Lawrence’s place by images@twiston Elgol - Lawrence Cornell’s spiritual home. I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear that Lawrence passed away, suddenly and unexpectedly, just a few days ago. Lawrence was a well respected, engaging and inspirational member of our Flickr community and will be dearly missed by many. Although I never actually met Lawrence in person, I didn’t need to; his charismatic images spoke so well of his narrative, his love of photography and the locations he frequently visited. The banter we had between us, him frequently encouraging me to take ‘proper’ moody landscape images and me encouraging him to look to his more ‘reflective’ side, I valued immensely. His passion for landscape photography was so evident in his images of Elgol, a location that was so dear to his heart and where his emotions spoke loudest. I can’t think of a better tribute than an image of his beloved Elgol, with the iconic view looking towards the Cuillin across Loch Scavaig. An image that I took on my last visit to Skye, a location I persevered with having seen Lawrence’s emotive images over so many years. Lawrence\'s photostream can be found here: lawrencecornellphotography So long Lawrence, you will be missed. Thoughts and prayers with your family and close friends at this terribly sad time. Sligachan bridge and the Cuillin in winter
This classic angle of the Black Cuillin over the old bridge at Sligachan appears in many guide books and calendars. The shot is taken from the modern A87 road bridge over the River Sligachan.

The redcoats
Thistles scratched his legs underneath his kilt, drawing small streaks of blood.
But he didn't seem to care about that. Right now his only priority was to get Aoife safe through the glen without the redcoats catching up on them.
"Come on lass, try and keep up, I know it's hard, but we must keep pushing on"
"I'm giving all I've got, I know." she replied, under heavy breathing while firmly holding on to his hand and trying to keep up with his pace.
Keeping up with his long strides is one thing, but doing so on the soggy soil of the Scottish Highlands is another.
"Once we're over this ridge we'll be in the clear. They won't bring their horses up this high. They'll break their legs."
Squinting her eyes against the bright sky, Aoife looked up to the the mountains before them. He saw the look on her face as she calculated the effort it would take her to climb all the way up there.
"Dinnae worry" he said in a comforting voice. "If you cannae go nae further, I will carry you on me back"
She smiled briefly as to acknowledge his kindness. This man will keep her safe. Looking over her shoulder there still was no sign of the British soldiers who were sure to be on their tail.
But that could change very quickly..
