Grateful for grocery stores! And family! And also the potential of a new place!
But definitely grocery stores. The fact that I can decide at eight at night that I want some mango despite having raised zero mango trees or indeed living anywhere remotely close to where mango trees grow and just go pick up a bag of mango is a majorly underappreciated feature of my part of the world.

A present for @chickenparm who went wild when I mentioned he’d probably look like this waiting at the bus stop for you to arrive so y’all can go on a date together. 🙃

You know, expanding public transit infrastructure is a really important part of decreasing fossil fuel emissions, providing more accessible transit to people, and reducing road traffic, however I think there is another part of this process that needs desperately to be said:
Seriously, that essentially makes it NOT public transit because it operates under the assumption that ALL members of the public have access to money, which is just not true. Working class people are continuing to loose access to stable income and denying people with no income the ability to navigate the city is only going to make our ability to find income more difficult, especially for disabled people.
"But Scout..." you might say, to which I would say, "We are not on a first name basis, call me Ms. Forester. Now, what was your question?"
"But Ms. Forester, how is public transit supposed to get money for regular maintenance and necessary expansion? The only solution I can see to this is hiding access to a necessary service behind a paywall."
Well sugarpants, the answer is simple. We already pay for it.
If you are currently paying taxes, some of that money is already going to that public transit infrastructure. Like, it's already in the city's budget. It's paid for. And if they legitimately need more money in their budget, we don't even need to raise taxes! The city just needs to move the budget from another area to public transit. Perhaps some other department that tends to have a bloated budget and little to no use for the public go- oh wow how did this article about city policing budgets get he-
So, if it's already paid for most of the time, why are we paying for it again? Well, it's simple. Most public transit in the US is run by private for-profit companies that are contracted by city and state governments to provide this service. These companies are out to make a profit from running their business, and chargingfor fares and tickets is the best way to do that. This has been the case in the US for pretty much the entirety of the history of public transit and has led to multiple infamous examples of corruption and poor quality service, for some great examples of this, look up the history of electric street car companies in the US and the history of railroad companies in the US.
So, what is the solution here? I think it's pretty obvious.
Seriously, just remove the profit incentive from public transit. It doesn't make the services better in any way, while actively inhibiting access and decreasing the quality of the service. Public transit isn't public until it is owned by the public and accessible to the public. ALL of the public.
This is only one of many issues with the US's public transit system, but it's one I don't see talked about a lot, which is so weird to me, because it seems so obvious. And I think a lot of the reason is that most of the people designing and funding these systems have never used them and have no intention of using them. And even if they did, the money taken from them in fares would be unnoticeable to them.
But, people with much less money than them, or even no money at all, are the people that need these services and depend on them, and we need to impress that upon them going forward. By any means necessary.
Anyway, thank you for coming to my public transit rant on tumblr.edu

The fact that openly LGBTQ people are cheering on fascist paramilitaries in their own country, subscribing to and tying their rights to literal Nazi revisionist ultranationalist histories, and doing so with the support and cheering on of brainless Western gays who have decided to believe whatever bloodthirsty neoliberal imperialist warmongers tell them as long as they wave a rainbow flag around once in a while is evidence that something has gone deeply, fundamentally wrong with Western liberal identity politics-based models of queer liberation, especially when it’s exported to countries and cultures that simply do not have the same political-economic history Western capitalist nations have. Like, it’s hard to overstate how much real, irreparable harm these discourses are doing to us all around the world. We need to stop this shit as soon as possible and completely and irrevocably disentangle ourselves from this dying empire. More importantly, we need to fundamentally alter our conceptions of queer liberation and how our rights should be achieved, because two decades of rainbow capitalism, homonationalism, electoralism, assimilationism, and identity-based “visibility” and “inclusivity” politics are literally putting us in a worse position than we were in before.

[ Elon Musk's dad has fathered a second child with his stepdaughter, who is 41 years his junior, he said in a new interview.
Errol Musk, 76, told The Sun Wednesday that he had a daughter with Jana Bezuidenhout, 35, in 2019. The elder Musk and Bezuidenhout previously welcomed a son, Elliot Rush, who is now 5 years old.
Bezuidenhout's mother, Heide, and Musk were married for 18 years and share two children. Bezuidenhout was 4 years old when Musk became her stepfather.
Errol Musk told The Sun the child "wasn't planned," adding that he and Bezuidenhout lived together for roughly 18 months after the birth of their first child. They no longer live together but "have a lot of affection for each other," he said.
The elder Musk said his daughters were "shocked" by his relationship with Bezuidenhout. The New York Post reported that he had fathered a total of seven children.
"To them it was their sister," he told The Sun. "They still feel a bit creepy about it, because she's their sister. Their half-sister."
"The only thing we are on Earth for is to reproduce," he said. "If I could have another child I would. I can't see any reason not to."
Today, Errol and Elon Musk are estranged. ]
No wonder Elon is such a scumbag, his dad is like this

Okay “tankies”, let’s talk. Again.
CW: For talk of genocide by the USSR.
That hammer and sickle symbol is sickening. It’s not a communist symbol. It’s the symbol of the USSR, which was NOT a Communist system, but rather a totalitarian one.
Lenin created the USSR to gain power. Not to spread the word of Marx, but to gain power, land, and keep it at all costs. He murdered political opponents and no this is not something you just do. Gulags, pograms, he committed genocide. As did Stalin, continuing the horrors of his predecessor. He intentionally starved Ukrainians.
As did Gorbachev. Yes, Gorbachev. Him being “nicer” does not excuse him from the fact he both directly and indirectly killed people. (Hiding a nuclear disaster from the world and your own citizens is how people get cancer.)
All the killing, all the fear of being turned in by loved ones, the inability to practice religion freely, or even just criticize your leaders, that was all the USSR. The claims of spreading Communism were propaganda used to excuse things like land being stolen, invading nations, and keeping tight control over the general populace. It’s not communism. It’s imperialism.
This is what Putin is trying to bring back. And that’s bad.
And just as you cannot “reclaim” the Swastika, nor can you reclaim the Hammer and Sickle. That is the symbol of horrors. Of people being starved, put in concentration camps, and being forced to live in fear. All in the name of communism.
For fuck’s sake, you don’t HAVE to align yourself with a specific economic prinicple, and you certainly don’t have to align yourself with one that has been used to commit genocide.
For example: If someone calls me a communist I can and will throw hands, BUT I believe that UBI should be a thing, wages should match inflation, rent controls are needed, rich need to be pay more, and the state should ensure that people (INCLUDING DISABLED) are not living in poverty. It’s not any specific economic blah blah blah, just things that help people.
See? Easy. No symbols that might give people ptsd needed.
So fucking dump the Hammer and Sickle, learn about the horrible things the USSR did, and open your mind to maybe the answer to our extremely capitalist society isn’t communism, but rather something new. A system that isn’t connected to imperialism at all.
Oh, and donate money to help Ukrainians. (Link is to a website with how to help Ukrainians, and has multiple ways of helping. The people behind it are doing their best to vet all resources but I do still recommend double checking just in case they missed something in the flurry of news today, February 24th)

Look I dunno if Supercorp will be canon but I can say with 100% certainty that Melissa and Katie are playing their characters that way. You cannot convince me otherwise. Melissa and Katie have been playing their characters like Supercorp are dating since Kara got back and that’s the truth. SHE FUCKING LEANED IN OK. Katie’s face when she got off the elevator. Goodbye it’s a wrap. Goodnight.
