The Good Citizen

An AU where Izuku is just an ordinary boy. He never meets All Might and has his application for Yuuei's entrance exam rejected because of his quirkless status. He still wants to be a hero, but then again, he's just a normal kid with a mom who works two jobs, and since he failed to get into his dream school, he still has to get into another one, he doesn't have time. to go to the gym or learn to fight, or whatever. And yet, he wants to be a hero, so he grabs a pair of old skates and a stick. And he sneaks out the window at night, intending to be a vigilante.

But like a normal boy, he's a bit of a coward, so when he encounters his first crime, instead of getting involved, he calls the police. He calls the police and hides and is delighted when a police car arrives a few minutes later and does its job. And then he repeats that, goes out, finds a crime and calls the police. And repeat. And the next time, he identifies himself as "Good Citizen" when the person on the line recognizes his voice. And the name sticks. And Izuku keeps it, thinking of it as a way to keep his identity safe. But one day, 'The Good Citizen' calls the police on a group of men beating up a guy. And next he stops a man from harassing a girl.

The mens who beat the guy are part of a powerfull gang and their high-rankers discovers that the person who reported them was the same person who has been making several reports. The old man who harassed the girl was an important member of the HPSC, whose arrest creates a huge scandal

With this he successfully angers the villains and the HPSC all at once. Next week there's a bounty on 'snitch's head. And an arrest warrant for the vigilante who is 'an enemy in the making for the society of heroes'.

Then a race begins, villains and heroes mobilizing to kill/arrest one (1) well-intentioned green bean.

And, out of nowhere, this all becomes Aizawa Fucking Shota's problem.

There were so many amazing fics in 2023, so many new people and friends I met because of fanfic <3 So here’s to a very good 2024, full of words and worlds!

The Fine Line Between Hormones and Home by seekingmoonscapes (Bad Buddy: The Series)

In an almost canon universe where the only difference is that it is omegaverse, Pat is an omega, and Pran is an alpha. And during one of his heats, Pat is at home, and decides to ask Pran for a shirt with his scent to help with his heat. But instead, he asks Pran for help in other ways. Fic where the porn IS the plot, everything is super consensual, and sexy and hot. Alternating POV, so on Pran’s pov we get to see all the pining.

February -

If Never Again, If Every Day by gallifreyburning and takiki16 (The Old Guard)

This fic was wonderful from beginning to end. For reasons, 2021 Nicky goes back in time to Jerusalem and his first death at Yusuf's hands. Meanwhile, 1099 Nicolò goes forward in time to 2021 and meets Joe. It's heartbreaking and loving and funny and so full of love. Nicky and Joe miss each other even when around their younger versions. But the love they feel for each other is stronger than that. Wonderful story, happy ending.

March -

Wooing the Water Tribe by lenaballena (ATLA) @dameferre

Sokka has been living in the Fire Nation as Zuko's second in power and his best friend and everything. When Katara comes to visit, Sokka thinks Zuku is courting her. And he realizes he is also in love with his best friend. Lots of pining. There's absolutely no courting of Katara. It's also really funny. My heart broke for Sokka at some moments.

April -

The Grand Unified Theory of Shen Qingqiu by 00janeblonde (SVSSS)

WIP - This story is all fluff and no angst, like the tags say, slice of life and it's wonderful. SQQ dies at Maigu Ridge, and is offered to acquire the Game Plus, where he can go back to the past with his cultivation and memory intact, and try again. Doing that he discovers that he is actually the real Shen Jiu reincarnated, and he can try to recover memory markers to be able to restart the "game" even before than when he first "transmigrated". His friendship with YQY becomes strong, LQG also becomes his friend (it's really sweet how he wants his friends back). Everything is very soft. Absolutely great teacher SQQ.

May -

but for me, there is a storm by Authoress (Haikyuu!!) by @kiribakus

An epic pacific rim au. Hinata and Kageyama are both cadets who want to be Jaeger pilots, but they cannot get along. So they work really hard because they are their last hope to pilot a one of a kind Jaeger - a Kaiju/Machine hybrid. They solve their problems in the beginning (and then later they have more problems). Hinata and Kageyama are not the only main characters, other characters are also very important and have their own storyline and pov. This story is heartbreaking as well. There's MCD, and it made me cry so hard I got puffy eyes. It's a wonderful read, and very well written.

June -

The UA Analyst Kid by RogueVector (BNHA)

Izuku meets the UA teachers before getting OFA and they see how good his analysis is, so they start to train him (together with some other heroes). But some things don't change and Izuku still meets All Might and gets offered OFA. This story is funny, sweet and with amazing relationships. Izuku is OP with his intelligence and training. All the teachers and heroes are so supportive and good. A really feel good story.

July -

Deku? I think he’s some pro… by Clouds (BNHA)

After All Might told Izuku he can't be a hero, he finds himself in a forum used by some underground heroes and offers his analysis to them, since he can't be a hero, he will help them. The underground heroes think Izuku is some kind of retired pro when they ask for help analyzing some villains and all, and when they finally meet face-to-face they all decide to practically adopt Izuku and teach him to fight so he will have a chance to be a quirkless hero. It is amazing! Also, the relationship between Izuku and the underground heroes is more like friends than teacher-student, and it's amazing that way. (some All Might bashing - be warned)

August -

Mobius by Foxquills (BNHA) @fox-quills

WIP - I love this story so much!!! Third-year Izuku is sent to the past because of a quirk accident, to the time both Shouta and Hizashi are third year students at UA. Problem is, according to Nedzu, time is constant, or a loop, so he can’t change anything in the past, and everything that has happened, will happen again. He becomes fast friends with both Shouta and Hizashi, and starts crushing on them as well. Both Hizashi and Shouta also start crushing on him. It is lovely. There’s pain. It’s awesome. (also omegaverse).

September -

Factory Settings by Anonymous (Good Omens)

Post season 2 au, because Crowley follows Aziraphale to heaven. Things happen, and instead of Crowley, there is Raphael, without any memory of all the time he's lived as Crowley. Heaven and Hell are at it again. Aziraphale has no idea what to do, and he misses his Crowley. Muriel is a sweetheart. Both Aziraphale and Crowley/Raphael povs. Great story, feels very much canon.

October -

Justice in Defiance by Foxquills (BNHA) @fox-quills

WIP - Aizawa is a hero turned villain who kills both heroes and villains alike. And one day Izuku finds him right after he kills someone. They fight. And now Izuku needs to know more. What made Aizawa turn????? To do that, he will also need Hizashi in his corner. Absolutely lovely story!!!! The povs are amazing. The feelings and pining are perfect.

November -

If I Must Starve (Let it be in Your Arms) by Igneum807 (The Witcher)

So think about the softest story involving Jaskier and touch-starved witchers, and this is the result. During his travels alone, when he and Geralt go their different ways for a few weeks, Jaskier meets Geralt's brothers, who are just as touch and companionship-starved as Geralt was before meeting Jaskier. It's super soft and tender.

December -

Cultivate: Slow Life on a Monster-Infested Mountain by NeonGhostCat (SVSSS) @neonghostcat

When SY transmigrates, the System tries to put him on SQQ's body, but SQQ is aware and is able to stop it from happening. The System then gives SY his own body, but something goes wrong with the system and SY is decided to not get involved with the plot, or with Cang Qiong Sect, and specially SQQ. He finds an abandoned mountain, with an abandoned house there and decides to stay there until he is strong enough if SQQ finds him and wants to kill him. Obviously things cannot be that simple. Now he is stuck on the mountain he can't get out of, every full moon night there are monster attacks and one day LQG appears on the Mountain, how can he get out of helping with the plot now? Shen Yuan is absolutely perfect on this fic. I love how he deals with the mountain and its beasts and plant-life. Liushen is the softest you'll see. Slow burn, super domestic, feel good story.

Complicated Creation by Elemental

Anyone who hasn't read this, probably should immediately. I re-read this around four times a year, so I've lost track of the amount of times I've re-read it in total.

Truly visionary ideas about quirks, that creates a brilliant new perspective on evolution and society within BNHA. This is an AU, the story does not follow the plot of BNHA.

Pacing, story, and character development is creative and extremely well-written. I love the dynamic between Izuku and Aizawa.

As usual when I absolutely adore a fic, I wish there was a sequel or something, but this was beautifully well crafted, so the story does conclude nicely.

Shouta after the Hospital War arc, getting used to his eyepatch and prosthetic. New injuries, new scars, new ways to deal with them.

Then there's Eri.

Eri who watches him in his peripheral as he's putting his eyepatch on as he's getting out of bed, as he straps his prosthetic on and then makes sure his pants cover it up. Who sees him always, always careful of the scars, keeping the eye covered and the stump in a special sock.

He wonders why at first, thinking perhaps she's worried about him, or that maybe she thinks he looks too different.

Then one day the straps to his eye patch break, and she panics.

PANICS.

"Eri, it's fine," Shouta says, even as she frantically starts looking for anything to try to fix the straps.

"It isn't!" she says, tears forming and her tiny hands shaking. "You're just saying that!"

"I'm really not," he says. "My eye will be okay until I get home."

"But everyone will see your scars!" she wails.

Shouta frowns. "What?"

"Y-your scars, A-a-aizawa-san!" she repeats, starting to hiccup as she sobs. "You - you're covering them up, and now everyone will see them, and - and I'm s-sorry I can't h-help!"

As Eri cries, loud and wailing with crocodile tears rolling down her cheeks and her hands messily and uselessly trying to wipe them away, Shouta sees her clothes.

Her long sleeves. Her turtleneck. Her thick tights under the floofy skirt.

His heart aches as everything clicks.

"Eri," he calls. "Hey, come here."

He pulls her into a hug, rubbing her back and calming her down, and waits until she can breathe properly again before attempting to explain to her.

He doesn't wear the eyepatch to hide his scars - he wears it to protect what's left.

"It's the same with my leg, too," he says, patting just above his knee, and Eri looks down. "I can't risk dirt or germs getting in, or I might get an infection. If that happened, I couldn't go back to fighting villains."

Eri sniffs, thinking for a moment. "...Really?"

Shouta cracks a small smile. "Really."

"You..." She wrings her small hands, voice quiet. "You're not...ashamed...?"

"No," he tells her, squeezing her shoulder gently. "I got these scars because I was..." He thinks for a moment. "Fighting bad guys.

There's nothing for me to be ashamed of."

Eri bites her lip, and she looks at her own arms. "Oh."

"Hey." Shouta tips her chin up so that she's looking up at him again. "You don't have anything to be ashamed of, either, alright?"

"But..."

Shouta takes a deep breath - this is still a sensitive topic with Eri, but perhaps it's time to broach the subject for this conversation. "The one who hurt you. You'd say he was a bad guy, right?"

"Y-yeah..."

"Maybe even one of the worst of them all."

Eri gives a small nod.

"Well, I know it might be hard for you to understand right now, but you'd been fighting him for a long time. It was because of you that Midoriya and Togata were there to fight him, you know."

Eri's lip trembles.

"So, if anyone ever asks..." Shouta continues gently.

"You got your scars by fighting bad guys, too."

Eri sniffs once, twice, and then throws her arms around him as she cries.

After that day, she doesn't watch him put on his eyepatch or prosthetic anymore. Instead, she starts wearing short-sleeve shirts and shorts with a smile.

I fully believe that Aizawa has stormed into the teachers lounge muttering obscenities and everyone in the room immediately just goes, “oh fuck, what happened with Midoriya now?!”

Students in other classes have a game. Whenever within proximity of Aizawa, they start talking about the problem child himself and see how many times Aizawa’s eye twitches. It’s even better if he interjects himself into the conversation. The first time it happened, no one expected it. A group of third years were just hanging out when they see Aizawa.

Ah, the perfect time. He’d just come out of training with the hell class.

They start talking about midoriya’s little. Solo mission that he had decided to take a while ago.

Literally all it takes.

Aizawa is there in an instant talking about hoe reckless that kid is and how he’s going to get, not only himself killed, but how Aizawa himself is going to pass out from the stress of having to care for his problem child.

It’s terrifying

It’s the most emotion any of the students had ever seen coming from Eraserhead, the infamous asshole of UA.

The most surprising part? Aizawa is also talking about how proud he is of that dumbass and how he’s already a great hero, just wait until he graduates

Mina gets a video of it, because of course she does, and shows it to izuku later. We already know that he cries.

Please help me find this fic!

I read a MHA fanfiction a while back that I quite enjoyed but don't know how to find now.

If I'm remembering correctly, in the fic Izuku finds out he really did have a quirk when he trusts Aizawa. His quirk is that once he trusts someone completely, he gains their quirk. I can't remember if it was a "bad parent Midoriya Inko" or one where she had passed. Either way, I really want to reread so if anyone recognizes it, please let me know!

Does anyone ever think about how Aizawa was literally right outside of the Todoroki house in episode 2 of season 5?

I present a random fanfic idea I had floating around.

Natsuo is seen standing outside afterwards, so what if he had an interaction with Aizawa?

Plus, the anime added in the scene of Enji going outside too. Possibly to say some stuff to Natsuo. I wouldn’t have minded seeing that conversation because I can’t imagine it went well.

But here’s an idea, Aizawa, being a hero and semi-friend of Shoto’s, sees this and helps Natsu!

Shinsou’s Descent

Shinsou just wants to be a hero. However, after an encounter with the League of Villains and influenced by Stain’s ideals, Shinsou’s eyes are opened, and his dreams of becoming a hero twist into something darker.

He sees the dark side of heroism, and when he’s eventually given the chance to become the hero he’s always wanted to be, he’s not sure he wants it anymore. Torn between two people he cares for, a villain and a hero, Shinsou descends into an internal battle.

Whumptober Day 28 - Sacrifice

Aizawa knows what the media paints heroes to be: he sees it in the wide shining eyes of kids that ask Mic for his autograph and in the desperate faces of those he saves. A devotion and trust so utter it's almost frightening. It does frighten him sometimes, sending him slinking away from scenes once everything is secure and he can disappear unnoticed.

He knows what All Might conditioned the world to believe: heroes are pillars. Heroes are always ready, always there to save the day, willing to sacrifice everything if it will save civilians from the evil of the world.

He also knows that's bullshit. No hero can stand on their own. He's seen what that life has done to Toshinori, the shell it turned him into. He's seen what the media and the public do to heroes who fail to live up to that impossible standard; he's seen what happens to vigilantes who get caught doing everything heroes do but without the social or official credentials.

Heroes are human too.

So he teaches that. He teaches heroics his way. To avoid another All Might. He emphasises teamwork, fails entire classes who refuse to see the need for it or those who insist that heroes should stand alone.

And then he gets a new 1-A.

In the beginning, he thinks this might be another scorched earth class: full of personalities that clash and kids that, on the outside, seem to be set against his philosophy and eager to prove only themselves.

But then, they prove him wrong. Over and again, they work together: in training, in the licensing exams, in situations they should never have been put in that still give him nightmares. He starts to think that maybe his lessons are sticking, that this will be the one class he can push through UA, confident in knowing they won't try to be the next All Might.

And then Izuku disappears. Leaves carbon copy notes for everyone (he's pretty sure) that spill his secrets. And Aizawa is angry: at All Might for putting such ridiculous pressure on a child to keep a secrete and hold up a legacy Aizawa has never agreed with in the first place. He's angry at the world who told Izuku he needed to be that way and at the kid for believing it. But he's also angry at himself: for not doing enough to stop Izuku's reckless, self-sacrificing tendencies, not being enough to shout down the collective voices of the media and public opinion and Izuku's own hero.

He doesn't sleep much, after that. Mic sits with him in the wee hours despite his insistence that he's fine. Mic's known him long enough, suffered him long enough, that he knows better. He listens as Aizawa questions himself and his philosophy and picks holes in everything he's believed since Obouro. Mic listens and then Mic talks: offers reminders about the rest of the kids. How they're teaming up to fight for their place in the search, planning, strategising so that no one is alone and they'll get "stupid fuckin' Deku" (to paraphrase Bakugou) back together and "beat some fuckin' sense into him". Aizawa might have to have words with him about that one.

It helps, to know that his lessons have been enough; that this 1-A has learned and grown more than he'd expected and, at Mic's insistence, that he's helped make them that way. It's not enough to fill the hollow in his chest. But it helps.
