@ California mutuals: If it hasn't already been said: Try not to walk in flood water. If a power line is down its a perfect recipie for getting electrocuted. Its likely also dirty and full of sewage. Sometimes theres no choice, so if you DO end up walking in flood water, beware: if you see a patch or raft of brown like this, it's fire ants. They all climb on each other to form a raft and it's TERRIFYING (and cool to watch. ) Yes those are ALL fire ants.

I got in one (1) night's moth-ing before the weather turned again, but fingers crossed for tomorrow 💖🦋
Until we're past the gales, here's some super-cute moths from previous years to remind you that:
- moths are beautiful
- they pollinate ur plants at night
- their caterpillars are essential food for baby birds
- they're a crucial part of many ecosystems, with life cycles connected to those of trees and wildflowers, birds, and lots of other invertebrates
The moths in the pics are: small emerald, blood vein, small blood vein, tree lichen beauty, box tree moth, orange swift, scorched wing, riband wave & willow beauty, brimstone moth.
Thank you from the Moth Promotional Board ✨🦋✨

If Machete and Vasco were insects, Machete would definitely be a white plume moth (Pterophorus pentadactylus) but what would Vasco be?
I've never seen a living thing that looked this much like a windblown tuft of asbestos fibres.
Tumblr media
For Vasco, I think I'm going to go with african peach moth (Egybolis vaillantina) that someone suggested earlier.

FORMLINE SCORPION 🦂🌃
Tumblr media
This piece was done as a contest entry for a local contest that unfortunately did not win. Because of that, I feel comfortable sharing it here. This was a pretty experimental piece and I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out.
This piece in question was based off the Northern Scorpion (Paruroctonus boreus), which is the only species of scorpion that lives in Canada and also known to glow a bright blue under UV light. (pictured below)
Tumblr media
I'm kinda sad I didn't win, but I'm still proud of how the piece turned out. (Also this piece got finished around the end of October last year, so it's been on the backburner in terms of posting for a while lmao)
