Reader: *coughs blood*
Dick: Don't die, Y/N!
Reader: Don't tell me what to do!
Bruce: And have you learnt anything this Christmas, Y/N?
Reader: …Not really.
Bruce: Nothing?
Reader: Tell you one thing I have learnt—Christmas; ultimately, commercial holiday. Who's the real winner at Christmas? Amazon. they have drones now! Tiny little dystopian slaves delivering iPads and headphones. I ordered a toaster; It was on the doorstep five hours later! Do we need that? It was 4.99! For a toaster! I mean, someone's being exploited there.
Steph: You know guys, sometimes I feel like Reader doesn't take me seriously enough.
Bruce: "Sometimes"?
Jason: "Enough"?
Steph:
Jason: Change that to 'at all' and we'll talk.
Damian: Who wants to go out of the country on a road trip?
Reader: Yea, I could drink legally!
Tim: I could hang out with the boys!
Jason: I could hide from the consequences of my actions.
Damian & Dick: *accidentally set the kitchen on fire*
Dick: We need an adult!
Damian: Grayson, you are an adult!
Dick: We need an adultier adult! Get Jason!
Reader: Hey Jason, I’ve got an idea for how to solve this.
Jason, pulling out a shotgun: Yeah?
Reader: Wh- No! That’s not the idea, Jason!

*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_
Coming back from work and seeing your family look at you like you were an alien was definitely...shocking. And yet right there they were.
After not seeing your family in the kitchen once you arrived home. you immediately went down to the Batcave.
Walking down the steps and approaching your husband with a smile you didn’t even hear Barry’s shout  ‘Wait Y/N!’ before you embraced your love and felt him stiffen under your touch.
It seems that your action ensued silence over the room and you slowly let Bruce go and looked around the room to see your boys looking at you with obvious shock underneath their cowls and masks.
Damian looks at you with an expression you haven’t been faced with since when he first arrived at the manor. Your baby boy looking at you with suspicion and contempt was staggering. This was the first crack that formed in your heart.
Then there was Tim. Your Tim, looking at you with a guarded appearance and eyes screaming caution. Like you weren’t supposed to be there. Your boy who would immediately come to you after his night out and seek a hug. Now it was like he was looking through you, creating yet another crack in your heart.
Next was Jason whose face added to your heartbreak when he merely glanced at you. Not even sparing you an extra look as if you weren’t someone on his radar. Your Jay-bird looking at you with such indifference and lack of love.
And your first son. Your oldest looking at you with no love but concern. Not concerned for you but for his brothers. As if your mere presence was disrupting something. As if there is no reason you should be there.
No reason.
You glance back at Bruce to see him looking at you with that stare. The guarded batman stare. Now you feel dizzy. Quickly glancing towards Barry not wanting to see your Bruce looking at you like that, you face Barry with widened eyes and a flushed face.
Barry looking at you with genuine sympathy says the words that confirmed all your worst fears. “This isn't your family Y/N. They’re from a different universe”
God, you're going to be sick.
*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_
After seeing your shocked face and the uncomfortable, suffocating silence in the room Barry took you back inside the manor to explain to you and Alfred what happened. Leaving your fa- leaving them in the cave.
Apparently, Barry had a run-in with reverse Flash and somehow your family was sucked into a wormhole transporting them into another universe while taking a version of your family in that universe here. in your universe..... It was all very confusing and devastating to hear and you shed a few tears.
You had to have asked Barry a dozen questions about this other universe about where they could be, how this happened, and most importantly, how you were going to get them back. Barry told you that he and the league are figuring it out and will find them and you believe him.
So here you are sitting at dinner with a different version of your family in silence. It actually makes you want to cry.
Right now the boys would be telling you and Bruce about their day and catching you both up on their lives. Instead, they’re looking down at their plates while awkwardly glancing at you and hurriedly glancing away once you make eye contact with them.
It’s horrible.
And don't even get started on Bruce, that man has made a point to not even glance at you the entire duration of dinner. Just sitting there with a blank face and clearing his throat every few minutes.
It’s horrible.
Having enough of the silence (felt like knives in your back not being able to talk to your family) you clear your throat and immediately all their eyes shoot towards you.
Flushing from the attention your smile hesitantly chooses to try and talk to them instead of silence. They are still your family. They’re still your boys and husband. You’re just not their person right now. And until you can see your family again (you will see them again) you still care for these people and will do anything to make sure they are comfortable in their home.
“I- I know this is- well this situation we are in is very.... umm well it’s very”
“Weird” Dick blurts out before he can stop himself, earning a look from Bruce whose attention has been solely on you since you opened your mouth.
“Yes, Hon- I mean yes, Dick It’s very weird. But this is--- no matter what universe you all are from it’s still your home. And I don’t want you guys to be uncomfortable in your own home so if you have any questions just.... well just ask.”
the silence stretches out between you all before you hear a voice from your left.
“What exactly are you to us- I mean what are you to them?” Tim asks.
The question itself was easy to answer before but now in front of the boys who you know have got through horrible and traumatic things just the same as yours. You don’t know how they will react especially Bruce, Mr. Idontdesrvelove. (Though he’s gotten so much better with you and the kids)
“Well, I'm your guy’s mom.”
Silence. Deafening silence and then Alfred thankfully arrives, saving you from the conversation you know you’ll have to have at some point. But not today. Not when it’s so fresh.
“Miss Y/N, you do have an early day tomorrow so I think it’s all time we retire to bed. I'm sure you all are especially tired from your night.” Alfred says with a sympathetic tone you are so grateful for.
“Of course” You stand up from your chair drawing attention to you once again.
You face your......you face the boys and smile softly and bid them goodnight. Hoping that when you wake up that this is all a bad dream and Bruce will be snoring in the bed and you hear your kid's voices outside the door.
*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_
Bruce’s POV
This is all very uncomfortable. Bruce has a wife whom he’s never met in his life and who is the mother to his children.
Bruce watches you walk up the stairs to a bed that they share or he shares with you. The other him.
Ever since you hugged him in the Batcave and looked at him with eyes so tender and full of love Bruce couldn't help but feel a small amount of jealousy of....the other him. He has it all. He has children and a wife. Who loves him. He must not be as fucked up as he is. Your Bruce probably still has his parents or didn't witness their murder and has healthy coping issues. Yeah, he's envious of this other him.
Bruce looks to his kids to see them also confused staring at you. Is this what your kids have as a mother? Someone to go to for that soft and soothing guidance. How he remembers his mother was to him. He’s not just envious of the other Bruce but envious for his children. His rampant thoughts are stopped when Alfred- your Alfred speaks again.
“master...Master Bruce, I've set you up in the spare room by master Jason’s. It is ready for you to retire in whenever you see fit. Boys your rooms are... well they  are ready for you but if this manor is different ill be happy to show you the way.”
“Don't worry Alfred this manor is the same as ours” Jason speaks up for the first time since arriving.
“Very well boys if you need me I'll be in the kitchen preparing tea for Miss Y/N” Alfred takes his leave and the boys instantly start up their conversations.
“This is freaky..” Tim says while glancing at his Bruce and brothers.
“Yeah. We have a...mother in this universe” Dick hesitantly says, like saying the word ‘mother’ is all but confusing to him.
“yeah, I probably don’t get snuffed by Joker in this one” Jason offers sarcastically. Bruce closes his eyes at this and leans back in his chair. He saw Jason’s Robin costume. Identical to the one in their Batcave. Maybe this universe isn’t as good as he thought if your Bruce still couldn’t save Jason from his fate.
Damian ever the blunt kid speaks Bruce's thoughts, “Tch, I don't think so Todd. I saw your infamous Robin costume. Identical to the one in our universe” He says snidely.
“Yeah, me too evil spawn. It’s called a joke.” Jason responds while rolling his eyes.
“Boys. Enough” Bruce says with a firm tone that stops all conversation.
“Let’s go to the sitting room we have a lot to discuss.” Bruce stands up and leaves the kitchen hearing the sound of footsteps and disgruntled murmurs trailing after him.
*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_
Bruces POV
The boys and he have been talking about how to get back to their universe for a while. Bruce has made it a point to not bring up you in the conversation. Silence just ensues and awkward answers when you are brought up.
Talking with Dick about using the Batcave to contact this universes League and help get home he sees Damian get up off the chair and stride to a cabinet filled with...CDs? Damian grabs four of them and hesitantly grabs another looking at it for a second before putting it underneath the other four and walking back to the couch.
“I found CDs that have our names on them.” He announces effectively stopping all conversation and capturing all of our attention.
The silence stretches out before Dick speaks up, “Should we watch them.” When everyone is still silent he hurriedly explains himself “Well, I just mean are you curious about how the other versions of us live. Especially with Y/N”
It's silent again until suddenly Jason stands up ripping the CDs from Damian's hands (making him scramble up to get them back before Dick scolds him) and puts one in effectively shutting everyone up and their attention is drawn to the TV.
*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_
Dick’s POV
This whole day has been extremely weird and uncomfortable. Especially uncomfortable to know that another version of him has another mom. And yet as he watches the home video play out the feeling of uncomfortableness leaves and jealousy replaces it.
He watches Bruce and you record yourself making him his birthday breakfast. Something that sounds so simple and normal it makes Dick’s heart break a little.
“BRUCE STAWP!” You squeal dodging the whipped cream he tries to get on your face. “What? You can do it to me but I can’t do it to you?” your Bruce asks with a smile and whip cream plopped on his nose. “Yes, it is fair because I am the one making our son's birthday breakfast,” You say looking into the camera with a big beautiful smile. The boys and Bruce see your Bruce pick up the camera and record you putting the finishing touches on your Dick’s pancakes. “It’s six a.m love, the kid is still drooling right now” They hear Bruce say behind the camera.“Still Bruce, we need to sing happy birthday first thing in the morning!” your say with a childish whine. While balancing the tray of breakfast food and smiley pancakes in a tray.
Dick feels his throat close up and the need to run away while watching the video. This love that he sees you have for your Dick and the care your Bruce is showing is something he has never experienced since living with Bruce and yet misses. Can you miss something you’ve never had? Because this is definitely how he feels. Dick remembers the touch and love of a mother and watching this just reminds him of the feeling.
The boys watch as Bruce records you opening the door to your Dick’s room and see little dick sleeping with drool on his pillow.“God, he’s going to be embarrassed when he’s older and watches this video” they hear Bruce say with a quiet laugh. You turn and give him a fake stern look and crouch down by Dick’s bed and softly shake him awake. Your Dick slowly opens his eyes and focuses on you. His face instantly lit up and a smile breaks out on his face. “Mom!” he yells out happily pulling the covers back while you set the tray on his lap. Giving him a kiss on the cheek good morning. They hear Bruce laugh and tell Dick happy birthday while giving him an affectionate head shake. The boys and Bruce watch Dick and the two of you sing ‘Happy Birthday’, eat pancakes together, laugh and smile, and basically be a family. The video ends with Dick taking the camera from Bruce and whispering into the lens saying, “This is the best Birthday ever!” with a cheesy smile on his face.
Dick is uncharacteristically silent while everybody looks at him. He finally stands up and takes his CD out putting someone else’s in drawing their attention back to the TV.
*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_
Damian’s POV
This whole thing is ridiculous. Everyone is getting all sappy over a single woman who none of them know. Damian sees this as stupid and it quite frankly makes him angry. He already has a mother. he doesn't need to listen and watch himself with a strange woman.
And yet just like Dick, the anger turns to sadness and he also becomes jealous. Watching another version of himself receive the love and attention that Damian has only seen in movies and read in books. And yet as he watches him and his siblings fight to open presents he is reminded that he is just a kid.
Who just wants a family.
“Everyone! Everyone!” Video you calls out to your children currently fighting for presents. “Because this is Damian’s first Christmas with us he will be opening the first gift,” you say in a tone that makes all your children concede and watch Damian open one of his gifts. As you hand your Damian a gift wrapped in Christmas Robin wrapping and a black bow he immediately dives in and opens it to find a collar. Confused he looks at you and at his father to see you both smiling at him, chuckling. Your Damian watches you leave the room and come back in with a black kitten with white paws in your arms. Damian lets out a loud gasp and runs to you taking the cat in his arms. The camera zooms in on his blinding smile and his small whisper of “Thank you Ummi” to you. The boys and Damian watch as you give him a big kiss on his forehead and Bruce giving him a big hug.
The silence stretches out between the group because everyone knows that in their universe Damian doesn't receive Alfred the cat in such a memorable and sweet way.
Damian especially is just staring at the screen yearning for that motherly love. And a bad thought crosses his mind of what if they just stayed here. Damn the consequences. He wishes for this mom.
*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_
Tim’s POV
Tim’s always been curious and once he saw you giving an affectionate hug to Bruce and the pain that went across your face when his brothers and he looked at you with indifference.
Watching his brother's faces while they watched their home videos he was a little scared of his.
His mother has always been distant and he’s never really experienced motherly love but watching you in the home videos, he’s scared to see you with him and be consumed with jealousy like his brothers. Scared to watch you love a version of himself and not experience that love.
And yet he watches his video and is filled with that feeling anyway.
“Hellooo whoever is watching this home video!” you say with a smile. “It’s probably us sweetheart,” Bruce says popping into the frame. You hurriedly move the camera away from him and talk to the camera. “Ignore him. But today we are at Tim’s school watching him graduate!” you say with a happy squeal and turn the camera to zoom in on Tims's figure clad in his cap and gown, oblivious to your recording him. “Tim is graduating with high honors and receiving multiple awards tonight” the boys and Bruce listen to your Bruce say in an obviously proud tone. The boys watch as multiple names are called and you both politely clapping for every student. And once you hear Tim’s name you both go ballistic. While as ballistic as your Bruce could go by whistling and clapping louder than ever with a proud grin. But for you, you're screaming at the top of your lungs, on the verge of sobbing, shouting “My baby boy!” earning looks from bystanders and laughs from your husband. The video ends with your Bruce recording you giving your Tim the biggest hug and kiss on the cheek while he smiles a bashful smile and celebrates with you and his dad.
Tim’s thoughts run rampant so much that he needs to lie down. He’s never felt this bitter and angry. His Bruce didn't come to his graduation and he’s watching everything he’s ever wanted happen on screen.
It's not right and it's not fair.
Why does your family get you and they don’t?
*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_
Jason’s POV
He already knows what’s going to be on that CD. He knows how he’ll react and he knows that he mentally can’t do that right now. He can’t watch something that he died for (a mother's love) play out in front of him.
He won't do it.
“I’m going to bed” Jason suddenly announces. It's suffocating in the living room and he can’t deal with looking at anybody’s face any longer.
He doesn't stick around for an answer he just goes up to his...other his’s room. He expects to see a room identical to his but once he opens the door he sees a completely different room.
This one looks lived in. Like someone uses it. In his universe, he rarely goes into his childhood room. Too many memories and too many feelings he rather not face. But this room. There are recent pictures of him. Multiple pictures of him and his... family all happy together.
He hurriedly looks away and strips himself of his extra gear and lies on his..or his bed in silence. He feels uncomfortable very weird.
He turns on his side prepared to close his eyes and hopefully not wake up for a long time when he sees it. On his bedside table is a framed photo of you and him. He’s in front of you smiling a cheesy bright smile (missing teeth prominent in the photo) dressed in a Peter Pan costume. Your arms are wrapped around his neck with a beautiful grin on your face dressed in a Tinker bell costume.
It’s so stupid but it makes him smile like a fool because at least a version of himself finally received the love of a mother.
Something he’s yearned for all his life before joker was to have a mother in his life and the thought that he gets that in a different universe is what makes it easy for him to close his eyes and sleep that night.
*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_
Bruce’s POV
Jason just left and the suffocating silence returns.
Bruce sees Dick slowly rise from the couch and tell everybody to go to bed and something about talking more in the morning. He hears his sons rise from the couch sleepily making their way into their rooms and feels Dick linger by the doorway.
“Bruce are....are you going to bed?” he hears the hesitance in his voice and he wonders if Dick was going to ask him a different question but stopped himself.
Isn’t that the relationship they have? Unable to communicate and ask each other what's wrong.
It’s all his fault.
If he wasn’t so scared he could have found Y/N in his life and his family would have been different.
He would have been different.
he finally finds words to answer his son, “I think...I think I'm going to stay up a little while longer.” he says while turning his profile to him.
Bruce hears him whisper a soft “okay” and walks off into his room for the night. He waits until he hears the door close, to get up off the couch and grab the CD labeled ‘Wedding’.
The mere title makes his stomach drop but he’s always been one to emotionally scar himself. He sits back down to watch the video play out. He releases a strangled sigh when he sees himself in a suit and tie.
“What does the Groom to be have to say on this lovely day” a voice Bruce recognizes as Clark says. He sees himself looking at the camera dressed to impress with a small smile on his face rolling his eyes at his friend's tone. “I'm very happy today Clark” the lucky him responds. “Oh yeah! Why might that be you think?” Your Bruce sighs, “Because I'm getting married to the love of my life Clark.” Bruce hears your Clark release an annoying ‘awwww’ that makes your bruce roll his eyes and shoo him off. He watches the video for a while and he sees the whole league there. He sees his friends as Bruce Wayne and Batman all together for you and your Bruce. He watches your friends and your Bruces friends leave sweet heartfelt messages that you both probably watched later. Alfred's message is what makes his throat constrict. “I’ve known Master Bruce since he was a little boy and I can't tell you how happy it makes me to be able to see him finally share his life with the most graceful woman on this planet. Someone who continues to amaze me with her beautiful character and who I think of as a daughter. I am unbelievably happy that my boy has met you and is going to spend the rest of his life with you. I love you both very much.” With tears building in his eyes, he sees Clark open the door to see you in a white dress with a brilliant smile. When you open your mouth to speak is when the video starts to buffer and stop.
Bruce sits up in his seat praying that the video starts to work again when it completely pauses on your face.
The video stopped working.
And maybe that is the breaking point but the tears fall and he drops his head into his hands. Shoulders shaking and gasping for breath he cries. He cries because of the life he could’ve lived. The person he could have lived it with.
He cries for the mother his kids could have had and the presence that could have helped them through their lives. His kids. His wonderful kids deserved that and he hates himself for not giving that to them.
He also hates himself for not letting himself have that.
He doesn't know how but he eventually gets up off the couch and walks to the extra room by Jason’s. He passes your room on the way and just stands in front of it. This is the room you share with him. The other him.
He wonders what it feels like to sleep in another person's arms for years. He never knew he could want something like that.
He doesn't sleep that night. Not even a little bit.
*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_
Y/N’s POV
Waking up today felt like a dream for you. You closed your eyes relishing in the warmth you expected to be there only to feel cold.
Your eyes snap open. Oh yeah, he’s not here.
They’re not here. And yet they are. They are all inside the manor in their rooms but they are not yours. They are not your boys or husband. They are versions of your kids and best friend.
But that doesn't mean you can be weird to them you scold yourself.
This is weird to them too. This woman they’ve never met in their lives claiming to be their mother and wife. You’d be freaked out too.
Right there in your bed, you swear to at least talk to your kids. Even though they are not your kids you could never not love any version of them. Getting ready for the day you walk downstairs to see them all inside the kitchen.
Immediately all their eyes draw to you and you smile at them softly. “Good Morning,” you say to them all, failing to catch Bruce’s eyes. You hear soft greetings back while getting your coffee ready.
“I’ve warmed up the car for you Miss Y/N” you hear Alfred say.
“Oh thank you! I'll be leaving in a few,” you reply back gratefully. You never wake up early enough to do it yourself. Bruce usually does it for you during the cold months.
“Where are you going?” you hear five different voices say all at once. You turn around to see them all looking expectantly at you.
Shocked that they’ve said more than three words to you. It takes you a while to reply.
“Oh, I um I'm going to work in early today, I'm an architect.” The silence and surprise in their eyes is kind of insulting. They must notice you take offense because Dick hurriedly tries to explain their shock.
“Not in an offensive way course. You seem very smart. It’s just being an architect in Gotham City. How do you find work?" he asks.
“Oh well, I usually deal with orphanages and hospitals in the city. And because it’s Gotham those are the most important buildings,” you say with a sad like chuckle.
“so you are not a vigilante?” Damian suddenly asks. The question receives looks from his brothers and father but a laugh just escapes you.
“Oh god no, the only vigilante work I do is cardio and that is enough in itself,” you say with a smart smile. They all give chuckles probably humoring you. Before you're hit with the reminder of leaving for your job
“Shoot it’s seven! I- I gotta go but call if you need anything and.. and if you guys find anything out.” You look to see them all give you a nod and bid you goodbye before you are out the door.
Progress? hopefully.
*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_
Bruce’s POV
It’s been hours since you left and now he and the kids are at league headquarters trying to get back home. And bring your family home. Even though they may not want to leave. As selfish as it is he wants to stay. Even though he knows he’s not yours he would love to feel an ounce of what it's like to be loved by you.
But because he knows you are deserving of the love back he knows he has to get your Bruce back.
Your Barry has been going on and on about the plan he has to travel through the speed force successfully bringing this universe’s bat family back and then taking Bruce’s back to their universe. Everyone crowds around to see him do it. With his boys at his side, he watches the blinding red light zoom back and forth before eventually disappearing.
His family, the league members, and himself wait silently staring out waiting for Barry to come back. To come back with their lucky counterparts.
Bruce holds his breath when he sees Barry coming back and releases it when he sees Barry....with your family. He sees the exact version of his family all release breaths of relief and immediately look for someone.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out who they are looking for.
Finally, it seems like they spot Bruce and his kids cause they all simultaneously tense up and guard their expressions. It’s staggering how alike they both look at that moment but they both know only one of them has you.
 That’s what makes them different.
They all silently watch your family embrace their friends in the league before they walk to Bruce and his children.
It’s that awkward silence again before your Bruce speaks to him.
“How is she?” Three simple words that will stick with Bruce forever.
“She’s okay. The last time we saw her she was just leaving for work.”
Your Bruce just gives him a nod and walks off. Telling his sons he’ll be waiting in the car. Bruce imagines he’s antsy to see you. He would want to speed home if he knew he had someone like you waiting for him.
He’s about to walk back to your Barry to finally go home when your Damian speaks up, “You imbeciles better not have caused any heartache to my mother. Or I will personally ask Allen to take me ba-”
“OKAY! That’s enough of you Damian. Go wait in the car with Dad.” Dick says with his hand pointed to the black car.
“But I wa-”
“Go.” This time it’s Jason and Tim telling him and Damian just rolls his eyes and walks to the car muttering insults under his breath.
Your boys turn back to face Him and his kids, and Dick tries to start up a conversation but it’s too awkward talking to another version of yourself so they bid Bruce and his family goodbye, and they watch them walk to their car. Back home to you.
And once they safely arrive back in their universe it’s weird because they know what they're missing. What they could have had.
You.

Y/N’s POV
Walking into your home your not expecting to be bombarded with hugs.
Not. At. All.
Still expecting for the other version of your family to be home or in the cave.
But you feel multiple familiar arms wrap around your waist and shoulders and you instantly know they’re home.
You almost cry out of relief when they all scream ‘MOM!’ and squeeze you extra tight.
“AHHH my baby birds! I missed you!” You squeal out wrapping your arms (or trying to) all around your boys, kissing them all over their faces, and smothering them in your arms. You feel them loosen up and get a good look at all their faces and the tears start building in your eyes. Gods, you missed them so much. The horrible thought of never seeing them again had you going throughout your day feeling horrible.
You caress the cheeks and kiss all their forehead until they're begging you to stop. and trying to escape. You look down to see Damian still cuddled up to your side and almost melt, you kiss him on the head once more.
You hear all your kids talking at once trying to listen when you see him behind them. You smile with tears running down your cheeks and your kids part away from you and you run toward your husband, crying into his chest and hugging him with all your might. You feel your Bruce instantly wrap his arms tight around your waist and tuck his head into your neck.
“I- I missed you... I missed you so much. So much” you say through tears.
“I know sweetheart. Me too. Me too.” You hear him whisper into your neck and pull his face back.
You look up to see him analyzing every aspect of your face, looking at you like you’re not real.
You instantly wrap your arms around his neck and kiss him and it finally hits you that they are home. That he’s home.
And you can finally breathe again.
BROOO I definitely got carried away lol. AHHH BUT I LOVE IT SO WHO CARES! I've had this in my drafts for months and I'm so excited to finally be posting it. I hope you all ENJOYED! LOVE YOU LOTS! Feedback is always appreciated!! <333

Remember me as small (I fear I've swallowed the sun whole)
comfort came against my will - series masterlist here
Tumblr media
pairing: mentioned dick grayson x reader, platonic bruce wayne x reader
length: 900
genre: fluff, hurt/comfort
warnings: bruce is a sort of father figure to reader, reader kind of has a meltdown, dick is idk downstairs partying while this happens
a/n: soft launching Good Dad Bruce Wayne here before I let y'all have the bruce wayne verse, I think it's nice to read it isn't always easy before this but it's unnecessary

You're standing in Bruce's study when he finds you, drink in one hand while the other stays wrapped around your own waist - like a child clinging to their parent, except the only person you had to cling to was yourself. You don't move when he approaches, quietly closing the door behind him and coming to stand next to you, eyeing where the joint contract of your company's new deal with Wayne Industries sits framed on his wall amongst his various other professional achievements.
"Have I made enough of myself?" you ask quietly, and the tone of your voice sends warnings through Bruce's head. He's heard you like that before - small and scared and tired. Unsure. And you never let yourself be seen as unsure. But he'd seen it a few times, many years ago when he'd first met you, a lost child with your hackles raised too high to let him help you. He didn't like hearing that voice coming from you, especially not now when you were here in his home - somewhere where you should be safe and happy.
"What do you mean, sweetheart?" he prompts gently, tenderly pulling your drink out of your hands and setting it on a nearby table. You look at him with wide, watery eyes and his heart clenches.
"Have I done enough?" you whisper, as if speaking any louder would tear holes in the blanket you've pulled over your emotions. "I'm not small anymore, right? Not like I was. I… I'm bigger now. I'm good now. I grew into something good, right? I made… I made something of myself… didn't I?"
"If you made any more of yourself, sweetheart, you'd outgrow the sun," he whispers back as he takes one of your hands in both of his, flipping it so that your palm is facing up and he can smooth over the tension under your skin with gentle thumbs and soft pressure.
"Do you remember when I was small?" you ask tentatively, keeping your eyes trained on your joined hands while he keeps his own trained on you.
"Yes," he says easily, squeezing your hand in acknowledgement. I'm here, it meant. I'm here and I remember you. "Although you were hardly small, even then. Your heart was so big, you just needed time to grow into it."
"Did I grow up well?" your voice wavers and Bruce pulls you closer to him by your joined hands before placing your palm on his chest over his heart. I'm here. I'm here and I'm real and I remember you. He hopes you can feel that through the beating of his heart.
"You grew up perfectly," he says, conviction clear in his voice. "And I couldn't be more proud." You make a small, wounded sort of sound at that and your breath hitches in a way he knows means you're about to cry. He begins to move to pull you into him but pauses when you brace yourself on your own two feet, determinedly steadying yourself on your own against the tidal wave of your emotions.
"Bruce?" you ask. He hums in response.
"I want to go back to being small." That throws him. Of all the confessions that could have passed your lips, that wasn't one he was expecting. The tears that begin to stream down your face, at least, he's prepared for. "I want to be small again, I - I want to go back to when I was small and you offered to love me and take me in and - and I want to say yes this time." You're really crying now, hot tears streaking your cheeks and your chest heaving. "I should've let you when you offered and it's too late and I just - I want to go back to when I could've been loved because I can do it right this time I can say yes I -"
Bruce stops you then, finally, shushing you gently (but firmly, in that authoritative, fatherly way that he does) and pulls you closer to him so that you can bury your face in his chest and sob into the fabric of his dress shirt. He holds you like that for a good long while, doing his best to soothe you despite the worry that knots in his stomach. This isn't like you, he thinks. He doesn't like seeing you collapse like this. A part of him, though, although guilty, is almost relieved - pleased that you've turned to him instead of managing it on your own. As much as he hates to see you cry, he would always rather be there than turn away from you.
"Listen to me very closely, sweetheart," he says gently, once your sobs have quieted and calmed down to little sniffs and hiccups. You pull away to look at him. "It's not too late," he promises. "You're always home here - always. And I'll always be here. And… and I do love you. I've never been the best at showing it. I'm sure - I'm sure Dick's told you enough about that." You huffed out a laugh.
"Yea, uh, he's mentioned it."
"Yea," Bruce says, shifting his weight. "But, I do love you, and you're just as much my child as the others. I'm sorry I… I'm sorry I didn't realize you needed to hear that sooner. I'm sorry I didn't help more. I thought that maybe letting you keep yourself upright was the best thing to do. I didn't want to push, I - I was so afraid of pushing you away. But I never, ever, wanted you to feel unloved. You're home here, I promise."

Chapter Six: The Summer of a Lifetime
Bruce Wayne x Daughter!Reader
Heiress of Gotham | Previous Chapter
Summary: With things out of the way and perhaps a little more trust, maybe the reader will finally start to make some progress, and a few friends along the way.
Warnings: Spying, Being Spied On, Insects, Wet T-Shirts, Flirting,
Words: 3.6k
A/N: While this chapter may seem like it takes a lot of twists in turns in the vignettes, it's sort of meant to reflect the ups and downs and small moments we have during summer. Honestly, though, this is perfect for the introduction of certain characters and plotlines I wanted! القرف = ‘shit’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It'd been an interesting end to the school year, really, and that's aside from the fact that you'd had to deal with and go through the grief of your Mother passing. Within the few months you'd been at Wayne Manor, the family had quickly learned many things about you. Bruce had found out how frugal and tenacious you are, insistent on selling some of your old articles of clothing for money on some app he could never remember the name of, meanwhile refuting the many attempts he'd offered to take you out shopping. Who wants to go shopping with their Dad anyway? He'd been consumed with work, and therefore more time had been turned over to your brothers.
While school was out for both you and Damian, Tim had decided to take summer classes at the nearby community college since it'd make his college applications only look better. Dick, of course, was still working, and Jason, really, you had no idea what was going on with him since it seemed he had most days free and nights taken. While you'd considered the possibility that someone associated with the Wayne family had a night-time job, you also didn't want to think of someone who very quickly became a big brother to you in that manner. That was just... ew. With the three eldest gone or rarely home, you'd been left with Damian and Alfred mostly.
--------
“So… you’re spying on your own child because…?” Tim draws out, leaning against the motherboard as he crosses his arms over his chest.
“Because it’s Bruce? You’re not the first. Thought you would’ve been the wiser, Green Bean,” Dick chides as he manually stitches another loop into his uniform. Seated on the edge of the metal table propped against the railing on the other side of the platform.
“She’s been watching television for over two hours straight. Is this unhealthy?” The man of the hour speaks, eyes unmoving from the image of you through the lens of one of his pesky drones.
“Hey, you’re the one who’s supposed to be parenting, yeah? You chose to bring her on, you choose what’s healthy and unhealthy,” the elder boy retorts, a clear sass in his tone that reminds Bruce where Damian’s gotten it from.
“Hn,” the old man groans, “That doesn’t mean I know what’s standard in teenagedom as of currently,” he grumbles more to himself than anyone.
“Have you tried, I don’t know, just talking to her?” Tim asks, an eyebrow quirking as he doesn’t try and hide the amused smile breaking across his lips.
“You’re one to talk,” Bruce teases the boy. He’s still somewhat resentful of the way he’d handled things with Stephanie a few years ago now.
A huff of annoyance leaves Tim and he rolls his eyes. Pushing off the computer, he turns to head for the stairs when he spots movement on the monitor. Dick doesn’t seem to care, rather, he’s focused on fixing and upgrading his equipment. However, Tim watches from just a few feet behind the old man’s chair. His drone follows you as you get up, bringing an empty dish and glass to the kitchen. You don’t notice, of course, as Tim knows this has to be one of the nano drones, most likely, disguised as a fly following your movements through the Manor just a few hundred feet above them.
It’s uninteresting, really, the way he watches you put your empty dish in the sink along with your glass. Your visage shifts, heading back to the living room, but doesn’t fail to notice the nano drone. “Spotted,” Tim announces, curious to see where this goes.
“That doesn’t mean anything. Most people aren’t fazed by an insect,” Bruce defends, finally taking his gaze off the screen for a mere moment as he turns to Tim. The boy watches as you step closer to the drone; the still fly on the fridge’s handle was easy to spot, and while your eyes quickly move on in an attempt to seem as if you hadn’t noticed the bug, not wanting to disrupt it or scare it away, you step closer to the fridge.
On top of the box lies an item you’ve been grateful for ever since you’d gotten your Mom to buy it offline. Easily stepping on your tiptoes you grab the object’s handle and have your finger ready atop the trigger. Now all that’s left is to catch it off-guard.
The amused look on Tim’s face makes Bruce paranoid; blue eyes racing back to the monitor, he watches as a tennis-racket swatter comes his way. Lifting the nanodrone up and off the surface he barely escapes the touch of the electric swatter. Bzzt! He’s hit. Flying across the kitchen and landing on the counter, he turns the drone around to get you in frame again. “And you thought she wouldn’t do anything,” Tim laughs. An error message pops up, screen turning red along with the artificial voice alert. Clearly you’ve damaged the drone.
“It only took twenty-five percent capacity,” Bruce announced, clicking different keys to get everything back to neutral.
This elicits Dick’s eyes as his focus shifts up to the situation before him. An amused smile graces his lips and he can’t help but sometimes pity the man. Bruce… tries. He means well, but he doesn’t always have the best approach. “Gotta say, this is better than reality tv.” His Father shakes his head and, attention returning to the monitor again after being distracted by Tim.
“You risked a drone for this? Come on, man. This is your own daughter we’re talking about,” Tim chastises, even if he’s still laughing and more than amused by this. If he wants to waste his tech, by all means, let them watch. It’s not like he can’t get more.
The men watch as you look around the kitchen, eyes taking everything in. With an occasional turn, and a flip of your hair, he’s spotted again! This time Bruce sees you coming before he can be squashed. Out of sight, out of mind, he thinks. “Honestly, I’m just lucky she didn’t spot me earlier. Ace and Titus weren’t the most helpful considering they kept tracking my movements, clueing her in. But she didn’t get me until now.”
“I’m impressed she even got you at all, honestly,” Dick comments, drawing their attention again.
“Not a fan?” Tim asks, curious to hear his thoughts. After all, he hasn’t been around as much considering things have been busy with school, and hectic with Stephanie… therefore, he doesn’t know as much about you. He hasn’t spent as much time around you as the others.
Met with a noncommittal noise, Tim watches Dick shrug. “I’ve got nothing against her aside from what she said at her dinner and obviously her hate for the BPD,” he trails off, a shudder running through him, “then again, she was kind of insane when we were moving her stuff. Threatened to kill us and all. Not really the type of vibe you wanna have running around the house, you know? At least, not mine, I’ll tell you that.” With a chuckle, Dick lifts the needle to his mouth, teeth going for the fabric since he hadn’t bothered to grab scissors.
Tim almost laughs along with his brother, that is until he processes what he’d said. “Wait, what-?!” Eyes quickly darting between him and Bruce, he’s suddenly alert. “What do you mean she tried to kill you?! What’re you talking about? Hey- why didn’t you tell me this?” He zeroes in on Bruce, determined to get an answer. “Does Damian know? Why am I the last one to find out about anything around here?” He complains.
“I mean she tried to-“ Dick begins.
“She did not! Dick, stop exa-“ Bruce interrupts.
“Bruce-“ Tim interjects, eyes suddenly on your approaching visage in the drone’s visual. “Bruce!” You’ve got the fly cornered, with one swift sweeping wack, and a press of the button, it’ll die.
“What?!” He yells. As soon as he turns from Tim to the monitor he’s too late. Zzztt!!! They all grimace and wince. An alert pops up on screen:
‘V I S U A L L O S T’
The options to ‘connect to different device’ or ‘relay input’ lie underneath the big text, but ultimately you’d destroyed the thing. With the click of a button Bruce closes the tab and the background of the Manor’s security camera feeds linger. Alfred dances in the office as he dusts along, presumably, to music—Bruce knows his routine. On another, you’re carrying the nanodrone on the electric swatter to the trash, disposing of the ‘fly’ you’d killed. Lastly, Damian is reading, doing his homework as he sits in an armchair by the fireplace in the Library, Titus curled up by his feet.
“Dammit! This is why you can’t just be in here. You’re either here for a purpose or you’re out,” Bruce dictates. “Dick is actually doing something, Tim. You’re just gossiping.” With a defeated drop of his hands to the desk, he raises himself from his computer chair and rounds Tim.
“You still didn’t tell me what happened,” Tim argues, the anger in his voice no longer hiding. “I’m tired of being out of the loop! What happened?” he demands. A sigh weighs Bruce’s shoulders down, and as Dick finally takes in the men before him, he doesn’t dare to add any more flame to the already burning fire.
“She was involved with Marin. Alright? She thought he was coming for her, momentarily figured we were in on it. Satisfied?” Bruce responds, turning to face the boy.
They all know he’s been hurt. That he has trauma… it’s no secret. Yet, it’s only in few and far between moments that the boys are able to see things for what they are in a crystal-clear view. This is one of those times. Their warped views on good and evil, right and wrong, revenge and punishment… they blur the lines of reality in ways he’s sure that you, a civilian, would never understand, and yet… Tim realizes the weight of this.
“Who-?”
“Angel Marin. Bludhaven’s biggest mob boss,” Dick informs. A ‘Hn’ leaves Bruce’s lips as he makes his way toward the stairs, and a sigh leaves Tim. With a grateful nod in Grayson’s direction, Tim follows after Bruce.
------
“You know, someone mentioned your birthday is coming up,” Bruce teases, a hint of a smile hiding behind his wine glass.
The quick flash of a smile overtakes your face before you try to hide it. None of them miss it. “Um… yeah. W-who said?”
It’s invisible, perhaps, to all besides those who know him best, however, Bruce pales at the question, faltering. While you’re good at reading people, you don’t notice. Whether it’s the subject matter or the way everyone’s staring, you simply wait for a response.
“Uh, the-“ he clears his throat, eyes suddenly downcast as he reaches for his knife and fork to cut his steak, “the social worker! Yes, she mentioned it while you were in your meeting.” Obviously a lie. If anyone truly knows Bruce the way most at the table do, they'd know he found it in your files and footprint.
“Oh,” you respond, putting on a fake smile as you too attempt to hide behind the meal. Birthdays can be a big deal for some, and others, not. It all depends, and you aren't sure where things lie in this family. You still feel like an outsider, despite their attempts, and you don't want to burden them further.
“We could have a party!” Damian suggests, to everyone’s surprise.
“You just want a party,” Jason comments with a chortle.
“Is there anything you want?” Dick asks, looking down at you from your side, putting you on the spot. His kind blue eyes stir something within you, and you turn your gaze back to your plate. Busying yourself by cracking your knuckles, your lips purse into a line. With a shake of your head, it’s clear no one is sated.
“There’s nothing you want? At all?” Bruce prods, eliciting your eye contact again. Lips pursing even more you shake your head again.
“Um,” eyes falling to your lap you collect yourself, not allowing your imagination to run wild. “You taking me in was enough. Thank you.” Voice quiet, everyone has their own reaction to your words, albeit unbeknownst to you.
“Oh, shut up! You know there’s at least one thing you want,” Jason teases from across the table.
“Oh? And what’s that since you know her so well?” Tim pries, knowing he’s setting his brother up. Jason hesitates, almost choking on his drink which elicits laughs from the boys, and an amused smile from Bruce. As bickering starts to ensue, you decide.
“I-“ all eyes turn to you, “I want a party!” You announce. With a confident smile, you figure, how bad could it be? After all, parties don't need to be big! Something sweet, the family there, and a boardgame is all you'd need for it to be considered a party to you.
“See? At least I know what she wants,” Damian chides proudly.
“Oh? Well what kind of party would you like?” Bruce asks.
“Who do you want to invite?” Dick inquires.
“What’s the theme?” Jason adds.
“Actually, isn’t your birthday coming up now that I think of it?” Tim voices his concern over to Jason.
“Uh…” Jason shakes his head a little, taken aback, “I mean, I don’t really celebrate anymore since-“
“-the same day as Alfred’s, that’s right,” Bruce saves them, an unfazed smile on his lips, “though I believe we can celebrate both, can’t we?” While you’re not exactly paying attention, to the rest of them there’s a silent, yet menacing request behind his eyes. It’s clear they’re not allowed to speak freely anymore, no matter your new seat at the table of their family.
“Okay, but mine comes first- or did you forget again?” Damian asks with a bite. Upon the silence, he rolls his eyes and goes back to his meal with the exasperated sound of his breath hitting his tongue against his teeth. An audible ‘Tt’ sound.
“I didn’t forget, Damian,” Bruce clenches his jaw and grips his glass a little tighter. Does every family dinner have to turn into a fight? “You know I was with the-“ he catches himself, “Hn- that I had to-“
“-business calls… we’re well aware, Father. Perhaps you’ll do yourself a favor and won’t miss your other child’s birthday,” Damian finishes the conversation. “Not that I count on it.”
--------
Walking through the pool room, you’re focused on texting Daisha, intent on telling her the good news!
‘Omg you’ll never guess what just happened! I’ll ha-‘
Splash!
A dissatisfied exclamation escapes your lips as you stare at the wet stain on your shirt. “Really?! Dam-“ looking up from your drenched navy tank top, your eyes widen and lips part.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry! I thought you were Damian.”
You quickly take in the super-soaker and the boy’s apologetic expression, and it’s easy enough to put two and two together. As footsteps quietly click against the tiled floors of the locker rooms leading toward the pool deck, you grab the boy’s hand and drag him back the way he’d come around the corner. There lies a linen closet between the pool, laundry room, and stairwell. With a swift hand, you open the door and shove him in, following after as you quietly shut the door.
A bemused smile appears on his lips as his eyebrows furrow. “You’re his sister,” he whispers with certainty, “I’m Billy.”
Whispering back your name, he repeats it. Visibly eager on saying something else, you place your fingers on his lips to shut him up. He follows your eyesight, both of you staring through the slats in the closet door. With a keen ear, he gets the gist and remains quiet. As moments pass, you can feel the boy staring; curious, you meet his gaze only to find him searching your eyes. You can’t help but notice how pretty his are. Though you almost get swept up in admiring his features, you hear a faint creak only meters away; with a motion of your other hand, you beckon him to hand you the gun.
Transferred into your open hand, you slowly remove your fingers from his lips, cupping the barrel of the super-soaker while the other wraps around the handle, fingers ready at the trigger. With a head nod toward the door, you mouth the words: ‘On three! Ready?’
Billy seems to understand, as he holds his hands up in a ready stance to push open the doors. Together, you both mouth the countdown (which is really a count up, but anyway): ‘One… Two…’
“THREE!” Busting out of the closet, Damian is just a few feet from your right. It’s easy to spin and shoot as you’d been prepared, having watched him walk past the door together. Your brother had jumped, yet shot a few instinctive rounds of water, splashing both you, Billy, and the wall.
“القرف! What the hell! What are you doing here? Who let you play?” Damian curses, holding his gun in a stationary position once you’ve all recovered from the attack. His suspicious green eyes narrow as they dart between the two of you.
“I figured it was only fair since you didn’t let me know about your little game and I got caught in the crossfire,” you reason, pointing to your shirt with the gun.
“I accidentally shot her thinking I had you cornered, so…” Billy’s words die on his tongue. Without sparing the kid a glance, you shove the super-soaker back in his hands before offering him a grateful smile. At least you’d hit Damian once, you figure. With that, you’re more than happy to abandon the boys to their games as you walk toward the laundry room to see if your clothes are finished drying.
“You didn’t tell me she was my age!” You head Billy yell before a series of exclamations and curses follow with the sound of splashing water and rapidly receding footsteps.
--------
As stupid as it was to find your thoughts continuing to drift back toward a certain brown hair, green-eyed boy, you couldn’t help it. Though you’ve grown more tolerable of one another over the past few months, you still can’t believe that one of Damian’s friends is who’s on your mind. Nevertheless, fate would seem to have an amusing time linking the two of you together, constantly running into the other.
You suppose it isn’t strange after all, especially when considering he is one of Damian’s friends… however, you find him over the at Manor more and more often after the initial first time he’d quite literally bumped into you.
--------
“Grab me a juice box? I forgot one too—“ Damian’s voice echoes throughout the theatre as Billy yells back an affirmative answer and heads back toward the kitchen.
“Oh, hey-" You greet, backing up as a familiar figure exits the home theatre.
“Hey- what’s up?” Billy asks, a friendly smile gracing his lips.
"Was just gonna get a snack before we start," you tell him, "Guess we're headed the same way then," you tease. Walking down the hallway and up the stairs to the kitchen, you're aware of your brother's friend just a few steps behind.
“Are you gonna watch with us?” Billy asks hopefully.
“I mean, if that’s okay, yeah, I was planning on it." You respond, not thinking about it too much. After all, you want this popcorn to be good, not a burned pile of charcoal.
“Oh, I didn’t mea-“ Billy goes to correct himself.
“It’s fine. I’ll be down in a minute, I’m just making my own popcorn because the boys would eat it all otherwise,” you joke. Surely since he's friends with Damian he knows what the guys are like.
“That’s smart- that way you don’t have to share and keep passing it back and forth the whole time.” Billy adds on.
“Yeah. Do you want some? I can make another little packet,” You offer.
“Sure! I can do it though, you don’t have t-“ He argues.
“-I don’t mind! I've gotta wait for it anyway and grab some bowls. So I'll see you down there!" With that reassurance, Billy offers you one last smile before taking the juice boxes downstairs.
The older boys and your Father had insisted you pick the movie considering it's your first movie night with the family, and while most of them had been dreading what genre you'd pick, everyone ended up excited to watch a classic comedy most of them hadn't seen in years. Snuggled up under the fluffy blankets with your popcorn and the laughs of your brothers all around, you couldn't help but enjoy the fun.
--------
Most of the summer felt like it was spent in your room. Whether it was trying to explore the things that truly make you happy, or being lonely in a place that still feels entirely all too unfamiliar despite the fact that it's been a couple months.
The material things did help at first, the new environment, the little gifts your Father and brothers would treat you to, like those little Squishmallows you'd always seen and wanted at the store, but never bought yourself. They were more expensive than you'd ever thought to casually pay. Nevertheless, you've started to make your room truly your own. With decorating, personalizing, and getting into your own sort of routine, it seems that everyone has been slowly becoming used to this new lifestyle.
Alfred insisted that as summer begins to come to a close, you all decide on either making time for a vacation, or perhaps you and Damian get involved in extra curriculars. In the sake of preparation for school, you'd taken up driving lessons as you'll soon be old enough to begin the process of obtaining your permit. Then there was also the announcements from the school you'll be attending in the fall; with sports and clubs gearing up for homecoming, tryouts were coming up. Your Father had insisted that Damian consider a sport this year, and Alfred equally has been trying to push you in any sort of direction that'll lead to getting you out of the house and your room.
Needless to say, he wouldn't let go of the idea that your mental health could use less isolation and more friends, hobbies, and pursuance of your 'passions' even if you're not entirely sure what those are yet. It didn't take long for you to succumb to your butler (essentially) grandpa's badgering. Though you have a plan in mind for what sport you'll be trying out for, you haven't revealed them to the family. The way they seem to share everything is... still new, and somewhat unsettling to you.

Arthur's notes! Tyler is Jason's, and Isabel(who's deceased) son by blood.
After their engagement Jason and Y/N take things slow after finding out Jason has a, son from a, past relationship.
Tumblr media
Isabel and Jason dated a few months after he had joined the outlaws. At the time he was lonely, he missed Y/N but he was afraid of her reaction that he was alive. Had she moved on?.. Though laying next to Isabel, made him feel guilt that wasn't needed.. Because Y/N and him weren't even a couple. At least since the Lazarus brought him back. Though as soon as Isabel found out he was Red-Hood, they broke-up. Truthfully he was glad they did given it wasn't fair for them to be together, when his heart would always be missing Y/N.
5 year's later Jason holds the little boy who instantly clung to his Dad. His baby boy. His little boy. His mom died 9 months ago in a, car accident. He was contacted, as he was Tyler's biological father. Isabel never told him she was pregnant. He did care about her but not as near as deeply as he did for Y/N.
Everyone was naturally shocked meeting the adorable little boy. Bruce could barely keep his heart calmed as, Tyler looked just like his dad.. Like his own son. What made Jason feel a mountain of relief.. Was Y/N's unwavering support.
The engaged couple decided to take things very slow. She was introduced to Tyler and instantly felt adoration for the little boy who looked just as the man she loves.
With a batch of cookies she made. Y/N headed to Jason's for dinner. She knocks on the door to his new house. They hadn't moved in together, not wanting to overwhelm Tyler. Jason opens the door while holding Tyler.
"hey babe. You're an angel" he smiled seeing she brought cookies.
"hey Jason. Hey Tyler" she greets waving to the little boy
Tyler waves back which reassured Y/N he was warming up to her. Do to at first he was very shy when he met her.. Though her kindness to him and her motherly love. Healed more grieving pain to the little boy, than she knew. He adored her. She felt her heart warm as Tyler smiled to her. As Jason let her in he shuts the door.
Y/N puts the cookies on the table and lifts the lid. Jason put his very excited son down onto the ground. Tyler excitedly ran and sat on the chair with a wide smile on his face. Jason kisses her sweetly.
"thank you" he smiled softly to her. She hugs him tightly. "just one for now. You can have another after dinner" Jason told his little boy
Tyler nodded to his dad. Jason was overcome with admiration for Y/N. Her support made him feel secure that he was being a, good dad and she will always be here for him. She was genuinely making this so much easier.
"I love you" she kisses his temple
"I love you too" he mumbled resting his cheek on her forehead.
Tyler smiled eating a cookie "thanks Y/N" he said munching on the cookie
"you're welcome" she chuckled "he's so cute. He looks just like you" she mumbled
"yeah, you're gonna be a great mom. You know that?" Jason proudly said.
She softly smiled to him with love in her eyes by his words that were simple but felt profound "thank you for saying that"
"I mean it, and a baby who looked like you would be very cu--" she shoved at his chest playfully
"don't say another word! I don't want you getting any ideas too soon Mr" she exclaimed becoming flustered.
He shrugged "I'm just stating a fact. Besides it's not my fault your blushing" Jason smirks playfully
"shhh" she mumbled covering his lips with her finger.
Y/N put on a movie for Tyler and went to the kitchen to help Jason make dinner. Even though he didn't need much help, considering he was a really good cook. Thanks to Alfred.
The couple sat with Tyler while eating dinner together. Jason loved moments with her and Tyler, doing the simplest things. It had become routine for Y/N to come for dinner every night. It made him feel whole however it hurt every time she left. Though it gave him comfort it wouldn't stay that way.
As everyone enjoyed their cookies. Tyler blinks a few times. He yawns rubbing his, little eyes. Jason rubs his head soothingly.
"I think it's time we get you to bed munchkin" Jason cooed to Tyler.
"noooo" he whined "I don't want to"
"I know it's hard but you gotta get some good sleep" Jason said
"your Dad's right. You'll feel better if you get some sleep and tomorrow we'll have fun" Y/N smiled to Tyler..
"can you bring cookies?" Tyler asked grinning
She chuckled "sure kiddo. Or I can make them here? You can help me?"
"yes please!!" Tyler excitedly said while clapping
"ok kiddo time for bed. Tell Y/N goodnight"
Tyler gets up from his chair he holds his Dad's arm leaning him down. He whispered in Jason's ear. His dad smiled in adoration to his sweet little boy.
"Y/N would you like to join us for bedtime story?" Jason asked her
Y/N smiled her heart warming that Tyler wanted her to come with them.
"I'd be honored"
Y/N and Jason laid down in the small bed with Tyler snuggled between them. The lights were with the lamp on for a, source of light. Jason read the children's book out loud. He spoke softer as Tyler's eyes slowly close. Jason reaches over placing the book on Tyler's nightstand.
Carefully Y/N leaves the bed and stands. She waits for Jason by the door. The vigilante acted as though he was handling a ticking bomb. He carefully leaves the bed and adjusted the blanket on his son. He kisses Tyler's forehead and turns the lamp off.
The two step out Jason leaves the door cracked incase Tyler as a, nightmare. He rarely did but it made Jason feel better to know he could hear him more easily if he does.
"it's like dealing with a bomb" he whispered
"is it bad that I know exactly what you mean" she chuckled
The couple reside to Jason's room for adult time. Jason pampers her with affection. His heart feels whole and yet he couldn't stop thinking how much he hated she couldn't stay.
"what do you think about going ahead and planning for the wedding?" Jason asked kissing her jawline
"already? Are you sure? I mean so soon" she asked wanting Jason to be sure he was ready unveil all of the planning and preparation.
He rubs her cheek with his thumb "I am. So is Tyler. He keeps asking me when are you coming. He adores you Y/N. We both do" he smiled kissing her lips "I am tired of waiting for us to be a official family. I want your home and my home to be the same.. I'm ready for this"

Reviving Love
Jason Todd x Reader Chapters AO3
Chapter 9
Jason found Roy on his couch when he entered his apartment. The redhead was laid back watching some Friends re-run and perked up upon Jason’s entering. Almost immediately he asked how it went with you the day before, and Jason, almost excitedly, rehashed all that had happened.
“So, where are you two going,” Roy asked as soon as his friend was done.
Jason shrugged, flipping through a sudoku book he had picked up before throwing it onto the table. “She kind of left it open-ended. I think she wants me to decide.”
“You should take her to that play they’re putting on at the park. I think it’s, uh…some Shakespeare one, I don’t know,” Roy said, picking up the disregarded book, looking at it, and then throwing it back down. “Didn’t you say your first date with her in high school was at a play?”
“Something like that,” Jason said.
He remembered your first date, he was a sweaty mess and stuttered from how nervous he was for half the night. You, on the other hand, seemed so relaxed. Jason had wondered if that was you just being you, or if you had accepted the date out of kindness instead of liking him. It wasn’t until the end of the night, when the two of you had snuck out to the football field, that you finally let your guard down enough to nervously ask Jason for a kiss. It was then that he realized that maybe you had internally freaked out the entire time while he did so outwardly. The two of you had knocked your teeth together when going in, awkwardly pressing your lips together since neither knew fully what to do. The memory was sweet.
He wondered if you had the same fond memory of that night. The thought was cut short when Roy threw a pillow at him, pointing down to Jason’s phone on the table, before demanding that he text you now.
Almost instantly, he did, and Roy was enthralled. “Honestly, I think I could be a matchmaker.”
Jason snickered, “No, for all our sakes, stick to your day job. Also, technically, Dick is the matchmaker.”
“Oh? Should we call him then?” Roy started to take out his phone. Jason could not have gotten up fast enough to snatch it from his friend’s hand. “Guess that decided that, then.”
Jason rolled his eyes, slightly annoyed, but didn’t say anything. He was too focused on asking you about the play. As soon as the text was sent, Jason looked up to see Roy staring at him excitedly.
“So, should we go buy condoms now or…”
“Roy,” Jason sternly said, trying to hide his embarrassment.
“Hey, don’t worry, I’m sure she won’t mind that you're a virgin.”
“Roy!” Jason swung the pillow full force at his friend, who managed to miss it by mere inches. The redhead rolled over laughing, remarking how he shouldn't be so nervous for his first time. Maybe Dick would have been a better choice to go to for advice, Jason thought.
Jason wondered how he would tell Dick about you—If he would in the first place. In a way, he felt that his brother needed to know. After all, it was Dick who got him thinking about you again. Not only that, it wasn’t outright planned, but they were slowly drifting closer to having the relationship they should have before he died. Jason loved it, though would not say it aloud. Things were still rough with the rest of the family, but he knew that, at the end of the day, he could rely on Dick.
Just as he thought about calling his brother, Jason’s phone rang. Looking down, he noticed that it was your face on the screen. Before he left yesterday, you had given him your number and took a quick snapshot for a contact photo. Quickly, he answered it.
“H-hello?” Jason’s stutter caught Roy’s attention, making the man break out into a wide grin. Silently, the redhead inched over to try and hear what you were saying, though Jason tried his best to distance himself without making it obvious.
“Hey, I just got your text, but I’m walking right now,” You said, breathing heavily into the phone. You must have been returning home from work. “I would love to go to that play. I think it’s Much Ado About Nothing, right?”
“Oh, um, maybe—A friend recommended it,” He said quickly. Roy smirked, leaning closer, managing to miss Jason’s attempt to swat at him.
You hummed, thinking, before going on. “How about this weekend?”
“Yeah, yeah, that sounds great.” Jason didn’t know if he had any plans for the weekend, but he’d clear anything for you.
“Fantastic,” You said, and he thought that was the end of the call. Just as Jason was about to say goodbye you started to talk again. “Oh, um, Jason?”
“Yeah?”
“Do you…This might be a little forward—I’m sorry, it seems like it’s becoming a habit,” You laughed nervously. “Do you want to come over tonight for dinner? I’m making some type of pasta I saw on TV and need someone to try it.”
Roy nodded excitedly, making gestures of kissing and some other much more obscene ones that Jason turned his back to. Jason’s heart felt like it was fluttering in his chest, so he quickly said yes. Unbeknownst to you, he heard you sigh in relief before telling him the time to come over and hang up.
“So, about those condoms.” Roy didn’t move in time and felt Jason’s hand lightly hit him on the side of the head.

Knocking
Summary: Steve meets your dad.
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Wayne!Reader
Tumblr media
Steve Rogers standing next to you with your fingers intertwined. There’s a bit of nervousness between the two of you. You looked at his eyes and he looked at yours. He open his mouth to say something but the front door opened up.
“Y/n,” your dad said poking his head out.
“Daddy,” you said looking at him a bit startled.
“Will you please knock?” He asked softly. “I’ve been waiting for nine minutes and thirty three seconds.”
“Okay,” you said with a nod.
He shut the door carefully. Steve looked at you. You raised a fist and knocked on the door. Your dad opened the door and immediately glared at your Steve.
“Dad—,” you said.
He pulled you inside slamming the door shut. He wrapped his arms around you and held you tightly.
“I’ve missed you so much,” he admitted.
“I’m sorry I haven’t been coming around,” you said.
“It’s okay, sweetheart,” he said. “Working at Stark Industries can be a lot which is why you should come to Wayne Enterprise.”
“I’ve still got some things to learn,” you said.
“I know,” he said. “And I’m proud of you.”
“I know you are and- and Steve’s still outside,” you said looking to the front door.
“When I said I wanted you to be with a nice man, I didn’t mean Captain America,” your dad said.
“What can I say? I’m a Wayne- I’ve got game!” you grinned as your dad let go.
“Sure you do,” he said. “If you’ll excuse me-.”
“You have to intimidate the boyfriend, got it,” you said stepping away.
Your dad opened the door and turned on the big mean Bat facade. It made you grin as he stepped outside shutting the door behind him.
Once the door opened again, your dad had bit of a genuine smile on his face. Steve seemed a bit relieved stepping inside the manor.
“Oh good, you didn’t run away,” you smiled taking Steve’s hand.
“Why would I?” Steve asked.
“You think he was easy? You should meet my siblings,” you said.
Bruce snorted and said, “let’s go eat. I’m sure Alfred isn’t too happy waiting on us.”
“He’s the one who keeps bringing you lunch, right? Your grandfather,” Steve said looking at you.
“Yes,” you smiled.
Bruce even smiled.

thinking about your first christmas as a family after bruce adopts dick grayson.
bruce is nervous because every christmas since becoming batman has been piss poor. there’s been no big dinners because it’s just been himself and alfred for so long. gifts were exchanged not on christmas morning but left on beds and desks and in elevator shafts because the holidays were such a strange time for the two of them without thomas and martha around. sometimes it was easier to give each other the space. alfred always left the fireplace on for when bruce would get home from holiday patrol, perhaps with a cup of hot cocoa just the way he liked it left on the hearth, always suspiciously steaming as if alfred had stayed up until bruce got back to leave it there.
then you come along and there’s dinner again, and sometimes bruce is even home some of the day to celebrate with you. the tree comes out of storage and you add a novelty ornament to it every year because the others are all for show and it just doesn’t make the tower feel like home. bruce bakes with you, stealing fudge from your mixing bowl. you almost (almost!) get to send him off with tinsel around his cowl ears and jingle bells on his belt. warmth is returning to gotham in december with you around.
but then dick comes along and everything is different! bruce doesn’t really realize it until he takes dick out shopping for a winter coat and an employee gives dick a candy cane on the way out, but it’s going to be christmas soon and he hasn’t planned anything. he’s been fine with the way things are for so long that he hadn’t realized that dick is still young, that christmas is still something to look forward to, that he’s a father now.
you walk in one day and bruce is stringing lights around the fireplace with dick running around the tree, wrapping it in ribbon and tinsel. bruce hoists dick up to put the star on the tree and they both nearly knock the whole thing over. dick hangs christmas wreaths in the batcave, super glues a bright red rudolph nose on the hood of the batmobile, builds gingerbread houses with little gingerbread bruce and you holding hands while gingerbread dick beats a gingerbread bad guy with a peppermint carved into a batarang. it sits very proudly in the kitchen. you’ve never seen bruce so flustered before. alfred has never seen the tower so badly decorated. he loves it.
on patrol, you lament about how cold dick must be in his robin costume and force him into leg warmers and a sweater, even as he whines about how it’s never bothered him before. bruce watches as you tug a hat over dick’s hair, tucking the little black strands underneath and placing your warm hands to dick’s flushed cheeks. you warn them both that if they don’t stay warm, you’ll be restricting their vigilante privileges. the boys just share a look because they know you really mean it.
you worry so much when they’re out together. try as you might to pretend to be asleep once bruce settles in beside you, you always sneak out of bed to check on dick before returning to your room. bruce pretends he’s too exhausted to notice and just pulls you closer.
dick gets you two out of the tower, too! bruce takes you both ice skating in gotham square, stumbling around on his skates like a 6′1, beefy newborn dear as you and dick skate circles around him and laugh (you really don’t mean to embarrass him so bad that he skates over to a bench and pouts for ten minutes, but you and dick convince him to skate between the two of you until he can stand on his own).
the snow in gotham is dirty, but that doesn’t stop dick from initiating snowball fights with you when you go out past the city lines. bruce takes the two of you to an old family friend’s estate and catches you two from the window pelting each other with handfuls of snow like your lives depended on it, and you bet your asses he’s coming for blood when he meets you both out there. none of you are dressed for getting covered in snow and alfred gives a very stern talking to you three by the front door when you get home.
and when christmas morning comes, bruce feels his heart clench as dick throws himself on top of you and bruce’s sleeping bodies in bed, begging you both to get up so he can open presents already. alfred stands by the bedroom door with this fond look on his face, mumbling something about how “familiar” this all was.
dick loves every single gift you guys give him. he runs off to his room to play with his new toys and video games the minute you let him. by the end of dinner, dick is passed out on the couch with a full stomach, so bruce laughs and takes a few pictures to tease him before scooping him up to take him to bed. it isn’t until dick is tucked under his sheets that it really hits him: he loves this kid. he’s got a family now. he’s going to do everything in his power to protect it. he gets misty-eyed at the thought that it’s his turn now, something that seemed so far out of his mind ten years ago.
he’s still kneeling by dick’s bedside when you come in and wrap your arms around his shoulders, pressing a kiss to his hair, “dick left us a gift. wanna come see?”
it’s a little foreign to him when bruce first sees it. he’d seen it maybe a few times at christmas parties at boarding school, almost always managing to evade getting dragged underneath it save for the few times he’d been given a sloppy, eggnog-spiked kiss by a classmate.
you stand under the mistletoe hanging from the lowest arch in the house (probably the only one dick could reasonably reach), giggling conspiratorially.
“was this your idea?” he accuses, slinking closer to the plant but not quite giving in just yet.
“dick wanted me to tell him about some christmas traditions and picked this one out. he’s never had a traditional christmas before, ya know?”
“and did he already get his kiss?”
“a big, embarrassing one right on the forehead from me AND alfred. he’s had his fill of this tradition, I think.”
bruce can’t help but laugh. he’s so full of warm food and joy. he’s happy dick’s happy. he’s happy you’re happy. he’s so happy. “can’t say the same for myself.” he cups his hands on either side of your throat and grins, breath scented from the candy cane he’d been sucking on after dinner. he kisses you and the mint passes to your tongue, a cool contrast to the feverishness of his mouth. he hadn’t felt this warm in years.

Bruce Wayne as your Dad HC'S
Honestly, Alfred is the only reason CPS hasn't shown up yet
It's not that Bruce is an abusive father, it's just that it's a little suspicious that you, Y/N Wayne haven't been to school in 4 months
Probably because you've been fighting supervillains with 3 hours of sleep after playing some red dead
Always getting pissed at Bruce for being overprotective of you whenever you go out on dates
Like don't you have women over nearly every night? You get your genes from someone
Sleeping on the complete other side of the manor when you're mad at him
Sneaking out to go hang with YJ or the Titans cuz you're bored
You're the 4th eldest, Damian still being the younger sibling but you don't bully him because you're afraid of him
You spending nights in Blüdhaven with Dick when you're mad at Bruce
But at the end of the day, He's your dad and you love him
Even if he monitors you 24/7

Another Life
Father of Mine – Masterlist
Tumblr media
disclaimer: i haven't written in like...a year. and i barely proof read this. so apologies if it's absolute shit. warning: a lot of dark themes, death, familial drama, overall depressing stuff
“What the hell is going on?” Y/N asked Dick as Alfred helped her take off her coat.
Jason was close behind her.
When Dick called Y/N in the middle of the night, he knew something terrible had happened. And he wasn’t about to let her go to the manor by herself.
“I’m sorry,” Dick immediately blurted out. “I didn’t have time to explain over the phone.”
Y/N swallowed. “What happened to him?”
‘Him’ being Bruce.
“He was hallucinating or something,” Dick explained quickly. “And he won’t snap out of it. But he kept saying your name over and over again.”
“So what the fuck can she do about it?” Jason snapped at him.
But Y/N gripped his arm, silently telling her boyfriend to calm down.
Dick also glared at him. “He kept saying he was sorry. I thought maybe if he saw you – saw that you were OK – then maybe he’d calm down.”
“Take me to him?” Y/N asked Dick carefully.
He nodded. “Follow me.”
Together, the three of them swiftly walked to Bruce’s bedroom. And Y/N suddenly realized she’d never been in there before. It always felt off limits. Bruce was such a private person, she figured she shouldn’t invade such a personal and intimate space.
It was cozier than Y/N expected. But that was probably Alfred’s doing. The man stressed about his master getting enough sleep that he had no choice but to design a bedroom that constantly tempted Bruce with comfort and rest.
Now Y/N stared at the sickly man that laid in bed and it felt like different person than the Bruce Wayne she had become so close with.
His face was pale and sweaty. His eyes were bloodshot. His hair was matted down from perspiration that wouldn’t stop gathering on his face.
Y/N took a small step toward her father and whispered, “Bruce?”
The sound of her calling his name seemed to snap him out of whatever daze he had just been in.
Bruce slowly sat up and looked at Y/N as if he didn’t fully believe he was seeing clearly.
“Y/N?” His voice shook.
“You said he couldn’t snap out of it,” Jason muttered quietly to Dick.
“He-He wasn’t. This is the most lucid he’s been.”
Y/N slowly stepped closer to the bed. “Bruce, can you tell me what happened to you?”
Jason’s instincts were going haywire. He blinked himself awake and quickly walked forward, holding out his arm to stop Y/N from going any further.
When Y/N glared up at him, Jason just said, “I don’t trust him when he doesn’t seem like himself. Better safe than sorry. Don’t get any closer.”
She knew Jason had a point, but that didn’t mean she liked it.
So, she turned her attention back to her father. “Bruce,” she called to him softly. “What happened? What can we do to help?”
But Bruce zoned out, trying to dig into his mind to properly answer the question.
“Was it a curse?” Dick asked.
Bruce snapped out of it when he heard the word ‘curse,’ and locked eyes with Dick.
“It was a sorcerer. Not a curse. Something else.”
“It looks like you had some sort of fever dream – but dialed up to a thousand,” Jason observed aloud.
“Not a fever dream,” Bruce corrected. “A vision.”
“Vision?” Dick and Y/N said in unison.
Bruce nodded as he stared into Y/N’s gaze. “If you and I had met sooner.”
Y/N’s brow wrinkled. “How much sooner?”
“As a child,” Bruce confirmed.
———
Bruce was pacing around the foyer.
Alfred watched from the doorway with his hands folded properly in front of him. “This is not the first time you have taken in a child, Master Wayne.”
Bruce stopped long enough to say, “This is…different.”
“Because she is your child?” Alfred challenged.
“Because she is my daughter,” Bruce snapped back. “A daughter that was kept a secret from me for 10 years.”
“Yes,” Alfred hummed. “But I think we both understand that it was probably best.”
“Not anymore,” Bruce argued. “Not when she’s being sent to live with a father she’s never known. And after her mother and grandparents were killed in a car crash that she miraculously survived.”
Before Alfred could respond, Bruce saw the cop car pull up.
“They’re here,” he muttered and then going to the main entrance before they could ring the doorbell.
Bruce walked onto the gravel of the front drive as the car pulled to a stop.
Detective Gordon stepped out of driver’s seat. Such an errand was below his payroll, but it appeared the man was good with kids – especially ones who’d gone through trauma.
“Mr. Wayne,” he greeted.
“Gordon,” Bruce nodded back. He suspected the man knew who he was in his other life, but it seemed neither of them would ever acknowledge it.
“Where is she?” Bruce asked when he saw no one else in Gordon’s car.
“Right,” Gordon nodded as if he was expecting the question. “I wanted to speak with you about that. She…uhh…isn’t speaking with anyone.”
Bruce frowned. “What do you mean?”
“She’s on her way with the social worker,” Gordon clarified. “But she hasn’t spoken a word to anyone – not doctors, paramedics, cops, nurses. No one.”
Bruce nodded, somehow understanding. “Right.”
“Docs say it’s selective mutism. Very common in children who have been through traumatic experiences.”
Bruce nodded again. But then his eyes narrowed. “Why are you here, Gordon?”
“Just making sure you’re up for this.”
“I’m her father.”
Gordon huffed. “That you are. But when a mother keeps her daughter a secret from her own father for 10 years, you can’t help but be concerned about why.”
Now Bruce was irritated. “And what about the two boys I’ve fostered and adopted? Does that count for nothing?”
“You and I both know this situation is different, Mr. Wayne.”
“Is it?” Bruce was so offended, that he saw himself contradicting the conversation he’d had with Alfred just moments ago. He was allowed to question himself as a father, but no one else was allowed to – apparently.
Suddenly another car pulled up.
“That’ll be Y/N with the social worker,” Gordon sighed.
He didn’t know what he expected to come from challenging Bruce Wayne. The man clearly had a soft spot for kids. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have taken in two boys. But much of Gotham found it a little strange for a billionaire playboy in his 20s to adopt not one, but two young boys.
Bruce’s heart raced when he saw Y/N step out of the car, gently guided by the social worker.
As soon as she saw Bruce, her entire body tensed. She stopped walking forward as soon as she reached Gordon and stepped into his side for protection.
Bruce slowly kneeled, hoping that getting on her level would make him less intimidating and more welcoming. “Hello, Y/N. I am so sorry for what happened to you. But we are happy and relieved to have you here.”
Y/N eyed him cautiously. She knew better than to trust a stranger.
But she then looked up at Gordon, waiting for his OK to do so.
Gordon kneeled too, and gently gripped her shoulders. “You are going to be OK here.” Then his hand went into the inside pocket of his jacket and pulled out a card. “If anything happens or you just don’t feel safe here, you call me. OK, kiddo?”
Y/N nodded and hugged the card to her chest like a lifeline.
Then she continued forward, but walked right past Bruce without even so much as looking at him.
Bruce sighed.
And turned to find Alfred greeting her politely. “Hello, little miss. How about I show you to your room and you can get settled?”
Bruce should’ve expected this. After all, Dick wasn’t all that different when he first arrived to Wayne Manor. Not to mention Bruce could probably understand what Y/N was going through more than anyone else.
“All her things are in the trunk,” the social worker told Bruce.
“That’s it?” Bruce questioned when there were only a few boxes and two suitcases.
The social worker nodded and shrugged. “It was a small apartment.”
–––––––
“Is she here?! Is she here!?” Jason was jumping up and down when he burst into the manor after school.
Bruce sighed and shushed the boy with, “Calm down, Jaylad.”
Jason had been ecstatic at the prospect of another kid his age being at the manor – especially one that wasn’t raised rich like him.
“Where is she?” Jason asked as his eyes raced around the room, like he expected the girl to be glued to Bruce’s side.
Bruce kneeled down. “Jason, I think we’re going to have to give her some time. She’s not really…speaking with anyone.”
Jason frowned at the idea.
But then the boy’s eyes brightened at an idea. “Well…maybe she’s just scared! Maybe if I show her around and make sure she knows she’s safe here. Then-Then she’ll like it here.” He looked at Alfred for confirmation that it was a good idea, who gave him a patient but warm grin. “I was scared when I first got here, too. Remember?”
Bruce’s heart warmed and he nodded.
Jason was such a sweet boy.
Bruce took in a deep breath. “She went through something very traumatic, Jason. She wants her mom and she can’t have her. This is all very overwhelming for her, during a time that’s already scary. We just need to be patient and careful. OK?”
Jason seemed deflated, but nodded at Bruce before hanging his head a bit.
Alfred cleared his throat, “Master Jason,  I could use some help with dinner. Do you think you have the time in your very busy schedule?”
That man knew exactly how to get the boy out of a funk.
–––––
Jason did as he was told and left Y/N alone. The manor was big enough that he hadn’t even seen her yet. But Bruce made him promise he wouldn’t go hunting for the girl, which Jason begrudgingly agreed to.
But a few days after Y/N’s arrival, Jason was sneaking around in the pantry, getting a snack. And as he tried to make his escape before being detected, he saw that the doors to one of the ballrooms was open.
‘Huh. That’s funny. Alfred usually doesn’t need to clean in there,’ he thought.
When he tiptoed to the opening, he was surprised by what he found.
Instead of seeing Alfred or a short-term maid cleaning out the ballroom for an upcoming event, Jason saw a girl.
She was laying in the dead center of the room, not her back. She was wearing a hoodie, which made her look even more out of place with the extravagant wood and ostentatious of the room. She had headphones in and a discern on the ground below her.
Clearly, she was listening to music as she stared up at the tall ceiling. It was hand-painted, like the ballroom was the Sistine Chapel.
Jason just watched her for a few minutes.
She didn’t move, didn’t bounce her knee or foot, or hum to the music. She just listened to the music and stared at the ceiling.
“H-Hi,” Jason finally found the courage to say.
It was quiet and he hadn’t even expected for her to hear him.
But as soon as he broke the silence, she shot up to her feet and turned to face him, looking like a terrified and cornered animal.
Jason held up his hands out of reflex alone. “Hey, hey, hey. It’s ok!” He blurted out.
But her eyes just widened even more as she ripped the headphones off her hears so they were sitting on her shoulders.
“I’m not gonna hurt you,” Jason continued. “I just…wanted to say…ummm…hi, I guess.”
Y/N just stared at him.
She looked less scared now, but clearly uninterested in speaking with him.
“Still not talking, huh?” Jason sighed.
“Master Jason,” Alfred appeared around the corner. But he stopped whatever he was about to say when he saw the two children facing each other. Though Y/N was standing 15 yards away from them, in the middle of the ballroom.
“Why hello, little miss. Are you getting hungry?”
Y/N quickly shook her head.
“Are you sure?” Alfred asked, clearly worried about the child’s lack of appetite. “I just pulled some chocolate croissants out of the oven.”
Jason’s eyes lit up and looked back at her. “Oh, you have to try some. They’re amazing!”
But Y/N just looked at Jason weirdly before shaking her head at Alfred again.
Alfred sighed in disappointment. “Very well. You let me know when you are hungry, Ms. Y/N.” Then he turned his attention to Jason. “Come, Master Jason. Let us leave her alone.”
Once the both of them were out of sight, Y/N went back to her original position: laying in the middle of the ballroom, headphones on, and staring up at the ceiling.
“Why won’t she eat?” Jason asked quietly.
When he was on the streets, he was always hungry. Most of his energy was put into figuring out how to get his next meal. It was strange to see a kid deny food.
“I believe the manor is very overwhelming for her, Master Jason. And we are but strangers to her.” He patted Jason on the back. “But do not fret, I have been bringing trays up to her bedroom – and she’s been eating them thankfully. I do not think she feels comfortable eating with us quite yet.”
They arrived to find Bruce in the kitchen.
“I saw her!” Jason excitedly told him.
Bruce gave Alfred a worried look.
“She is in the ballroom, laying on the floor,” Alfred confirmed.
“Listening to music,” Jason added.
Bruce just nodded and looked at Alfred again. “I’ve been talking to Dr. Thompkins about making an appointment for her…”
“No!” Jason blurted out without meaning to.
“No?” Bruce questioned with a frown.
“I mean,” Jason looked at the two grownups nervously. “If you take her to a therapist, she’ll think we think there’s something wrong with her.”
Bruce sighed. “Well, there is something wrong. She’s grieving and she refuses to speak, Jason. We’re out of our depth here.”
“Just…wait a little bit. Please?” Jason looked up at Bruce with his big, innocent, blue eyes.
Bruce shared another look with Alfred.
“Alright, Jaylad. We’ll wait a bit longer,” Bruce sighed as he ruffled Jason’s hair.
————
Jason’s senses were good even before he became Robin. Living on the streets meant that he always had to be on high alert.
So when he was reading in the library at the manor, he felt someone watching him.
“You can come out, you know You don’t have to hide,” Jason quietly called out without taking his eyes off of his book.
A few seconds later, his gaze raised to see Y/N sneaking out from behind a shelf, hugging a book as if it was a lifeline.
Jason squinted as he tried to read the title. It was one of the Harry Potter books.
“Wanna read with me?” He asked gently.
Then he quickly added, “We don’t have to talk or anything! Just sit together and read our own books.”
Y/N watched him for a few minutes.
Jason went back to his reading, but all his senses were on her. He didn’t want to feel like he was pressuring her. So he went back to what he was doing and hoped he made it clear that he wasn’t forcing her to do anything.
Eventually, he heard the shy steps against the carpet as Y/N walked over and then grabbed the love seat that was across from him.
Just as promised, they didn’t speak. The two of them just read their books.
After a couple hours, Jason thought it was safe to talk.
“Just so you know…Bruce is a good guy. I know he can be kinda scary. But he would never do anything bad to you.”
Y/N’s body tensed as soon as Jason broke the silence.
“He doesn’t hurt kids.”
Her eyes finally snapped to Jason’s.
She couldn’t help but notice his unintentional emphasis on the word ‘kids’.
Jason sighed. “You don’t have to talk if you don’t want to. But we can still play together, right?”
Y/N looked at him for a few seconds before she finally nodded.
Starting then, Bruce or Alfred would frequently find the two kids sitting in the library, silently reading their own books, but sitting shoulder to shoulder on the couch. Then it moved onto playing hide and seek on the great lawn. Or the two of them racing bikes just outside the gates of the manor.
Bruce and Alfred were happy to see Y/N having fun and being more comfortable with them. But Y/N still didn’t talk.
And she didn’t seem to like being alone in a room with Bruce. She ignored him most of the time. But she would avoid a room if only he was in it.
Bruce’s guess was that she didn’t trust a man that her mother tried so hard to keep a secret. Surely there was a reason, and Bruce could only assume that Y/N believed it to be bad.
————
Y/N still stayed silent. But it seemed she formed an unspoken language with Jason.
And therefore Jason sometimes felt the need to act as her translator.
“Alfred, Y/N’s not feeling well today. I don’t think she should go to school.”
“Y/N doesn’t like peas, Bruce. Don’t give her so many.”
“Y/N isn’t a fan of scary movies. We shouldn’t watch them for family movie night.”
Bruce was glad Jason had formed a bond with his daughter. Most days, Bruce was convinced that he would never have any sort of breakthrough with Y/N.
However, things seemed to have changed on one fateful day.
Y/N and Jason were sword fighting with sticks in the forest on the manor grounds when Jason tripped backwards. It wouldn’t have been a big deal if that was it. But the boy just so happened to fall on top of something that broke with his weight.
Y/N rushed forward to see that Jason had fallen into some sort of sink hole. It couldn’t have been less than six feet deep – far too much height for Jason to get out of on his own.
Not that he could, though.
When Y/N looked down, Jason was either unconscious or dead.
“JASON!” Y/N shrieked, but the boy didn’t move.
Next thing Y/N knew, she was sprinting as fast as she could back to the manor.
“Bruce! Bruce! Alfred!” Her screaming echoed.
Bruce came running from his office. His eyes were wide with distress at both hearing his daughter’s voice for the first time, and hearing the obvious fear and panic in it.
He found Y/N sobbing in the entryway.
“Y/N? What is it? What’s going on?”
“J-Jason f-fell,” she struggled to say through her crying. “But-But he won’t wake up!”
Bruce kneeled and gently gripped Y/N’s shoulders. “Y/N, I need you to show me exactly where he is. Alright?”
Y/N nodded.
Alfred suddenly joined them.
Bruce turned to him. “Alfred, call an ambulance.”
Y/N grabbed Bruce’s hand and dragged him out the door. “Hurry. We can’t leave him!”
Bruce let his daughter drag him through the woods on the property.
She stopped and held up a shaky finger as she pointed down at the hole that Bruce couldn’t see into yet.
He carefully stepped forward to see Jason lay at the bottom with his eyes closed.
“Please help him, Bruce.”
He nodded and rolled up his sleeves before climbed down. “Y/N, please go stand by that tree. Wait there.”
Y/N rushed to do what he said, thinking that it would get Bruce to Jason faster.
The hole was wide and deep enough to make it impossible for Jason to get out on his own, but not for a grown man – and definitely not for Batman.
It only took a few minutes for Bruce to emerge from the hole with Jason in his arms.
Y/N took half a step towards them, but then stopped.
“Is he…Is he…?” Her voice was trembling as she failed to ask her question.
“He just unconscious,” Bruce assured her. “I think he may have broken his collarbone. But he’ll be alright, Y/N.”
Y/N looked at Bruce as if she didn’t believe him.
Bruce stepped closer to his daughter. “Y/N, I promise he’s OK.”
She finally nodded.
After Jason got back from the hospital in a cast, Bruce found that Y/N had snuck into Jason’s bed with him that night.
———
Bruce was hopeful that the incident would completely break Y/N of her mutism. But it seemed she still had no desire to speak to most people. She would sometimes say a couple of words to them at a time. But it was far from an actual conversation.
However, Bruce still saw that as somewhat of a success.
For the first time since Y/N had arrived, there finally seemed to be some sort of an improvement.
He saw Y/N smile and laugh.
Jason was clearly her favorite, but she didn’t seem to mind Dick when he graced them with his presence.
Y/N had been living with them for over two years when Alfred finally broached the subject that Bruce knew was inevitable.
Alfred was patching him up after a rough night. They were in the pain, surrounded by bloody gauze. Meanwhile, Y/N was peacefully asleep a few floors above them. And Jason was in the kitchen, getting a snack after joining Bruce on patrol.
“When do you plan on telling her, Master Wayne?”
Bruce played dumb. “Tell who what?”
Alfred tugged a stitch too roughly – clearly doing it on purpose. But he didn’t clarify, knowing Bruce was fully aware of what he was asking about.
“I can’t,” Bruce finally sighed.
“And why is that? Master Jason and Richard are well aware.”
“You know it’s different with her.”
“I’m not sure it is, Master Bruce.”
He frowned. “She’s already scared of me. And I hate it. How do you think she’ll see her father if she finds out he’s Batman?”
“She will just simply need more time to adjust,” Alfred suggested as he snipped the thread, finishing his final round of stitches. “And perhaps it’s the wall you’ve put between you two that makes her so weary.”
Bruce hadn’t thought of it that way.
“I’ll think about it,” he finally answered.
And Alfred knew that was as good as he was going to get for tonight.
———
But any plans of Bruce considering telling Y/N the family secret were lost.
Because they were too busy handling the death of Jason.
And Bruce had to lie to Y/N about how it all happened.
“Why couldn’t I go on the vacation with you two?” Y/N had nearly snarled.
Bruce figured she was convinced that if she had been there, she could’ve saved Jason.
When Jason had gone racing after his mother, Bruce had to race after him, too. He and Alfred thought it was best to come up with a lie. They’d never had to deal with Jason going rouge like that before.
“I promised him it would just be the two of us,” Bruce lied.
“I hate you,” Y/N finally hissed. “I’ve always hated you.”
Bruce leaned back, not expecting such an outburst.
This was the most Y/N had ever said to him since knowing each other.
“Y/N,” he sighed, not knowing what else to say to comfort her in this moment.
“I HATE YOU!” Y/N screamed it now.
And she had never raised her voice. It was all the opposite now.
Y/N looked at the fine china Alfred at placed near them before the conversation started. A tea pot, milk, sugar, and two tea cups. None of it had been touched by either of them.
“I hate this house!” She picked up one of the tea cups and chucked it at the wall behind Bruce, watching the china shatter.
Next she took the rest of the tray and tipped it so the rest of it shattered to the hardwood floor. The teapot shattered, washing dark tea cross the ground.
“Did you hear me!?” She yelled at him. “I. Hate. You.”
Bruce just stood and watched the tantrum. He refused to reprimand her. How could he?
“I hate you!” Y/N yelled again, clearly waiting for him to show some sort of response.
The she tried to shove him, but her tiny body was nothing against Bruce’s tall and muscular frame.
But she tried again.
When he still didn’t budge, she started pounding her fists against his torso. Tears started falling down her face in rivers.
“I hate you! I hate you! I hate you!”
Bruce finally snapped out of it, suddenly scared she was going to hurt herself. So he held her wrists firmly, keeping them in place. Which just made Y/N start to struggle to get out of his grip.
“Don’t touch me!”
“I know,” Bruce finally whimpered. “I know you hate me. I know you’ve always hated me.”
Y/N finally stepped away and he let her go, seeing that she was done trying to beat him.
“I wish it was you,” she whispered. “I wish you had died in that car instead of mom. Then we never would’ve met. And I wish it was you that died. Not Jason.”
Bruce just blinked.
With that, Y/N turned and sprinted to her bedroom, slamming in the door loud enough that Bruce could hear it from the den.
————
After Jason’s tragic death, a part of Bruce’s heart died and he would never get it back. But with his shattered heart, grew a new panic that he couldn’t protect anyone.
And instead of telling Y/N the truth about his double life – the double life that got Jason killed – he promised himself that he would never let Y/N know.
But the only way to ensure that, was to send her far away.
“Boarding school?” Y/N growled. “In Switzerland?”
“It’s one of the top schools in the world.”
“I don’t give a fuck,” Y/N said.
She was only 13, but it didn’t stop her from using profanities at Bruce any time she had the chance.
Her gaze snapped to Alfred for a millisecond, seeing if he’d be the one to scold her for using such foul language. But the butler simply looked at her, knowing she was looking for a fight with anyone and everyone these days.
“Guess it’s a good thing,” Y/N mumbled, shocking both the men. “You couldn’t keep Jason alive. Might as well send me away to make sure I’m not next.”
“Ms. Y/N, that is enough,” Alfred finally spoke.
He didn’t snap, but the finality of the discussion was still there.
“Should probably go pack anyway,” she hissed in response.
The next morning, Y/N didn’t even look at Bruce as she walked out the door carrying a couple bags. She refused to let anyone other than Alfred drive her to the airport.
Y/N offered Bruce no goodbye or even one last parting look.
He didn’t exist to her.
———
For the next years, Y/N never called. Bruce wouldn’t even know if she was alive if he didn’t call the school once a week to get a report.
Y/N didn’t even return to Gotham for holidays. Instead, she went home with any friend from school, preferring to hang out with someone else’s family than her own. Alfred had to basically beg Y/N to come back for the annual three-month summer break. And when she did, she was out god knows where all night and slept all day.
Bruce had followed her a few times. Well, Batman followed her. She was out with friends drinking or at a BatBurger or at a house party or sneaking into clubs that she was far too young to be at. But Y/N was Gotham’s princess, the long-lost daughter of Bruce Wayne. She just had to smile and show her ID and clubs would get her a table.
But then there was one night that Bruce hadn’t been following his daughter…and he saw something he wasn’t meant to.
Bruce had been patrolling, following a lead.
He didn’t expect to see Y/N getting handed a small backpack in exchange for a bag of what he could assume was money.
Bruce recognized the man immediately. He worked for the Penitente Cartel. One of the lower-level thugs who mostly managed the dealers on the street.
Y/N could hate him all she wanted. She could ice him out, ignore him, pretend she wasn’t a Wayne. But Bruce drew the line at her dealing and getting herself into the shit that he was trying to end in Gotham.
It was 9 in the morning when Bruce burst into Y/N’s bedroom.
She was passed out in an oversized t-shirt and grey sweatpants.
Y/N was 17 now and looked more like a young woman than a teenager or child. And that made Bruce even more nervous about her activities.
She jumped in fear at the disruption, sitting up straight in her giant bed.
Bruce had never invaded her space before and she was clearly shocked by it.
“Get out,” Y/N hissed.
But Bruce ignored her and started searching through her bedroom to find the bag he saw her get handed last night.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing,” Y/N snapped as she jumped out of bed.
But as soon as she was off the bed, Bruce lifted the mattress as if it weighed nothing and spotted the black backpack.
Bruce turned to her, shoving the backpack in her face. “What is this?”
Y/N tried to grab it from him, but Bruce wasn’t having it.
“Give it back,” Y/N growled.
“So you’re dealing drugs now?” Bruce asked. “That’s your new angle for trying to get back at me.”
“Oh, please.” Y/N rolled her eyes. “As if I give enough of a fuck about you to even put an effort into pissing you off. I’m not dealing.”
“So you just planned on using $100,000 worth of drugs?” Bruce challenged.
Y/N actually laughed in his face. “It’s discounted. Sometimes using your stupid family name gets me a favor. I pay half of what it’s worth and charge those stupid brats at school twice as much.”
Bruce narrowed his eyes. “As if you need the money.”
“It’s my money,” Y/N growled. “That I earn myself. And you can’t track it.”
“Planning on running away?”
“It’s not running away if I’m 18,” she told him, matter of factly.
“You want to move out of here and never speak to me again when you’re 18? Fine. It’s not as if I’ve ever threatened to cut you off. But I will draw the line at you getting involved with cartels.”
Bruce couldn’t tell what made Y/N angrier: the fact that he knew exactly where she got her drugs or the fact that he wasn’t pushing back like he clearly wanted.
Then he saw Y/N’s eyes suddenly darken, as if something snapped within her.
Y/N stepped closer to Bruce slowly. It made him tighten his grip on the backpack.
“Did you see me during your little patrols in your stupid costume?”
Bruce’s eyes widened, a rare slip of showing a reaction. But he couldn’t stop it.
And he could tell he’d given Y/N exactly the reaction she wanted – shock, panic, fear – because she gave laughed darkly in his face.
“I always knew you thought I was stupid,” she continued. “But did you honestly think I could live in the same house as Batman and not figure it out.”
Bruce’s heart was racing. “How…How long have you known?”
Y/N scoffed. Of course that’s what he would zero in on. “A year or so after I moved here.”
“Why didn’t you say anything?”
“Why didn’t you say anything?” She snapped back.
Bruce was silent, processing every interaction he’d ever had with his daughter and seeing in through the new lens. She knew. She knew almost all along.
But Y/N wasn’t done hurting Bruce yet. “Jason didn’t die that night. Robin did.”
Suddenly, she seemed done with the conversation and started moving around the room.
“What are you doing?” Bruce asked.
“Leaving.”
“No, you are not. You are still a kid. My kid. And I–”
“Oh, yeah?” Y/N cut him off. “How am I your kid? Huh? Besides sharing you’re DNA, there is nothing between us. I hated you then and I hate you now even more.”
Bruce’s next words were even and slow, “You are not leaving this house, Y/N.”
Y/N stopped packing and walked to him again. “You are going to let me do whatever the fuck I want, whenever I want. And you know why? Because if you don’t, I’ll tell the world their beloved Bruce Wayne is Batman.”
Bruce just stared his daughter down.
And somehow he understood that it was not an empty threat. She would do it.
Y/N seemed pleased with silence and finished up her packing.
She approached Bruce one last time with a warning look before shifting her gaze to the bag of drugs he was holding. She snatched it from his hands, and he let her.
“Stop pretending like you’ll miss me,” she called over her shoulder. “You sent me away the first chance you got.”
“I sent you away because I was terrified that you would be next,” Bruce muttered just as she reached the door. “You already knew I was Batman. How long would it have taken for you to make your way down the same path?”
Y/N had frozen in place to listen, but refused to turn around.
After a few moments, she turned ever so slightly so he could hear her say, “The idea of me becoming one of you was so terrible, that you made me this way instead.”
With that, she left the manor.
———
Bruce didn’t see Y/N for months. He always knew where she was, tracking every relocation she did. But she never checked in again, never came back to the manor. Now, she wasn’t even answering Alfred’s calls. Dick tried to reason with her, but had only snarled at him to leave her alone.
It was another night in Gotham.
The signal had only been in the air for 5 minutes and Batman was on his way, screaming through the streets in his vehicle.
He found Gordon waiting outside a the Iceberg Lounge, surrounded by dozens of Gotham PD. It only took a few seconds for Bruce to see that the group was struggling to keep it together.
“What happened?” Bruce asked with his Batman voice.
Gordon seemed to be failing to find words. His head was bowed and he couldn’t find the courage to meet Batman’s waiting gaze.
Finally, he lifted his head and looked at his cops. “Tell everyone to clear the scene.”
A younger cop spoke up. “But we’re still–”
“That’s an order. Clear the area.”
Batman tensed. Out of all the years of working with Gordon, he’d never done something like this before. He had never feared the gaze of Batman, never shied away from explaining the disturbing crime scenes they were about to study together.
But when they walked into the lounge, Bruce understood.
The usual colorful strobe lights were off, replaced by the bright fluorescents that were only on after hours when the cleaning crew was working.
And they lit the bodies perfectly.
Dead bodies.
Everywhere.
Sprawled across each other. Blood from one person staining the clothes of another.
And then Bruce saw her.
And he finally understood Gordon’s strange behavior.
There Y/N laid, her lifeless eyes staring up at the ceiling of the club. There were three bullet holes in her chest.
Bruce had always suspected that Gordon knew the truth, knew who he was behind the mask. And those suspicions were finally confirmed.
Gordon was bringing Batman in here alone because he knew that Y/N was his daughter.
But Bruce was silent.
There was a ringing in his ear, making it hard for him to process the crime scene like he usually did so naturally.
“It was a fight between gangs,” Gordon explained. “The crossfire…it…” He couldn’t finish his sentence. He couldn’t find it in him to politely explain that Y/N Wayne was just collateral damage in a petty turf war.
Batman said nothing.
His gaze hadn’t moved from Y/N.
“I’ll give you a moment alone.”
Bruce was trembling the moment he was alone.
He heard someone drop to the ground behind him. He turned to find Dick in his Nightwing uniform, eyes already wide with horror as they stared at Y/N’s dead body.
“No,” Dick gasped. “No, no, no.”
Then Dick was rushing forward, crying over Y/N.
After a minutes of silent tears, Dick looked up at Bruce. “We can’t leave her here.”
But Bruce was shaking his head already. “We have to.”
“No, we don’t.”
“Every police officer has already seen her. What will they think if they put together that Batman took Y/N Wayne’s body from a crime scene?”
Dick knew he was right. But he hated it. Absolutely hated it.
Before he let Bruce drag him out of the club, Dick silently cried over Y/N’s body, clutching her hand as if it could bring him any comfort.
———-
“How did it end?” Y/N asked in a whisper.
As Bruce told the story – their alternate timeline, their lives in a parallel universe – Jason had moved closer and closer to Y/N. Her body got stiff and her skin lost some of it’s color.
Bruce didn’t answer Y/N’s question.
“Bruce,” she pushed, a tiny bit louder.
“Jason,” he finally stated.
Y/N looked at her boyfriend, but he was glaring at Bruce.
“Jason killed me,” Bruce clarified.
“Because of the Joker?” Jason asked.
Bruce shook his head. “Because of what happened to Y/N.”
Jason tensed at the realization.
Bruce continued with, “Instead of hating me for not seeking revenge with the Joker, Jason hated me for not protecting Y/N.”
She looked to Jason again, but he wouldn’t meet her gaze. Because Jason could completely see himself – another self – doing such a thing. If it was Y/N, even if they weren’t involved like they were in this life, Jason would despise Bruce more from that than for never killing the Joker.
“What they showed you,” Y/N began, “Is there any sort of permanent damage? Will you be OK?”
“I’ll be fine,” Bruce answered roughly and far too quickly.
“I called in a favor with Constantine. He should be here tomorrow afternoon,” Dick chimed in. “Better safe than sorry.”
“What Master Wayne needs is some rest,” Alfred appeared behind them.
Jason, Dick, and Y/N whipped around to see the butler’s disapproving look. But they all nodded, understanding that Alfred always knew best.
“I’m gonna go for a drive,” Jason suddenly muttered. And he bolted out of the room. “I’m takin’ one of the bikes,” he called over his shoulder.
“As long as it’s not mine,” Dick called after him.
Y/N was taken aback by Jason’s abrupt departure. But clearly he needed to think.
After Bruce finished his story, Jason clearly couldn’t look at her.
Leave it to Jason to be guilty about not protecting her – even when it was an alternate universe that he wasn’t a part of.
“Hungry?” Dick asked Y/N with a heavy sigh.
She just nodded, knowing she wasn’t hungry, but agreeing to go with Dick to the kitchen anyway because she wasn’t going to sleep anytime soon.
Y/N picked at the leftovers Dick heated up for her. He knew better than to try and actually cook for her. And both of them didn’t want Alfred to stress himself with making them food with everything going on.
“You OK?” Dick asked after he could no longer handle watching her push her food around.
“I don’t know. How is one supposed to feel after finding out about an alternate timeline of their life?”
She wasn’t being sarcastic or snapping. Her confusion was genuine.
Dick smirked. “Believe it or not, getting involved with alternate dimensions isn’t all that rare in our line of work.”
“How do you keep it from driving you insane?”
Dick sighed. “No matter what happened to me in other worlds – or I should say is happening – I guess I always end up at the same place: There’s versions of me that have it better, but there’s also versions of me that have it way worse. I can’t fix them or copy them. All I can do is appreciate what I have here – right here. And be grateful I’m not living in one of those worst versions.”
Y/N gave Dick a shy and sad smile, knowing Dick had figured it all out.
“The thing is,” she began, “I can see myself hating him so easily. Had things gone that way, there’s not a doubt in my mind that the two of us would’ve never solved our issues.”
“Maybe I shouldn’t say this,” Dick winced, “But it’s good you found this family when you did.”
“I think you’re right,” Y/N admitted with a slow nod.
Suddenly Alfred came out from the kitchen with two large mugs in his hands, then softly placing one in front of each of them.
Dick whistled lowly. “Alfred’s famous hot chocolate. How lucky are we.”
“Alfred, you shouldn’t be worrying yourself about us. You should be getting rest, just like Bruce.”
“Y/N, you should know by now that rest is hardly found in this manor,” Alfred answered. “But I will be retiring to my room. Be sure to wake me if anything changes.”
“Night, Alfred.” The two of them said in unison.
“I swear, this hot chocolate has some sort of magic.”
Y/N eyed it, noting the ridiculous amount of marshmallows in it and how the smell alone had her salivating. She could tell immediately this was no standard, powdered crap.
“I’m worried about Jason,” she finally confessed.
Dick squeezed Y/N’s shoulder. “You know how he is…just gotta give him some time to sort out what he’s actually feeling.”
Y/N nodded, knowing he was right.
“Jason is fiercely protective. And knowing the people he loves were hurt in another dimension? He still takes it as personal failure.”
“I’m gonna wait up for him in the den,” Y/N sighed.
“Want company?” Dick asked.
But she was expecting the offer and shook her head before he even got the two-word question out. “No. Thank you, but go to sleep, Dick.”
He softly rubbed her back as he stood up.
Y/N went to the den with the rest of her hot chocolate and put on some random movie to zone out to while she waited for her boyfriend.
It wasn’t until an hour later that she heard the motorcycle return.
Jason was walking steadily until he passed the doorway of the den, clearly not expecting to find his girlfriend awake and waiting for him.
“Hey,” Y/N greeted ever so softly.
“Hey,” Jason mimicked back as he walked into the room.
“Wanna talk about it?” Y/N asked.
“I shouldn’t have left like that.” He was gearing up for an apology.
Y/N shrugged. “You needed some space to think. I get it.”
“No, it was selfish. I should’ve stayed with you.”
“But I’m fine,” she tried to tell him.
“Are you?” He challenged her.
“Am I supposed to crawl into a ball and cry my eyes out because there’s a universe out there where my life turned into a dumpster fire?”
“You know that’s not what I meant, Y/N.” Then he was sitting next to her on the couch, pulling her onto his lap. “I’m just telling you that you’re allowed to be upset after hearing crazy shit like that…”
Y/N didn’t fight the movement, but tucked herself against his body, inhaling his scent and finding comfort in his abnormal body heat.
“Dick thinks you’re feeling guilty because you couldn’t stop it…”
She felt his body tense at the assumption.
“You know I’d rather die then admit that Dick was right about something…”
Y/N giggled at his response and lifted her head to look at him.
But then her face slowly dropped to serious. “You can’t save me in every universe, Jason.”
“I don’t need reminding,” Jason answered curtly before his teeth ground and his jaw clenched.
Y/N grabbed his face between her hands, tracing the bottom of his strong jawline. “Jason, saving me in one world is more than enough. Don’t torture yourself more than you already do.”
But she saw that he was still not convinced.
“You’re enough, Jason. And you don’t need to be my hero in every universe. This one’s just fine.”
His eyes glazed over with tears, but he forbid them to escape.
He slowly nods, finally.
“It hurts. Even with me holding you right now, it hurts to think that there’s a you somewhere that needed my help, but I wasn’t there.”
“I know,” Y/N coos.
“But Dick had a good point: we can’t go crazy thinking about the other versions of us doing better or worse.”
“When did he get so wise?” Jason mumbled, clearly annoyed that he couldn’t help but admit that Dick saw reason where he didn’t.
“I promise I won’t tell him you said that,” Y/N giggled lightly.
A silence settled between them as they continued to cuddle on the couch.
“You’re worried about Bruce, huh?” Jason finally asked after a few minutes.
He knew that’s why she wasn’t as freaked out about what she’d heard. If the people she loved were in danger or hurting, she pushed all her own needs and thoughts and feelings completely to the side.
“Yeah,” she admitted.
“He’ll be fine,” Jason assured her. “The bastards been through shit a hundred times worse than this. He was worried about you. But now that he saw you, he’ll pull himself together.”
“I know you’re right. But my worry is taking over my brain and it’s hard to be logical.”
Jason kissed the top of her head and managed to hold her even tighter.
Another few minutes passed.
“Hey, Jason?”
“Hmm?”
“I’m glad I get this version of you.”
“I’m the luckiest fuckin’ bastard to get any version of you.”
––––––––––––
Honestly, can't believe I just wrote something and published it. This has been saved on my computer, halfway done, for like months and months. I teased it a long time ago. So if anyone was ever actually waiting for it, hope it was worth the wait.

A little peak of the prologue
𝙰𝚙𝚛𝚒𝚕 𝟷𝟺𝚝𝚑....
The cloaked figure quietly leaped over the gate, taking care not to trigger any alarms or alert the security systems surrounding the manor.
The figure gazed down at the sleeping baby in their arms and evaded the lasers that would have triggered the security system. Once they reached the doorstep, they gently placed the basket with the baby inside and slipped the hard drive into the baby's hand.
The figure stopped and gazed at the baby, tenderly stroking her cheek. The figure then removed their hood and placed a gentle kiss on the baby's head. The baby looked up at the figure but began to cry when she heard the loud crash of thunder.
As the figure walked past a window, they noticed a small boy inside. The figure gave the boy a quick glance, noticing his black hair, blue eyes, and red hoodie. The person then put their hood back on before taking one last look at the baby and disappearing into the night.
The sound of crying caught the attention of the boy in the red hoodie, prompting him to open the door and investigate. Upon seeing the crying baby, the boy picked up the basket and called out for Alfred. The old man rushed in, responding to the teenager's distress. "Oh dear," Alfred said, looking at the baby in concern.
"Master Jason, bring the baby inside quickly!" Alfred urged, leading them indoors. "Please alert Master Bruce right away," Alfred instructed Jason. With the baby in his arms, Jason noticed how the baby snuggled into the warmth of Alfred's suit.
"Alright there little one, who might your parents be?" Alfred asked, looking into the baby's blue eyes. He then headed to the Batcave, where Bruce would be returning from patrol shortly. A few minutes later, the Batmobile pulled in, its growling engine causing the baby to cry. Alfred quickly soothed the baby by putting a white pacifier in her mouth.
"What's going on?" Bruce asked as soon as he got out of the car, slamming the door behind him. "Jason told me to hurry back on comms." Not noticing the baby, Bruce went straight to the Batcomputer and began typing in the details of tonight's actions.
"Master Bruce, it appears that someone has left a baby on the porch," Alfred informed Bruce, holding the baby in his arms. Bruce turned around to look at the baby. "Do we know who left her here?" Bruce asked. He then made a quiet noise, wondering if anything was left behind. "Did they leave anything else?" Bruce interrogated the butler. "Only five hard drives, sir," Alfred answered his question.
Jason approaches Bruce and hands him the hard drives and the basket containing the baby. Bruce instructs Jason to start a DNA sample on the baby to find out who her parents are, while he takes the hard drives.
Bruce inspects the hard drives before plugging them into the Bat-computer. He then takes a small glance at Jason, who is swabbing the baby's mouth with a q-tip and putting the DNA sample in the machine. "Hey old man the baby is your daughter," Jason tells Bruce.
Bruce stands up from his chair, surprised at the results on the screen. He checks for the mother, but it was inclusive. Bruce puts in the first hard drive which had files on the baby, who didn't have a name. "Take Jason to bed" Alfred understands what Bruce is thinking and takes Jason to bed.
He puts in the second hard drive as soon as he heard the elevator shut. This one explained who her family was. After he watches the rest of the harddrives he calls Alfred back in.
"I need you to set up a nursery in the meantime she'll sleep in my room"Bruce instructed the butler.
Bruce looked down at his daughter, He was struck with reality. He had a daughter and the opportunity to raise her. He could be the father he always knew he could be, the one his parents believed he was capable of becoming.
Then 3 words came out his mouth.
Elizabeth Martha Wayne
Here is the summary:
Beginning where it all began-come along with Liz Wayne throughout her younger years, from making acquaintances to more. She was found nestled on Bruce's doorstep as a baby and is, in fact, his biological child.

Bruce knocks softly on the doorframe of your open balcony door and smiles in that gentle, loving way of his. Your reaction to this varies always, which he knows and understands. Sometimes it's shock that you greet him with  - not used to being loved, not used to something gentle.
Sometimes it's anger - a harsh snap of disbelief. This hurts him, but he understands - you're not really angry, you're just trying to protect yourself from something that you feel is too good to be true. And you always apologize after, always end up hovering by the doorway of his study as he works. He invites you in every time, that same soft smile on his lips. And tears gather in your eyes as you apologize and ask for forgiveness. You don't have to ask me that, he always reminds. You don't have to beg to be loved. And then, when your bottom lip trembles and your hands bunch the hem of your shirt, he gets up, settling down on the leather couch and holding out his hand to you.
You go to him, always - something he's irrevocably grateful for every time as flashes of you, young and scared, stumbling away from him whenever he tried to help, flash through his mind. Every step you take towards him is a victory. And you settle at his side, every time, crying into his shoulder and holding onto him as if he'll disappear if you loosen your grip. He holds you back, just as tight. I'm here. No matter what, I'm here. Because as much as it hurts him to see you hurting, the idea of you doing it alone is much worse.
This time, however, is his least favourite reaction. Your disbelief, he can deal with. Your anger and suspicion and fear he can take in stride. But in moments like this one, where his love is met with anguish - these are the hardest.
It's pain that he sees in your eyes when he smiles at you from the doorway of your balcony. A deep, settling sorrow that he can see swallowing you whole. You're curled up on the little couch you have out there, arms wrapped around your waist like some sort of shield against the world.
You don't need to do that, he thinks. Let me do it for you.
"May I join you?" Is what he asks, slowly stepping forward and settling on the couch next to you when you nod. He shifts so that he's facing you, watching as you pointedly keep your gaze locked on the gardens over the balcony railing - always so determined not to look sadness in the eye.
"Can you tell me what's wrong?" Bruce prompts gently, hoping to crack you open a bit in that soft, gentle way of his. He keeps his hands relaxed on his knees, palms facing up in an inviting gesture. He needs you to know that he's there not just for words, but for touch if you need it, too.
"It's bad again, Bruce." You say quietly, voice wavering. Your chin stays up, though, eyes staying forward. "I know that, um… I know that I'm getting better and that this is just… temporary. But… knowing that and feeling that are two different things." You're sniffing by the end of that, trying so determinedly to keep yourself together. You don't have to, though - not with him.
"What do you need?" Bruce asks, voice still quiet and level - a solid object for you to grasp onto in the middle of drowning.
"I think I just… need to cry about it." You say dejectedly, finally looking at him. You're wearing a mask that he recognizes well - you don't want to cry. There is no part of you that wants to break down and feel this, even though you know you have to.
"You don't have to do that alone," Bruce reminds soothingly.
"I feel like I am alone," you whisper back, like it's a confession not fit for others to hear. Your eyes grow wide after the words leave your mouth and your eyes search Bruce's face for any sign of anger or disappointment. "I didn't mean - I'm sorry - I know you're here and you're trying and it's not your fault -  I'm just -"
"Hey hey hey… you're okay, sweetheart. You're okay," Bruce offers in return, and the only thing you can find in his face is that same soft, gentle understanding and patience. There's no anger - no judgement or disappointment or frustration. There's just love. And really… that's all you need.
"It's ok… it's ok, you cry as much as you need," he assures as you bury your head in your hands, sobs beginning to wrack your body. He opens his arms and you fall into them, one of his hands rubbing up and down your back comfortingly.
"It hurts," you say through your tears, breath stuttering as you try to speak. "I have everything I ever wanted and it hurts so much."
"It's an adjustment," Bruce soothes. "It's new and it's different and it takes time - even though it's good. Sometimes the good things are hard to handle, too."
"I wouldn't know," You snap bitterly. Bruce just smiles.
"You do now," He reminds. You breathe deeply for a minute, sniffing through your tears.
"Yea… I guess I do." You say finally, smiling weakly. It's small, but it's genuine, and that's enough for Bruce.
"Can you tell me why you feel alone?" He asks. "I'm not upset. I just want to know so that I can help you." You nod and take a deep breath, steadying yourself, focusing on the feeling of him rubbing a hand up and down your back. He pulls a blanket over to you, wrapping it around your shoulders. You let him. It's a step. And every step is a victory.
"Sometimes I just… feel so far away. Even if we're all here, in the Manor. Even if we're all in the same room. It's like… it's like I'm drifting out to sea and everyone's just standing on the shore and no one's noticed, because to them I'm still right here, but to me… I'm just so far away." You explain. Bruce hums in understanding, still busying himself with pulling the blanket around you just right and placing pillows where they should be around you. You recognize it as one of the ways he shows that he loves you. That's a step.
"Is there anything I can do to help that?" He asks. You smile a bit.
"This helps." You say.
"Then we can do this for as long as you need… whenever you need," Bruce promises, settling in next to you. "There's hope out there, sweetheart. And I'll stay right here with you while you find it."

Valentine
Wally West X Batsis! Wife! Reader
Warnings:suggestive content, explicit language, angst
Words:1313
Arthur's notes! Wally was abused as a kid Iris and Barry adopted him when he was a teen.
The Batfamily try to comfort Y/N during the romantic holiday knowing she misses her husband. Even with the love and support.. She begins to remember when they thought he wasn't coming home.
Tumblr media
"Jai! Irey! It's time to go!" Y/N announced to her twin children
The twins both speed to their mother as she intentionally held in a yelp by their sudden appearance. She had been married to Wally for 8 years and had been dating him prior for 4 years.. She still could never not be startled by a speedsters, well speed.
"your still wearing your pajamas?" she asked quirking her eyebrow.
Just a few seconds went by as they were gone and then returned fully dressed.
"ready now!" Jai proudly said
"I can see that" his mom chuckled
As the, West family minus one, arrive at the Manor. Each leave out of the parked car. Jai speeds to the entrance door to the Manor, opening it for his mom and sister
"maladies!" he playfully said
Y/N laughed softly being reminded of her husband in her son.
"thank you kind sir" she smiled rubbing his forehead sweetly
Her smile faded once inside missing Wally. It'd been 6 weeks since they last saw him. He had been absent for league missions as it was his turn to be Flash. Both Barry and Wally took turns every so often. Though unfortunately Wally was held up with responsibilities more than usual and had only enough time to call his wife every few days.
Soon thereafter being greeted by her family Y/N departs to the empty family. She sits alone on the couch. Her mood worsens as she rest her hand on her chin. Even in her bitterness she was grateful for her family was supporting her while her husband was away. It was the day after Valentines Day. Alfred insisted to cook dinner and have all the family together. Because of the romantic holiday.. They knew she would likely be feeling more lonelier than she already is. Which they weren't entirely wrong.
"you ok Kitten?" Selina asked her daughter
She lowers her hand as to not look as gloom as she feels. She softly smiled not answering her as she did not want to lie. Selina sits next to her.
She gently shakes her head angered she was becoming emotional "I know he's coming back"
"but it reminds you of when we thought he wasn't" she said
~
"man Y/N is so gonna kill me! Don't even get me started on you and the family"
"Wally?" Barry looked to his adopted son
"just tell them ok" Wally said has Barry reached out to his son, he was gone.
Y/N then sees only chrysalis's energy disappearing. Her eyes only saw Barry with Bart. She looks hoping to see her husband. Barry slowly approached her with dread. He feels his body is in shock. Her eyes begin shaking as, his hand came to her shoulder.
"Y/N, he wanted me to tell you--"
"NO!!" she begin to sob, in a instant her grief shakes her, causing her to kneel down to the ground
Dick hurried to her and leaned down to comfort his sister. She couldn't move as she could hardly breathe. She felt as though she was suffocating.
Bruce adjusted his tie sighing heavily. He was so worried for his daughter losing her other half and for his son losing his best friend. He then sees her in his reflection.
"I wanted to be here for you and for her" Selina said softly
Bruce hurried to her in complete adoration and embraced her. The former thief embraced the dark knight. He kisses her as he had too much to say to her in gratitude..
"she'll be OK, Bat" Selina promised
"what if she isn't, Cat? What if Dick isn't? How can I.. How can.." help them? Love them? Comfort them? Nothing seemed to be enough, he was scared to say the wrong thing.
"you be there as a shoulder for them to cry on. You be their comfort and you deny them to think for a moment their alone"
Y/N sits in the chair staring at the gravestone dedicated to her husband. Wally's adopted parents Barry and Iris were nearby her as they both were in tears.
She had cried for so long that now she felt nothing but complete brokenness. She had her arms folded as chest felt it would cave in just from her heart beating so rapidly. Right behind her she could hear Dick crying as Barbara was consoling him. Alfred sits beside her as he could see the horror on his granddaughters face. He touches her shoulder to comfort her.
Bruce sat with Selina while looking at his daughter and his son. He looked angered but inside he was truly worried for them.
As everyone began to leave Y/N stood by the gravestone, alone. All she could think about was there last moments together.
Bruce sees Dick sitting in his car barely moving as he tried to remember where is keys are.. He doesn't need to be driving..
"I took the keys from him earlier.. I'll drive him home" Barbara said to Bruce
He gently nodded trusting her to take care of his son. Bruce sees his daughter just as he hears thunder. A obvious sign that the storm from above is nearing closer to them. Though he understood her reasoning for not reacting to her surroundings. Bruce takes his umbrella opening it. Selina kisses he side of his face
"I'll be home" she ensured, and he knew she wasn't referring to her apartment.
Bruce softly smiled to her and then steps to his daughter.
Y/N feels drops touch her hair and then her skin. Then she doesn't feel the rain on her skin. She looks to her dad who was holding the umbrella over both of them.
As if she was a defenseless child she clings to her father, needing his comfort. He held her with one arm kissing her head.
Shortly thereafter she found out, she was pregnant with twins.. It wasn't until they were 5 months old that they were finally able to meet their dad.
~
The door to the Manor lightly creaks open by Wally. Who was holding chocolates with a bouquet of his wife's favorite flowers. Dick sees his best friend and softly smiled. Wally motions him to be quiet.
"go get her" Dick proudly said
Wally hears his kids in the family room he peeps his head in. The were both unaware of their father's presence while playing games with Damian. Wally grabbed a wrapped piece of chocolate and tossed it Iris's forehead and the Jai's neck.
The twins picked up the pieces of chocolate confused. They turned seeing him and gasped "DADDY!!!"
"hi my sweet princess!! Hi buddy!!" Wally grinned opening his arms as he knelt down.
The twins speed to hug their father. Wally was, in tears as he held them. Y/N had heard her children and wanted to stand onto her feet. She wants to run as fast as she can.. Though she began to sob to such a degree it shakes her weakening her greatly.
Wally gives his kids a tight hug before taking the flowers and chocolates to his wife. He hears her crying.. Wally speeds to her kneeling right in front of her. She looks at him unable to calm herself down. He puts down the flowers and chocolates on the coffee table.
Wally reaches his hands up to her face and kisses her. She hugs him with such a tightness it twisted his heart to ache as he realized.. What she was thinking about and what was bothering her.
"I missed you so much babe. I am completely and genuinely so very sorry" he apologized
"it's OK" she dried her tears and kisses his lips ".. Thank you for the flowers and the chocolates" she softly laughs
"yes I know today is not Valentines!" he defends playfully. "but I had to make up for lost time" he smiled softly.

Learning to Love Slowly
Jason Todd x Reader All Chapters AO3
57-Mr. Wayne and His Sons
You and Mr. Wayne looked up from your respective books at the sound of yelling, sharing a glance before looking at the library doors.
“You son of a bitch! You tell her, and I’ll kill you.” That was Jason’s voice clear as day, you’d know it anywhere, and it was coming closer. Within seconds, the doors to the library burst open and Dick strode through ready to say something. Before he could even get a breath of air out Jason was on Dick from behind tackling him to the ground.
“I told you to shut up,” Jason said, putting Dick in a not-too-tight choke hold.
He reached up to pull his brother’s hair in response, yelling out, “I have to show you what Jason has on his phone—!” Suddenly, Dick was calling his younger brother every name in the book as he had taken a hefty bite of his arm.
Book forgotten, you propped yourself against the arm of the couch, looking down at the two scuffling around with a grin on your face. Bruce was already getting up with a loud, tired groan that would be heard from any worn-out father to head over to his sons. They didn’t stop their fight upon his approach, still yelling incoherently while pinching and pulling at each other.
“You’re adopted,” Dick yelled.
Jason scoffed, “We’re both adopted, you dickhead!”
Bruce bent down and pinched their ears, halting any motion from them. Giggling, you watched as Mr. Wayne pulled them up to their feet, scolding them like Alfred would. Both declared the other of starting it.
“He’s—he’s mean, Dad,” Dick declared, pointing at Jason.
Jay scoffed, “What are you, asshole, five?”
Bruce let them go, eyes narrowing, “What’s this about—”
“Jason has a—” Before he could answer, Dick was having a hand smacked against his mouth.
“Dad,” Jason said, looking at Bruce. The way his face turned to surprise for a split second, he hadn’t meant for that to come out. “He’s trying to share my personal shit.”
Bruce hushed Dick before he could say anything in his defense, reprimanding him for invading his brother’s personal space and trying to embarrass him in front of you. His eldest was already defending his actions like he was nine again, pleading with him that it wasn’t that serious of a secret.
“Didn’t think invading person space really applied to you since you have tracking devices on nearly all of us,” Dick snapped.
You quietly asked, “Does that include me?”
“Probably.”
“No!”
“You better not be tracking my fucking girlfriend.”
Bruce was quick to explain that tracking his children during patrol was very different and that he would never go as far as to track them outside of the mask. Not anymore, anyway. Jason rebuffed the comment by saying that was far from the paranoid father he knew.
You interrupted before it could turn into an even bigger fight, “We’re getting off-topic, what is it that you don’t want to be shared with me?”
Jason sheepishly moved from Bruce over to you, taking out his phone to show you while he whispered in your ear. Your face turned red as you looked away, flustered.
“Yeah, we’ll talk about that later.” You said.
Bruce admired how the two of you looked like two kids so in love, while Dick groaned. You excused yourself and Jason so you could take about exactly how this came about.
Once the library doors closed, the scolding that Bruce gave Dick could be heard from down the hall. Still, it was nothing compared to Alfred's.
