It’s funny reading any of Holly’s love interests prior to Cardan and seeing just how nice they all are (messed up sure, but terribly gentle with their significant other, even prior to getting together).
And then you sit down to an author discussion and find out the reason Cardan Is Like That is because Holly kept on handing the manuscript over to reading partners, and Leigh was like ”he CAN BE MEANER. MAKE HIM MEANER” and that is absolutely hilarious, and also explains Holly’s departure from her classic love interest archetype.

I wanna post a good review of Book of Night by Holly Black because it was amazing and I think too many people are coming to it expecting it to be Jurdan 2.0 because all they've actually read by her is TFotA, but my brain is fried because I was up too late finishing it |||orz

☆ SERATA : A NIGHT OF REQUIEMS,  JULY SEASONAL 2023
A request from a village haunted by the semblance of a ghastly pale hand has arrived at the manor. It reads thus: "I pray that Master Curseworker Faust will find it in his heart to grace us with his presence. — We all live very different lives, and we all part for various reasons. I feel like I've gotten to touch but a fraction of his feelings throughout these few hundred years."

books i would like to read that i haven't found:
books that feel like the best 200k+ bucky barnes recovery fics. which is to say, books about recovering from trauma by people who understand it from the inside out. books about coming to terms with having done awful things. books about people who became a villain against their own will but now are clawing their way back to being just some guy. not a redemption arc that winds up as heroism, but finding equilibrium again and realising you don't always have to be the worst version of yourself. ideally these should be bleak and hilarious in equal measure.
books that feel like pride (2014). solidarity and friendship and queerness and labour rights, with different kinds of relationships given equal weight in terms of character arcs. friendships that hit romance beats and romance where you actually believe in their friendship. critique of the system that manages to be hopeful without ignoring the mess and the reality and the fact that progress can be slow and not all battles can be won.
more urban fantasy where the magic and supernatural stuff is widely known and integrated into society, like holly black's "coldest girl in coldtown" or "curseworkers" but ideally adult. featuring nerds. vampire museum consultants and shit like that. idk this one's a bit vaguer. ideally i would like this to not have witches because there is SO MUCH urban fantasy out there featuring witches and i just do not care about them. i want creatures. i want beasts. i want bizarrely specific inconveniences for werewolves with day jobs. i realise that Tom Holt has written a lot of these and maybe i should just go back to reading more Tom Holt but i would also like this to be queer and earnest in a way that his books don't tend to be
this is not an all-encompassing list but this is what i'm wanting right now. if you have suggestions that fit these categories, let me know.
please note, i do not want "it's not anything you've asked for, but..." flavoured suggestions. does it ACTUALLY resemble these descriptions (at least partially)? or are you just suggesting it because you want to suggest something, regardless of how useful the suggestion is? bc i see the latter a lot on book rec requests and it's not helpful tbh

I’ve just thought of something: while Prongsfoot are off on a Cursebreaker job, they encounter Mrs. Zabini, on her honeymoon with her third husband. James and Sirius have both heard the rumors that her previous two husbands died in suspicious circumstances, but they’ve also met this third husband and recall that he is one of the masterminds behind a nasty bit of legislation targeting werewolves (perhaps he’s a cousin of Umbridge); it didn’t pass, but they’ve never forgotten just who wrote it up. They both look at the bracelet he’s wearing, recognize the imminently lethal cursework in it, and go on their merry way. Sirius, having known Mrs. Zabini in his youth and having found her to be one of the more tolerable Slytherins as she was elitist but not a bigot (she wouldn’t talk to anyone poor, regardless of blood status) and also her sense of humor matched Sirius’s, tells her next time to not be so obvious in the cursed jewelry. A bunch of shenanigans occur throughout this job and the honeymoon, and by the end, Mrs. Zabini is a widow yet again and she’s invited to dinner at Jilypad’s place once a week. Whenever J and S have to miss a wedding to do a job, just say they’ll just attend her next one to make up. Her and Lily end up becoming best friends and Jilypad has definitely noticed that the grooms who object to a Muggleborn being Matron of Honor die far more painfully than the others
Okay I will post this one last Jilypad ask and then we are done with Jilypad on this blog 🤣
I do think that Prongsfoot should hook up with Mrs Zabini once in a while though. For funsies. What's life without a little risk, you know?

FAUST LAVINIA - WITH YOU, IN A WORLD ADRIFT (4th Anniversary SSR TL)
Tumblr media
(Please take everything with a big grain of salt as I'm far from fluent in Japanese, and feel free to leave corrections and input!)
✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧
Leader Skill: ‘What Was Left Behind’
Team Skill: ‘I Don’t Want to Lose Anyone Anymore’
✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧
HOME SCREEN LINES
“Truth is easily hidden behind lies and deception. I hope that, even in such a world, you’re able to remain as you are now…hah, that’s a wish unbecoming of a curseworker.”
“Today is a particularly special day for this manor of magic. I imagine there are a great many people wanting to talk to you, so I’ll just say this one thing. …To you, dear, I am sincerely grateful.”

CARD STORIES - The Risks Faced by a Curseworker
[ Episode One ]
{ Training Grounds }
It happened when I was passing by the training grounds.
NERO: Woah, it’s spread thin but still holdin’ strong, huh.
HEATHCLIFF: Isn’t it painful…?
FAUST: It stings a little, but it’s no big deal. It looks worse than it is.
AKIRA: (It’s the Eastern Wizards.
I thought they were having a class, but it seems like it’s something a little different…)
SHINO: Ah…Sage. You came at a good time. Check this out.
AKIRA: ? O-okay…
Acting upon Shino’s invitation, I joined the circle they’d formed.
What caught my eye within took my breath away.
AKIRA: Faust…?! Wh-what happened? That ominous pattern on the back of your hand…
With his gloves removed, a mysterious pattern carved in ochre red stood starkly against his pale skin, like a tattoo.
A brief look of discomfit passed over Faust’s face at my pronounced reaction.
FAUST: …You’re not used to seeing this kind of thing, are you. This is what we call a rebound curse.
AKIRA: A rebound curse?!
AKIRA: …Ah. Don’t tell me this is related to your cursework? A-are you okay?
FAUST: It’s not a problem. This rebound is probably from a job undertaken decades ago. It happens every now and then.
AKIRA: (Every now and then…)
NERO: Must be tough bein’ a curseworker and knowin’ that somethin’ dangerous like that could come back to bite ya the moment you forget about it.
FAUST: As I’ve said, my curses are essentially luck manipulation.  Nothing so serious as killing people.
FAUST: This was quite an involved technique, so it must have come undone over time. It’ll disappear in a few days regardless.
AKIRA: But even so…
AKIRA: (I can’t help but be worried about this rebound curse. I hope nothing comes of it…)
And then Shino, looking awfully curious, moved his fingertips closer to the pattern in question.
SHINO: Hey. Am I good to touch this?
HEATHCLIFF: Ah, hey!
SHINO: Ow! Oi, that hurt.
FAUST: Don’t touch me without permission and then complain about it.
FAUST: If you’re a wizard, then touching it won’t do you much harm. A curse is a curse, but this is only the dregs of one, with little to no power left in it…
He shifted the lightly chiding gaze he was levelling at Shino in my direction.
His expression changed suddenly to one of seriousness.
FAUST: It’s a different case for you, Sage.
FAUST: I can’t say that someone with no magic nor resistance to it would go unharmed. Given that you’re a human, don’t touch me for a while.
AKIRA: I-I understand…I’ll be careful.
FAUST: Right. Now, this is a rare opportunity. Let’s use this for today’s lesson.
NERO │HEATHCLIFF: Huh.
FAUST: I’ve told you about rebound curse techniques before. Sage, you’re welcome to listen in, too, if you’d like.
NERO: No no no, hang on. Is a curse that’s been returned to you standard teachin’ material?
SHINO: I mean…it’s Faust. Everything’s teaching material to his guy.
AKIRA: (He really is indomitable…)
[ Episode Two ]
{ Kitchen }
AKIRA: (I guess…nothing’s happened to Faust since then.)
It was later that night.
Thinking about the day’s events, I stepped into the kitchen to find just the person I had been worrying about brewing some coffee.
FAUST: Sage? Are you after something to drink, too?
AKIRA: Ah…yes. I was thinking of getting some water before I went to bed. The coffee smells good.
FAUST: It does. Not something you should drink before bed, though.
Faust sighs out a laugh.
He makes a subtle retreat, putting some distance between us.
AKIRA: …How’s the curse? Did it get any worse after this morning,,,?
FAUST: It’s nothing. As you can see, it’s not worth worrying about.
FAUST: In the first place, I wouldn’t accept a job I couldn’t handle.
AKIRA: I guess that’s true. Sorry, I’ve asked so many times…
FAUST: Sage?
AKIRA: (I’ve known about Faust’s work for a while now, and it’s not like I’ve been trying to deny it, but…)
AKIRA: (Having actually seen him receive that pattern today, I feel like I’ve once again been reminded of the risks he faces as a curseworker.)
AKIRA: The rebound curse may have been minor this time, but…
AKIRA: Since you’ve been doing this job for a long time, I can’t help thinking that some of it must have been more dangerous, and that worries me…
FAUST: …Don’t make that face. This job suits me.
The smile of self-derision that he wore was softer than I expected.
Taking a moment to breathe, Faust slowly lowered his eyelashes.
FAUST: It’s already late; you should head back to your room.
AKIRA: …Got it. Ah, right. Before I go, here.
FAUST: Something in a small bottle? It smells nice.
AKIRA: It’s a perfumed oil I found at the markets. Apparently it can be used like a balm, so I bought it for myself a while ago, but.
AKIRA: Even if your injury isn’t a flesh wound, maybe it could help with the sensation a little  bit. Please help yourself.
Trying to offer it without touching him directly, I put the bottle on the steady counter, and he carefully wrapped his long fingers around it.
FAUST: …Yes, I’ll borrow this. Thank you.
AKIRA: Okay, good night!
✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧
{ Faust’s Room }
FAUST: (A balm to mitigate pain, huh…)
FAUST: (It doesn’t really hurt at all, and even if it did, it could be handled with magic.)
FAUST: Seriously…They really are a strange kid, to worry like this about someone whose job is to curse others.
FAUST: (...It’s a mixture of flowers, herbs, and fragrant wood. Like the kid said, it seems like it’d be effective in treating sensations of pain.)
FAUST: …
FAUST: …Mhm…It’s a nice, calming scent…
[ Episode Three ]
{ Field of Flowers }
AKIRA: Oh, over there, that’s…
A few days later. While I was out for a stroll, I saw Faust, who seemed to be preparing for something by a brook in the forest.
As I approached to call out to him, he took off his gloves, revealing his bare skin.
The ominous tattoo that had appeared there was nowhere to be seen.
AKIRA: Faust…! Thank goodness, the curse is gone!
FAUST: Sage.
FAUST: Yeah, thanks for your help. However, I thought I’d perform a purification ritual, just to make sure.
AKIRA: I see. So that’s why you have all these different tools lined up. Is there anything I can do to help?
FAUST: Huh?
AKIRA: Hm?
Faust’s hands suddenly stilled and his eyes, for a reason I couldn’t discern, widened.
AKIRA: Ah, um, the pattern’s gone already, so I thought it’d be okay, but maybe it’s still no good?
Having blurted my question at a strange moment, Faust laughed in amusement.
FAUST: No, it’s alright now.
FAUST: To be unafraid, and instead asking to help; you’re indomitable.
AKIRA: (For Faust to say that of me…)
FAUST: Well, for your efforts, I’ll take you up on that offer.
AKIRA: Right!
With practised hands, Faust carefully arranged the fragrant wood, medicinal plants, and prayer beads.
While waiting for orders nearby so as to not get in his way, I asked him the question that had been on my mind for the past few days.
AKIRA: Um…you said that curse on the back of your hand was the result of a job you did a long time ago.
AKIRA: Have you taken on any cursework jobs lately?
Faust didn’t pause at my question.
He continued to work quietly as he answered.
FAUST: I don’t have time for that. Every day has been hectic since I started staying at the magic manor.
FAUST: I wonder why it is that I, a curseworker, am busying myself with trying to quell the strange phenomena occurring across the world.
The way he replied with a sigh made it seem as though he was saying, without stating outright, that he couldn’t stand the trouble of it all.
But I already know that he’s an upstanding person, and that it’s not in his nature to leave people alone when they’re in trouble.
FAUST: « Satilliuqnart Mullcreed »
AKIRA: Oh, the water…excuse me.
The back of Faust’s hand began to glow as he sprinkled it slowly with water.
Like it was sublimating, the water rapidly turned to smoke.
At that moment, a familiar scent hit my nose.
AKIRA: (This smell is…)
AKIRA: Faust, did you use that perfumed oil I gave you?
FAUST: Yeah. It didn’t do much against the curse, but the scent was nice and soothing.
He answered softly, with his eyes closed, leaving me slack jawed.
AKIRA: If it helped you even just a little, then I’m glad.
AKIRA: …Everything’s gone now, right? Including the curse?
Faust gently held out the hand which had carried the curse to me.
FAUST: Wanna touch it and see?
The casual attitude was unusual for him.
He looked just a little roguish with his eyes narrowing behind his glasses.
[ Sub-Episode: Faust and the Door to the Past ]
AKIRA: I’ve heard that a door that allows you to look into the past has appeared on the beach of Borda Island.
AKIRA: Speaking of the past, when I’d just arrived in this world and was still really anxious about it, there was a certain memory I’d think of to put myself at ease.
FAUST: That memory being?
AKIRA: Of being a child and having a book read to me by an adult I trusted.
FAUST: I see. That’s very you.
AKIRA: What do you do to comfort yourself when you’re feeling lonely, Faust?
FAUST: Comfort for loneliness? For me, solitude is in and of itself a comfort.
AKIRA: (I should’ve known…Faust cut himself off from the world for a long time.)
AKIRA: But…Didn’t you ever feel lonely when you were alone?
FAUST: Good grief.
FAUST: I led a quiet and peaceful life free of disturbances.
FAUST: I never felt lonely surrounded by nature.
AKIRA: So nature felt like your companion?
FAUST: Yes, certainly…
FAUST: You don’t get angry with company in the form of plants, even if they don’t flower or fruit.
FAUST: And yet, the same can’t be said for company in the form of humans. I wonder why.
AKIRA: In either case…Doesn’t it have to do with your expectations? Wanting things to be a certain way, or wishing they would be another.
FAUST: …Maybe, but…
FAUST: Wanting to be believed or to not be burned at the stake are natural things to expect from a friendship…
FAUST: …
FAUST: (Strained exhale)...
AKIRA: (He was on the brink of getting angry about a memory, but managed to restrain himself…)
FAUST: Anyway, I’m sorry I don’t have an insightful answer for you, but my solitude isn’t something that requires comfort.
FAUST: I’m the type to find comfort in it. Unfortunately.
AKIRA: You like being alone, huh.
FAUST: I do.
AKIRA: Then, do you not really like talking to me like this…?
FAUST: …
FAUST: The troubling thing is that I don’t hate it.

I’d forgotten Jesse Eisenberg plays Blu in Rio. This isn’t to say I’ve ever seen Jesse Eisenberg in anything else, no, but he does narrate all three audiobooks in Holly Blacks Curseworkers series and does a phenomenal job at making Cassel’s life sound absolutely miserable.

[Hymn of Serata on the Requiem Night] Chapter 2
Rustica: The view is splendid and the scenery is breathtaking; it’s a shame that there’s no liveliness from the people to be found.
← Previous ✧ Directory ✧ Next →
Location: Remote Central Village
Time: Morning
Tumblr media
Akira: We’ve arrived…! That was quite the flight.
I fix my hair, which was disheveled from the wind, while surveying the surrounding area.
A serene hilly landscape stretches around. Beneath the boundless blue sky, houses can be seen scattering the spaces between the hills.
Faust: It was a longer trip than I anticipated, but this place sure has a pleasant atmosphere. Both the roads and the houses are beautifully maintained.
Akira: I agree…. Faust, thank you for accompanying me. Having you here is really reassuring.
Faust: It’s nothing. I didn’t expect Oz to mention me, but refusing would be more troublesome for me.
Moreover, if the anomaly possesses a cursed nature of sorts, it’s certainly within my expertise. It would be best to begin investigating while I’m in the mood for it.
Akira: Of course! Lennox, thanks for giving us a ride too!
Lennox: You’re welcome. We’ve gone quite the long distance, do you feel unwell at all?
Akira: Not at all, it was really comfortable. Lennox’s broom feels very stable.
Tumblr media
Lennox: Haha, that’s good to hear.
Lennox, who’s carrying his large broom in hand, has also heard about the village investigation. Upon me asking Faust for help, he offered to accompany us.
Akira: And you too, Bradley. Thank you for coming along with us.
Yesterday, I was pretty surprised to hear that you would be joining us….
Bradley: Hmph. It’s all that damn miserable curseworker’s fault. He tricked me into this.
He did some sneaky shit with the twins. They were followin’ me around from dawn to dusk, bitchin’ at me about how I ‘ave to go help with a request.
Faust: I merely consulted with Snow and White for advice. It was a necessary precaution in the event that things may turn dangerous.
If we could have your support, it’d be a great help. But rest assured, I’m not trying to deceive anyone here, so there’s no reason for you to call me “miserable” like that. I’d like an apology.
Bradley: Whatever. The great Bradley-sama has already gone out of his way to tag along. If anything, it should be me yer apologizin’ to, so I don’t wanna hear it.
Faust: My role is to report back. The twins will be the one handling the decision-making.
Tumblr media
Arthur: Kenja-sama!
Then, the wizards who went looking for water returned. Rutile offers a water bottle and pops open the lid for me.
Rutile: Here you go, there’s a well at the end of the clearing, so we brought back some water from there.
Akira: Thank you. Was the clearing empty as well?
Cain: Yeah. As expected, it seems that people are wary of the anomalies and decide to stay indoors.
Rustica: The view is splendid and the scenery is breathtaking; it’s a shame that there’s no liveliness from the people to be found.
I heard that the strange phenomena appears at night, but to be so afraid even during daytime like this… How unfortunate.
Riquet: Yes. We need to quickly offer our support and guide the hearts of those who are deeply distressed by this unsettling phenomenon.
Lennox: That’s right. We should talk to the residents first while it’s still bright outside. Bradley, let’s go.
Bradley: Why me? Hey, sensei; time for you to take the lead.
Faust: Oi, don’t pull! Hah, seriously….
Cain: Haha. Faust, your hair got a bit messed up there.
Riquet: Come on, no more stalling. Let’s go visit the home of the person who requested help.
If I recall, it was the one with a red roof… Ah, it’s that one over there.
Bradley: Ooh, look who’s full of energy. Don’t run, fall, ‘nd cry, alright?
Tumblr media
Riquet: I won’t run, and I won’t fall either. Don’t treat me like a child.
Rutile: Even so, it sure is quiet, isn’t it? Even though they’re all staying indoors, it would’ve been nice to feel more of a human presence…
Akira: Surely, that report can’t be true, that everyone was dragged into the darkness afterwards…. That’s not possible, is it?
Arthur: No… It appears that there’s likely no need for us to be concerned about that. Look.
In the direction that Arthur’s finger points at, a thin stream of smoke can be seen rising towards the sky.
Akira: That’s a relief…! The villagers really seem to be staying indoors. Plus, I can smell a pleasant aroma as well.
Lennox: It looks like smoke from cooking. They appear to have the energy to eat, so we can be at ease for the moment.
Rustica: This aroma, is it stew? It’s Arthur-sama’s favorite, isn’t it?
Arthur: Yeah, what a strange coincidence. Last night, at the Wizard Manor, Oz-sama and Nero prepared stew.
Bradley: That eastern cook and Oz as a pair…?
Riquet: Oz is more like a taste-tester. I also helped out with the taste testing.
Rutile: Seems like you two discovered a new flavor while we were attending that wedding in the Southern Country the other day. [1]
Riquet: It’s a little salty, but when you spread it on bread and eat it, it’s really delicious! Soft and fluffy bread pairs wonderfully with it….
Faust: ……Are you guys that hungry?
It doesn’t seem like a situation where we’ll be offered a meal, but regardless, we should open this door first.
Riquet: You’re right…. Ahem. Well then, may I call out to the people inside?
Faust: …No, I’ll handle this.
Man's Voice: …..Who is it?
A few moments after knocking; a low, quizzical voice came through the door.
Akira: (…..His voice is trembling.)
Even though we cannot see the owner of the voice, we can feel his frightened presence.
Faust turns to the door, which is still closed, and calls out indifferently.
Tumblr media
Faust: We are the Sage’s Wizards.
I believe you have sent a request to the Wizard Manor regarding the anomalies that have been occurring in the village. In response, we have come to investigate.
Man's Voice: Investigate…..
After a moment of contemplation, the door opens hesitantly.
A middle-aged man with brown hair appears. His family can be seen behind him, each of them wearing an expression of nervousness and anticipation in their eyes.
Brown Haired Man: You guys are the Sage’s Wizards….. In that case, how do you plan to deal with that….?
Faust: By “that”, do you mean what you mentioned in the request? The white thing that roams during midnight….
Bradley: “This” ‘nd “that”, just say it already. Yer talkin’ ‘bout the hands that creep ‘round in the middle of the night, aren’t ya.
Brown Haired Man: Eek! P-Please don’t talk about it so loudly!
Curly Haired Old Woman: That’s right…..! If you talk about it, it might come for you……!
Riquet: Doesn’t the anomaly only appear at night? It’s still not even noon right now.
Rustica: Please, do not be so afraid. We are here for that very purpose.
Brown Haired Man: E-Even if you say so… That scene is something I can’t simply forget. Every now and then, I feel like it’s slowly creeping up behind me….
Akira: (The mere mention of the topic is enough for them to act so scared… We’ll need to put their minds at rest, first.)
Please, rest assured. We’ll find out what’s going on and get to the bottom of this.
Cain: Yeah. It must’ve been frightening with so many unknown things going on, but from this point forward, we will conduct a thorough investigation.
Tumblr media
Arthur: In order to keep this enchanting village a soothing place for everyone; we will put forth our utmost effort.
Convinced by the friendly and dependable wizards, the man’s tension slowly loosened. As proof of that, the door in front of us opens wider.
Brown Haired Man: ……It is we who should be thanking you. I’ve heard rumors that requests to resolve anomalies are pouring in from all around the world.
Even though I sent the request letter, there was no certainty that you all would come to this remote area. As I think about that, I feel so uneasy…
It seems that everyone was hiding inside their homes, observing us quietly. Before long, people begin to gather in small groups.
Curly Haired Old Woman: Oh, truly, the wise Sage’s Wizards have come! How fortunate we are…
Woman in an Apron: Are you also a wizard too? You look like such a remarkable individual, like a distinguished mercenary.
Lennox: Haha. It’s true that I'm better at fighting with my bare hands, but I'm a wizard too.
And, I’m a shepherd too. Look. [2]
Girl with Freckles: Wah, a small sheep! So cute…..!
Old Man with a Crooked Back: Oh dear, it’s really kind of you to come all the way to this remote village.
Girl with Freckles: Surely, it’s because Prince Arthur is so kind. He must’ve requested the wizards to come and rescue my home from this dire crisis.
Isn’t that right, Mother?
Girl's Mother: That’s right. Prince Arthur loves everyone in the Central Country.
Girl with Freckles: Oh, if only I could thank the Prince in person.
Cain and Riquet, who heard the villagers talking, whisper to Arthur in hushed tones.
Cain: Hear that, Prince Arthur?
Riquet: Somehow, it’s a bit frustrating, isn’t it? Arthur-sama is right here.
Arthur, beaming from hearing the whispers, gently bends down to meet the freckled girl's eyes.
Arthur: I will definitely let Prince Arthur know how thankful you are. I’m certain the Prince will be delighted.
Girl with Freckles: Ahh, I’m glad…! Please pass my thanks on, Wizard-san.
Boy wearing Shorts: Hey, hey; are you guys really real wizards? Show us some magic!
Tumblr media
Rutile: Of course we are! « Ortonik • Setomaouge »
As Rutile’s gentle voice echoes and the wind blows, the colorful flowers form a circle around the children.
Rustica: We can also do this sort of thing. « Amoresuto • Viesse »
With a gentle poof, the flowers change into cute little birds and flit around the children.
Girl with Freckles: So cool, so cool! So this is real magic….!
Boy wearing Shorts: Hey, big bro, can you show us something too?
Bradley: Hah? Who do ya think yer messin’ with? Magic ain’t just for tricks. Don’t take a wizard lightly, lad.
Mustached Man: Haha. I’ll be able to brag to the neighbors that I met the Sage’s Wizards after this.
Akira: (What a relief….. The people in the village look much happier now compared to earlier.)
Faust: ……Even if it’s a remote village, it still harbors the spirit of the Central Country.
Lennox: Yes. It seems that what Faust-sama was worried about has been avoided for the time being.
Faust: Yeah. In remote areas, there are often strong prejudices against wizards.
Tumblr media
Faust: Even so, the given situation is already riddled with uncertainties. There’s no telling what might happen…. But it seems I worried needlessly.
this is a cute call back to the recent june bride event!

Yeah cursework is great, but before you fuck up your day and time doing all that, have you considered just leaving their life? Sometimes the real magic is tending to yourself and in the process cursing them to a life without you. The mundane is magical.
Go cursin' loves

We ended up thinking about a few characters for this one, so we didn't have a specific Work in mind for the question! But our mind makes us think of Mitch and Neal, so maybe we will include the entire Anderson Immortal Family for this one! And we went a little literal than hypothetical, but these items are things that if they could always prepare and be ready, they would have these things! c:
~ Mitch doesn't really carry thing around his person, and he honestly is more likely to have nothing than many things - his inventory slots would be abysmal, without his pockets in a video game - but the one thing he always ends up having is a pen, paper, and marble.
The marble is a special one, from one of the few people that he absolutely adores and he loves collecting marbles in general, so this one is extra special, a marble made just for him. And the pen is bc that Mitch is a seeker of Knowledge, but also a giver. He will always be ready to share Knowledge, even if it is just a name; the paper would be an added bonus, but jean pockets aren't always the best spot to place papers or notebooks.
~ Neal holds albinism, and a very aggressive form of it, so the one thing he is never allowed to leave home without is his cloak. It is made especially to keep him cool, help with making sure his body is protected from the Sun, and also holds a hood and capabilities to stand the elements of the World. And while he absolutely hates having to wear it, he also hates making his Family worry, so he always always has his cloak.
~ Taylor is going to be the only one who actually prepares for everything, and his inventory slots are very impressive, bc he tends to carry an entire backpack on his person. And he always makes sure to hold something to drink, something to eat, and first aid pieces, in case things get sour.
He also holds some special Magicks and affinities, so he tends to hold random objects that will be in need at some point at time during his time away from home, including ointment for Neal, bc the child is the absolute worst about his own condition.
~ Shane is almost exactly like Taylor, but he is never without his Curseworking equipment and normally leaves the more mundane things to his Twin. So Taylor will have the obvious things, and Shane will be ready to deal with anything unsavory that comes for him, especially bc trouble does love to find him.
And it is probably like... a seventy-five percent chance that any one of them have all of those items with them, most of the time, everyone save Taylor finds their inventory lacking, especially Neal, he is our gentle and loving King, but he is also a little stupid, we are sorry. (≧∇≦*)
