Watching Sleeping With Sirens music videos and saw this comment. It is so relatable on so many levels for me. Hopefully they will play it when I see them on August 4th.

3. Biggest self-insert OC?
4. What kind of music do your OCs listen to?
5. What are some of your OCs biggest fears?
6. Do you have any OCs without stories? Will you ever create one for them?
7. What are your favourite relationships between your OCs? (romantic or platonic!)
8. Do you have any OC family trees?
9. Favourite OC?
Please and thank you!
3. Biggest self-insert OC?
Sarah started out as a self-insert OC in a Xavier's School RP on the Ctrl+Alt+Del forums, in the eaaaarly 2010s. Since then, she's absolutely developed to be her own character, but she's sort of the person I would like to be now, regarding her chosen family, love of cooking/baking, and being creative. Meanwhile Oz has all of the money I wish I had and more, and Angie is as confident and cool as I want to be.
4. What kind of music do your OCs listen to?
I definitely can't list them all, just because I have so many OCs, so I will focus on my favorites for the rest of the questions, haha. Sarah loves artists like BABYMETAL and Paramore, her older sister Angie has a giant range of likes from Halestorm to Gary Allan, Oz is a big Britney Spears and general pop music/Top 40 fan.
5. What are some of your OCs biggest fears?
Oz hates all bugs, snakes, and lizards - it gets a tiny bit better when Doyle starts showing an interest in herpetology, but not much. Sarah has had to go to therapy to stop being anxious anytime she starts to get hungry, but she still carries snacks with her everywhere. Neither of them are a fan of men being loud and aggressive. Most of Angie's fears involve Sarah getting hurt in any way, shape, or form. (He is not okay when she goes through her one pregnancy - especially when he finds out about pregnancy psychosis.)
6. Do you have any OCs without stories? Will you ever create one for them?
Angie's wife, Rayne, and one of Oz's relationships, Andy, don't get written about enough. I really hope to change it someday.
7. What are your favorite relationships between your OCs? (Romantic or platonic!)
I love Oz and Calum's relationship, and how they are basically childhood sweethearts. They also have a third partner later in their life--a sweet, scholarly astrology nerd named Jakob that I haven't posted anything about on AO3, but have plenty of old WIPs with him. I also love that Oz has so much love in his life - not just from his family and partners, but he has so many friends. He considers Nic, Andy's wife, to be his platonic partner as well as best friend - they are married in a Bridgerton AU to save both of them from a life of misery.
8. Do you have any OC family trees?
Most of my OCs have fleshed out parents and siblings, though there are a few only children. Sarah and Angie are siblings, with Sarah four years younger. Oz has a sister that is two years younger than he is. There is a Gravity Falls AU that I like to think about, but idk if I will ever write, where Angie and Jakob are twins/stand-ins for Stan and Ford, and Sarah's grandkids are stand-ins for Dipper and Mabel.
9. Favorite OC?
Angie. He's such an asshole and has done and gone through so much, but he also made the decision to be better, and worked so hard to do it. He earned the relationships he has with his wife and Sarah, (they lost touch for a few years, Angie was in a bad place and acted like a dick to drive Sarah away 'for her own good') and beat his own mental health and cancer, and has a life he never thought he would have. (He always thought he would be a Very Unimportant Member of the 27 Club.)

Hey, I really liked your article on what the Internet is like in 2024. For many of us the way it is now is all we have ever really known. How did people navigate an internet before Google owned search bars and the same 10 or so sites ran public opinion?
Thanks for the ask, anon! I got into that a little in the beginning of the article that excerpt was from. Repasting here, and I'll elaborate further down:
There was a solid three years in college—maybe even longer—when I literally read every single article on CollegeHumor.com and Cracked.com. Whenever I had some free time (an abundance I was tragically unaware of at the time), I’d type their URLs into my browser bar, scroll down to the last article I read, and start reading. Once I was caught up, I’d check in on a handful of other sites the same way (mostly webcomics, and a few blogs). Questionable Content, Penny Arcade, XKCD, Ctrl-Alt-Del, and, yes, even some more embarrassing to admit than CAD that I’m not going to mention here were all readily-available in my browser bar’s autocomplete. When I ran out of new stuff to read, I’d hit StumbleUpon, or Reddit, or Digg. There were always some new URLs out there for me to uncover, good or bad (and there were a lot of bad ones), and I loved finding them. Please don’t take this as me flexing my OG internet cred; nothing I’ve said here is all that different from the mid-00s experience of any online American goober. I say all this to point out a fundamental shift in how the internet (at least the internet that I’ve experienced, within my social and geographical bubble) has worked over the last ~10 years. Those early days were defined by websites, not social feeds. When I “went online,” I went to specific URLs to see what the people behind them were up to. Sure, there was Twitter and Facebook, and Myspace before that, but those were still avenues to direct traffic to websites, more or less. People went on those platforms (and later, those apps) to be social, not make content. The most “content creation” you’d do on Facebook in those days was upload a selfie or tag all your friends in a party photo from the night before.
Before the feeds, everyone had a website, and you'd spend your online time going from URL to URL to check in on them. If you've ever heard the term "blogroll," this is the time that was from.
Let's say it's 2006 and I have a blog with a bunch of dedicated readers. Somewhere on my blog's page, I would have section dedicated to linking out to other blogs I liked. That was the "blogroll", and before that there were "webrings" which accomplished a similar thing in a slightly different way.
Webcomics were really, really good at this. They organically created a lot of the social infrastructure that earlier internet ran on, and that the later web 2.0 stuff was built on.
After a while, RSS readers became much more user-friendly, and blog owners made their blog's RSS feed as accessible as possible. If you input a website's RSS feed into your RSS reader (RIP Google Reader, we didn't deserve you), then your RSS reader would update.
Tumblr media
[Random screenshot of Google Reader I found online. This was Google's take, but all the other ones more or less worked the same way.]
It looked a lot like email, to be honest. And on that note, I think the recent surge in newsletters is recreating that experience, to a degree. I subscribe to over a dozen newsletters, from Substack and other platforms/outlets, and I filter them all out of my inbox and into a separate label. This is a screenshot of my newsletter inbox:
Tumblr media
I don't have to log into Twitter, or Threads, or Bluesky, or whatever to get the content I want from the people I want to get content from. I don't have to worry about how the algorithm is sorting it; this feed is always chronological. There's nothing between me and the writers, artists, and other creators I want to keep up with.
With the collapse of the algorithm-driven era*, I think we're heading back to this (or at least, I think we should be). What's great about this is: we don't have to be beholden to the whims of platforms anymore. We can just get the stuff we want from the people we want.
*The algorithms are still very much alive and still very much want you to keep yourself hooked up to their slurry, but they've dropped their end of the bargain. The spell is broken, there's no longer one place that feels like everyone is logging into to talk about whatever's happening on the internet in any given moment. Elon Musk ruining Twitter was the final thing that broke the spell, but it started happening after everyone got mad at Facebook for helping get Trump elected in 2016. Now that everyone's looking for something else to replace what they used to get from algo feeds but failing to coalesce in one place again, that's never going to come back.
So that all answers your question: "For many of us the way it is now is all we have ever really known. How did people navigate an internet before Google owned search bars and the same 10 or so sites ran public opinion?"
But I'd like to focus on the second sentence there for a second. You're right, right now it feels like Google owns search bars and the same 10 or so sites run public opinion. However, that's only because we've all given that power to them. I understand it, and sympathize with it. Creating an intentional presence on the internet is a lot of work, and it's hard to keep up with it as all the services we use to do it change their policies and settings.
I think this straight-to-the-source model would be better for all of us in general, and the best part about it is you can just start doing it for yourself whenever you want. You don't have to wait for a platform to start offering it, just find the writers and creators you want and subscribe to their newsletters. If a platform changes something that puts a wall up between you and the people you like there, doesn't matter. You're following their email newsletter and will still get those emails as long as they keep sending them.
That early internet I described was full of people still figuring out how it all worked, so the gears and inner workings were a lot more apparent and easier to play with. As the internet has gotten more polished, those gears have been covered up and less visible, but they're still there.
In fact, every Tumblr page has an rss feed, just add "/rss" to the end of its URL like this: https://seancurry1.tumblr.com/rss. You could set up an RSS feed yourself, or figure out a way to convert RSS updates to emails. Here's an IFTTT recipe to do it, but I'm sure there are other ways.
The platforms all want you to think the way the internet currently exists is the way it's always been and the only way it ever can be, but all the gears are there if you look for them. You can start ripping the guts out and seeing how it works for yourself, and even make it better.
Anyway, happy to pass on my Elder Internetter knowledge if you have more questions! I think we're at an exciting turning point in the internet where the power to shape our experiences is up for grabs, but it's up to us to grab it.

I appreciate the continuity of meme culture in the Fate Fandom. For a lot of other things from the early-mid 2000s, there are definitely periods where people just stop using a bit and then pick it back up later on. Like, "oh, we all like making fun of Ctrl Alt Del by blacking out the overlong prose and remixing the miscarriage strip" is something that people have started and stopped doing in waves on the internet. On the other hand, "Toshaka Rin pleases old men for money" and "Mou Ikkai" gags have been at a steady clip since inception. Never wavering, never hitting peaks or valleys. In the year 2032, our great great grandchildren will be saying "J...jam it in!" With the same cultural context and at roughly the same rate as we say it now, just as we said it a decade ago.
my personal favorite is how people still call Hisui the "brainwashing detective" over 20 years later, consistently, with multiple (equally consistent) acknowledgements from TYPE-MOON, because of typos in the Tsukihime demo that made it seem like she was either privy to Shiki murdering someone or pressuring him into doing it

Material Girl 🧿
Wala lang, haha, this post might make me look like I am a material girl but some things really just make you happy, you know.
Tumblr media
At work, there's this cabinet called "Tech Cabinet". Andon lahat ng peripherals and other tech items, so from magic keyboard, magic mouse, extension, converter, etc. You just need to grab what you need, walang lista lista. Tagal ko pinag-isipan if I'll get the magic keyboard kasi sanay talaga ako sa light touch keyboards. But, when I was asked what laptop I wanted (Windows vs Mac), I initially chose the latter tapos nagpalit ako to Windows kasi akala ko Outlook ang gamit. Later on I found out na Gsuite pala so Mac would have all the features, unlike sa Outlook na walang vote buttons, folder grouping kapag Mac.
Anways, na-realize ko na okay din naman na Windows ang gamit ko kasi para ma-compartmentalize pa din sa utak ko na kapag Windows OS, work yun. Kapag Mac OS, personal. Important siya lately lalo at ilang beses na din akong kinukuha ng UP sa engagements as preceptor or resource speaker.
So, ayun na nga. Kinuha ko yun Magic Keyboard ang saya. Tapos anak ng tokwa, mga 1-2 hours akong nastress kasi walang Ctrl + Alt + Del function na naganaaaaaa! Even N-Tech wasn't able to help me, umabot na sa try ko daw set up yun on-screen keyboard. Luckily, I found through some Apple forums na Cmd + L daw. Tangina, ang saya ko after! Hahahaha! With that, I can type with the sleek and light touch, and still maximize the Windows view I am familiar with naman.
Lesson of the story: You can lock your Windows laptop using a magic keyboard using the Cmd + L keys. LOL.
Nakakatuwa din kasi I was supposed to save up to buy Logitech MX pero, since may magic keyboard na, oks na oks na ako. May Logi M65 mouse din na binigay sa work na fit na fit for small hands like mine.
Tumblr media
Dumating na din kahapon yun treadmill ko. It's under 10K so I don't expect it to be as heavy duty as the ones at the gym but it'll help me (1) do quick 1-3K runs and (2) complete 8K-10K steps even when it's raining outside.
So far, my current set-up works. I do hope to get some weights pa din, pero di talaga ubra yun cake. Maybe a rack? But, nakita ko kasi yun sa Wundergym na colorful plates and DBs and KBs, kaso max of 25.5KG lang sya... saka 30K sya haha! So, I'll just work with what I have. Ayoko na din i-pressure sarili ko lalo I now have 1hour maximum nalang talaga to work out in the morning. So, most of the time, 1min nalang talaga rest periods or I incorporate yoga or videos from Johana Soh. Yun program ni Faye, madalas nagagawa ko nalang once or twice a week.
Ang big purchases ko nalang na kailangan pagtrabahuhan (often sa side raket ko kinukuha) ay:
2 yoga mats (kasi slippery na and 3+ years na itong current lol)
Standing desk (pero naghahanap ako na under 15K lang sana)
Split type aircon (para di na kami pawis pawis sa master bedroom)
Automatic feeder and litter for the furkids (para din kahit umalis kami, wala na akong aalalahanin)
Minsan, naiisip ko bumili ng bagong Apple Watch (2 years old na itong sakin) or iPhone (1+ year old iPhone 11 itong sakin na from previous work pa)... but naisip ko, what I have still works. May added experience siguro yun new cameras and features, but I don't think it would significantly improve my life. LOL.
Madalas ganon na naiisip ko eh, lalo pag big purchases. Things make me happy, I accepted that at hindi na ako magpapaka-ipokrita about it. But, I want to start being mindful again of things I add into my life. It should enrich me, not take time away from me.
Ayun lang, happy Friday! 🧿

At the risk of sounding terribly conceited, some thoughts inspired by my friends talking about how much of what is good advice can sound so trite when received from an external source, but can eventually click and become so, so important once you've come to the same conclusion yourself.
So, with few exceptions, mostly having to do with a genuine failure to understand the advice, I have historically responded well to good-but-trite advice, especially when presented in a written form. See, for instance,
Live Laugh Love
which immediately, for me, became a "Yeah, no, that's just great advice, live this life fully as you can, it's the only one you have. Laugh when you feel like it, and sometimes when you don't, because laughter is a great expression of human emotion and a good release valve. Love with your whole heart because the alternative is to live in the shadow of joy."
Only later, as the phrase ubiquitized, and the mass produced "art"ifacts destroyed any sincerity the phrase ever could have had, (and the toxic positivity way too many people baked into it took over as the culural meaning of the phrase) did it ever start to bother me.
I'm not trying to say I'm a perfect flawless being here, but it can be quite confusing, in a funny but also alienating way, to see how broadly the sentiments below
Tumblr media
resonate with people. Especially among my friends I chat with most regularly.
The biggest problem I have with a lot of advice, really, is seeing people's negative takes and internalizing that I, gets-it-on-the-first-read-Georg, have obviously misread or otherwise been mistaken.
Hate to have to say it, but I'm pretty sure the only thing standing between me and enlightenment is attachment to the feeling of connection with my peers

Does it keep popping up with error messages all within the place? If it is doing you can speed it up by simply following some simple decisions. No Matter what version of windows an individual using. The easiest thing total is get a free registry scanner and find out if it updates itself at all while may scanning your pc. If it'll then impact . it will protect pc.
