Additional Notes: Ok so this fic was meant to be posted way earlier lmao. Had trouble writing this for the longest time cuz this one scene set the fic up to be quite similar to the fic “Anime Night” by Dan Rush (which is a gr8 fic btw), and I wasn’t happy with that, so I went on a hiatus but realized all I needed to do was remove that one scene and keep writing, so now the fic is finished yay!!!

(As usual, the fic is under the cut!)
“Hey, Reno! I'm ba-”
“Pass me the screw.”
“Oh.” Astro walked up to Reno. “Is it bad?”
“Ehhh sorta… just a little tedious.”
Astro set the bag in his hand down on the couch after giving him the screw.
Reno walked away from the broken robot for a moment to sit by his computer, punching in numbers with the keyboard.
“Oooo ouch, that looks painful, wonder what happened to this little guy.” Astro looked a bit squeamish when he finally took a look at the broken bot.
“Probably some sort of accident,” Reno replied, his eyes glued to the screen.
“Hmmmm….” Astro picked up a tool.
“Wait! I have to input a few things before we continue!”
“Oh.” Astro put the tool back down and walked over to Reno.
“Seems like this isn't their first time getting hurt.” He commented.
“Hmmm?” Reno looked at him.
“Above that, you have another report. And… for the same type of accident!”
“Oh yeah.” Reno scrolled up. “Looks like this one happened just a week ago too.”
“Do you think we should be concerned?”
“Nah, at least not for now… we can worry about it later.” Reno stood up. “Back to work.” He smiled.
Astro nodded and walked over to the other side, picking up the tool he had put down earlier.
“Dang that was a lot of work.” Astro held the entryway door to the ministry open for Reno to leave.
“Well yeah, but you did a pretty good job today,” Reno commented. “Thank you.” He said on his way out the door.
Astro chuckled and closed the door behind him.
He caught up with Reno who was already halfway down the stairs. “Are we ordering takeout again?”
Reno shrugged.
“Well if we do… I'd like an egg roll this time…”
“Hey, it’s Astro! HEY ASTRO!!! OVER HERE!!”
“Wha?” Astro spun around trying to figure out who was calling him.
“Oh. Hey guys!!!” He called out after seeing his friends waving at him from afar.
Both Reno and he crossed the street to go meet up with them.
“Man, I haven’t seen you guys in forever!” Astro exclaimed.
“Well we figured with your job and all, you’d be too busy to hang out…”
“Oh!” Astro looked shocked. “Nonono.” He waved his hands. “I may have my job, but I’m definitely not busy! Right Reno?” He looked up at his boyfriend.
“Yeah… we’ve been just chilling this whole time.” Reno replied.
“Do you maybe wanna hang out? We we’re just about to take a trip to the Eleven-Eleven?” Astro offered.
“Well uh actually-”
“We’d love to!”
“Actually…. We have somewhere to be…”
“What no we can-”
“We’ll catch up another time…”
“Oh um… okay then, see ya!” Astro walked away disappointed, waving goodbye before going back to holding Reno’s hand.
“You OK there buddy?” Reno asked, looking down at the sad bot.
Astro sighed. “No…. I just…. I feel really bad.”
“Hey…” Reno began. “It’s not your fault- they didn’t even wanna hang out anyways so it really doesn’t matter if you told them now or last December.”
“Well yeah but… I dunno… I…. hmm.”
“Am I…. pushing them away?”
Reno stopped walking. “No.”
“Then…. What am I doing wrong?”
Reno sighed. “Look, we can try and hang out together again some other time, I’m sure by then they won’t be busy doing whatever it is they’re gonna do. Just don’t beat yourself up over it.”
Astro nodded. “You have a point.”
“Oh, Reno!! Look at this!!” Astro exclaimed.
“Hmm?” He walked over to him.
“Cherry bomb.” He said aloud.
“That must be really good- we should get that one!”
“Yeah, and also a huge brain freeze.”
“So? I can take it!”
“Hmmm….” Reno walked over to the slurpey™ machine.
“Should we get a large or a medium? Wait are we splitting this??”
“We could split.” Reno pulled out a large cup.
Astro walked away to look at the other stuff offered at the Eleven-Eleven, from aisles upon aisles of chips to the weird looking hot dog machine that probably hasn't been maintained in months, this place had it all.
“Geez, never knew humans needed this many flavors of chip- I mean look at this one, it's cappuccino flavored!”
Reno walked up to Astro with his cup in hand, “I'm not buying that.” he obnoxiously took a sip.
“Didn't say I wanted it but okay…”
Reno chuckled, then held out the cup.
“Don't mind if I do.” Astro gladly took the cup and sipped from it. “Shit! Getting some really bad cold impulses… maybe this is a bit too cold for my system to handle.”
Reno took the cup back, “And you complain about robots not being allowed in the ice rink…”
“Well, that’s… different.” Astro cringed.
“Mmmhmm,” Reno replied in a passive-aggressive tone.
Astro sighed, then turned to face the windows he looked at. “I think I'm going to visit O’shay today.”
“Whatever fruits your loops bud… that sounds really wrong out of context.”
“I’ll be back!” Astro waved goodbye as he walked out of the Eleven-Eleven.
“See ya!” Reno waved back.
Astro knocked on the door of O’shay’s house and waited outside for a moment so he could answer.
“Oh, Astro! How nice to see you again.” He greeted.
“Hi, professor!” Astro waved with a smile.
“Do you wanna come inside?”
“Oh! Sure.” Astro proudly walked through the door.
“Doesn’t seem like much has changed since I last came….” He said, sitting at the table.
“Well, you'd be right about that, ever since you left, there hasn't been a need for much.”
“Oh… really? Wow…” Astro looked disappointed.
“Not to worry, I have Zoran to keep me company, speaking of Zoran… where is she?”
“Probably upstairs playing dolls or something.” Astro shrugged.
“....So uh…. I kinda wanted to talk about something.”
“You do? Sure, I'm all ears!”
“W-w...well… I uh… I just wanna know if you're okay with Reno and me-”
“Astro… don't get worried about that… it doesn't matter at this point anyways…”
“Well yeah, b-but I just want your appro-”
“You’ll get it someday… just not now.”
“B-b-but… t-that’s why I came! I-I wanna fix this!! How can I fix this?!”
O’shay did not respond.
“P-professor… please?”
He got up and walked away, leaving Astro with watery eyes.
“I-I-I…. I Just wanted your acceptance!” He cried.
“I-I don't wanna be a distant- freakshow! To you… I just wanna be your child…. B-but… I can't even be that, can I? Will you let me be just that?”
No response.
Tears streamed down Astro’s face, he soon got up and decided to leave.
Back at the lab, Reno was sitting at his desk, finishing the slurpey™ he had and eating Ramen noodles.
Astro came in not too long after, sitting on the couch curled up into a ball.
“You okay there, definitely not Captain America?”
Astro shook his head.
Reno got up from his chair and walked to Astro, then sat down next to him.
“Something happen at O’shay’s?” He pried Astro's hands away to see his face.
Astro nodded.
“Do you wanna… talk about it?”
Astro cleared his throat. “I-I guess…”
“I…. talked to him…. about us.”
Reno tried hard not to sigh.
“I just…. wanted to be accepted… but… he doesn't even care!”
Reno put an arm around him to comfort him.
“Don't worry Astro… you don't need everyone’s approval… that's not even why we started dating.”
Astro nodded.
“And besides, you're here… you don't have to worry about what he thinks if you're not even around him.”
“....Yeah.” Astro sniffled.
Reno chuckled, pulling Astro close for a hug.
Astro smiled, enjoying the feeling of his warmth.
Reno felt proud of himself for a moment, the thought of his own words actually having an impact on someone he deeply cared and loved about buzzed around for awhile as he held Astro some more.
Astro seemed to simmer down when the comfort started becoming therapeutic for him again, it was like the world had finally slowed back down to its normal pace.
“I should really stop overreacting if I’m honest with myself…” Astro chuckled.
“Well, it’s not bad to feel… it’s just… bad to get worked up over the little things, you know?”
Astro nodded in response.
Reno reached over to ruffle his hair but then retracted when Astro gave him a confused look.
“For a second I thought it was real…” He sheepishly admitted.
Astro laughed, “Don’t worry, I get that a lot.”
Reno got up from the couch and walked over to his desk. “Warmed up some Ramen for you.” He handed Astro a bowl.
“Oh boy, how fancy! Very delicious, indeed!” Astro sarcastically replied. ((I felt so tempted to write this line in Spanish but ironically I speak/write 0 Spanish and I don’t trust Google Translate so y’all gonna have to deal with my shitty English jokes ~Emily))
Reno tried not to laugh.
“Almost makes me wish I had more of that slurpey™…”
