Is daemonism safe?
Daemonism, when broken down to the bare minimum, is a mental and imaginative exercise. It's not meant to push yourself into anything potentially unhealthy. You are not forcing hallucinations and there shouldn't be any dissociation of identity or losing control of yourself.
Let's Start With Projection
Projection is applying mental images overlaid on your surroundings. It is using your imagination and relying on your ability to visualize outward what is being produced by your mind's eye. With practice, you can make your projections quite vivid, and after a while you may not even register that you are still seeing right through them. The apple exercise is a good example. Lets say you picture an apple on a plate in front of you, but the apple is fleeting and inconsistent. Its shape, colors, and size flickers rapidly or fizzles out entirely. You *know* it's not there. There's little presence or weight to it. If this was glass, it would be described as crystal clear. But, with practice, it becomes more consistent. You can now see one shade of red and the size remains the same. Perhaps you have even added details like a shadow. Now, if this was to be compared to glass it would be glass with a light tint added. You can still see right through it, but you also know something is there. You don't have to be a daemian to be able to project. Concept designers, artists, architects, althetes... projection is a type of visualization. It's a creative tool. It's not a hallucination, nor is it intended to be one.
Extreme vividness can be from hyperphantasia, but if you worry projecting may trigger or influence hallucinations then you are welcome to avoid it! Projection is fun, but not a requirement, and you should do what is most comfortable, healthy, and safest for you. Daemians who experience projection as hallucinations already have a history of them from what I have seen within the community.
Fronting and Dissociation
These are experiences usually seen within DID and other plural spaces. Daemonism doesn't focus on switching with your daemon, and you likely won't find resources specifically about it. Of course, you can switch who's in front, and some plural daemians may have advice for how to accomplish that, but again, that's not the point or focus of daemonism at large. They are usually hands off within our lives. We are the ones in the driver's seat while they are the backseat drivers giving us direction. They aren't expected to take the wheel from us. There isn't anything wrong with wanting to or being able to switch with your daemon, just to be clear. I'm only pointing out that getting daemons to front is not a priority like it is in other plural spaces. This is another reason daemonism is very easy to get into and something I consider much safer and easier to manage for the average Joe.
Dissociation isn't something that is associated with the daemon experience either. Dissociation *can* occur, but there are likely other reasons you would be experiencing these things and not just because you have a daemon. Dissociation from ADHD, stress, illness, or DID are just a few examples. Switching with your daemon could just be masking, or perhaps your mind is already comfortable sliding your daemon into front because you have DID. Again, if you are worried having a daemon could trigger dissociation or a loss of control then please do what is in the best interest for you. You know your health and history best. But, there a *many* daemians who are systems and quite happy and comfortable having daemons. Daemons have even been known to help with dissociation and sense of identity!
Talking to Yourself
Is 100% a normal, human experience. There's been a surge of exploration in self-talk and how it affects us, and talking to yourself in 2nd person even has proven benefits. You also don't *have* to talk out loud to your daemon; you can keep it all internal. Just know that splitting your own mental monologue into a dialogue isn't unhealthy and it's something many of you already do even without a daemon.
TLDR
You do only what you are comfortable with here. If something sounds risky, then don't do it. Daemonism is meant to be a healthy and fun activity.
You want to form find but not separate your daemon from yourself? Awesome.
You want to only talk to your daemon and avoid projection? Neato.
You want to project but not talk to your daemon? Perfect.
You want to learn how to switch with your daemon? We ain't really the community for that but you are free to if you are comfortable!
You do what's best for you. It's meant to fill whatever you need. Healthy mindset, growth, or just straight-up something fun to do.
Topic spawned from a question on Discord over the difference of imposition and projection as well as some differences between us and other techniques out there for headmate creation. Cleaned up and formatted better for Tumblr.

I don’t know much about plural/system stuff, but since there’s a lot of overlap with dæmonism, I’m curious to see how many folks in the community are plurals and systems. Please be respectful to eachother in the notes! This poll is intended in good faith for community demographics, and not to cause any arguments.

Thinking that part of the reason why "love yourself, you are beautiful, adore yourself" falls completely flat on me is because I can't do anything with abstract instructions and it simply means nothing to me. But very funny is that I'm accidentally getting there anyway by entirely unconventional means (mind animal)
Love yourself: okay. How? What does that mean? How can I love something I have no particular feelings for? It just is. How do I have feelings on purpose? How do I make myself care? Am I supposed to pretend to have feelings I don't until it's real? I end up not doing this because it doesn't feel like an actual thing I can do
Dæmonism, apparently: okay, so imagine the other half of your mind voice, the one you bounce your inner dialogue off, as a person. Name them, find out what they're like, and now their opinions hold more weight. What do they want you to do? Would that benefit you? Is it possible that this part of you knows how to take care of you? Imagine them as a companion of your own, that is always with you wherever you go. Isn't it nice to be in your own company sometimes? You can represent them visually through an animal. There are many ways to determine what animal would fit. You see qualities of yourself in this animal, don't you think this is a creature worth of admiration, respect and love? Then why wouldn't you be? Build a relationship with this part of you, make a way of living with them, grant them kindness and feel love for them. But remember! They are you and you are them! OOPS you've been tricked into caring for yourself and holding yourself to a higher esteem!

An Exercise with my Dæmon
My Aza's been feeling less focused and less active and more sleepy lately. Our brain's been really busy and there's been less room for her to play a more active role. Out of curiosity, we decided to look at tulpamancy exercises and found a revitalization exercise. So why not try it, right?
I'll be honest, we weren't able to follow it and ended up doing it differently. But the exercise we did do was pretty sweet, so I figure I can share how that went for us and what we did.
So for the exercise we picked up, the first step was visualize your tulpa (daemon in our case) and "force" every aspect of their personality onto the visualization of them.
Wasn't sure what that meant exactly, so we started by projecting Aza as a dormouse in the palm of my hands, cupped in front of me. To help my focus, I found it easier to talk to her out loud. We went over some of her likes and dislikes, her voice, her appearance, her favourite forms, her opinions, things we like to do together, her favourite spots to be, moments we've shared, etc. She would chime in with comments, which technically was not allowed, but... oh well. I said everything I could think of about her as the thoughts came to mind, not worrying if I ended up repeating something in the process.
We ended on the knowledge that we both love each other. You love me, I love you, it was very sweet. It brought back some memories and put some focus on Aza and helped her ground her into herself. Like putting a little spotlight on her.
As mentioned earlier, according to the original exercise, for this step we shouldn't have allowed feedback from Aza since focusing on her feelings would have been step two. In the end it felt more like an bonding exercise by allowing her to comment and add things and react naturally. So we're glad we did it our way. Something about the rules being more like guidelines, right?
Here is the link to the original exercise if you're interested: https://tulpanomicon.guide/three-task-tulpa-revitalization.html
And if you give this exercise a go, either the original or what we did (or some variation of your own), feel free to let us know how it went.

At this point I don't care if Stannah is 'real' or not. I don't care if I'm calling him my Daemon but he's actually something else. His presence is a comfort to me and he's real for that.

Hey daemians of Tumblr!!!
There was an idea of creating a directory, or hub, to connect the different websites and communities that exist about daemons. The goal is to have an easy reference to the many different communities and beliefs that exist for daemons. So new, and some old, daemians can branch out and connect with other daemians and find information in a far more convenient way.
There is a user submission form so you too can add your daemon related content, websites, servers, and even blogs.
I hope the community enjoys this new idea and hopefully some of you take interest in participating.

Daemonism has as many variations as there are people that practice it because of how deeply personal it is. It’s your brain, your inner voice. And no one can tell you your experience within your own mind is incorrect because you’re the only one who can possibly know that.
We have general guides and frameworks and exercises, but no two people can possibly have the exact same experience because our brains are all wired differently.
I don’t really look into or really hear much about any discourse in the community, but please know that I support everyone in doing daemonism their own way even if it’s different from everyone else. You know yourself best and I love to hear about everyone’s different practices and experiences. So I hope no one feels too self conscious about not doing everything the exact same as everyone else.
Some daemians are plural or nonhuman and see daemonism as inherently tied to their identities. While others like myself are neither and don’t view it as that. Our experiences and how we view ourselves when it comes to identity are different and that’s great!
Some people are able to project their daemons in their vision. Some people aren’t! And there’s nothing wrong with you for not being able to. Some people’s minds just don’t work that way.
Some people have multiple daemons for different facets of their identity, or were created to serve different purposes. While others just have one daemon as their other half. Everyone just has different needs.
There’s even so many different methods of form finding and discussion around it to reflect all our differences. And you can even choose not to have a settled form at all!
Everyone brings their own unique perspectives to the table and it enriches everyone in the community to hear about all the many different ways you can go about it. So if something doesn’t work for you, there are many other methods and possibilities to try instead.

I love how when I was researching dæmonism I was deciding between two forms- a Russian blue and a cheetah- and then Marion comes along being neither of those, entering with his own name and personality lol.

daemonism culture
hello & welcome to daemonism-culture-is! since we haven't seen any (blank)-culture-is blogs focusing on daemonism, we figured it might be fun to make our own (and possibly encourage some more activity in the daemonism tag)!
feel free to submit anything you'd like - "dae culture is __" may be the main focus of this blog, but you can send in anything as long as it relates to daemonism in some way, for example you can submit questions about daemonism, your experiences, a funny conversation between you and your dae, etc.! (when submitting culture you can be more specific if you'd like, for example "daemon culture is ...", "plural daemian culture is ...", "multidae culture is ...", etc.)
please keep in mind before interacting, we are accepting of all good-faith identities & all types and origins of plurality. this blog is mostly for fun, so we will try to avoid discourse.
run by @coyotepawsteps ; daemian is cypress (they/them), daemon is sylthistle/bluebird (xe/xir)
