It’s a... toad. Going to be honest here.. I have no idea how to ID that one. looks to me like a Rhinella diptycha, sometimes referred to as Cope's toad, Schneider's toad, cururu toad, or rococo toad. But I can’t say for sure so.. anyone seeing this, if you know someone who knows their toad, i’d be glad for a proper ID.
In the meantime I’ll go with a fact from the wiki of the Cope’s toad: Rhinella diptycha is a widespread and very common species that occurs in a variety of habitats but most commonly in open and urban ones. It breeds in permanent and temporary ponds, preferring ones without much vegetation. Its natural habitats include dry savanna, freshwater marshes, and intermittent freshwater marshes. It is threatened by habitat loss. It is sometimes kept as a pet, but pet trade is not occurring at levels that would constitute a threat.

For people who enjoy animation and fantastical stories, i highly recomend the brazilian animated movie Tarsilinha, directed by Célia Catunda and Kiko Mistrorigo (who created the animated series Fishtronaut and The Luna Show for the Discovery Kids channel), wich is now in the catalogue of the Amazon Prime Vídeo and of the Telecine Play.
Tumblr media
Inspired by the work of the painter Tarsila do Amaral, the greatest name of the Brazilian Modernist Art Movement, the movie tells the story of an eight year old girl who goes on a journey to recover her mother's memories, wich were stolen by the envious villain Caterpillar.
Tumblr media
The movie is a representative of the Portal Fantasy genre, made famous by works like Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, The Narnia Chronicles and Spirited Away.
Tumblr media
The magical world shown in the movie is no less than the paintings of Tarsila do Amaral and its characters brought to life.
Tumblr media
This includes her interpretations of the figures of brazilian folklore like the Cuca and the Saci-Pererê, her own inventions like the Armadillo-Bird, a singing Monkey who presents enigmas in rhymes, and the fun Saponaldo (or simply Cururu Frog/Cururu Toad), Tarsilinha's travelling companion who dreams of winning a kiss to become a Prince.

Herpeto Cerrado
The name emerged in 2005 from the combination of "Herpeto", a shortened version of Herpetology (Greek herpetón + gr lógos+ia - which could be translated as the science that studies crawling creatures), a branch of Zoology that studies reptiles and amphibians) and "Cerrado", also known as Brazilian Savanna, a biome with great biodiversity where the city of Uberlândia, the headquarters of our activities, is located.
In the logo, we have the silhouette of four animals studied by herpetology found in the region:
Rhinella diptycha, a toad commonly known as "cururu" or "sapo-boi";
Salvator merianae, a lizard commonly known as "teiú";
Chelonoidis carbonarius, a tortoise commonly known as "jabuti-piranga";
Boa constrictor, a common boa found in the Cerrado.
Our activities will focus on snakes, but occasionally (until partnerships are established), we will also publish about other groups of animals studied by herpetology. We will also publish about venomous animals, as it is a demand naturally created by the population.
The logo was created by our longtime partner @jimmyrus13, responsible for the page @o.qstudiun. Thank you very much for the excellent work, Jimmy!

We all know it’s risky to let your cats outdoors. But I don’t think anyone expected one of the risks to be that an extremely fat toad might eat all their food then sit in their water bowl. This native Cururu toad [Rhinella jimi] was found on the porch of photographer Helder da Rocha in Joao Pessoa, Brazil. These toads are very common in their range, and are frequently found near human settlements. Pet owners should keep their animals away from these toads, as they possess potent toxins which can cause serious harm or even death when consumed.

--- ENGLISH --- Did you know that frogs also have ticks? I found this cururu toad one night on an expedition for the Últimos Refúgios Instituto. Almost the size of a shoe, he stood on the lawn hunting insects at night. It was interesting because he had no fear of me. I even noticed the ticks.
#natureza #nature #wildlife #brasil #brazil #fotografiadenatureza #naturephotography #vidaselvagem #wildlifephotography #conservationphotography #awesome #beautiful #amazing #VidaRealGo #RealLifeGo #ultimosrefugios

A pair of Schneider’s toads [Rhinella diptycha] demonstrating the incredible size variation between individual adults. Females can reach a body length of nearly 10 inches, whereas males typically max out at 7.1 inches. These specimens were found in Goias, Brazil, by Mario Barroso.
