Every time I look at how to create a world for a campaign or just plan a campaign on the internet you usually get : start small with the town and maybe the few places around, you don't need to know everything about the world to start the campaign.
However what if your players want to create characters that come from beyond that place. You'll need to tell them what the world is like, what others kingdoms and lands there are and what is happening in there for them to be able to put their character in there and know what is going on so they have some guidelines about the world's alliances etc ?
How do you do ? (Also if I'm looking at it wrong please tell me I am but an aspiring DM)

Item no. 49 from @basalt-dnd list of Another 100 Magic Items (which I FINALLY found the original post after saving the images ages ago, but not the author 😅). I changed the item description ever so slightly to fit what I had in mind
(Also lmk if I need to add more cw/tw tags!!)

[D&D post] Oh yeah also I forgot to mention
So we’re in a labyrinth, right? Tall, 20ft obsidian walls, it’s a pretty big square maze, close to 200x200ft, slightly ominous, with massive 10’x20’ doors sporadically placed throughout…
One of the players decided that his character loves mahogany. Like, LOVES mahogany.
So the players come across a doorway and the first thing the player does is ask “What is the door made of?”
By now, the PC has already witnessed 3 mahogany doors destroyed by his fellow men (and women) so he immediately kneels down and starts praying. Just absolutely starts praying.
As he prays, one of the players casts Thunderwave at the door. By a MIRACLE, the door is unharmed.
Another player decides that his character—who hates MahoganyLover—will piss on the door. The door is unharmed, as though it was coated with a thin hydrophobic membrane. Mahogany Lover PC continues to pray.
A THIRD player joins in on the fun, and she decides to say “screw this” and uses scorching ray on the beautiful mahogany door.
I had Mahogany Loverboy roll a d100 to see if his God, Thanatos, would interfere.
*moment of truth*
The door burns down. However…
The barbarian’s ammonia-filled urine, combined with the electric charged air from the thunder wave and the scorching ray of the cleric somehow create a less-than-lethal form of mustard gas that deals damage to all 3 of the players who attacked the mahogany door; all others were unharmed by the gas.
I guess Thanatos did, in fact, heed the prayers of Mahogany Loverboy…

Question???
Crazy idea, no clue if this is even gonna find any traffic, maybe I'm talking to the void.
I think I figured out what I wanna do with my blog??? My friends and I started a D&D campaign in January. I'm a new DM and things are going really well. I brought up possibly posting our session reports online somewhere to see if we get an audience or something from it, y'know? We've talked about making content for awhile, just haven't been able to and maybe this is our avenue to get started.
Idk what I'm trying to say. I guess I just wanna see if these tags work and if people would even be interested in reading our session reports and getting involved in our story??? Should I make a separate account for that??? I'm still new to how Tumblr works and I do read fics, I know that reblogging those and interacting are a big thing but I don't wanna cause clutter in the profile???
This is a mindless rant at this point, I have no idea if anyone is even following what I'm trying to say.

It's the way it took me so long to post this from my drafts wtf-

Blindspot Season 2 Episode 19 spoilers
Weller and Jane are posing as hackers for the case of this episode, and they just had to solve the most d&d puzzle ever.
A plaque next to a door had "the simplest answer will get you through this door" and then below it a whole lot of nonsense posing as a math word problem.
Jane was focused on the word problem/puzzle portion, lamenting they didn't have Patterson to help them (because she's a genius and amazing) and Weller, in all his simple minded, fighter or barbarian (like the d&d classes) style thinking just........ Takes a hold of the handle on the door and opens it.
Jane basically face palmed and was like "oh. Right. The simplest answer will get you through the door. Just. Open the door."
I feel like basically every dm has a story where they put a door or chest in front of their players that could just be swung open, but their players have spent an unnecessary amount of time trying to test/or find a puzzle/trap in a situation where there wasn't one. 😂
[note to self: think more on the team's d&d class assignments. I feel like Weller is a battlemaster fighter tbh, I feel like Jane could be a monk..... Patterson could be a artificer?
Anyone else have thoughts on this?]

Being the dm for d&d is so fun but I also want a chance to play as my character and right now it’s literally just me and my friend playing and I’m being the dm and my character and it’s lowkey hard bc I’m trying to balance telling the story and being my character and since we’re both new to this she doesn’t really know how to do the talking as her character thing and neither do I (although I am slightly more comfortable with it) and also rolling for the other characters and my character at the same time is so hard ahhhhhh
In conclusion my throat hurts from doing like four separate voices that are all but one deep and scratchy and I really need some water lmao

Oooohhhh my god. Oh my fucking god.
Tonight's session. Session 6. We ended the session as the characters took a long rest and I said 'hey guys I made a proper table of weather events if someone wants to roll to know what weather you'll wake up to when we start next week's session'
Said table:
Tumblr media
You know what was rolled?
A 100. Straight off the fucking bat.
Now what is Strange Phenomena? Well I'm glad you asked, because I'm using this particular page from GM Binder
And. Well.
Tumblr media
Our player then rolled a 6.
The LOOKS on everybody's faces when I then explained 'I can't tell you what to expect for next session because I need to make preparations first' was hilarious
Shock. Horror. FEAR. They now expect a TPK as a Tarrasque or something falls on their head
This is going to be fucking hilarious

I put a list of some of my current favorite stuff under the cut (and in the tags)- but like I said it'll change as we go!
Final Fantasy XIV Online
Sims 4 (particularly mods/cc)
Stardew Valley
Dungeons and Dragons
Original characters and stories, mainly for ffxiv and d&d
Art (I might post some of my art, we'll see)

hi folks!! i’m currently planning a d&d campaign based on the magnus archives. essentially, this campaign takes place Somewhere Else, in a universe with magic and d&d races and classes where martin and jon decided to push the fears into another world and therefore causing a similar apocalypse to s5. the players have to go through each fear domain and destroy the main avatar for that fear, battling smaller monsters and the domain itself along the way.
HOWEVER. i have begun to think about each domain, the monsters, and the avatars, and how that translates into a d&d world (stats, magic, etc) and for some of the domains i’m struggling to come up with ideas. this is also my first campaign as a DM, and my second overall, so i’m still learning the ropes! i would love any tips and tricks y’all have for DMing as a beginner, as well as any fun and creative ideas for domains, monsters, NPCs, etc. thank u in advance!!
(oh also this is going to be a hybrid/online game so if you have any specific tips for that that would be much appreciated! we’re not using roll20 but for location/convenience purposes we will likely all be online)
