Vuani Ashenmane, my Dwarf Hexblade Warlock from my group's Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign we played last year. I've been having so much fun - and learning so much - doing these 3d statutes. More renders under the cut!
Description: You have the ability to use Divine Intervention and all the other “Ask to your God” spells any times you want with an instant recharge only if you use it for something silly (DM’s decision) and if your God is Chaotic-Neutral/Good aligned.
Functionality: You use the spell to ask something silly to your God (another of the same meal you just had, to win a low/no reward slug race, have a nice silly hat, find a good pun on the spot, etc etc) and the God does it, then you feel a pat on your head and hear an astral voice say “Yes, sure darling, no need to use your precious spells for this” you feel warm and then everything turns back to normal, with your wish granted.
This can also work for warlocks only if your patron is Chaotic-Neutral/Good aligned.
In general, this can take effects if your deity is a momma type, even if it’s Lawful/Good but if it is Lawful/Good sometimes it will say things like “But next time use it for good alright sweetie?” making you feel slightly guilty, the more you use it for sillies without using it for something good.
Inspiration: the BG3 playthrough of @dare-to-dm (silly paladins are my favourite, use this so you can have fun in D&D sweetie ❤️)
(I may or may not have been partially inspired by various D&D classes in making this...)
Exhaustion. Using magic is incredibly tiring. Even as their body is still flooded with adrenaline from fighting for their life, Whumpee is exhausted and collapses at the first chance they get. If they're traveling with others, do they try to wake Whumpee up, or let them sleep? Maybe a party member wraps a blanket around them, praying they wake up soon. Or maybe they wake up on the ground hours later, forgotten.
Loss of memory, personality, or even their own sanity. As Whumpee uses more and more of their power, they begin to lose themself. They forget their closest friends, breaking Caretaker's heart when they learn that Whumpee doesn't remember them. Eventually they can't even remember their own name, or why they turned to magic in the first place. They no longer know who or what they're fighting for. And this makes them miserable, knowing that they chose to give themselves up to magic, but not knowing the reason why.
Injury (TW for brief mentions of blood, bruises, and broken bones). Magic takes a toll on the body, and Whumpee has to consider how much they're willing to give. They feel sick, like their organs are melting into slush. Maybe bruises appear across their skin, or blood leaks from their eyes, their mouth, their fingertips, staining their arcane focus red. With stronger magic, Whumpee feels their bones begin to crack. The rest of the party begs them to stop doing this to themself, as Caretaker gently bandages their latest wounds. Or maybe their party doesn't care, using Whumpee as a weapon that can simply be tossed aside when it breaks.
Evil warlock pact. This can work with any of the above, but basically, there is some other entity granting Whumpee their power at a cost. Maybe what it gives in magic, it takes in life force. It could be a malevolent deity that has its own motives for granting Whumpee power, and maybe it's not being completely honest as to what those motives are.
Reputation/social standing. For whatever reason, magic is extremely taboo. Nobody understands why Whumpee uses it, assuming that they're dangerous, monstrous, and greedy for power. Maybe Whumpee didn't even choose to be magical, they just naturally are. Yet, they hate themselves for it, wanting nothing more but to wash the magic from their veins. There's no safe place for them. They're always on the run, pushing away those who care about them for fear of being found out.
My Earth Genasi makes a return for princes of apocalypse game! I got invited at lvl 8 tho, i've been reading that the 3rd part of the adventure feels disconnected from first two, and i suppose what's why the group decided to start over with new characters
I renamed her to Mika btw! There's her new artwork for the token, AND a quick design for her noble dao patron, Vishanti. Pls don't ask me how she goes thru doors, she can cast Wish and True polymorph, i promise it's not an issue lmao. She's secretly sort of a mom to Mika, indirectly. She had fallen in love with a mortal half elf woman once and had a passionate romance with her for like 10 years, but little by little her lover got fed up with Vishante's bullshit (as a neutral evil and extremely powerful inhuman being she mostly sees those below her, like normal people, as a source of entertainment and resources at best. She doesn't go out of her way to do evil, but she's, undeniably, an asshole) and dumped her. Vishante didn't take it well and is extremely salty about it to this day. Her ex remarried later and had kids with someone else, but, due to her spending so much time on elemental planes and with a genie, all children she had were born as Earth Genasi. i imagine that was quite the talk with her husband. Vishante was spitefully happy about it tho
I can only imagine how ironic it is for unimaginably powerful being to fall in love with a mortal so much and then get dumped by her years later cause you're somehow not good enough. She still doesn't get why that happened. This story is very melodramatic and is full of toxic yuri, i'm. I'm obsessed with them. Mika doesn't know shit about any of it tho
and a silly doodle of Mika that came to me in a vision
It's been a little while, but I'm back with something new! I love the Warlock class, and I wanted to come up with some new options to add to its pool. I ended up with this document, The Eldritch Tome. Within, you'll find 3 new Pact Boons, 24 new Invocations, and 17 new Spells, most of which are themed around the various star-like Elder Evils (Hadar shouldn't get to have all of the fun) or the layers of the Nine Hells!
First drawing of the year! Continuing to work my way through the party’s new characters in all our low level glory. This is Amelie, our Hexblooded warlock!
