also im finally taking a genuine shot at gourmand and decided to explore pipeyard since i hadn't done so yet, its cool but i Wish someone told me that it was supposed to be a one-way exit to shoreline cus i spent a Long time hunting for enough spears to build a fucking ladder up there

Abilities

*Lizard abilities makes lizards of the same species more neutral towards the Surgeon (if she gets too close, they will become aggressive)

Centipede - the ability to "charge" when eating centipedes and electric shocks. As soon as you get bitten, the charge will be spent and kill the enemy Centiwing - flying for a while Red Centipede - explosion proof, high spear defense (2-4 spears)

Big Spider - an opportunity to revive Spitter Spider - slug can swallow stones and this increases the duration of the stun Dropwig - the ability to crawl on the ceiling and walls BLL - other brothers ignore the slug, it becomes possible to eat stunned creatures alive (but vision is b/w) DLL - all long-legs ignore slug, slug can eat all stunned creatures alive. guys this is my new kid Oliver.

now I was playing expedition as hunter when I found them in shoreline like two seconds before rain and I saved them. At first they were EXTREMELY annoying, they kept stealing my spears and got in the road etc. Until I ran into a vulture. This kid knocked its fucking mask off. So they kept it (a bit later I ran into a king vulture and got their mask so we are matching.) Anyway you'd assume that's all that I like about them but you are wrong. THEY SAVED MY FUCKING LIFE they killed a cyan lizard I am not lying it bit me and was about to carry me off and this kid stabbed it STABBED IT I love this kid they love to eat centipedes too so yea. Oliver.

Who was the artificer's husband?

Oh boy, lore time!

People who haven't read my fic (and maybe even those that have) might not know this, but basically Artificer came from a rather large colony where each slugcat was given a role to play. Farmers, craftslugs, cooks, ect. But the soldier class was different. Warriors were raised from birth, and belonged to the colony. Her people were strong and militaristic, using their soldiers to control resources and warring with their neighbors. Artificer was a scout due to her expertise with explosive aerobatics.

However, since the soldiers were considered the prized class, and property of the colony leadership to do with what they wanted, they often kept the genes within the soldier class, in order to keep their stock potent. Soldiers would be ordered to produce offspring with other soldiers, likely someone they barely knew, and then the pups would be raised and trained to replace their fallen parents. It was considered simply another duty of the position, like getting assigned group homework, as bizarre as that sounds.

Artificer is unique in that she didn't want to leave her pups to be raised by the nursery slugcats. She didn't want them to be raised just to die in battle. So she stole them away in the night, running away from the colony with her former fellow soldiers hot on her trail and leaving her life behind.

As you can imagine, her journey ended poorly.

Anyway, here's Mr. Dad, dressed in the fine uniform of a sergeant with his cyan lizard head and robe with a gem set in the eye socket, fancy polearm crafted to look like a popcorn plant, and a rare prized plate of centipede chest armor.

He likely didn't even know she left.

I was wondering, did you ever say anything about vultures and miros birds ? I can't find any post of yours about it

No because they are very weird (and horrifying for the miros birds) creatures. While it's assumed most everything you see in rainworld is a purposed organism descendant, it's never that OBVIOUS. Vultures having their uh... Weird jetpack thing so they can fly. And Miros Birds have metallic legs and I believe a metallic beak?

And like. Since it's been around a hundred of what I believe are years, I doubt those are from the time the Ancients were alive. But they can't be descendants, since they can't just... Be born with jetpacks and metal legs (also i hardly see Miros Birds reproducing, they seem driven by an urge to murder (can you tell i don't like Miros Birds much ?)) So would that mean an iterator created those ?

I always assumed Five Pebbles created the Miros Birds (because they seem to have been made very... rushed ? it feels like birds who got slapped on a metal beak and metal legs forcefully (which is why they're horrifying to me) and because it doesn't feel that ooc for him to create an ANTI LIFE PURPOSED ORGANISM) but apparently he has a line about them being horrible things (which is true but weird to say if you created them specifically to be those horrible things) so maybe I was wrong about that?

But the who is the freak modifying birds to kill me (and everything else that lives) ?! Also why are vultures coming when they see the light of a vulture grub ? HOW DOES ONE FUSE A VULTURE AND A MIROS BIRD IS THERE A CRAZY ITERATOR WHO'S HOBBY IS CREATING ATROCITIES OR ARE THEY REPRODUCING AND BEING BORN WITH METAL PARTS ?!

So many questions... And no answer...

(sorry for starting to ramble in your askbox i'm a world building nerd and i love the rainworld creatures but on my way to find each one's purpose i realized how weird the birdies were and you are my lore/world building reference,,)

There are a bunch of obviously unnatural animals in rain world!

The cyan lizards move around like little jets with teeth and pop like balloons.. aside the robotic noises. The leviathans have an actual hydraulic press as a mouth, centipedes are living capacitors and so on.

Let's discuss vultures and Miros Birds individually!

I am very confident in saying that Pebbles did not make them!

They are made to be scary and very very aggressive, because they are actually guards and server a very important role. Take a look what Pebbles has to say!

The Memory Crypts are a burial ground that is very very sacred so I imagine all Miros creatures were created to protect the place. They are deaf, but have crazy good sight which is perfect for the long linear stretch of the Memory Crypts.

I can only assume Miros vultures aren't much different. Extremely aggressive guards.

As for normal vultures I'd assume perhaps they are there to monitor the surface creature populations. Maybe even carry goods around?

I believe they are also killers, because of the way they were made capable to move on land and squeeze through impressively small places to catch prey. They also have a mask system which tells them not to kill each other!

Not to mention king cultures are basically normal vultures, but even better hunters. It'd be interesting to imagine those things living in flocks perhaps.. with kind being either leaders or a completely separate lone species.

Several Cheap Fragments!!!!

Like Reese, it's purpose wasn't really to solve the great problem but to house, research, and possibly domesticate the organisms they were assigned. Reese has lizards while Fragments has vultures.

The main idea for their clothing was "since they can go outside their can, they need to be dressed for exploration" so shorter clothing would be more appropriate. And since they have a changeable back panel, the back needs to be open enough to make it easy. I just decided to make the undershirt thing sleeveless with an open back as shown below.

With the above you can also see how their wires work. The back panel only covers up their inner mechanics with a port for their wires. It's mainly used as a placeholder if no packs are being used to avoid breaking their puppet out of stupidity.

If one were to be connected, it'd snap on. The wires would plug into the input on the pack and they'd be able to use the pack as programmed unless it sustained damaged. I only have one kind of attachment at the moment but if I were to make more they would go by the same system. Here is a doodle of it that hopefully makes sense if the text didn't.

Oh yeah also you know how I said the back is covered up so they wouldn't break their puppet out of stupidity? Yeah well they did once and it lowkey messed up their eyesight. Don't ask how, it just did. This now makes them cautious of things behind them, since one small mess up impacted their life greatly.

oh yeah and one final thing their eyes just look like that because I thought it looked cool.

I think that's all for the calculator, time for the pups :)

Link & Lonk

Link and Lonk are a couple of pups that look like lantern mice with similar abilities to those little fellas. honestly I just thought "what if scug look like funky mice :D" and decided to force Fragments to bare the burden of parenthood.

They were separated from their parents and found fragments. It decided to feed the small pups and now they latch onto it like a cyan lizard who'd been given a small centipede.

They are surprisingly helpful when outside it's can. They can hold extra spears and pearls around if needed. Link tends to hold onto pearls while Lonk takes the spears. Probably because Link would rather swim in an ocean full of leviathans than need to hit something twice their size with a spear.

They also know a little bit of sign language. Only simple gestures like hi, yes, no, danger, food, and others along that line. They really like to use the food gesture literally any moment they can because they could eat literally anything anytime. It got so bad that fragments now limits their food per cycle. They don't like the limit but it is what it is ig.

I really hope my organization of whatever this is is alright. It's almost 1 am and I should really be going to bed soon. If I come up with anything else I'll put it under their tag but for now this is all I got. gnight 👍👍
