I made a claim that there is a trend that won't allow female leads of superhero movies and tv shows to have and end up with a male love interest. So I decided to back that up with some stats. I looked at 60 different lead characters of live-action superhero tv shows and movies from Marvel and DC, sorted them into different categories by gender and type of ending (see the details below the cut).

My findings:

While 95% of male lead superheroes have opposite sex love interests, only 61% of female lead heroes have opposite sex love interests. 62% of male leads end up together with their (female) love interests. Only 22% of female leads end up with their (male) love interest (in fact I can only find 4 examples, as opposed to the 26 male examples. All four are tv shows. I do not know of a female lead superhero movie/movie franchise that ends with the female lead happy together with her male love interest.) In contrast only 5% of male leads have no love interest whatsoever, as opposed to 22% of female leads. Women are also more likely to have their love interest die, with 17% compared to the male 10%.

The categories I used:

A. ends up with their love interest (the lead themselves MAY die. For example Tony Stark does get to marry Pepper and have a child, and then dies. Oliver Queen has a similar situation and then also gets an epilogue together with Felicity in some sort of afterlife) B. Has a love interest but doesn't end up with them (they split up; the love interest ends up with someone else; they are permanently separated) C. The love interest dies D. No canonical love interest E. The series is still ongoing/was cancelled mid-story-- there IS a love interest but it's not clear if they end up together eventually or not (EA-- will probably be together/implied they will; EB-- doesn't seem like they'll be together; E-- I have no clue. I recognize these are open to interpretation, that's why they're classified separately) F. Same Sex love interest

"What do you mean by a "lead"?" They have to be THE main character of their series/movie/franchise. Generally this is the title character. Ensembles were included only if there was a clearly discernible main character (e.g. Peter Quill in GOTG). The only times I counted co-leads was in the cases of Agents of Shield (both Daisy and Coulson), TFATWS (Sam and Bucky), BVS (Clark and Bruce), and Hawkeye (Clint and Kate).

Additional Explanations:

I only included movies/shows from after 2000.

If a character has multiple love interests I categorized them by their most important or final love interest. Being together with someone at the end of the series automatically puts them in the A category. If they don't end up with anyone, I made a judgment about which love interest was most significant and grouped them according to that. For instance--- Daisy Johnson has 3 major love interests (Ward, Lincoln, Sousa) but she is grouped as an A because she ends the series in a relationship with Sousa. Frank Castle I counted as a C because while Karen is maybe a love interest, his wife and her death are the more significant story factor.

I excluded movies/series that are an ensemble without a clear lead such as Marvel's Runaways (or where I didn't know enough about the movie to determine if there was a clear lead, like Suicide Squad). I also left out movies that I just don't know much about (like Deadpool, Elektra, or Watchmen). I left out Cloak and Dagger because I'm incredibly unclear whether they are meant to be future love interests or not. All X-men properties were excluded because determining A) who counts as a lead, B) are the different versions different characters and C) what endings count as canon was just a mess so I decided to skip it.

Why is Fury on this list as an A? He's the lead of Secret Invasion and is married. We might not see his wife again but last we heard they're happily married.

Why did you specify Matt Murdock as (Cox-Netflix)? Right now it's unclear if the main MCU Matt and the Netflix Matt are the same continuity, though it seems like they are not. The Netflix show ends with the suggestion that Matt and Karen will get back together at some point. She-Hulk and what's been seen so far of future Daredevil appearances don't acknowledge Karen.

Why is Peggy a lead/does Peggy really end up with her love interest? She's the lead of Agent Carter though not the lead of a movie. If we're counting Agent Carter separately, she ends that show in a relationship with Daniel. They are different ways to interpret timelines and which shows exist in which timelines etc. but regardless, Peggy is the lead of a show, and ends up married to either Steve or Daniel.

Why are same-sex relationships counted separately? Because I'm specifically looking at a trend regarding putting female characters in relationships with male characters. I contend that it stems from a sexist view that doing so portrays the woman as subordinate or lesser than her male partner, even if she is the main character. This "issue" is side-stepped by putting the lead in a relationship with another woman.

Why isn't Hope Van Dyne (Wasp) a lead even though she's a title character? Because functionally she's still secondary to Scott in the story. When I allowed co-leads they were never each other's love interests. Often the second lead is the love interest of the male lead, which skews the data. Gamora is a similar situation.

Further takeaways: 2 male heroes (Oliver Queen and Bale Batman) have a significant love interest turn out to be evil and betray them, plus an additional 3 (Iron Fist, Daredevil, and sorta Loki) that have some sort of minor betrayal that ends with the love interest on the same side as them. That's 5 or 12% depending on which number you take (I'm more inclined toward the 5%). 2 women have a major love interest turn out to be evil (Daisy Johnson and Sersi) and an additional three have a more minor betrayal with a turn around (Peggy, Courtney, and Kara). Which is 12 or 29%. Plus an additional 2 that were victims of an abusive relationship of some sort with an all out supervillain (41%).

In the above stats, characters were only put in the C (dead love interest) category if that is their main love interest. If they later end up with someone, they are in a different category. If we look at characters who had a love interest die at some point (whether permanently or not) stats are affected thusly: Male characters who have a love interest die: 12 Female characters who have a love interest die: 6 29% of male heroes have a love interest die 33% of female heroes have a love interest die

Currently at 9,167,371 words, slowly inching toward the 10 million mark!

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Oh gosh, the total list is so long at this point, with various one-off kind of deals, or fandoms I've moved on from.

I am currently considering myself an active writer in these fandoms though: Shadowhunters, Percy Jackson, Detective Conan/Magic Kaito, DC Comics.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Which actually looked really fucked up because yeah sure there's four super popular multi-chapter fics of mine. And then there is My College Boyfriend, which isn't just a oneshot, it is a oneshot with under 3k words. What. What.

And the, quite frankly frustrating, part here is that this oneshot only has 24 comments. Not even every 100th reader felt the need to leave a comment. That's just... so sad. Like. Genuinely, I think the kudos system broke commenting because the convenience of pressing a button beat actually expressing yourself genuinely through words and from the bottom of my heart, I find that depressing as fuck.

5. Do you respond to comments?

Always. Every single one of them. Because comments mean something. Someone took the time to tell you, with words, that they liked your work and maybe even what they liked about it.

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Ooof, multiple contestants from back in my day when I wrote German fics for the Beyblade fandom and wrote about... darker themes. Not all fics used to have happy endings. I wrote some fics that ended in a suicide, so I guess those.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Impossible to answer, because for as long as I've been active in English writing, all my fics have had happy endings. The guy gets the guy, the girl gets the girl, and they live happily ever after. The world is saved or the evil defeated, maybe there's even an epilogue of a next gen in there. That's my standard, it ends happily. So that makes it impossible to pick one that somehow ends happier than the rest. xD

8. Do you get hate on fics?

loool

Right. Sorry. Yeah. Yeah, of course. Funnily enough, never on the things you would assume attract hatred - the incest, the explicitly non-con stuff.

Nah, I got death threats and words that were somehow worse than death threats on my Oliver/Felicity fics in the DC fandom... a... straight canon ship... but not the canon ship from the multiverse that these vile assholes liked, so, ya know. Threaten the fans who love a ship you hate.

Also over the years, lotta nasty general homophobia for Nico/Percy in the PJO fandom - I have been writing in this fandom since 2010, and yes, there were really a lot of people especially in the earlier years who just hated the idea of making either Percy or Nico gay.

And the dumbasses who declare Jace/Alec incest and thus hate and threaten this ships fans in the Shadowhunters fandom. But still, inexplicably, like Alec. Even though, in canon, he's the one who was in love with Jace. I don't know, but if you claim the nasty, nasty incest is The Bad Thing, I think you should hate the character with the nasty, nasty incestuous feelings, instead of the fans who write perfectly tagged and filterable fics. But that's just me, I guess.

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

All kinds of smut? I don't know how to answer this question, to be honest. xD

I've written oral, anal, vaginal, mlm, wlw, m/m/f, rare m/f ships but usually either she pegs or it's ABOverse and she's an alpha, I generally pepper in some flavors of BDSM into it, I've written dub-con and non-con before, bestiality, double penetrations. I have written a lot.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve ever written?

Oh, that is absolutely going to my first ever crossover. Because my usual crossovers are, ya know, that Big Four animated movie crossover verse (Tangled/Brave/HTTYD/RotG), or "I like these two fandoms, how would A's characters fit into B's world/how would B's characters fit into A's world?" for... essentially all my fandoms, and I wouldn't call any of these crazy - because the Big Four crossover is a beast of an own fandom so it's not really "original" or far out there to write for it, and in all my other crossovers, I do pride myself on making it work, like, not just throwing characters together but fitting their backstories and special powers into how the other world works.

So the craziest one is absolutely A Hundred Times Over, which is a oneshot sequel to my first-ever English-written fic and was written as a celebration because it was my 100th fic back then.

The original fic was already a crossover between Detective Conan and PJO, so for the celebration I thought "okay so what if I throw in my current obsession - Doctor Who - and my first ever ship - Shere Khan/Bagheera?". So, yeah, this crossover between Detective Conan, Percy Jackson, Doctor Who and Jungle Book has to be my craziest so far.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

So often. So, so, so, so often.

If you see my fics on watpad or any other platform that isn't AO3 or Fanfiction.net - and if you see them on those two but posted by an author that ISN'T Takara Phoenix - then please, let me know. Drop me a link wherever you can, I always greatly appreciate being told that my fics have been stolen so I can report that person and have it taken down.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No. All of the stealing of my fics has made me incredibly uncomfortable with the idea of my fics flowing around on other people's accounts or other websites, especially since the first like four or so stolen fics I had were translated.

Someone took my fics, translated them into Spanish and Russian, and posted them on other platforms, without ever asking my permission.

I don't want thieves to more easily slip through the cracks in between authorized repostings of my stories, so I have the blanket policy to not allow translations.

If you see my fics in other languages, tell me.

(There is one story that has been translated, but I'm not sure how far it counts, because I did the translating myself, and that's Lass Uns Etwas Dummes Tun/Looking For Something Dumb to Do. It is a PJO fic about Nico/Percy that I wrote in celebration for Germany legalizing gay marriage in 2017; I wrote it in German first, due to that, and then decided to translate it into English since I know my core-audience are English-speakers and not German-speakers.)

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

We've written a total of five fics together so far.

Three Shadowhunters fics: Hurting and Healing, a Magnus/Jace oneshot, Three Times the Boys Felt Left Out, a Jordan/Simon/Jace oneshot, A King By Any Other Name, a Alec/Jace oneshot.

A Vampire Academy oneshot about Mason/Christian: The Chance at a Happily Ever After.

And, our pride and joy, our 51k multichapter Shadowhunters/Vampire Academy crossover fic about Mason/Christian and Simon/Jace: Double Puppy Dare.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

That's such a hard question to answer for me as a multishipper.

But to be quite honest, I think I would have to go with Kaito/Shinichi from Detective Conan/Magic Kaito?

It's the ship I've been the most consistently been faithful to and that, whenever I see it, sparks joy. That has proven that even when the fandom's gone dormant for me for months or years, it can reignite into a wildfire, where other fandoms just fizzle out and disappear from my interests then.

These two get me, they've been getting me for one and a half decades now and I doubt they'll stop any time soon.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

All of my unfinished German fics over on Animexx. When the German Beyblade fandom started to die, I tried to cling on, but at one point... when all your favorite writers, all your friends, have moved on? And then I started reading fics in English and soon after, also writing them in English. I feel bad about it, but it's just been far too long now.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Personally, I'd say world building. That's also my passion. I love creating elaborate worlds for my stories to take place in - I mean, damn, for the book series I'm writing, I developed my own language, religion and drew a map of the city it takes place in, among other things. A well-developed world is so important.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Oh, fight scenes and action and other things that...

When a character is good at a thing that I am not good in or know a lot about?

Like, when a character is super quippy and funny, but I am not really a one-liners-person so now I have to come up with quippy one-liners to capture his personality?

Or fighting or science, when a character is an expert in a field that I know nothing about and would not understand jackshit about even if I tried because it's not my wheelhouse? Those things, I really struggle with.

Also, I hate action and fight scenes. Like. That's the parts when I check my phone usually to avoid that my eyes glaze over from boredom. So, naturally, writing these things? Not fun. Not good at it either, imo. But certain fics - or rather, certain characters too - require action and fight scenes.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Painful if you have to use Google Translate. If you know the language? Yeah, go for it! If you have to resort to Google Translate? Maybe just write it in italics and note that it's in x language. It spares both, the native speakers who will die from second hand embarrassment, and the non-speakers who... won't understand it anyway.

But in the cases that I use foreign languages (and usually when I do, it's just... pet-names. Things you can't really fuck up that much and things that people would say in another language even in English-main-dialogues), I always put the translation right behind the sentence, because it's a special brand of obnoxious when you have to scroll ALL the way to the end of a chapter or fic to see what tf you just read, and then scroll back up again.

Hate doing that, so I won't do that to my readers.

19. First fandom you ever wrote for?

Oh, that's Yu-Gi-Oh!, with a hurt/comfort Kaiba/Joey fic.

20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?

Can't answer that, it always depends on my current mood which of my babies I love the most ;P

Hace años no hago una reseña por aquí, he estado tan ocupada y con tantas cosas en la mente que olvide un poco la lectura, pero he vuelto, en 2023 entré a la U, solo leí como 8 libros, no sabía muy bien como organizar mi horario pero ya todo gud xd

Ya el lunes vuelvo a la U asi que estuve leyendo un poco este mes, tengo pensado este año leer 30 libros, espero cumplir la meta

Comenzaré con mi primer mini reseña, o sea, el primer libro que leí este año

La hipótesis del amor - Ali Hazelwood

Admito que me costó un poquitín iniciar este libro, su inicio es muy bueno, sábes? Como que te deja eso de "necesito seguir leyendo" pero pasaron las páginas y me aburrio un poco pero luego BUM! No quería parar de leer

El románce que hay en este libro es una maravilla, si les soy sincera toda mujer merece en su vida a un Adam Carlsen, el que él estuviera enamorado de la prota desde el minuto 1 que la conoció y sea tan él cuando está con ella es bellísimo, la expectativa es él, mujeres

El libro es creo que le dicen fake date ¿? O bueno, eso de que le hacen creer que a todo el mundo que están en una relación pero realmente es mentira, eso lo hace mas emocionante >:) en fin, me terminó encantando, creo que tengo por ahí algunas frases que marqué, no recuerdo bien pero creo que en goodreads le di 4/5 estrellas, igual debí ponerle 5 jajshsk

Tiene 487 páginas y es fácil de leer si quieren un libro ligero :D

It was a normal movie night in when they were ambushed. He had stood between the intruders and Aiden. But they shot him before taking her, screaming and fighting. "I'm trying...I'm so tired."

Time for a story - Inheritance

“You look exhausted.”

“Sleepless night.”

Oliver leaned back into the soft leather of his executive arm chair and took a sip of his coffee. He didn’t take his eyes off his phone that was placed on the desk before him once though. He hadn’t taken his eyes off it for the past three hours since he had entered his office really.

“You weren’t up for bunker duty, so I guess I don’t want to know why you didn’t get any sleep, do I?”

Although he really wasn’t feeling like smiling, Oliver felt a smile tug at the corner of his lips. He lifted his gaze to look at John briefly, and wasn’t surprised to find his friend look back at him with a facial expression was all too familiar with. Even without having to say it or anything, Oliver could read in his face that John felt like he was putting up with things that he really didn’t want to put up with. Oliver couldn’t blame him on that one. Maybe John had already gotten a little too much insight on his and Felicity’s sex life.

Oliver remembered that Emmy had walked in on them once. They had told her that they were doing gymnastics together or something like that. He didn’t remember exactly. Unfortunately, John had come by only a couple of minutes later, and Emmy had told him all about what she had been seen and been told. John had looked right through it of course.

Some other time Felicity had been going on and on about her juices which should have referred to fruit juices, but… yeah.

John really must had had enough of them for a long time already.

“Well, Felicity did keep me up quite long last night,” Oliver said, unable to not tease John at least a little, “so…”

John shook his head, rolling his eyes slightly. “I really do not need to hear that. And I definitely don’t want to hear it either.”

Oliver chuckled quietly and shook his head. Putting the mug of coffee sown on the top of the desk, he rested his forearms on the armrests of his chair and looked at John seriously. Even before he said anything, he knew John already sensed the shift of mood before anything more was being said.

“Felicity is at the bunker to find out who Mia’s biological parents are.”

John didn’t show a sign of surprise. He had always mastered the poker face quite well. Oliver doubted that he had suspected anything like that though. On the other hand, he wasn’t surprised about anything when it came to John. He had a man full of surprises, hidden talents and knowledge that nobody else had.

“You don’t want to find out?”

“I am scared of what we might find.” Oliver caught himself rubbing his fingers together in his usual nervous tick and found he was unable to stop it. “Never mind the consequences of whatever results that research brings to light. I don’t want to lose Mia.”

“Understandably.” John looked at him intently. “But you did know that there was a chance that Mia wouldn’t stay with you forever when you took her in, didn’t you?”

Oliver groaned. He had reminded himself of that all night. He knew it was true. They had known what they were getting into when they had taken Mia in. At least in their heads they had known, but they had underestimated how painful it would be if that time really came.

“There is a difference between having that happen and doing things to make it happen though.” Oliver sighed. “I think figuring out who her parents are could force us into a situation where we have to admit that Mia could happily grow up with her biological family.”

They wouldn’t give Mia away to anyone unless they were sure that she was safe and happy there. Mia would win in this situation either way, and that was what really was important about it. Still, Oliver didn’t have to like the idea of losing her, did he?

Mia wasn’t their biological daughter, but she was their child nonetheless. She didn’t share their DNA, but she was part of the family. They loved her as much as they loved their other children. Love had made her a part of the family, and love would make it unbearable to not have her with them every day.

Of course they would do it. They would put their needs and their desires behind to offer Mia the best life possible. If her biological family wanted her and could take care for her, it was their right and her right to be together. He and Felicity would honor that.

It would just be incredibly hard.

“Why aren’t you-“

John’s question was interrupted by the tone his phone released at the reception of a new text. Oliver grabbed his phone so quickly that it almost fell out of his hands and landed on the floor. Thanks to his quick reflexes, he secured the phone in his grip before it could fall down though.

FQ: Bunker! ASAP!!!

Oliver felt his heart drop and his mouth go dry. So Felicity had found out something. If she wanted him to come to the bunker as soon as possible and just texted instead of called like they had agreed on, it had to be bad. It had to be really bad.

“It’s Felicity.” Oliver stared released a long breath, trying and failing to calm his racing heart. “She wants to meet me at the bunker.”

John nodded his head. “Take your time. I’ll cover everything here.”

Oliver swallowed down against the thick lump forming in his throat. Getting up, he grabbed the jacket of his suit from the back of his chair and walked to the door. His head was already spinning with all the possible scenarios he could be met with when he arrived at the bunker. What worried him the most was what Felicity was like since-

“Oliver?”

The handle of the door already in his hand, Oliver turned back to John once more. Something in his friend’s face helped him to calm down for a moment.

“If you need anything, really anything,” John said with emphasize, “just let me know.”

Oliver nodded his head. “Thank you.”

He felt like he was walking through a long tunnel that only had a tiny light at the end of it, but that was hard to focus on. He walked through the building to the underground parking and though he crossed paths with at least twelve people, he couldn’t remember who it was and if they had talked to him or not.

Getting into his car, Oliver wondered once more how Felicity was doing in this very moment. When he had come home yesterday, he had found her crying in Mia’s nursery after she had run into a girl that she had believed to be Mia’s mother. This was what had started all of this. She had believed that Mia was taken from them. Now she wanted to certainty on who could actually take her from them and whether that could still be a good thing for Mia.

Was she crying now too, knowing that Mia could have a good life with her biological family? Or was she angry because whoever had left Mia there had left her there to die, knowing that she was sick?

Maybe she hadn’t found out anything, Oliver tried to tell himself, but he knew it was stupid. There was no way that she would have told him to come to the bunker as soon as possible if she hadn’t found anything. Besides, it was Felicity. She always found everything that she wanted to know.

So who were her parents? A teenage couple that had been too scared of facing the problems they were getting with their parents when they showed up home with a baby? A woman who was living in a relationship that was filled with domestic violence and had decided to give her baby away, so it wouldn’t grow up in an environment like that? Or were the parents one of the unfortunate souls in Starling City that lived on the streets, unable or unwilling to seek help in one of the shelters? Or had the mother been in a emotional crisis and-

Oliver hit the break so hard that the car behind him honked aggressively. In the rearview mirror, he saw the driver raising his hands in an angry gesture, but Oliver couldn’t get himself to show even the slightest gesture of apology.

What if Mia’s biological mother had suffered from a prenatal depression or a postnatal depression or even a postnatal psychosis? That would certainly rip open old wounds for Felicity. During the pregnancies with Tommy and Addie, she had suffered through prenatal depressions too. She had been so scared that she would do something that could harm the children.

If that was truly why Mia had been left in the dumpster, it would certainly explain why Felicity had ordered him to come to the bunker as soon as possible. She would need him to process that news if it was true.

He broke quite some speed limits to get to the bunker as quickly as possible. He parked the car at a nearby street where it wouldn’t attract attention as it would be if he parked it in front of the old campaign office. The main reason for him to park not directly there was that he needed a couple of minutes of fresh air though.

When he arrived at the bunker, he had to be the anchor for Felicity. He had to help her deal with whatever emotions she was feeling. If his suspicion was true and Mia’s biological mother had suffered from some mental illness while placing her there, he needed to be Felicity’s rock. She needed to be able to lean on him.

The ride in the elevator down to their hideout seemed to be taking forever. He used the time to breathe in through his nose and release the breath through his slightly opened lips as slowly as possible. It didn’t really help him to calm down, but he continued to do so until the elevator stopped anyway.

Oliver caught sight of Felicity as soon as the elevator doors opened. She was walking up and down in her area of work, glancing at the baby carriage from side to side. When she noticed him, she shot him a brief glance, but she continued walking up and down nervously.

She didn’t look like she was on the verge of a breakdown, Oliver realized with a bit of relief. It didn’t make him feel easy though. Maybe what she had found out didn’t have anything to do with prenatal or postnatal depression, but that could still mean that Mia had parents that could take care of her if they only got a little help.

“How bad is it?”

Taking some long steps, Oliver stepped onto the platform where her computers were set. With his arms crossed in front of his chest, he stepped right in front of Felicity. He wanted her to stop pacing up and down. He wanted to look into her eyes while talking to her about what she had found out about Mia.

Felicity was swirling her wedding band and engagement ring around her finger. Oliver wasn’t sure if he had seen her do that very often since they had gotten married. Usually, he was the one doing that when he was nervous. It had superseded his former usual tick of fidgeting his fingers together.

“Before I tested Mia’s DNA, I tried some other ways of finding out who her parents are. I-“

“The risk of me not getting a single word you say is high as it is. Let’s just jump to the important parts.”

Usually, Oliver would listen patiently to everything Felicity had to say, even if he didn’t understand a word. He knew how much she loved to work her magic, and he loved listening to her speaking about it even if he didn’t understand a word. He would enjoy her babble because she was would enjoy it.

What he needed now were facts though.

“So I took a sample of Mia’s DNA and let it run through all the data banks that we have access to. I didn’t really think that I would find a match. I just thought that maybe I found something that could, you know, help.”

Oliver felt his tension growing stronger. He took in a deep breath and nodded his head slowly.

“But you did find a match?”

“Yes.”

It wasn’t often that he had to ask so many questions to get the info from Felicity. Most times, she told him what he wanted to know without him having to ask. She would know what he wanted to know before he did.

The longer the silence lasted, the more nervous Oliver felt. He didn’t want to ask the question, afraid of its answer.

With a shake of his head, he turned to the baby carriage and looked at Mia. She was sleeping peacefully, enjoying the fact that she didn’t know what was going on around her. Life was easy for her as it was now because she was loved and protected and home. Oliver didn’t want that to change for her. Ever.

“Whatever you found out,” Oliver said eventually, still looking at Mia, “I don’t think I want to know.”

“Yes, you do.” Felicity stepped next to him, looking at him intently. “Because it’s us. We are Mia’s parents.”

With held breath, Felicity watched Oliver’s reaction to her words. He had lifted his gaze to look at her face immediately. The small furrow between his eyebrows proved that he was processing her words, trying to find the hidden meanings they could hold.

“So her parents won’t come in the way? They won’t want her back? Or they won’t get her back?”

Felicity understood his reaction. She hadn’t understood it at first either although she had seen the results of that DNA analysis right in front of her. She had seen them and read them. Still, she hadn’t been able to comprehend what that had meant for several minutes.

“No, Oliver.” Felicity took a step closed to him, put her hands to his crossed arms and turned him until he was facing her. “The DNA test proved that Mia carries your and my DNA. She is our biological child.”

It didn’t make sense. She had read it. She had run a second test to prove the results. She had thought it over and over again until she had finally unable to do anything but accept them to be true. Still, it didn’t make any sense. Not even to her.

“I know it doesn’t make any sense,” she suddenly heard herself saying, “because I wasn’t pregnant. I would know if I had been pregnant, and you would have certainly noticed it too. Besides, everyone else would have. Even if they hadn’t and we hadn’t, this wouldn’t have happened like this. Mia cannot be out biological child.”

Oliver nodded his head slowly like he was processing her words. He didn’t seem to understand them. Truthfully, not even Felicity herself did. It just didn’t make any sense.

Still, she knew it was true. Mia carried her and Oliver’s DNA. She was their biological child, at least as far as you could trust the DNA analysis that any laboratories here could tell.

They just didn’t know the whole truth.

“She can’t be our baby,” Felicity said, “at least not like our-our baby.”

Narrowing his eyes on her slightly, Oliver dipped his head forward slightly. He seemed to get to the conclusion she had come to a lot quicker than she had. She guessed it was her influence that had helped with that though. Usually, she was a lot quicker when it came to understanding things. It was just easier to come to the right conclusions when you weren’t alone with your thoughts.

“She is some other earth’s Oliver and Felicity’s baby.”

Felicity nodded her head. “That is what I think, yes.”

“Can you find out which earth’s doppelgangers’ baby she is?”

“As horrible as it is for me to admit it, the answer is no,” Felicity said and thought she saw the glimpse of a smile cross Oliver’s face, “but we know someone who can.”

“Cisco.”

Felicity nodded her head. “Cisco.”

Luckily, Starling City didn’t have that much trouble with doppelgangers and different earth’s here. It was a totally different way of crazy, and Felicity wanted to stay away from it as much as possible. It was too confusing and too whatever.

Central City dealt with problems like different earths and doppelgangers way more often. So of course Cisco had to be the first person to turn to with the situation they were facing.

“I already contacted him and sent him the results of the analyses I did. He will use those to find out which earth she belongs to. With the data they have gathered and saved about all the different earth, he can do some sort of DNA analysis that exceeds the possibilities of our systems because they are simple not made to process information about different earths.”

Oliver sucked in a deep breath and nodded his head slowly. With the little information she had given him, she guessed he understood what was done in Central City to find out where exactly Mia came from.

Felicity watched him turning his gaze towards Mia once more. He watched the sleeping girl with so much affection in his eyes that it made her heart melt. She had done so the same while she had been waiting for Oliver to come here. She had looked at Mia again and again, hoping it would help her process this new information.

Stepping closer to Oliver, she linked her arm with his and rested her head on his shoulder. Just like Oliver, she looked at Baby Mia and felt her heart warm at how calm and peaceful she was.

“It’s crazy, isn’t it?”

“I guess you mean all of it?” Oliver asked. “Because the answer is yes.”

Felicity smiled, nodding her head. “It always felt like she belonged to us. I always thought it was just because she stumbled into our lives like that, and we are a very welcoming family. Maybe it’s more than though. Maybe it’s because she belongs to us.”

Oliver angled his head to the side, so he could rest it against hers. “That rises the question why she stumbled into our life even more though, doesn’t it?”

“Probably.” Felicity squeezed his upper arm. “Something must have happened if we found our way to each other, had a child and aren’t raising it.”

Felicity felt a shiver run down the length of her spine at the thought. She knew that her kids had to be ripped from her life violently for them to end up on some other earth. She’d do anything in her power to never have them be taken from them and to get them back if it happened after all.

Before she could get lost in that thought, she felt her phone vibrating in the pocket of her dress. Her heart started racing even before she saw Cisco’s name showing on the display.

“Cisco,” she said, taking the call, and put her phone on speaker, so Oliver could hear everything too, “did you find out anything?”

“I wouldn’t have dared to call before I did.”

“So you know where she comes from?”

“Yes.”

Felicity sucked in a sharp breath and swallowed against the lump that was forming in her throat. There was a part of her that didn’t want to know, but she had been the one to get this stone rolling. If she hadn’t started doing research, they never would have found out that Mia was their biological child and with that some other earth’s Oliver and Felicity’s daughter.

“So where does she come from?”

Felicity waited with held breath for Cisco to answer. She didn’t dare to release the breath in her lungs, afraid that the noise it would make would stop her from hearing what Cisco wanted to tell her. She did need to hear it though.

“It’s Earth 16.” Cisco didn’t leave her much time to process the news. “I am already working on creating an interdimensional extrapolator for that earth, so you can travel there if you need to. It will take some hours, btu I can call you when it’s done, and you can talk to you doppelgangers and find out what Mia was left on our earth. Alright?”

Questions needed to be answered, so a trip to that earth might turn out to be necessary indeed. Even if they went there, they couldn’t do what Cisco had suggested though.

“We cannot talk to our doppelgangers.”

Felicity didn’t dare to look at Oliver. He was standing just three feet away from her, looking at the phone in her hand just like she was. He didn’t say a word, and he didn’t move. Felicity didn’t want to know what his face looked like, she didn’t want to see his reaction and find out if he already know what this meant. She remembered what Earth 16 was, but she wasn’t entirely sure if he did. She was too busy with her own.

And although she couldn’t see Cisco’s face, she could almost hear his confusion. Apparently, Central City hadn’t gathered that much information on Earth 16 yet, or Cisco just didn’t remember. It wasn’t about his doppelganger’s life after all.

“Look, I know it can drive people into insanity if you run into your doppelganger, but-“

“It’s not about that,” Felicity interrupted him. “We cannot talk to our doppelgangers because they are dead.”

Pairing: Laurel Lance x Reader

Summary: You come back to Star City only to learn that it's beyond saving.

A lot could happen in three years. You watched as nearly every person who you loved and cared about had some aspect of their life destroyed, and then finally, you ran away from the place that had caused it all. Star City was like a plague, but it was inescapable. You had tried to run and hide for three years, but eventually found yourself right back where you never really wanted to be. This time would be different for you. You weren't helpless like you had been before. There was an element of control that you had over your life that you didn't before. You couldn't wait to go see Laurel and tell her all about how you had turned your life around. You hoped that she was finding her place as Black Canary, and maybe there would be a spot for you to help her.

"You know, I expected Laurel to make it into the DA's office, but this is a surprise," you said as you stepped into Oliver Queen's office. Oliver had been one of your close friends growing up, and the last place you expected to find him was working as the mayor. He had never been into politics, and even when Moira had been running, he hadn't cared too much. "You look ridiculous in that suit."

"Felicity told me it looked good," Oliver said, his voice going slightly higher in pitch. You smirked as you stepped completely into his office. He opened up his arms, offering you a hug. It was a small gesture, but it was something that never would have happened before you had left.

"It's not you," you told him. Oliver nodded in understanding. He ushered you towards a chair as he moved past you to close the door. "How is she, by the way? I know we weren't close, but she seemed like one of the good ones."

"She's good. We're all good. What are you doing back in Star City?" Oliver asked. There was no malice or mistrust, which sort of surprised you. The two of you had a tumultuous relationship. You had ever since he had begun dating Laurel. You'd been Sara's best friend growing up, and maybe, just maybe, you had developed quite a crush on Laurel. Even as the two of you grew up and changed, you hadn't let go of those feelings. There just had never been a good time for you to act on them. If it wasn't Oliver in the way, then it was Tommy or somebody's vice doing the trick.

"I'm here to see Laurel," you told him. Oliver's face fell at that, knowing which Laurel you were there to see. You had been gone with no contact from anybody in Star City. He doubted that even Thea had been able to get a hold of you. Felicity had kept tabs on you, but never reached out. She had tried when Laurel died, but you had been in no headspace to receive that news. "What's wrong? D-did something happen to Laurel?"

"Damien Darhk killed her a couple years ago. I thought you knew," Oliver said quietly. It was barely a whisper, spoken with extreme care. He watched you carefully as he waited for your reaction. You couldn't react though, you didn't even feel like you could breathe. Oliver gingerly reached towards you and took your hand in his. "I'm sorry that you had to find out this way."

"Everything," you mumbled as you curled up into yourself. "This city has taken everything from me. There's nothing to save anymore. Why do you even bother? All Star City will ever do is take and take until you're small enough for it to swallow whole."

"Y/n, you can't think like that," Oliver told you. You weren't in a mood to listen to him though. You tore yourself away from him and bolted out of his office. You didn't know where to go, you had put all of your chips in this, and now you were all alone in the last place you wanted to be. Star City without Laurel might as well have been your own personal hell. As you looked around, you didn't see the place where you had grown up and gone to college, all you could see were potential targets for your own destruction and rage. You wanted to burn it all down, but the only thing stopping you was knowing how much Laurel had loved the city. It had been her home, and she thought it was worth saving even when you didn't.

It's been a while, but not that long so sure :D I do enjoy answering these, after all

Tommy Merlyn

1: sexuality headcanon

He's bi. Definitely bi. More into women than men, but he's an equal opportunity flirt.

2: otp

Tommy/Oliver or Tommy/Oliver/Laurel - there are a few other ships for him I like, but not to the point I'd call them an OTP

3: brotp

Tommy & Oliver & Thea where Tommy is the unofficial third Queen sibling - after all, he is actually Thea's sibling for real already

4: notp

Tommy/Thea for what are probably pretty obvious reasons. I feel so bad for Thea in season 1 knowing that part of her freak out in season 2 over having her biological parentage kept from her is knowing that she hit on her own brother and her mother never warned her.

5: first headcanon that pops into my head

In the Earth Prime universe, Tommy took Laurel's last name and became Tommy Lance. After his dad tried to blow up half the city and nearly killed Tommy along with it, he's not exactly keen to stay a Merlyn. So it makes sense that when he married Laurel, it was the Lance family name he wanted to honor and continue.

6: favorite line from this character

I really like this exchange:

Tommy: Dinah Laurel Lance always trying to save the world. Laurel: Hey. If I don't try and save it, who will?

It's very cute. And I do enjoy Tommy/Laurel even they're not an OTP to me, so having them be flirty while also kinda summing themselves up at the same time? He wants to support Laurel even though no one ever really taught him how to do that and she wants to save people be it as part of CNRI or as the Black Canary.

7: one way in which I relate to this character

Tommy struggles a lot with his feelings of not being good enough and when I was his age (when this show began he was older, now I am, how dare time work like this) so did I. Admittedly, for very different reasons. I've definitely found my sense of self confidence and self worth, though, and I'd like to think that Earth Prime Tommy did too, even though we didn't get to see it happen.

8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character

He can be a little misogynistic at times. I do see it as something he's growing out of over the course of S1. End of season Tommy is way less prone to making an ass of himself objectifying women the way start of season Tommy is, so at least it's something he's got character growth about.

Oliver Queen

1: sexuality headcanon

Bi or pan. Oliver definitely has a crush on Barry going on by the time the Flash season premier rolled around.

2: otp

Barry/Oliver and Tommy/Oliver

I used to really like Felicity/Oliver and then the ship became canon and I just... didn't like the way they kinda brought out the worst in each other at times *shrug* a good example of being careful what you wish for, I suppose. Some ships are better left to fanon.

I actually really like the show Laurel/Oliver as exes, that was a fun dynamic for them. Though for the comics its Dinah/Oliver all the way.

3: brotp

Oliver & Dig, Oliver & Barry, Oliver & Tommy

Oliver & Dig especially though. It is fun seeing their friendship grow and be tested and come out stronger in the end. I was glad that if Oliver had to show up one last time on the Flash that Dig was there to see him and say goodbye.

4: notp

McKenna Hall and Isabel Rochev

The former... I do like her and Ollie on the show, they're cute but... she's a cop and comics Oliver would never.

Isabel having been one of Oliver's father's affairs and her only sleeping with Oliver to get revenge on a dead man who chose not to abandon his children is gross and squicks me so much when it happens on the show.

5: first headcanon that pops into my head

Oliver tells Barry that he can inspire people with hope because he inspired Oliver first. Meeting and becoming friends with Barry made Oliver want to be a better version of himself and he just feels comfortable around Barry/trusting Barry in a way he doesn't with everyone else.

6: favorite line from this character

So I don't know what my favorite line is, Oliver gets a lot of good zingers in, but I really love this exchange with him and Malcolm every time I rewatch S1

Malcolm: What are your thoughts, Oliver?

Oliver: I think the vigilante needs a better code name then "The Hood" or "The Hood Guy."

Malcolm: I agree. How about Green Arrow?

Oliver: Lame.

And then what is Oliver's final code name? The Green Arrow, of course.

7: one way in which I relate to this character

Honestly, I don't really know that I relate to him. He's a very different person from me which is probably what makes him such an interesting character to delve into when writing.

8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character

Joining the cops??? I thought his inability to stop lying to people about shit could not be topped and then the final season happened. Comics Oliver would disown show Oliver over that one. He may not have been an real police officer, but working with the cops like that was just... crossing a line that should not have been crossed with this character.
