Let me give you a 3rd reason against doubting GOD
you might say doubt number three is really a kind
of cumulative doubt.
There's actually about 3K doubts in this one doubt.
So it's very efficient a use of our time & it goes like
this, “I cannot believe Christianity, or in the Bible
because in the Bible:
• There's this statement or this teaching.
• There's this incident
• There's this passage
…………………………………………………………………
Now the reason I said there's 3K doubts in this doubt
is because everybody's got problems with different
parts of the Bible.
…………………………………………………………………
You know just fill in the blank:
I cannot believe in a Bible or you know a
certain passage in Scripture that teaches
blank or X or Y or Z—it's regressive, or it's
offensive! It's terrible!
I just can't believe it, but let's talk about that
for a minute—where's the leap of faith here?
When you say I can't believe the Bible because this
part of it is just very very bad, well where's the leap
of faith? [12:57] https://youtu.be/AXkrw1VpwRI?t=777
I'll tell you where:
You are at that point showing enormous
faith in your cultural moment. Now let
me break that down, “culture moment”
3.1] Cultural Lense Biases Us Against the Bible
In our culture, Boston Harvard, we read the Bible
& we get to the place where it says no vengeance
70x7, you must forgive no matter what people do
to you. You must forgive!
No one must take vengeance & we say, “Go on!”
All right that's good, then you get to the place says
No sex outside marriage; sex is only for
a covenant relationship & is only for you
know a lifetime committed relationship
No sex outside of marriage & we go:
“That's regressive, that's primitive!”
Fine okay, let's take the Bible over to some other
culture—let's take it to a traditional culture, there
is quite a lot of traditional cultures in the world.
In Asia & Latin America,& Africa—let's take it to a
traditional culture & they sit down & start reading
& they get to where it says no sex outside marriage
I say good, that's right. Family values that
is good, I haven't remembered that I read
the Bible before. But this we like this part
& then you get to the thing no vengeance
no matter what they do to you, or to your
family. No vengeance.
…………………………………………………………………
That's nuts! OK now see here's the thing
you are very bent out of shape because
from your cultural position—this part of
the Bible is absolutely unacceptable.
…………………………………………………………………
So why should your culture sensibility trump their
culture sensibility? They think that's a great idea.
I have no sex outside marriage are you
real? Do you really want to say that my
culture's superior to all other cultures?
Therefore my cultural sensibilities & the things that
offend my cultural sensibilities are real problems..
That's the real problems we have with the Bible.
3.2] Selah: Total Recall Humiliation
Let's think about that for a moment.
Some of you are pretty young, so your grandparents
are pretty young. In fact some of you look like your
grandparents might be my age, maybe not quite.
But most of you are going to find that you're going
to love what your grandparents loved, and about a
3rd of the things that they believe — you are going
to be utterly embarrassed.
I mean didn't Obama even say that the other day?
Right in other words, you look back two or three
generations to your grandparents, or even your
great-grandparents — & you see the things that
they believe & you are just embarrassed by the
things that they have said & believed right? OK
You do realize don't you?
That about 1/3 to a 50% of the things that
you believe right now & all of your friends
believe [will sound moronic in a decade]
& here you are in the middle of Harvard
your grandchildren/great grandchildren
will be utterly embarrassed about half
the stuff that right now you are sure of
Has that thought never occurred to you & don't you
think you ought to be sort of looking your stuff over
a little bit to see:
I wonder which of these things might be
the things that I'm going to embarrass my
grandchildren over?
No you're not probably thinking very far
ahead are you? But you know what I am
trying to say?
If you say I'm not going anywhere near the Bible or
Christianity as this offends my cultural sensibility
When half of your cultural sensibility is
going to be obsolete in 50 years unless
you are sure that you've finally come to
the ultimate cultural moment.
That's not going to happen to my grand
children don't be ridiculous & so here's
the problem:
To say:
I'm just going to get rid of that part of
the Bible, it offends me & I don't listen
if the Bible for a moment's sake of
argument, if the Bible actually was
truth from GOD and if it really has
come down from GOD & is not the
product of one particular culture
…………………………………………………………………
If it's really truth from GOD it would offend every
culture at some point—and it would offend every
Century at some point.
Therefore if it offends you, that's what you would
expect if it was the truth & so we see what a leap
of faith it is!
…………………………………………………………………
A huge leap of faith to trust in your cultural moment.
Reason for GOD P,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 | Timothy J. Keller [Jude 1:23]
Y'know, I think you and a lot of people mistake House for being homophobic, racist, sexist, and transphobic (maybe a little more credit to that one, but if the show was being made in more modern day we might see otherwise). None of them remotely realize,
He's being edgy.
He's purposefully getting a rise out of people because he likes getting people angry at him.
If you listen to what he says when he ACTUALLY means what he's saying, he's actually progressive, especially for the time. He calls the HIV guy's dad a bigot because he thought he hated his son for being gay. He told the football player "you won't need to play sports now to get a good career" when his skin started to discolor to white. He literally said "white, skinny, pretty people make all the rules in society" at one point. All of his actions prove that he believes women are just as capable as men are, if not more so in some cases, especially with Thirteen and Amber. He's FIERCLEY pro choice and doesn't even try to hide it or pretend otherwise.
And while he definitely has some pretty terrible stuff going on with intersex/trans people, the show frames him in a bad way for doing so.
House is a horrendous person in a lot of ways, but he's not ACTUALLY a bigot. He just likes to pretend to be because he hates it when people like him and tries to push them away.
When Nina looked at Kaz, she couldn't quite believe her eyes. "Saints, Kaz, you actually look happy." "Don't be ridiculous" he snapped. But there was no mistaking it. Kaz Brekker was grinning like an idiot.
Aimsey: [While watching a Hideduo compilation, and seeing Fit message Pac "It's going to be ok"] Aww... That's fcked! Wait, what is it? "Sau–" wait, hold on. How do you say that? "Saudades?"
[He plays a clip of someone pronouncing Saudades and repeats the word several times to copy the pronunciation]
Aimsey: Ohhh, nostalgia! [Reading the definition] "Saudades is a word in Portuguese that claims no direct translation in English. However, a close translation in English would be "desiderium," defined as an ardent desire or longing, especially a feeling of loss or grief for something lost."
Aimsey: It's like "Hiraeth," yeah! It's like the Welsh word! Guys, I can teach you something! Wait- wait- wait– Chat I can teach you something!!! So, in Wales, in Welsh, we have a similar word! We have a similar word, ok? Um... [She plays an audio clip of someone pronouncing "Hiraeth"] Ok, ok, hold on, hold on. We have a similar word, yeah. So, in Welsh, there is the term "Hiraeth," which is a home– ok, I'm gonna explain: "Hiraeth" is a homesickness– lemme, lemme say it in chat... [They type out the word and verbally spell it out letter by letter] I'm gonna spam it.
Aimsey: SO! In Welsh, we have a very similar word, and the- like, the description for it is basically a deep longing for something, especially someone's home. And it's like a homesickness. [Pauses] And there are no direct English translation, but it basically mean like, a homesickness tinged with grief and sadness over the lost or departed. [Reading chat] Yes, you're all saying it right! Yeah, you're all saying it right! You're all saying it right!
Aimsey learns what "saudades" means, and teaches chat a similar word in Welsh. One of my favorite things about QSMP is seeing people learning about other cultures and seeing them get SO EXCITED when they get an opportunity to share their own culture or language with others :')💕
like, i think that neon white is obviously gunning for the 'embrace your inner cringe' ethos, but it doesn't work for me because my cringe middle school self wasn't drawing edgy half-demon half-vampire anime twinks with 100 belts, she was sneering at those people for not understanding that Real Art was writing a 10,000 word dictionary for your conlang for your fantasy world thats Like DND But Better (twice as many types of elves and the roman empire is there)
idk how to explain Sanremo to my international mutuals. it's like if eurovision had more rizz. like if the oscars were actually fun. somehow deeply culturally catholic and incredibly gay at the same time. they have a full orchestra just there vibing
ok ok, listen. I am gonna be straight with you. I am not a Patholic nerd and I really like the game. it has one of the most extraordinary stories/lore, plus its gloomy aesthetic is just my shit. but as a local Khalkh Mongolian, I very much dislike the herb bride designs. they have no inspiration from the cultures they are supposed to vaguely resemble, like literally nothing. i am a visual type of person and love it, ADORE it when shit is pretty to look at, it's in my blood. instead they opted for looking like straight-up savage unevolved cartoon cavewomen with skimpy outfits and foliage in their hair for good measure.
they look so out of place here, which you could argue its intentional but cmonnn???
here’s my take on how they could have looked like or at least what kind of things the devs missed out on:
—and their hair should have been braided in many different styles? all three of the major inspirations for the kin doesn’t like loose hair, if we are speaking traditionally. i really like these thin braids:
yeah, i get Orkhon economy is in shambles so no jewelry and colorful clothes but at least cover their boobage?? idk just slap on thin deel + belt and then just rough it up? make decorations out of wood?? and beads out of bones without just dangling them?? just because shit is desperate doesn't mean we gotta lose our dignity too?
edit: This post’s main point is not about restricting the nudity or the creative liberty i am only saying they should have approached this aspect from a different perspective with a native eyes on the IPL development team. It may have came off that way because i used the word boobage huh?
Drawings of some Rosarios and a beloved Fatima @bunnyangelart
The bottom pic makes me the happiest! Bunnii and I had mused ideas of the four of them having known each other in school as kids, and the idea stuck enough it became canon. Also any time drawing baby Adrián before he lost is eye is like u_u ….. mm
OH before anyone asks, Mani was asked to be the school mascot. It’s not his fursuit!!!! Realistically if anyone would have a fursuit, it’d be Adrián…….And Fatima (shes a warrior cats kid)
