just stop. Don’t react. Move on. Not dramatic enough for their viewing pleasure.

Is this when we get to say “no capes”?

Ever since Paper Star clipped Carmen’s hat once, Carmen is able to save it every time.

Tug of war over the hat is so funny to me.

Carmen doesn’t win all the time. Keeps things interesting.

You know, since it’s coming from Carmen, I legitimately can’t decide if she’s being overtly satirical, or if Coach Brunt actually does knit as a hobby. …no. No way Brunt has the patience. Carmen’s just mad.

APOCALYPSE. One of my favorite Zack moments.

Ahh the home base conversation. Equal parts touching and even mORE guilt wrenching for Shadowsan to hear. “If only I knew more about my past..” If only we could see his face when she says that line.

“The only thread I could pull…” Player making puns literally in his sleep at this point.

Shadowsan filling in Fashion Fest and the team’s REACTION to it. And then just his “Countess Cleo always took an interest.”

Cleo backstory!!! At least a basic one. Just makes me yearn for more. I get the feeling we would have gotten a lot of criminal backstories if we’d had more seasons.

Cookie! I’m glad they had her back for a full caper. Really tho, Carmen totally got her entire look from her LOL. There’s not as much ode to 90s Carmen in this episode through her than the laying it on thick they did in the first. I can’t decide if I like that or I’m disappointed there’s not more. Because in this caper she’s her own thing.

Zack is ALREADY including Shadowsan as dad please I’m so emotional about those two and what it says between the lines of Zack and Ivy’s past. This boy LATCHED onto the first male adult he was allowed to and said “we are going to bond”.

Julia it should be illegal to be this adorable.

Yeah. Different capers like I talked about in the opening paragraph. Going after 16th century gowns. This is a homage to older CS. Always the caper is something historical and unique rather than simply money or jewelry. Keeps the vibe from older iterations.

Also. Again. This entire episode foreshadows the dark red arc, everything leads to it. Brainwashing Carmen was ALWAYS on the table.

Oops. Sorry Zari (Stockholm is totally revenge for this moment)

Ahh and the beginnings of trusting Julia. Carmen’s got her pegged completely. Knows her heart is in it for history, and that whatever act she’s putting on isn’t really her. All that she could glean from their first and only interaction in India. Carmen almost ALMOST knocks her out like Zari, but ever the quick thinker, Carmen takes a chance with the knowledge she’s been given. She’s done the math and needs one more person.

Although I absolutely would have roared if Shadowsan got up on that stage.

The runway scene. Fantastic. And really you get a feel that this is actually the beginning of Julia’s arc in gaining confidence in herself. She already sticks up for herself, but this scene is what cements that 1. Carmen is not the bad guy 2 if she can get on that runway, she can stick her neck out with confidence for what she believes in. She doesn’t waver after this.

Also color theory. Carmen gives her her hat. Julia’s red shirt is gone but Carmen gives her this lifeline of friendship. Literally by verbally putting her in charge she’s telling Julia that she trusts her and wants to let her in on what the team is doing.

Ivy and Zack PLEASE. I love you enough already. You don’t have to go so hard on the runway.

It’s kinda cool how the models still walk like models in between the fighting.

Shadowsan’s strength is literally terrifying

LOL her eyebrow of incredulity to “which modeling agency are you with”

“Hackers can wear white hats after Labor Day” my gosh I love their banter. Everything is building up to Player’s s4 zinger of all time.

This hq idea is SO clever. Literally hiding in plain sight. The most home that Carmen can get right now. It’s my favorite thing.

“Zack got to have gelato and pizza” I love this family.

Huh I wonder if some or most of those silhouettes are based off of older iterations of ViLE operatives.

Such a solid and fun episode.

What way I personally think certain Carmen Sandiego characters ‘’sway’’ and occasionally ill explain myself as to why:

Coach Brunt: She’s a, Raging, Cajun, Queer woman. You know, like that country song, yee yee. She can definitely operate heavy-duty farm equipment and works out in strictly matching sweatsuits, no straight explanation for that sorry. But I can’t nail anything down specifically, but she is fruity.

Shadowsan: Okay so I’m saying straight under the guide that he physically doesn't have TIME FOR IT. He FINALLY got some time off after 60+ years?

Chief: exists somewhere out there. And has a cat. *raises brows with suspicion*

Julia: Pansexual because she's naturally a very analytical and sensing person who likes to find out every piece of information she can before making a properly informed decision and I just feel like she’d need to see the person for who they are, completely, warts and all before she can or wants to FULLY go for it. Such being not a long process because she's so observant. Also, she can get flustered easily by ANYONE with an ounce of charm. Bless xx.

Paper Star: Jennifer's Body. And no, I WONT explain.

Chase: Messy Bisexual or at the very least, 10000% queer in some way. If anyone came up to him, no matter their orientation/presenting and said ‘I think you’re handsome’ or even, ‘Hey, you did a really good job today, I’m proud.’ He’d bat his eyes, press his pointer fingers together while twisting his foot with blushed cheeks going: ‘hehe, reallyyyy???!!! ☞ ☜(◕‿◕✿)’ and you can't say I'm wrong.

Neal: Has a New Zealander accent and that's all that matters.

Gray: He an Australian tradie and therefore, by law, he is contractually obligated to be straight. And I know this because I'm Australian.

Mimebomb: Hasn’t told me anything because he doesn't speak so I don’t know, sorry.

Carmen: Aro/Ace/Bixesual: Either or all. No matter what, she’s miles behind on all that considering her upbringing and her entire focus is really all about self-discovery and assurance, which is what I think is most important to her and would be a long while before she delves into that sort of thing. But she's also a massive flirt so ;) who did she learn that from, I need answers.

Dash: Gay, but wants to be and be with Cleo simultaneously.

Sheena: An Aggressive Lesbian, as in, she’d throw you against a wall then bite her lip saying: ‘DAM baby that was kinda of hot how you nearly died by my hand and all’. And she uses a lot of puns and word play which is kinda…. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm ….. If you get me.

Player: A child. I'll let him figure all that stuff out for himself.

Zack: Too busy filling water balloons and playing real-life hot wheels. I’m kidding, but seriously. He is 100% a party animal with all that new ACME money so who knows tbh. I sure as hell don't. Tony Stark without the crippling ego

Ivy: Lesbian.

Zari: Lesbian.

Bellum: They/Them Aro/Ace and is an Ipad kid. At the very least would worship someone like Cleo because they fascinate them completely.

Cleo: Demands subservience.
