The make-shift communion wafer spackle is by far my favourite wild and outlandish detail that's been completely left out of Dracula adaptations because between van Helsing having to source those, the dubious way of this even really being a thing and working, and just overall being a great example of Stoker's somewhat loose grasp on Catholicism, I get why people leave it out, but it's so fucking funny, and it floors people every time I tell them about it it's great

That one paragraph from Jonathan Harker’s 3rd Oct entry is still on my mind so I wrote. A thing.
The buildings roll by the train window, growing denser as they approach London proper. Jonathan watches them pass as he lets his pen hover over his journal.
He’s sat a little apart from the rest of his companions, who are themselves engaged with their own work. Van Helsing and Seward are reading more of their endless articles, combing for every last drop of information they might need, while Lord Godalming and Morris talk quietly, heads bent together. He made excuses for want of privacy as he journals, but that’s not quite true. They can’t read his shorthand, and at any rate will know his thoughts later when Mina transcribes them. For now he simply cannot bear sitting next to they who have loved Lucy and yet sent her into the hands of God.
Jonathan runs his finger over the edge of the little bit of wax remaining on his journal from the broken seal. He’s been trying not to think and to keep busy, but even as he wrote his mind was all occupied with thoughts of Mina – which is, truthfully, the usual state of things, except that he’s thinking of how Mina had determined to die if she suspected herself of turning, and the look in her eyes as she turned to Van Helsing. He contemplates the weight of the kukri knife in his travelling bag overhead, and does not notice the gentleman looking for a seat who startles at him and moves hurriedly away.
There is only one body he would let that blade touch, and Jonathan would pull down heaven and tear up hell to plant it in the creature who made it even a question that Mina’s life could become forfeit. An existence without her would be as undead as that of the monster he seeks to end. Yet he understands the likelihood of failure, and if it is he who is to be forfeit, and Mina who must continue alone for centuries in that endless mockery of life…
He cannot stay in the grace of a God who would reject Mina and marr her. If God has deemed her unclean then so too is he, for have they not entwined their souls in His sight? Jonathan would take on this judgement joyfully, for he has no use for a heaven that would not include their love in its conception. There is no love he can feel for Mina that can be unholy. There is no Mina that he would not love.
Jonathan touches his neck absently as he returns pen to paper.
To one thing, he writes, I have made up my mind…
