I’m a little over halfway into Farscape season 1. I’m convinced now that this show was created because the creators thought the sci-fi genre wasn’t sexy/lewd enough.

I mean…one character had an orgasm from exposure to sunlight. John and D’Argo had wet dreams induced through alien mind control. The very necessary scene where Aeryn confirmed she was wearing John’s underwear by reading the Calvin Klein tag. John and Aeryn nearly having sex because they thought they were gonna die.

It’s gotten to the point where every scene is now coming off as, “this feels a bit sexual”. For example, there was a scene where John was feeding Chiana through the cell doors. It was just eating food, but the way Chiana was eating it felt suggestive.

Chiana

✨ She’s always been a really out there woman, so her S/O isn't the first artist she’s been with. However, they are the first artist she’s really started to fall for.

✨ She loves how their work reflects their feelings more than the real world around them. It’s abstraction and colour attracting her more then the objects depicted in it.

✨ Finding how calm her S/O is and how art centers them tends to calm Chiana down from her more anxious or high strung moods.

✨ She could watch them for hours and has done so when they're working on a larger project.

✨ The sound of them working on their next piece has sometimes lulled her to sleep.

John Crichton

✨ The first joke John ever made about his S/O being an artist was a silly flirting attempt. “You gonna paint me like one of your French girls.” So stupid but also very appropriate for the astronaut who often liked to run his mouth.

✨ He's never really been able to understand how artists do their thing. Always being way too impatient to figure out colour theory when there was a whole universe to explore.

✨ However, this doesn't mean he doesn't respect his S/O.

✨ John will joke about their art making playful remarks about how he's lucky to be dating the next Picasso etc.

✨ He'll never bother his S/O when they're in the zone though. When they're really focused he'll stay away in order to give them space to work and not crowd them.

✨ Generally having trouble shutting up can make things difficult when they're focused. John knows and respects that so he'll let them do their thing until they're in the mood to spend time together

Ka D’Argo

✨ D’Argo is a warrior and as such didn’t really focus much on the more sensitive nuanced nature of art until later

✨He’d come to enjoy it when he’d finally found the love of his life in his wife Lo’lah. But that to had been ripped from him by her senseless murder

✨ Art became a waste of time to him after that. Once he was imprisoned it all seemed pointless. Only violence and revenge felt like appropriate outlets for D'Argo's feelings

✨ After ending up on Moya stranded with the rest of the crew including you, he was angry. However, your calming and artistic nature really got to him

✨ His S/O's passion for art and drive to create reminded him of how much he used to love being still and enjoying taking in an artistic work

✨ Through his S/O's creativity, D'Argo starts to get more in touch with his gentler aspect of his spirit

✨ This is part of what makes him start to really fall in love with them

✨ His S/O's flair for capturing the deeper facets of things through art makes him look at life differently. Like there might be more out there then violence and revenge

Joolushko Tunai Fenta Hovalis

✨ Jool is someone who vastly appreciates art, even though her interests rest more in science, archeology and medicine.

✨ She's never been very good at creating art, but loves talking about it with her S/O.

✨ Learning about their S/O's species artistic history and sharing the knowledge she's acquired from traveling the stars to them, is one of the things which makes her feel close to them.

✨ Jool has a healthy appreciation for historical art and if her s/o has knowledge of art history either in their own culture or others, she will find that fascinating.

Pilot

✨ Pilot doesn't get out much, so seeing the world through your art is always a privilege.

✨ He'll be eager to see you paint your adventures with the rest of the crew.

✨ Being a very technical and organized person, Pilot loves art which reflects life and especially enjoys your paintings and art of anything to do with Moya.

✨ Seeing any depiction of Moya through your eyes is a treasure.

Scorpius (Also not necessarily crew. He was on the ship for most of the final season so I’m counting him)

✨ Scorpius is someone who likes a certain level of class and sophistication to his life. Depending on whether you are a more chaotic or calm artist will determine his feelings to your craft as a whole.

✨ If you're more chaotic he won't really know what to do with you. Your art is a reflection of that. You may clash on several aspects of your craft, but there is potential for you to change his stubborn mind with your open caution-to-the-wind nature.

✨ If you're more of the calm and organized type, then he's more likely to not clash with you. Scorpius is someone who desires stability and for everything to work out in his favour.

✨ He's also a fan of simplistic abstract art that is reminiscent of pieces made under peacekeeper occupation. Solid colours and simple structure.

Sikozu Shanu

✨ Sikozu doesn't really get the point of art. She's someone who likes to move fast and not linger on details.

✨ Sitting for a long period to do something that doesn't contribute to furthering her goals of either studying Leviathans or supporting the Kalish resistance.

✨ However, even though she may not see any personal benefit, Sikozu does have a certain amount of respect for your commitment to whatever artistic craft you are involved in.

✨ She may not be overtly positive or show outward interest in what your doing, but Sikozu will bring you something to eat/drink when she sees your in deep concentration.

✨ Sikozu is also not above occasionally peeking at what you're doing out of sheer curiosity.

Stark

✨ Stark hasn't had much time for art, as his life has left little room. He's been imprisoned or enslaved with little to enrichment until his escape.

✨This being said, Stark has a great appreciation for art. He loves it's spiritual and creative freedoms, which are things he for so long didn't possess.

✨ Being with an artistic s/o would be perfect for him. It would encourage him to be more open, as art inherently is connected to freedom for him.

✨ He might even join his s/o on a creative project or quietly working on seperate projects in the same room.

Aeryn Sun

✨ Aeryn, much like Sikozu, doesn't really see a huge point to creating art. Growing up in an environment that discouraged individualism and creativity.

✨ However, unlike Sikozu, Aeryn is much more open to learning to appreciate an artistic s/o.

✨ Aeryn is pretty guarded, but has a deep desire to learn from her encounters outside of her previous life as a peacekeeper.

✨ An s/o who can open her mind to how art can be both a fun and helpful outlet for pent up emotions or trauma would be super healthy for her.

✨ Aeryn also enjoys most an s/o who works with sculptures or pottery. It's something she could see herself doing if she were to choose one form of art to take up

Zotoh Zhaan

✨Zhaan loves art. By extension she would love having an s/o who is an artist.

✨ Zhaan loves immersing herself in the spiritual side of art even more so than Stark.

✨ If you get close enough Zhaan may even show you how she does paintings which depict the innermost spirits of those around her.

✨ She's also inclined to do a spirit painting of you while you work on one of your pieces.

✨ She'll see you not only as a muse, but as a kindred spirit with both of your art styles eventually harmonizing together.

that's such a wide question. uh in the show? I think they're a cute couple. I think the writers made a shitty choice w the jothee plotline. I think they shouldve been allowed to eachother out in peace .

welcome to the farscape resource site!

This account is inspired by the @hdbuffy tumblr, which has been invaluable in making Buffy the Vampire Slayer accessible to new viewers, and allowing fans both old and new to easily make high quality content for the show. Kudos and full credit to them. It’s also slightly inspired by the Buffy archive on archive.org. I’m hoping that by making a similar resource for Farscape I can help more people find and enjoy this incredible gem of a science fiction show.

Here you’ll be able to find every episode of Farscape, including The Peacekeeper Wars, in 1080p quality. Except for The Peacekeeper Wars, all episode files are around 3GB. I’ve also uploaded English subtitles and all of the DVD extras I could find, including the Farscape: Undressed special that aired between seasons two and three. Most of the extras are in 540p, with a few in 480p.

For those who haven’t seen it: Farscape was an Australian-American science-fiction show that aired from 1999 to 2003, and was produced by the Jim Henson Company. By turns hysterically funny, emotionally devastating, brutally dark, profoundly romantic, and unabashedly bizarre, Farscape pushed the limits of what science-fiction television could be. Although the early parts of season one might seem to have things in common with the episodic storytelling of shows like Star Trek and Doctor Who, Farscape soon became an intensely serialized, character-driven epic about love, trauma, and galactic war. Featuring a protagonist that deconstructed the imperialist, American masculinity of typical scifi heroes, a romance so exhilarating and well-executed it’s impossible to describe, and a refusal to let its characters ever forget the things that happened to them, Farscape is one of the most brilliantly creative and subversive works of genre ever made. Beneath the colorful animatronic creations of the Jim Henson Creature Shop, the show is ultimately a philosophical exploration of identity and home. What does it mean to be an alien, and to be changed by the things that happen to you?

That, and it’s fun and sexy too.

ok I HATE Chiana x D'argo it makes my skin crawl so hard its so so so bad I dont know what were they thinking about ?????? its so bad the show insist on coding her as a little girl everyone calls her a child and they pair her with the one character thats coded as a father ?????????? the man that misses his child ???????!?!?!?! and why is she so sexualized all the time its so gross like not even in a morally gross kind of way it just gross to look at them constantly having sex

chiana/d'argo - hmmm, probably more brotp than otp. The whole thing with Jothee was super weird and gross and kind of ruined it for me. I did like them together in PKW, and how it ended was sad, but eh.

abed/troy - OTP and BROTP. I don’t care if they’re romantic or platonic or soulmates or what, but they should be together, period. 🎶 Troy and Abed friends for-evvvv-er!🎶

Hit pause, like Chiana. Facts: The last time we were on Earth, we learned about wormholes; we jumped down them together. John and Aeryn made love as though it were the first time. Chiana has always been attracted to John Crichton, but their love is too intimate, and ordered, for sex. She provides in part the chance for John the chance to be the teacher, after so long spent in amazement and confusion on Moya. It would be not only incest but gross misconduct, for him to follow her lead, up there. In 2003. The last time she tried to climb aboard, it was in the Neural Cluster, being ridden by the creature that would bless her with the sight. And she's lost something. Something precious, central to her nature, and she's never had the chance to get it back, ever since she found her way back to Moya again. She's held herself apart from even D'Argo, after giving him so much pain and grief before now. Retreating every time she was asked to give in, grow up, be an adult.

These are facts. Chiana's time off Moya has made her something very specific, which is an innocent who has been interfered with. She needs to travel back in time -- back to the beginning, back to the root of the thing that was broken -- if she's ever going to be whole again. Her power has always resided in her innocence and her sexuality, and when she came back to Moya, she was powerless. She was blind when it happened, meaning that the one power she does have -- the ability to take the moment apart and look at her place in it, to slow time around her, to employ the split-second pattern recognition of the intuitive -- is useless and terrifying. It asks her to go back to the time she was hurt, at the same time it asks her to put into thought what she's used to ignoring in intuition. It puts her alongside John, who was violated on the Interion planet too, but in a way they can't ever look at, or talk about, or touch. Maybe if she could have found Jothee again, a younger version of D'Argo (half Luxan; half Sebacean, like John for all intents and purposes), she could have found her way back to D'Argo again. Back to herself. But that involves usurping the agency of another person, and it's something she's already screwed up once.

Take a teacher, a brother, the softest man you've ever met. The man who sees your heart, and whose heart you see. The one person you can never sleep with, because it would break all the fibers you've got left -- but the one person who could prove to you, remind you, that it doesn't hurt. And with a little judicious time travel, you might find yourself in a position where everybody wins. It will hurt to make the choice, it will be scary as shit, as shee-yaw, but it's the choice the universe is handing you. You wouldn't be able to make a sound, because he wouldn't understand your voice. But it's not your speech he needs to understand, because it's always been the child inside him that loved you. And once those children were hurt, and broken, and invaded? Take it backwards. This could only happen in a science fiction show, and there are those of us who could be jealous of that. But it happens, and there's grace in it. Take this man, this young version of the man you love most purely, and see him for what it is: the chance at grace they took from you. You could fall in love with that so easily. And he'll become a man, and you'll finally get to be a woman. Whole.

Play. "What's the matter?" Johnny asks her. And she makes a deal with herself, shaking, nodding her head. She knows she can do this. She knows she has to. "It happens all the time," the radio assures us, "because love is blind." She touches his arm. "Drive." She mimes turning the steering wheel, becomes more insistent: "Drive." Just because it happens every day, to every person, doesn't make the jump any less momentous, or any less terrifying. Other people's bodies are the scariest thing in the world until you've done it before. "It happens all the time," says the radio, "it's not a crime. Because love is blind." Johnny starts the truck, and Karen Shaw gives a joyous shout as they take off down the street.

#i have many feelings about pip and johnny and this encapsulates many of them #there's always this weird tension with the way they're written #where it's so easy to make a joke of them #and many people do #like 'lmao they act weird and sexual'#'lol she took his virginity'#and sometimes it seems like writing agrees with that tone #because of fuckin aussie humor or whatever #and then i remember the careful melancholy tones of so many of those moments too #the way that crichton gives her permission #and there's an understanding #the delicate dance of the family ties moment #'not before the big game...hmm?'#he's so careful to meet her where she is #when it comes to communicating with sexuality #not make her feel unwanted #an alien language but one he has the grace to not need the microbes to translate #he does it with all the other characters too #speaking in aggression to d'argo and holiness to zhaan and crazy to stark while always always still being himself #always a trace of irony to it #they move me because they have the sort of love that is at once completely natural and constantly in need of negotiation #and those are hard loves #but real ones #anyway this section from this recap always meant a lot to me

Any way you look at it, the Chiana x Jothee relationship is MESSED UP

But

Age wise, how does it work?

I always thought Luxans lived for a short time because D'argo was only 28 (30 by the end of S2) with an adult son.

However, John mentions multiple times that humans don't live as long as Luxans, Sebastions etc etc

So, if D'argo was 28 in s1, had been in prison for 8 years (cycles), and had a son who was old enough to remember him before going to prison, then do Luxans just mature super fast then slow down?

How old is Jothee? He looked pretty big in the hologram, at least 2 maybe 4. So at oldest D'argo fathered a son with an adult Sebation woman at 19 at, youngest 16?

Which makes Jothee at most, what, 14? Maybe as young as 12?

If he's 16, then D'argo was 14 when he fathered him.

And Chiana is what? At least in her 20's? She's supposedly somewhere between D'argo and Jothee but I feel like, considering the information we have about Luxan aging and that Chiana escaped Nebari Prime 20 cycles ago, I feel like she's older than D'argo in terms of cycles

Comparative maturity wise though, I think she does sit between Jothee and D'argo.

Which means I 100% blame her for the affair with Jothee. Jothee is obviously also to blame but like, she's an adult who chose to be in a relationship and then also chose not to break off that relationship.

D'argo should forgive his son, who is young and has been a slave most of his life. I feel the parent- child relationship is far more important and valuable.

But he shouldn't forgive Chiana in my opinion. What she did was unforgivable and cruel.
