Single teen dad steve who’s kid comes out as trans kinda young and fuck it’s the late 80’s early 90’s - post upside down - and he’s freaking out because he just wants the best for his little kid. She- he has always been Steve’s biggest priority and he loves his kid no matter what and he’s gonna embrace the hell out of it, but he has worries about it all because he’s in small town Hawkins and people here get beat up for being rumoured to be gay, what the hell is gonna happen to his kid??
But mainly, he has no idea how to help. He doesn’t know anything about it. Robin assists where she can but she’s just as in the dark about it as Steve.
Then comes one night, Axl (they’re trying out new names each month and this month Axl is obsessed with Gunners so it’s only appropriate) is having a panic attack over his dysphoria and Steve is trying his best to help. He can’t bind, doesn’t know how to do it on his own without it hurting really bad, and Steve is trying to help but Axl won’t let anyone see any part of him without a shirt and so it’s hard. They tried to figure out how to do it on Steve’s bare chest but it’s not really the same. Eventually Axl cries himself to sleep about it with Steve sitting on the end of his bed because Axl didn’t want to even be touched after a while.
And Steve doesn’t sleep that night, he stays up half the night trying to bind his own chest correctly, then he tapes balloons and stuffed toys to the front of this big bear they have and tries to bind on that. But nothings working, and he can’t help but feel like he’s failed his kid. He debated calling Robin up to see if she’d come over and he could try binding her chest to figure it out, he knows she’ll say yes because she cares about Axl so much and also won’t care if Steve sees her bare chest as he has before, but she’s out of state for work for a whole other week. He just cries until it’s time to get up for work and school.
Axl is wearing a baggy shirt under an even baggier hoodie, even though it’s the middle of summer. Steve wants to tell him to take it off, to make sure he doesn’t faint today, but he knows that’s only gonna make things worse - everyone at school still thinks he’s a girl. He makes sure to pack ice packs in Axl’s lunch bag and extra ice in his water bottle.
He goes to work and thinks about it all day, then he gets home to find a note on the counter from Axl, saying he’s popped across the street to study with Melody for a while. They’ve been friends since they were little, and she’s the only one from school who knows so far. Steve’s glad Axl’s doing something to distract himself rather than rotting away in bed and making himself feel more sick about it.
Halfway through cooking himself dinner (and by cooking he means microwaving whatever the fuck he can find in the fridge) he gets a knock on the door. It’s Eddie. Of course it’s Eddie. They had plans to catch up for a beer down the pub tonight, since they hadn’t seen eachother in a while now. Steve had been so distracted today he completely forgot.
Steve apologises to Eddie and tells him he’s just been so stressed today and he couldn’t talk to Robin about it and everything is just so complicated, he just breaks down and cries right then and there in his doorway.
And Eddie, being the kind soul that he always has been, pulls Steve into a hug and lets him cry about it.
They sit down at the table together and crack open a couple of beers and eat the microwaved leftovers. And they chat and Steve forgets about everything for a little while. Eddie does that to him; makes Steve forget everything else in the world doesn’t exist besides Eddie.
He’s tried to snuff his stupid feelings for Eddie out for years, since 1986. It hasn’t worked. But Eddie’s been between relationships, and Steve’s had Axl to worry about so trying to have anything serious has been so hard and pointless. No one wants an instant pre-teen, and especially not Eddie who has expressed he doesn’t want kids several times. It’s pointless.
So very pointless.
But Steve wants him anyway.
Eddie asks about Axl, as he always does. He cares about Steve’s kid the way he cares about Dustin, sort of. They get along, but Eddie kinda gets awkward around him for some reason and Axl gets very flustered around Eddie. Steve found it adorable when he was little, Eddie with his long hair and tattoos, he always through it was cool. And as Axl got older, the more he’d avoid Eddie in hopes of not fanboying over Eddie’s band, or tattoos, or his guitar.
But they don’t really see eachother much these days, so now that Axl’s fourteen and too cool to ask questions when Steve brings Eddie up, who knows what they’d be like around eachother?
Eddie’s asking questions, completely oblivious as he asks how “she’s going” and if “she’s surviving her first year of highschool” and blah blah blah, and Steve knows it’s because he doesn’t know. But it messes with his head anyway, because that’s his boy their talking about, not his girl, and it’s been bothering him all day and Steve just-
He crumbles. He opens up to Eddie and tells him everything on his mind right now. How Axl is really a boy, and how they’re trying out new names, and how Steve feels like he’s failing his kid because he doesn’t know how to help him bind, or feel safe, or come out at school, or what to do to get him on testosterone or if that’s even an option and-
Eddie places his hand on Steve’s and smiles so softly, “You’re struggling to bind?” Eddie asks.
“Yeah, it’s like- his chest… he- he’s doesn’t-“
“Yeah, I- I know, Steve.” Eddie nods, “Would Axl be okay with me knowing this? Or, like, not?”
“I don’t know.” Steve so sobs, “I shouldn’t have said anything without his permission, but I just trusted you and I needed to talk to- to someone. And I’m…”
“Okay.” Eddie cleared his throat, “okay, will Axl be home tonight?”
“Yeah.” Steve sniffled and checked his watch, “It’s almost curfew.”
“Okay. Have you got any bandages? Or what have you been using?”
“Yeah, bandages… cloth.” Steve rubbed his nose.
“That’s okay, uhm, how about you go get those for me?”
Steve, confused but too mentally tired to think much of it, goes and does just that. He brings back the rolls of bandages and cloth they were using and dumps them on the table in front of Eddie. Eddie smiles and moves the cloth aside, looking at the strip of bandages.
“The wider ones are better. These are a little thin, but… does he use a sports bra most days?”
Steve nods.
“Okay, I suggest getting some wider bandages. But I can make these work.” Eddie grins.
“What?” Steve grumbles.
“Come here.” Eddie shuffles his chair over to Steve, “Arms up, not up in the air but like, out so I can get around.”
Steve follows his command yet again, and watches with confused eyes as Eddie begins to wrap the bandage around Steve’s chest, talking him through the process; where to place his hands for best compression, and insisting it can’t be too tight or it will hurt.
“It probably won’t be perfectly flat, they never are, but it will be better.” Eddie smiled, “Surgery is always an option, but they won’t let him get that until he’s like, eighteen.”
“How do you-“
“Hey, dad, sorry I’m late, I have a math test tomorrow and we-“ Axl chattered, walking through and shutting the door, “… uhm, hi Eddie.”
“Hi!” Eddie grinned and waved at Axl before looking back at Steve’s chest and fastening the bandage together with the clip at Steve’s side.
“What are you doing?”
Steve felt his heart drop, “I’m- I’m sorry, kid, I shouldn’t have told him but- I was just, I needed someone to talk to, and- It’s not and excuse-“
“No, it’s not.” Axl dumped his bag down on the kitchen counter and walked over, “You should ask before assuming.”
“I know.” Steve furrowed his brow, “I don’t usually-“
“But it’s okay because it’s just Eddie.” Axl shrugged and leant down to look at the bandges wrapped tight around Steve’s chest, “I figured you’d already told all of your friends.”
“Nope.” Eddie shook his head and smiled, “He certainly did not. Cool name, by the way- Guns and Roses?”
“Yeah.” Axl nodded.
“Sick.” Eddie grinned.
“Did you do this?” Axl pointed to the bandages.
“Wait, you’re not upset with me?” Steve asked.
“No, I know you’re not just gonna out me to some cunt who’s gonna beat me up-“
“Language.” Steve pressed.
“Besides, Eddie’s gay and a self proclaimed Freak, out of most of your friends he’s the least likely to judge.”
“Right you are, little gremlin.” Eddie smiled up at him.
“I’m still sorry.” Steve murmured.
“Don’t be.” Axl playfully punched his arm.
“Also, to answer your question,” Eddie continued, “Yes, this is how you bind. I can show you how to do it, if you like? I suggest bigger bandages but this can work for now.”
“Yes please.” Axl nodded, and Eddie immediately started to unwound the bindings on Steve’s chest.
He re-tied it, talking step by step to Axl, and then he got Axl to bind Steve’s chest himself, Eddie talking him through the process.
Then, Eddie got Axl to do it on himself, over his baggy jumpers, because it’s a little different doing it on someone else. Steve sat at the table and watched in awe as Eddie animatedly talked Axl through the process, and Axl couldn’t wipe his smile off his face.
The moment it was done he raced off to his room to do it properly. Eddie went and got them another beer.
“Thank you.” Steve smiled at him, “So much.”
“No problem, Steve-o.” Eddie grinned, “I have not done that in a while, it was kinda fun.”
“What do you mean?” Steve furrowed his brow, and Eddie shrugged and pulled up his shirt.
The first thing Steve noticed was the added ink Eddie had gotten since ‘86. The second thing he noticed was the bat bites scattered over his skin. And the third… two scars stretching along his chest.
Steve remembered being back there, crying and trying to add compression on all of Eddie’s scars. He remembered finding bandages already wrapped around Eddie’s chest, under his clothes, but he thought nothing of it, figured Eddie had cut his chest open or something. Not… this.
Eddie blushed and lowered his shirt, shrugging up at Steve.
“Oh my god.” Steve muttered, and Eddie just stared at him, “Holy shit, you’re like Axl?!”
“Yeah.” Eddie nodded, and then a couple of seconds later Axl was body slamming into the back of Eddie and wrapping himself around him.
“I didn’t think anyone was like me here.” Axl mumbled, obviously trying to not cry, “I always thought you’d be the coolest out of dad’s friends.”
Eddie snickered and gave Axl a hug back, “How’d you go, did you get it?”
“I think so.” He said, stepping back and showing off to them. It’s the first time Steve had seen him wear anything less than a baggy shirt. He was dressed in a cropped muscle tee, and he looked so confident.
Steve started to cry.
“Hey! Look at you, it looks so good, kid.” Eddie grinned, “If you want I can show you how to draw facial hair on to look realistic.”
“Fuck yeah.” Axl grinned, “I want a moustache.”
Eddie snickered and looked back at Steve, his face dropped when he saw him crying, “Hey, Stevie-“
“Thank you.” Steve sobbed and buried his head in his hands, “Holy fuck, thank you so much.”
Eddie smiled softly, “It’s no issues, of course. Anything to help a fellow freak like me, huh?” He smiled up at Axl, “I should be thanking you, it feels nice to have another person like me around again.”
“Do you know more people like us?”
Eddie nodded, “You know my friend Gareth? Yeah, he’s like us, and a two more people but they’re not in town.”
“Oh my god, really?!” Axl grinned, “This is so awesome, can I please come to one of your gigs or something?”
“I thought you were too cool for that stuff?” Steve snickered.
Axl flipped him off, “I just wanna meet him… as a guy.”
Eddie leant out and ruffled Axl’s hair, “Yeah, kid, whenever you like- though, a band practice would be more ideal for a fourteen year old.”
Axl frowned dramatically and went to get himself a drink.
“Seriously, Eddie, thank you.” Steve murmured, “I haven’t seen him that happy in… not in years. He’s just a kid, he’s meant to be that happy every day.”
Eddie nodded, “I know how he feels. I knew I was different really young too, and when I was about twelve I told my mum and she told me to never tell anyone. And then she died, when I was sixteen, and I ended up telling dad for some- I don’t even know why, he beat the shit out of me and I ran away. Like, away away, up to Indi. Wayne found me then, when my dad told him what happened, and bought me home and let me be Eddie.” He shrugged, “I remember the first time I tried binding with duct tape, Wayne found me crying in front of the mirror about it and he came in with bandages and helped me figure it out. I went on testosterone when I turned eighteen, so.”
Steve smiled, “I’m sorry you went through that, Eddie.”
“I’m sorry you’ve been going through this clueless. Wayne had no idea either, he’s got a book on how to look after trans kids now, but he didn’t back then, I can tell you that.” Eddie laughed, “Thanks for being his dad, and like, being a good one.”
“He’s my kid, I can’t just… of course, I love him.”
Eddie smiled, “You don’t know how rare that is for people like Axl and I.”
“I don’t understand why.”
“Me either.” Eddie hummed, “You’re a really good dad, Steve. A really good guy.”
“I’m just doing what I’m supposed to do.”
“Yeah, but you care. More than most people do. You care so much.” Eddie gently took Steve’s hand into his own, “I’m sure you already know but being Axl’s dad isn’t gonna be easy, especially not in fucking Hawkins, but so long as you just stick around and… care, then things are gonna be a whole lot easier for him. It means so much to him, and me, even.”
Steve smiled at him and squeezed Eddie’s hands as a thank you, “Can you stick around too?” He asked, “Help Axl in the places I cant?”
Eddie grinned, “Yeah, of course I can, Stevie.”
“Thank you.” Steve sighed, rubbing his temples, “You have no idea how grateful I am that you’re in my life.”
There was a moment of silence before Eddie whispered, “You have no idea how grateful I am that you’re in mine.”
They looked at eachother, and Steve felt his heart in his throat.
“Okay…” Axl murmured, rolling back over to the table, “You guys are clearly having a moment so I’m gonna stop eavesdropping.”
“Hey!” Steve scoffed, “You little shit.”
Axl chuckled and scruffed Steve’s hair, “Thanks dad, I love you too. You’re my best friend.”
Steve absolutely blossomed at that, he’d never been so happy to hear those words. He used to hear them all the time, when Axl was really little. But then he became a preteen and being friends with your dad suddenly stopped being cool. He’s ecstatic right now.
“Thanks Eddie.” Axl smiled at him, giving Eddie a fist bump as he passed, “Can we like… talk sometime? I just wanna-“
“Know if someone’s gone through all the crazy shit as you?” Eddie offered and Eddie nodded, “How about we get some lunch this weekend, huh? Then hang out at the music store?”
“Sounds good.” Axl grinned and continued to walk past, “I’ll let you guys get back to your moment.”
“Moment?” Steve asked, red in the face, watching Axl walk down the hallway to his room, “There’s no moment, what moment?!”
“Don’t worry about it.” Axl shouted back and walked into his room.
“Axl!” Steve shouted out.
“Axl!” Eddie shouted too, “What fucking moment do you mean?”
Axl poked his head back out the door, “You were having a nice moment about friendship and being a good dad and blah blah blah!” Axl shouted and Steve and Eddie both relaxed, “I just shouldn’t be evesdropping of course.”
“Okay.” Steve nodded and looked back to Eddie, watched the sparkle in his eyes dance as he shifted to look back at Steve. And he melted at the sight.
“Also, this would be a great time to do something about that crush you’ve had on Eddie for years, dad!”
And with that, Axl’s door was slammed shut.
Steve and Eddie were staring at eachother. Eddie was slowly turning more and more red.
“You have a crush on me?”
Steve’s lack of an answer probably was a dead giveaway, but he hoped Eddie was oblivious.
“Oh.” Eddie muttered, and clearly he’s not oblivious, “You have a crush on me- god, I sound fifteen. Wow, you are into me- Steve- you- okay.” Eddie cleared his throat and fixed his posture, “Do- wow, huh, uh… do- do you wanna- do you wanna go out with me? Okay, there, I did it.”
“You’re asking me out?” Steve asked, a little gobsmacked.
“Yeah.” Eddie bit at his nails as he looked at Steve nervously.
“Yes.” Steve swallowed, “Yeah, I- yeah… can- does tomorrow work? Seven?”
“Seven.” Eddie smiled, his shoulders relaxing, “Yeah, a date at seven.”
“Okay.” Steve smiled too, “Wait, is this just… I just need to know if this is a date or like, with the intention of something more serious.”
“Uh…” Eddie swallowed, “Considering I’ve been into you for years now, I’d prefer something a little more permanent. But-“
“You don’t care I’ve got a kid?”
“No, I-“ Eddie ducked his head, blushing, “To be honest I’ve kinda always been jealous he wasn’t our kid.”
“Holy shit.” Steve muttered, “I thought you didn’t want kids?!”
“Yeah.” Eddie shrugged, “I don’t know, you make all my wires cross, Steve. I’ve pictured a whole ass future with you.”
And Steve can’t wait to make that future come true.
And Axl grows up with a second dad who helps him through his transition too, has a little more intel. And Steve loves watching them as they chat about their shared experiences being trans, and cries when Axl comes out and shows off his excessive leg hair one afternoon, and when Eddie starts compulsively making fun of his voice cracks at age seventeen, and when Eddie’s sitting there and talking him through the procedure he’ll endure for his first surgery and- Steve’s just overwhelmed with love for them both.
And then he and Eddie adopt a little girl and Steve’s just so in awe of how Eddie is with the baby, and how Axl instantly takes to the protective big brother role. And just picture it, okay!? Just picture Steve and Eddie having a family together, okay?!

Steve was unsure if the level of happiness bouncing off every surface of his brain was even possible for a human being to experience.
He thought that he had lived a life in which he experienced more than the average person ever would. Explored countries far and wide, met people of this earth and foreign universes alike, traveled through space and time, having taken lives and now creating one.
But right here, in the labor and delivery unit in the middle of Greenwood medical with his sweet Sunflower fast asleep and using his shoulder as a pillow, his leg falling off the side of the small hospital bed you insisted he snuggle you on, and his precious newborn in his arms, he new life couldn't get much better than this.
He would take spit up stained shirts, a numb leg, and his peaceful ladies using him as a sleeping apparatus any day of the week over international travel and superhero ass kicking.
He couldn't recall a time in his life where he had ever been more in love. With you, your mind, your body, heart and soul. Every time he even began to try to comprehend the level of adoration he had for you in this moment, he just started weeping.
The tears of love weren't exclusive to just you anymore, because somehow, even after two whole days of being earth-side, his cheeks still never seemed to dry when he looked down at his perfect little daughter.
Ten fingers, ten toes, and genetically half super, she was already a force to be reckoned with. After almost 36 hours of labor, Sunflower naturally birthed a 9 pound baby girl. The second she was born, cleaned up and swaddled, she was placed right into Steve's arms. Her big blue eyes were wandering around the room, and that's the moment he knew she was gonna be trouble.
The level mischief Steve could already detect in his daughter, he knew she inherited that from him. But other than the color of her eyes and the shape of her lips, she looked just like you, which meant she was absolutely perfect to him.
Though he would do anything for his daughter, he would do anything and more for you. There wasn't quite enough adequate words in the English dictionary to describe his gratitude for you. For 9 whole months you sacrificed your body for the future that you and Steve had always dreamed of, the put yourself through antagonizing pain just to give birth.
So yeah, Steve would take the sleepless nights and poopy diapers just to make sure you were getting the rest you needed and deserved to recover.
You didn't quite anticipate the vulnerability it took to go through the process of labor, birth and recovery. The amount of people that would touch your body, needing help for simple things like going to the bathroom, how weak your body would feel shortly after how powerful you'd felt during birth.
But Steve was a heaven sent Angel. Never leaving your side, he made sure you were taken care of. Constant reminders of how powerful and beautiful you were, and how much he loved you. He would pull your hair back into buns for you when you wanted it out of your face, only to take it down five minutes later when you felt like it was bothering you, just to do it all over again. He guided you through breathing exercises and mind work to manage your pain levels, some he learned from the birthing classes he attended with you, and others were techniques he personally used on battlefields. He'd squeeze your swaying hips to alleviate pain, wipe sweat off your forehead, keep your water bottle cold and filled, and completely ignored all of the very natural processes you felt embarrassed by.
Much like he had never been more in love with you, you had never been more in love with him. Especially as he got you snuggled up and cozy in bed with more than enough reassurance that the baby would be completely fine so you could snuggle up to your warm cuddly husband and get a good Power Nap in.
The first time you watched his fear of his own strength dissipate, the new born's hand wrapped around his fingers and quiet tears fell down his cheeks, or when he did skin to skin with her and she was so teeny tiny on his big and broad chest, you would've let him get you pregnant all over again. He was the gentlest giant, a paradox of fear for many but nothing but gentle love for you.
As you slept, your breathing was even and calm, you snuggled his left arm like it was a teddy bear. His right arm was occupied by the little baby, gentle snores worked past her nose as a nice reminder that she was out cold.
All was calm and peaceful until Steve could hear the competing and fast footsteps of his dumb idiot friends racing down the hallway. The closer they got, the more he cringed internally knowing that both his girls were about to be woken up by the sound of their banter.
"Stop! We agreed on this! I get to go first!"
"No, me first. I'm going to be her favorite uncle."
"Not if I beat you to it"
"As if you stand a chance."
There was rustling, shoving sounds, and what sounded like a body getting punched before it all stopped and there was a gentle knock on the door.
"Come in!" Steve called out as softly as he could, but unfortunately you had stirred awake already. "Quietly, the girls are sleep-"
"Uncle Bucky is here!" Bucky announced, his voice bouncing off the hospital walls.
"Uncle Sam is here too, but he brought presents for his niece!" He glared at Bucky.
"Uncle Bucky brought flowers for Mama, because obviously we wouldn't even be uncles had it not been for the lovely Sugar Cookie" Bucky glared back.
Steve shook his head with a smile, and your sleepy giggles sounded from right below his ear.
"Bucky, Cap, I'm happy you guys are here!" You let go of Steve's arms and opened them to greet the boys.
They both walked over and gave you some good hugs before doing the same to Steve, congratulating you both and asking how you were doing before their eyes locked on the baby.
They didn't even have to ask for Steve to know what was about to happen.
"Buck, have you ever held a baby before?" Steve questioned, getting up off the bed to hand her off to one of the boys.
He shook his head nervously, before Sam cut in. "Don't worry Steve, seasoned professional here" Sam said, stretching his arms.
"He might be a professional, but I've been saving my first time my entire life just to have the very first baby I held be yours, Pal." Bucky sassed back.
With narrowed eyes, Sam walked over to the sink and started washing his hands. "Well my hands are cleaner, which is safer for Cinnamon Roll."
"I've known Steve longer." Bucky glared. "I can wash my hands too."
"I'm Captain America."
"That's funny, I don't see you featured anywhere in the Smithsonian museum exhibit about Captain America"
"I've known sugar cookie longer." Sam used Bucky's argument.
"I've spent more time with her."
Steve looked over at you, wide eyed unable to choose who held her first. You laughed and shrugged your shoulders.
"Boys" you cut in, both of their heads snapped to look at you.
"You look beautiful, are you sure you had a baby two days ago?" Bucky complemented, playing up the charm.
"Steven Rogers you better watch out because this hot mama is gonna be attracting all the boys."
You looked at Steve's face which was now half smiling but also mixed with a raised eyebrow and a lot of confusion.
"I don't think I've had enough sleep to put up with this." Steve commented.
"Thank you, but what I was trying to tell you is that she loves you both equally, and you'll both have the rest of your lives to spoil her, okay? This isn't a competition." You explained. "Steve and I both love you, cinnamon roll loves you, which is why we're going to settle this with a game of rock paper scissors."
The boys glared at each other, then wordlessly played the game.
Rock, paper, scissors, shoot...
Sam had rock, Bucky had paper.
"Alright Bucky, wash your hands and have a seat and I'll show you ho-" Steve started.
"Best two out of three" Sam argued.
"That was fair and square." You denied with a giggle. "But I love the enthusiasm"
"Damn it!" Sam plopped down on a chair in defeat.
Following instructions, Steve perfectly placed the baby into Bucky's arms. He was a little tense at first, but then relaxed as he felt the soothing effects of a little baby bundle in his arms.
It only lasted for about 15 minutes before she woke up and started crying, you and Steve both responded to the sound as if you were on autopilot.
Sam stood up and cracked his knuckles, stretched out his neck, and held a hand out to halt the new parents. "Seasoned professional, remember?"
Steve still continued his advances towards his daughter to appease her tears, but Sam effortlessly scooped her out of Bucky's arms and started bouncing and rocking her like he had done it a billion times before.
Her sad little cries persisted causing anxiety to rise in Steve's chest.
"She might be hungry" he noted, trying to get Sam to hand her over.
"She's not hungry." Sam denied, placing her on his shoulder, bouncing on the balls of his feet and patting her back.
"Okay then she needs to be changed." Steve argued.
"Nope" Sam denied once more, continuing to pat her back. "I know this cry like the back of my hand, she just needs to bu-"
Then, the loudest burp Steve had ever heard sounded from his tiny daughter like it was nobody's business.
"And there it is" Sam smiled as her cries stopped and her head tucked into his neck with a tiny satisfied smile. "See? Seasoned professional."
Steve deflated and sat next to you on the bed with sunken shoulders.
You sat up and leaned over to squeeze his shoulders and kiss his cheek. It was obvious that he felt defeated by not knowing exactly what she needed at the moment, but he was only two days in. You'd both get it down eventually. "You're a great Dad, honey."
"That was the biggest burp I've ever heard." He noted, melting into your touch. "I've never been more proud."
"She takes after you, Steve" Bucky laughed. "But she definitely only cried because she didn't want to burp on me, obviously because she loves me more and I'm the favorite uncle."
"No, she cried because she knew Uncle Sam would take care of her. She wanted me!" Sam argued.
Then, she burped again. Only this time it was accompanied by lots of throw up all the way down Sam's back.
"Steve. Come get your daughter." Sam deadpanned.
Laughter filled the room as Bucky got up and stole her back from Sam.
"Yep, I'm definitely the favorite." Bucky stated proudly as Steve followed him to wipe her mouth with a cloth.
"She really does take after you, Steve" Sam agreed with Bucky. "But all her good looks are definitely from sugar cookie."
"Once again, I've never been more proud!" Steve smiled down at his little Cinnamon Roll, patting her round little belly with pride.

All I can say is it was enchanting (to meet you)
Read it on AO3
Eddie was exhausted from spending years touring, stage after stage, studio after studio. He wasn’t planning on abandoning his career just yet, but after eight years on the road, he needed to rest for a while. So, a couple of months ago, he moved into that tiny, residential neighborhood, with white picket fence houses, wide green lawns, families, and golden retrievers. That’s why he bought this three storey house that needed some hours and dollars to fix it up, and a backyard that used to be a beautiful garden at some point.
He wanted to fix it himself. He wanted to plant flowers, paint the walls, and turn off the goddamn phone for weeks.
Eddie was thinking about maybe getting a dog or something. Or a turtle.
Or his neighbor from the house across the street.
Eddie would be a dirty liar if he said that the first time he saw him playing with his twins in his front yard, he didn’t forget about his own name for a moment.
Two four year old girls, one of them with hair and soul made of fire, and the other one quieter, with a big, gentle smile and a head full of auburn curls.
Two lovely tiny munchkins having a tea party with his father, sitting at the cutest teeny-tiniest Frozen themed plastic set of table and chairs Eddie had ever seen. The dad was pouring imaginary tea into their plastic cups, the curly haired one graciously gesturing with her hands while she sing-sang how much fun she was having and how delicious the tea was.
He saw the red-haired girl pulling an annoyed face, rolling her eyes, and telling them she wanted to go skating already, that this was dumb (and Eddie loved her instantly), also gesturing.
It was only when the dad gestured back to the red haired girl, and she huffed when Eddie realized that they were talking in sign language.
When the dad spotted Eddie, standing in his front yard, fully staring, Eddie’s face became so red so fast, that even from many feet away, he was sure that the whole family could notice.
The dad smiled and waved.
The kids turned to look at him. The curly haired one stood and made a deep bow, that Eddie returned.
The red haired one flipped him the bird, with a wicked smile.
Eddie faked being hurt by that and threw himself back in his garden, behind a bush.
Even from there he could hear the honest, high pitched, uncontrollable laughter of the kid.
They didn’t really interact much directly after that.
They spotted each other and waved every time, sharing smiles. Eddie didn’t want to get his hopes high because there was an ash blonde girl that was constantly coming in and out of the house, but he soon relaxed when he heard the kids (El and Max, short from Elena and Maxine, he got to learn eventually) referring to her as aunt Robin.
Robin also saluted him every time they crossed paths, and then turned quickly to the neighbor (Steve was the name) to gesture something. Always the same signs. Steve always granted her with an eyeroll and a blush.
And Eddie always hid a smile.
The smiles, the furtive looks, the rush of blood to the head anytime they run into each other became the greatest part of Eddie’s days. And even though Eddie had his fair share of action back on the road, and he was anything but timid, there was a shyness, borderline cowardice when it came to be bold enough to engage with Steve.
And then one day, it was clear that Steve was the boldest of the pair. He approached him, notepad in hand when he was fixing the garden.
“need any help?” Steve scribbled.
Eddie gifted him his brightest smile, and made space for Steve, who kneeled next to him, and started fixing the daisies.
After an hour of stolen smiles and a thousand untold stories after every mole of Steve’s skin that Eddie needed to put in his next song, Eddie saw El and Max standing in the pavement, looking curiously at them. He patted Steve, who turned and gestured to them to get closer. The kids approached to say hi and kiss his dad, and it was Steve’s cue to leave to make dinner.
Eddie gave them both a daisy. El’s eyes were brighter than the sun. Max’ cheeks were brighter than her hair.
And Steve’s look was the fondest, earnest, sweetest Eddie had ever seen.
And after the daisies, the kids invited him to their birthday party the following Saturday.
Eddie got Max a tiny skateboard, and a plushie snowman for El.
He finally met Robin, who was the funniest woman he’d ever met, mainly because she wasn’t trying to be funny at all. Her witty comebacks, and the way he had teasing the kids, who absolutely adored her, was quite a show to see.
And Eddie didn’t know them enough to be engaging too much. Without being asked, Eddie helped Steve as much as he could, entertaining kids when needed, taking away wrapping paper scraps, or even keeping the kitchen free of sugar rushed mini humans.
So much to do, yet both of them spent all afternoon stealing glances and smiles from each other. At some point, he saw Robin signing fast to Steve, hidden in the kitchen, and poor guy, his cheeks were flushing red.
After the cake, kids started to go, until only Robin and him were at Steve’s. Eddie wanted to help with the cleaning, but Max and El took him to a thousand family pictures infested living room to play with him. El was gentle and quiet, Max was more demanding. They were trying to teach Eddie some words in sign language, and he gave them his full attention, until eventually El fell asleep on the couch, and Max on Eddie’s lap.
Steve entered the room, and gestured Eddie to take Max upstairs, while he held El, who instantly wrapped her arms around his dad’s neck.
They left the kids on their beds (that bedroom needed some tidying up, Eddie had never seen so many toys).
When they went down to the kitchen, Robin had already left. Steve scribbled on the notepad on the counter.
“stay for dinner? leftovers it is”
Eddie huffed a laugh and nodded. They ended up eating sandwiches (and chocolate cake with a picture on top of a half eaten Elsa face) in the kitchen.
Eddie took the pen.
“ELSA’S LEFT EYE IS DELICIOUS”
Steve almost spat what was eating.
“shit i just got her braid”
“MAX IS GONNA BE SO MAD AT YOU”
“max is always mad at me”
“MAD MAX” he scribbled, and proceeded to draw a poorly braided kid skateboarding with spikes in her helmet.
At first it was accidental, but then their hands started touching, lingering, when they were passing the pen. Steve dared to give a soft, brief caress with the back of his finger.
When they intertwined their hands, pen and notepad forgotten, Eddie lifted his gaze and locked it with Steve, and all the air was sucked out of the room.
Steve cupped Eddie’s cheek, softly, a question in his pupils and his half open mouth, that Eddie wordlessly replied with a soft nod and a hand on his waist. Steve kissed him and it was the sweetest thing Eddie had ever experienced.
After that first kiss came another. And another. And another one. It was only when Eddie was between Steve’s lips and the kitchen door that Steve seemed to think twice about what was happening there. He broke the kiss with a troubled expression. He closed his eyes, sighing, and pointed at the draw of Max.
Eddie needed no notepad, no signs, no words to understand that it was time to leave. He smiled at Steve, cupping his cheek with both hands, and resting his forehead against Steve’s.
“We can figure this out,” Eddie whispered. Steve, who was looking at Eddie’s lips while he spoke, looked at Eddie’s eyes, and smiled. Nodding.
Steve walked Eddie to the door.
He was about to leave, when he turned to Steve, and slowly, he signed “thank you, daddy.”
Steve opened his eyes, holding back a smile. Grabbed quickly the notepad, and wrote really fast.
“you must’ve picked up the ‘daddy’ sign because that’s how my kids call me. I’ll show you Steve.”
Steve left the notepad aside and started gesturing, but froze when he saw Eddie gesturing fluently at him.
“I know how to say Steve. Look, I am a musician. Heavy metal and rock. I’ve been on the road for years. I took a break because I’m losing my hearing, too. I learnt sign language a couple of years ago.”
Steve gestured back almost furiously.
“Why didn’t you say anything before? Wait, so you know what Robin and I were talking about all the time?”
Eddie laughed. “I’m glad you think I’m cute.”
They were both blushing, and biting shy smiles.
“I’m gonna go.”
“Bye, rock star.”
“Bye, daddy.”

Steddie | Parents AU | Dustin POV
As many of his teachers told his parents multiple times, Dustin is a smart kid.
Despite his age, he’s witty and, quoting his Papa’s words, he “asks way too many grown-up questions”. He suspects Papa calls them 'grown-up questions' when he doesn’t know the answer.
Dustin is a smart kid, so he immediately understands something his wrong.
Papa looks mad, but it can’t be mad at him because he did all his homework and cleaned his room.
His dad has been out all day, so Dustin can’t ask him.
Even tho mad-Papa is extremely scary, Dustin is a brave boy so he goes into the living room where he’s laying on the couch.
He’s greeted with a small smile so yeah, Dustin has done nothing wrong but Papa is clearly upset.
Dustin tries his best to understand why he’s mad and what he’s mad at, but his father keeps smiling at him and talking about dinosaurs (which is Dustin’s favorite topic at the moment).
Dustin is about to ask directly when they hear the door open. Dustin jumps off the couch and runs to the front door (“Don’t run around the house!” Steve scolds behind him) to welcome his dad home.
As always, he screams “welcome home!” And his dad covers his ears pretending the noise is too much.
«Dude my poor ears!» he exclaims before picking him up and hugging him, making him giggle.
When he leans back, still in his father’s arms, he notices the look on his face. He isn’t smiling anymore, he’s looking at Papa who looks even madder than before.
This isn’t the first time that Papa got mad at Dad, obviously, but it never had been like this. Dustin flicks his eyes back and forth between them, until he’s been put down and told to go play in his room.
He tries to play and forget about it, but he can’t. He wants to know what it’s going on so, even tho he knows he shouldn’t, he opens his door a little to spy on his parents.
They’re whispering in the living room, Dustin can’t tell what it’s about, but they’re moving their hands around a lot. Dad’s long hair is moving in all directions, like when he’s playing the guitar, and Papa is shaking his head repeatedly. It doesn’t look good.
«I need to leave» it’s the first thing Dustin manages to understand. His heart drops.
He closes the door of his room as his dad is walking towards the front door, his heart beating fast in fear of being caught.
He hears them talking a bit more before the door slams. Dustin jumps off his desk chair.
The door of his parents' bedroom opens and closes, then everything is silent.
Dustin waits a few minutes before peeking out of his room, the apartment is uncharacteristically quiet. It reminds him of when it was just him and Papa, before Eddie became Dad. It’s sad.
He closes the door once again and sits back on his chair, not knowing what to do. He thinks back to when Mike’s parents, one of his best friends, had the biggest fight ever in the history of fights and then divorced. Now Mike can’t shut up about how cool it is to have two houses and two bedrooms.
Dustin likes the idea of two bedrooms, it seems cool. The divorce tho? He feels terrible about it. But the more he thinks about it the more he’s sure there’s no other way; he doesn’t know how big it was the Wheelers' fight but his parents' one was huge for sure.
He feels like crying, the tears are in his eyes, ready to fall, but he doesn't want them to. His papa would hear him and find out he was eavesdropping, which is not a good boy thing.
Trying to see the bright side, if they divorce it means he will still see dad, he thinks. He doesn’t want to go back to calling him “Eddie”, or not calling him at all. Mike goes to his dad only once a month, Dustin has no idea how that will work since he has two dads.
At that point, Dustin decides that, if he has to split into two houses, he should pack for the new second bedroom. Dad always tells him he’s great at packing (Dustin helps him out when he has to go play guitar in other cities) so it seems the logical step to take.
Maybe Dad went to the new house, he wonders as he's taking some clothes out of the closet.
He's sorting his toys out when his Papa comes into the room, he's been caught red-handed.
«Dustin, what are you doing?»
«Uhm, I'm packing» the shocked and hurt look on his father's face makes him rush into a detailed explanation of what he had heard before, the Wheeler's divorce and how he didn't know how many clothes and toys he was supposed to take to his dad's new house.
That doesn't make the situation better, Dustin thinks, because he sees the tears in his father's eyes.
«Oh honey» Papa sighs, holding back the tears. He takes Dustin hands in his «listen kiddo, your dad and I are not divorcing.»
«You’re not???» Dustin is shocked but also very relieved to hear it «are you sure?»
Papa chuckles «of course I am sure! I pinky promise» he holds out his pinky and Dustin immediately takes it «I’m sorry you heard your father and I… you know, sometimes people fight, but that doesn’t mean we don’t love each other anymore! I still love your dad very much. And the important thing is to make up after.»
«So you’re going to make up with Dad?»
«I… yeah kiddo, I am. Let’s go» he takes Dustin by his hand and, with a determined look on his face, he guides them out of the apartment. Dustin is reminded of one of the knights in his dad’s stories, going off for their quests.
They rush down a ramp of stairs, to the floor below were aunt Robin and aunt Nancy live.
Papa knocks furiously on the door until aunt Robin opens it.
«Steve…? What is going on?»
«I’m sorry to come so suddenly but could you watch Dustin for a little while? I’m in a rush»
«in a rush? Why? Where’s Eddie? Did something happen??» aunt Robin looks panicked but Dustin isn’t worried, she acts like this most of the time.
Aunt Robin and Papa talk back and forth, he wants to leave soon and she wants to know the details. They’re too distracted in their conversation to hear someone coming up the stairs.
As Papa is saying “Rob, Eddie and I had a fight and I need to talk to him”, Dustin sees his dad emerge from the flight of stairs.
«Dad!» he screams, excitedly.
————
Eddie wanted to punch himself for running away. As he was walking away from their building, the anger faded to sadness and guilt pretty quickly. Their fight was mostly due to the both of them being tired, and not worth leaving his family behind.
The turned around as soon as he came to the conclusion that he had to rush back and beg Steve for forgiveness.
He was running up the stairs when he heard Steve and Robin’s voices.
Dustin is the first one to notice him and- uh, Steve was going to look for me?
«Hey bud» he smiles at his son, but doesn’t dare approach first. Steve doesn’t look mad like he did before, but he doesn’t want to make any other mistake for the day.
Only after Steve does the first move, he throws himself in his arms.
There’s a mixture of hushed apologies, promises of being better and to never fight like that again.
«Dustin thought we were divorcing» he chuckles in his ear.
Eddie looks at his kid over Steve shoulder, who’s holding Robin’s hand and smiling wildly at them «what? Where did he get that from?»
«The wheelers.»
«Of course, always the fucking wheelers» he huffs.
«He was packing like you taught him to.»
«oh my God, that’s so fucking cute, I can’t believe I missed that.»
«Yeah.»
There’s an awkward silence between them. They’ve still a lot to talk about, the hurt from the fight -Steve being reminded of the time when he was a single dad, Eddie hating himself for missing out and hurting Steve- will not be easy to overcome.
«Can we go home now?» Dustin huffs, catching their attention.
They say their goodbyes to Robin and Eddie picks Dustin up and hugs him tightly.
As he’s holding his son in his arms, he thinks about the time in his life when he didn’t know him nor Steve yet.
Fighting and making up isn’t easy, but it’s worth it.

Honey - Steve Harrington x Single Mother! Reader - pt 1
This is just from a random thought I had a little while ago and how freaking cute it would be, in this series, it's all set after the show is over and done with basically, there is no more trouble coming from the upside down, it follows the basic storyline with the other characters too, but Eddie does not die!!!
Anyway! Enjoy! _________________________________
3rd Person Pov
Steve couldn't believe his rotten luck. His mom had managed to grab him before he could leave the house for work, asking him if he'd take a basket of goodies across the street. Apparently some new neighbours had just moved in and she wanted to welcome them to the neighbourhood.
Steve's mother hadn't always done this, but after more and more people started to leave Hawkins because of the weird stuff that happened there, there were less neighbours around to impress.
He wished he could just say no, that he would be late if he did this, but he knew he'd hear and earful from both of his parents so he just nodded with a plastic smile, taking the basket and heading out the door. Steve knew he'd only have to deal with this for another week or so, most of his stuff had been packed up, he was just waiting for his next day off to move out.
Steve smiled as he thought about his new place, he couldn't afford a place of his own quite yet, neither could Robin, or Eddie, so they decided they would find a place together. The three of them got along great, even if Steve was the most mature one (truly a worrying thought). Leaving his green Family Video vest on the hood of his car, Steve made his way over to the house with the very recently added 'sold' sign.
He wasn't sure what to expect when he knocked on the door, actually, that wasn't true. He knew exactly what to expect. Nobody interesting ever moved here, it was probably an older couple, recently retired, looking for a place to finally settle. Or a couple of strung up desk jockeys like his dad.
So when a small girl, about four or five, answered the front door, coming down off of her tiptoes from reaching for the door handle, Steve was genuinely shocked.
She was tiny, chestnut ringlets that reached just under her chin, big brown eyes that made Steve melt and a cute smattering of freckles across her cheeks, holding a soft blanket and sucking her thumb. Steve was truly surprised, this was certainly not who he had expected, but he still bent down and put a soft smile on his face.
"Hey there, is your mom or dad home?" He practically whispered, his voice changing completely to accommodate the child in his presence. She mere nodded at him, reaching to grab his free hand and began tugging him into the house. This certainly was not how he expected his Monday to begin.
Being tugged by a being that was probably a quarter of his height was rather daunting, especially when he was also carrying a fairly heavy gift. Steve was fairly worried about being in a stranger's house, what if he never left it? What if this kid was a ploy to get people to enter? What if...?
All those questions went out the window. As he was dragged into the kitchen, his breath was taken by the sight in front of him. A beautiful woman, couldn't have been any older than he was, cradling a baby, swaddled in blue, close to her chest, humming softly. Somehow she was also able to make breakfast for the other little one, smiling as she did so.
To Steve, this was everything he had ever wanted. It was so pure, so sweetly domestic. That was when the beauty looked up, seeing him being led in by, what he now assumed was her daughter. Steve expected to have something thrown at him, in all honesty, who wouldn't when there was a random man in their home, holding onto their child's hand.
Her smile dropped slightly, but didn't disappear, she looked at her daughter and asked in a quiet voice, not wanting to disturb the baby, "Who's this Sam?" Steve felt his knees buckle slightly at the sound of her voice.
The girl, now known as Sam, shrugged her shoulders, let go of Steve's hand and wandered off, clutching her blanket still. Chuckling at the little girl, the woman's smile returned, waving Steve to the breakfast bar, offering him a seat.
Steve swallowed his nerves, that had sprung up very suddenly, and took a seat. The woman smiled at him, clearly seeing his nervousness, and offered him a cup of coffee, which he politely refused. The woman nodded, "So, why did my daughter drag you into the house? I assume you're here for something?" She asked, pouring a glass of orange juice and setting it down in front of him.
Steve smiled at the woman and nodded, taking a sip of the juice. "Yeah, sorry about that!" He said, scratching the back of his neck, "I just came to drop this off, my mom asked me to bring it over. We live across the street, I'm Steve, Steve Harrington." He told her, keeping his voice low and even to avoid disturbing the baby.
The woman grinned at him, looking at the basket his mother had made up, there was all sorts of stuff in there, a bottle of wine, nice cheeses, some bath stuff and a few other things. "Well tell your mother I said thank you, not many people would be happy with new neighbours such as us..." She trailed off, looking down and the baby in her arms, before her smile returned.
"I'm (y/n) (l/n), you've obviously already met Samantha, and this is Jamie." She cooed, bouncing the boy in her arms. Steve smiled at the woman, (y/n), what a lovely name.
Steve thought back on something that (y/n) had said, "You said something earlier, about not many people being happy with neighbours like you? What did you mean by that? Not that you have to tell me, I was just curious!" He stammered, not wanting to offend the woman in front of him.
(y/n) simply giggled, a honeyed laugh that Steve would do anything to be able to hear again. "It's not a problem, it's just that usually a woman as young as me with two children is usually only accepted by the neighbourhood if she'd married, which I am not." She chuckled, leaning to give baby Jamie a kiss when he stirred.
Steve felt his heart jump, a few times, she was single? Did that mean he may have had a shot? Obviously he wouldn't just ask her out immediately, she had two kids to think about first and she'd just moved in, she probably wanted to get settled before even thinking about dating a random guy that just walked into her home.
But the idea that he could be a part of this kind of life, waking up to two beautiful children every morning, his wife in the kitchen making breakfast, making sure he had something to eat and drink before he left for work or to get the kids to school, the idea made him ache.
Speaking of work...
Steve took a look at his watch and realised that he really was going to be late now, so he quickly swigged his juice, "I am so so sorry, I'd love to stay and talk more but I've got to get to work..." (y/n) looked up at him with shining eyes, confused at why he had shot up so quickly, "If you need anything," He began writing his phone number down on a sheet of paper, "Please give me a call, avoid talking to my parents if you can!" He joked, only somewhat serious.
Leaving his glass in the sink, he began leaving, saying goodbye to (y/n) and Jamie, and waving with a soft smile at Samantha, who had been peeking at him from around the corner, before leaving for work.
___________________
Running from his car and into Family Video, Steve was already apologising profusely to Robin, who was glaring at him from behind the counter. He wound up being half an hour late, meaning Robin had to open up without him.
Robin began tapping her fingers on the counter top, something she only did when she was trying to calm her anger for Steve. "I get it, you're sorry! But what the hell took you so long! I had to cover for your ass!" Steve apologised again, shucking his vest on and starting to re-shelve the returned movies.
"I know, I'm so sorry! My mom asked me to take something over to the new neighbours and I sort of lost track of time..." He explained, his mind already drifting off to thinking about the woman he'd left behind, he would much rather be helping her move heavy boxes than be here.
Robin looked at him sceptically from across the room, she'd seen that look on his face before.
"Who's the girl?" She asked, blatantly. Steve panicked, dropping the pile of tapes. Looking back at Robin, she now had an annoying smirk on her face, she knew she was right on the money and was now being smug about it.
"I- No, there's- I mean-!" Steve tried to lie his way out of it, only to sigh and give up, he knew Robin knew him better than that, he wouldn't get away with it. "Her name's (y/n)..." He muttered, already feeling his cheeks turn pink at the thought of her.
Robin smiled in victory, jumping over the counter to get closer to Steve, already forgiving him for being late, now she was interested in something else. "I knew it! Spill! I wanna hear everything!" She cheered, it wasn't rare for Steve to be interested in someone, but for him to try and lie about it? Or even for the thought of this woman to make him so shy and nervous, she must have been something special.
Steve smiled at his best friend, "She's amazing, I barely know her of course, but she's sweet and thoughtful and has these two kids that are just ador-"
Robin stopped him.
"Wait, she has kids? Steve are you getting a crush on a married woman!?" She hollered, smacking his arm. Having feelings for a girl is normal for Steve, but a married woman is something Robin couldn't abide.
"Ow! No! She's not married, she's a single mom! She told me she was surprised my mom would send her anything because small towns usually aren't accepting her for being single with two kids!" Steve explained frantically, as Robin chased him, throwing pens at him.
Robin stopped in her tracks, "Oh, well that's okay then!" She said, "Anyway! Continue!" She said, beginning to pick up the things she'd thrown at him.
Steve shook his head with a chuckle, "She's got a girl and a boy, I don't know exactly how old they are, but one of them's still a baby. (y/n)'s just amazing! She's got the kids, but she still manages to make breakfast for them, with a smile on her face. She invited me in and immediately offered to make me a coffee, I said no, politely, but she still gave me juice."
Robin looked at him, "Wow, you're smitten!" She shouted, beginning to once again chase him around Family Video. And as Steve was running away, he couldn't help but question it... Was he smitten?
Yeah, yeah he was.

“Damn it.” Eddie muttered to himself and closed her door, rounding the van to hop in himself, “And for your information, kiddo… I don’t like like him. He's just… easy on the eyes, okay? He’s probably happily married anyway.”

Wip Wednesday
The King is dead, Long live the King
Living in a trailer was something he was not used to quite yet but loved nonetheless. He had spent almost twenty years living in Loch Nora in a house too big for him alone so moving out had been quite the experience, despite the circumstances.
Unlocking the door, he could hear the happy screeches coming from inside and the sound of feet running clumsily toward the door. He opened the door and kneeled down to catch the little bullets coming at him.
"Hi baby." he said around the mouthful of dark curly hair. Arthur's hair was becoming longer and messier day after day. He still remembered the day he got him in his arms; all tiny and soft in his little onesie, looking all adorable with his cute tuft of black hairs. He had grown quite a bit since then.
Arthur was trying to climb on him like he was a jungle gym, clingy little shit that he was. He got up, Arthur still in his arms and went to his room to put his bag down.
"Someone sneaked into my bedroom, again." he said looking at his messy bed, cover thrown around. Arthur ignored him, busy playing with his hair. He should think about cutting that too.
Max was conked out on the sofa, probably took a nap with Arty. He mustn't have been awake long then. Fuck, he's not going to go back to sleep in hours.
Putting the toddler down near his toy box, he went into  the kitchen to start dinner. He thought about what he could make -for himself, arty and Max- he opted for some mac'n'cheese, easy and quick; perfect for a toddler. He didn't like the premade stuff though he kept boxes of the stuff around because the kids did like it and Arty did too.It was almost done when Max came stumbling in the kitchen half asleep with Arty up in her arms. He's going to become one clingy toddler with all the holding people are doing.
"Hey kid. You can put him in his highchair, take your plate and it's almost ready."
"Thanks" she mumbled as she sat down. He sat down once he served everyone. He asked how babysitting Arthur went.
"Went fine. Having a hard time putting him to sleep, he gave up around an hour or so ago. Did you find someone?"
He sighed. Everything had been wonderful, he was happy -happier than he had been in years- but it didn't mean it was easy. Hadn't been then and still isn't now. The problem right now was that he needed a babysitter. Feels like a joke, the babysitter needing a babysitter. The kids were starting school in a few days, Robin and he were sharing most of their shifts now and she would start school soon too. He was running out of options, apart from taking Arthur with him to Family Video but he wasn't sure Keith would appreciate that.
"I'll find something. Don't worry." he tried to reassure her. He knew he wasn't fooling anyone but he was the adult here. She didn't need to know that he was struggling to find someone to watch over Arthur, someone that he could trust.
They finished eating without bringing the subject back on the table. Arthur made a mess -for a change- he wiped his hands and face quickly before pulling him out of the highchair and sitting him down on the floor. He put the plates in the sink to watch later. He put on his coat and put one on Arthur.
He walked Max back to her trailer. She told them goodnight, made some faces to Arthur making him giggle before she went in. He turned around ready to go home himself and spent another sleepless night when he saw someone else outside. He jumped, hugging the toddlers closer to his chest. He sighed in relief when he recognized his neighbor. Wayne if he remembers right.
"Hello sir." he said as he walked closer to the older man.
"Just Wayne's fine, kid." the other man snorted. "Ya out late. And who's that?"
Sometimes he forgot that he had Arthur for less than a few months.
"Yeah I had a closing shift today. And this Arthur, say hi Arthur !" Arthur had started to imitate people, it started with winking which he couldn't do so he just blinked really hard and then he started to wave hi and goodbye when asked him to. Arthur lifted his head to wave at Wayne (in the wrong direction of course) making the other man chuckle and wave as well. "I was just walking Max back home, she was babysitting for me."
"Heard ya had trouble finding one too."
He grimaced. He knew exactly where he heard that but he had to give it to him for not ratting them out.
"The kids' are helping but school is starting really soon, yeah. Bit of a deadend on this part."
"If ya need one, ya know where I am."
"What? No, I couldn't bother you with that, you already work night shift I can't-"
"I'm offering, kid. I already have enough noise with my nephew, I'm sure this little guy can't beat that."
"I'll think about it. But, thank you Wayne. That's really nice." he didn't want to outright refuse, it wouldn't be polite but he still felt uneasy about using Wayne's like that.
"Don't worry about it.If ya need anything, me and my nephew are happy to help."
He smiled, waving goodbye. Once home he set Arthur back down, letting crawl around.
He swore to himself that night that he would not bother Wayne with his shit. He will find something eventually, he always does.
-------
A week or so later he was knocking on Wayne's door to ask for help except that it was not Wayne who answered the door, it was Wayne's nephew.
And then he realized that his neighbor with whom he was talking and the nephew said neighbor had was Eddie Munson.
Fuck.
Arthur is an OC child, he's around 1yo and he's Steve half brother. For the background story : Steve's Dad cheating wasn't new to anyone but at least he was careful until he wasn't. First they wanted to just give Arthur to Steve to take care off. Away from the eyes, away from the heart or some bullshit like that but without saying too much that didn't work out like he wanted. Arthur is very similar to Steve physically speaking beside the hair. He could pass as Steve's son better than Steve's brother. I've been sitting on this idea for weeks and now that i'm back in the game (unfortunate since its exams weeks now) I will try to work on chapter three of Ghost on Film.

Imagine Dustin having a ‘Bring your Parent’ Day in School and he comes in with Eddie and Steve, because his mum has to work that day.
Steve and Eddie sitting with all the other parents on one table, chatting with Joyce and Karen and giving parenting tipps.

just posted the seventh chapter of Soccer Dads if you'd like to read :)
Sometimes as a single parent, you gotta look out for other single parents. But sometimes Steve and Eddie look out just a little more than usual.
