Remember, the names of the great old ones are just human approximations.
While "Kuh-thoo-lu" is the accepted pronunciation, there's nothing stopping you from having cultists who use "Ku-lu-ho", "Kat-hu-lu" or the entirety of Flo Rider's 2008 hit song (Shawty Got) Low as the god's name.

“Four disappearances, all students from the same college... and the police found nothing. Perhaps we should go undercover...”
@onabikaa sent me a message asking for more stuff on my “cult in a boarding school” idea! I was considering making a full post for it and your ask finally pushed me over to do it.
Story details under the Read More! This is already a long post. There’s some pretty dark themes so please let me know if you wish me to tag anything, cw for mentions of death, religion and cults:
This is one of the first cases Chang helps out with since coming over to Belgium. Four students from the same Catholic boy’s college go missing and the police are seemingly reluctant to investigate. They enrol into the school under false names to go undercover. Haddock has a lot of fun mocking the weird upper class culture that looked down upon him before he became wealthy, posing as their aristocratic father.
Tintin initially finds it easy to blend in, as this school is very similar to the one he attended as a child. However, these similarities start bringing back some deep childhood and religious traumas, which he first tries to push aside to focus on the case.
Chang immediately stands out, being one of the only non white students. He is quickly targeted. Tintin stands up for him, quickly leading to the school separating them.
The school tries to drive a wedge between them. Despite the school’s efforts they manage to meet at night, exchanging new information and making plans. With Chang’s encouragement, Tintin starts to open up about his own school trauma and touches on his past.
Chang later discovers documents detailing sales of precious metals - he is caught and captured by some students, who are all secretly a part of a cult. The cult is headed by the school administration who are exploiting their labour to mine metals in the deposits that were discovered around the school grounds.
I had the idea that the cult is broken up through empathy and compassion, leading to the surviving boys working together to escape the underground mine and reporting the school administration. I wanted to explore stuff like power structures and how they are maintained - basically I was thinking this would be a situation Tintin can’t punch his way out of, and a way to showcase Chang’s strengths as a character.

When am I going to get a cult movie in which the spooky cult isnt pagan or satanic but a christian evangelical-adjacent super powerful megachurch style type of cult. mormons with a new coat of paint. the horror comes in slowly realizing not only that they're really messed up despite their "nice" appearance and kind behavior, but that THESE bastards are the guys behind the local politics of bumfuckville, Missouri, and now that there's a chapter in YOUR town, your neighborhood is going next! DUN DUN DUNNNN
oh and also they're breeding angel-human angels in the basement of their church and that's why they have so many child brides. to get them pregnant with the inbred pug equivalent of angel-human things and finally hone down the perfect angel-to-human ratio that will become their soldiers and use them to massacre non-believers. don't worry about it.

my head is exploding over today's qna....
amane loved her victim. despite the pain, the punishment, it was all love to her. she loved her parent because they told her they were doing these things for her. she's a child, she's never known anything else - to her, punishing her abuser back is the ultimate form of serving the god they originally introduced to her, a form of love. because good children love their parents like theyre supposed to. and she believed them.
kazui didn't love his victim, not in the way he was supposed to. no matter how much people insisted this was how he should be, he could never kill the person he secretly was. he just can't do it, no matter what.
i think this is why they're paired up: amane, just as much as kazui, is a victim of societal pressure. but instead of kazui, who told the truth and broke the rules, amane embodies the rules, she becomes the new enforcer of her rules. amane succeeds, in her own, messed-up way, where kazui fails.

okay. i'm the anon with the normal story that ended up getting to an "i don't care i'm not the asshole" because of the other person turning out to be part of an odd otherkin cult but it genuinely doesn't matter. am i the asshole for killing off a player's character after they said they would leave the game if their character died? this happened a few years ago (2019-2020).
i (19NB) was the DM for a d&d game. i had made a friend who we'll call Max (20F) at college who liked d&d, and i had wanted to run a game for my friends of several years, so i wanted to invite her. Max got along pretty well with my friends during D&D for the most part, but there were some slight disagreements, but regardless, Max and my friends of several years did not talk much outside of D&D and scheduling D&D, and I wasn't going to force them to.
Covid starts, so we all sort of switch to discord and continue playing because the easiest place for us to play at (local library) is closed. One session, we have to end early because Max and another player started fighting about a rule, and wouldn't give me (as the DM) the space to come up with a compromise. Another session, we had an issue where she (after being given the floor to describe a kill she made) got way more graphic than any of us were expecting. I quickly wrapped up the session after and had to let Max know that she had went too far in her description. I spoke to everyone outside of Max after these occasions, and they had all admitted they were very uncomfortable with her behavior, but were willing to keep playing with her if she stopped. So, we play a few more sessions. After we started a boss fight and her character had taken a good bit of damage due to some unlucky rolls, she made a comment to me that was along the lines of "if [x] dies i think i'm just gonna step out of the game"
I had my out, and by the end of the boss fight (about 2 sessions[they were short]), I killed her character. Obviously, I made it seem like it was just a really unlucky day by fudging some rolls, but whatever.
But she changes her mind and doesn't leave the game, and rolls up a new character. She had no further major issues with anyone after her first character died.
The game finishes mid 2020, and before it ended, Max revealed she'd be moving by fall, so I would also never have to see her again in real life if I cut her off right as the game ended. Once it did, I acted as if my friends had just come clean to me about being uncomfortable with her behavior and I no longer wanted to speak to her because of it.
That's the AITA of it.
Anyway, early this year, after all of us have basically forgotten about this, I get an anonymous DM on twitter. It's a page run by Max actively detailing a spiritual cult that her and one of her friends and their boyfriend ran. They detailed several gods they worshiped, some of which were just characters I knew she or her friends liked, some were the more traditional witch gods and they spoke of a spiritual prison or something where her D&D character was now trapped in after I had cut her off. I look into it further. I found a tumblr blog of people claiming (with screenshots, photos, and videos) that Max financially, emotionally, and psychologically abused them. Anyway, does this addition change anything?
What are these acronyms?

Theater of the Mind implies Theater of the Body and Theater of the Soul. It's this anything?
Theater of the Mind - Tabletop Gaming
Theater of the Body - Larping
Theater of the Soul - Starting a cult and sacrificing people to your GM in exchange for bonuses on your rolls.

I kind of hate how some ppl in the milgram fandom treat Amane ngl.
Yes, she's still a child and clearly went through a LOT of trauma being the poster child of her cult (which is a typical small eastern cult as we could see, not a big one like so many people made it to look like which is a whole other topic I want to discuss another time), but at the same time she asks us to not treat her like a child. Amane's situation in there makes me ill sometimes just when I think about how, because of the cult on itself, she was made to believe she's not really a child in the most stereotypical sense of the word due to all the learnings and torture/punishments she went through and shouldn't be judged as such.
However, at the same time Amane really isn't just a child. She has made it very clear Amane (not the prisoner but the spokesperson of the cult) would attack the ones who went against the cult's teachings (medicine, aka Shidou, Mahiru and Fuuta) and while yes she possibly couldn't heavily affect and hurt Shidou, especially now that Kazui is back on the innocent leaning votes and could protect the prisoners again, Mahiru and Fuuta are still hurt and could easily have their conditions worsened.
Not only that! The fact that Haruka and Muu both got guilty verdicts also heavily means Haruka will try and do something to hurt himself. While we still don't know all the teachings of the cult, the easy conclusion is that this also goes against Amane's cult.
The fact it's also already shown that Amane is trying to convert Fuuta, who again is mentally fragile, and Fuuta got a forgiven verdict will possibly enforce that belief on Fuuta himself if she, too, gets an innocent verdict.
While yes, I *do* think Amane is not guilty at all and should have been forgiven, the situation at hand really is bad and would possibly worsen with Amane being voted innocent. The Fuuta thing alone scares me from the results and everything else just worsens it. Amane is not guilty at all about the things she had to go through and honestly if she did kill the guy who murdered the cat as a divine punishment since hurting animals is also seen as blasphemy i do get where she's coming from, but at this point if we get a forgiven Amane verdict I'm scared on what will happen in the middle of trial 2 and 3

I shouldn't be surprised that Amane's "caretakers" are also putting her into a situation where she has to love someone predestined for her. It's so, so cruel how they're treating this little girl. She can't play, she can't do anything fun for herself, she doesn't even get the freedom to love. She wouldn't be allowed to find her partner later in life and learn about romantic love herself.
It contrasts beautifully with Kazui's answer. He could love freely, but realistically? The world around him suffocates that love. Because it's abnormal, it's not right.
Why can't they just play the roles they should?

Night Terrors
Lamb drabble! A good nights rest is hard to come by nowadays
Content warning for some minor cult stuff and uh burning alive stuff? LMK If I need to tag anything
"Go on then. Bring our little lamb to the altar. It's almost time." Those words, haunt you in your waking moments and even- especially now. When your eyes are shut and you've drifted off in hopes of getting any kind of rest.
You're being escorted and what you see around you is the two blurred faces of the trolls who fed and cared for you, distant memories those lusus substitutes, each grabbing your arm and forcing you toward the pyre. Words and symbols carved into the wooden pole as they try to tie you to it.
Your heart races, you never chose this but then again the moment you first opened your eyes you didn't get much choice in anything. You struggle and try to flail in an attempt to make it harder for them to tie your hands together but in end its not much use. You spot an opening and use your head, or your horns I should say, to ram into at least one of them. You land a hit on the side of their jaw that causes the one you hit to fall over the other rushes to them in aid and there you stand. Why are you still standing. Your feet and legs are free, you run past them but before you can get far you feel yourself get tackled by others.
The leader tells them to be careful with you, you're their prize sacrifice after all. One of many but the very last one they need to finally summon the deity he's allegedly been in contact with. Flashes of an old rusty bone saw appear in your peripheral the horrible sound of horns being sawed off flooding your skull, you try to fight back but they easily overpower you. Defeated you are dragged back to the 'altar'. Your stare cold and empty as He recites some prayer and the flock does the same, chanting with him as they light the match.
As you watch it fall indescribable pain surrounds you, starting at the soles of your feet then slowly rising, you want to scream in pain but you know its useless. You close your eyes and wish it'd all just go away meanwhile your body screams at you to get away. It feels like an eternity before you finally pass out from the pain. Your world is dark but not for long… You see in the distance a light growing closer then suddenly multiple appear that's when you realize what they truly are. Eyes.
You open your eyes and for a moment, the shadows form the vaguest silhouette of-- Eyes. Shut. No. It's not him, this isn't the first time you've woken up like this, by now you know its just those shadows following you around pestering you to keep moving forward but that would mean leaving; Your new hive, Your friends, Vemili, Everything. You can't be alone not again. You hate being alone. You were alone for so long the thought of not being around them it hurts almost as much as-- That's enough reminiscing. It's late but the sun wont rise for a few more hours, maybe a walk will help clear your head, it hardly ever does but perhaps this time…
You give your matesprit a kiss on the cheek and tell him you'll be back and all he can respond with is a mumble in return, you smile and get ready to venture out.

it’s time to have polite and nuanced conversations about your favorite driver but when lewis says something we all have to publicly condemn him lest we get referred to as a cult alright
