One of my favourite places - the Faras Gallery.
„Faras (formerly Ancient Greek: Παχώρας, Pakhôras; Latin: Pachoras; Old Nubian: Ⲡⲁⲭⲱⲣⲁⲥ, Pakhoras) was a major city in Lower Nubia. The site of the city, on the border between modern Egypt and Sudan at Wadi Halfa Salient, was flooded by Lake Nasser in the 1960s and is now permanently underwater. Before this flooding, extensive archaeological work was conducted by a Polish archaeological team led by professor Kazimierz Michałowski.”
„The cathedral was founded by bishop Aetios in 620 and then twice rebuilt: by Paulos at the beginning of the 8th century and Petros I at the end of the 10th century. The subsequent buildings were called after these bishops. The cathedral had been completely filled with sand thanks to which its structure and decoration were well preserved. These paintings are the best surviving examples of Christian Nubian art and depict portraits of archangels, mainly Michael, various monarchs and bishops of Faras, Christian saints, Virgin Mary and a number of Biblical scenes. They were executed in tempera on dry plaster, on several layers dated from the 8th to the 14th century. Of the 169 uncovered paintings, 120 were taken down from the walls. Sixty-six of them were transported to Poland and are today on display in the Polish National Museum in Warsaw, and in Sudan National Museum in Khartoum. In addition, a major pottery workshop was found.
Thanks to the discovery of the List of Bishops of Faras, it was possible to date each episcopate and thus to establish the date of some of the wall paintings.
In the turbulent later years of Christian Nubia, Faras seems to have declined and the administrative centre moved to the more easily defended area of Qasr Ibrim.”

Just a PSA that "anonymous" and "confidential" employer surveys are not anonymous or confidential.
I just got a reminder that I have not filled out my survey, and there were 12 other employees CCed on that email. How did they know we specifically have not done the survey yet? Also now I know who has not done the survey, not exactly taking this confidential information all that seriously are we.
I am sure there is some HR/legal reason for making this claim but honestly I would have done the survey if it was not for the straight up lie that my name would not be tied to my answers.

June 24th: The Brides: Hey, Drac, your pet, that you said we would be able to have soon, is escaping out the window. Dracula: No, that was me, I'm wearing his clothes as part of a Scheme (c). Dracula: Don't worry about it. June 25th: The Brides: *watching Jonathan carefully scale the walls* The Brides: ...There goes the Count again. That's fine.

There are many explanations of why Mrs. Westenra decides to enter her daughter's bedroom in the middle of the night, and simply throw away all of the garlic flowers.
I know the doylist reasons behind Mrs. Westenra decision of throwing away her daughter's flowers. I know how the narrative needed more blood to oil the gears of the story. I know this was needed to wake up Van Helsing from his state of "don't ask because I won't tell".
But I just can't fathom why.
None of this would have happened if Dracula wasn't so offended that Lucy did not die when he drained her to the point of needing Arthur's blood. The fault lies on this monster who is enjoying this slow torture process because this poor young lady has people around that care about her. Dracula has been causing all of this.
And I still ask myself WHY.
The fault lies in Van Helsing? Absolutely, he thought that communication and explanation were not important enough while treating Lucy, and that decision smacked him in the face as he keeps losing time.
AND YET WHY, WHY THROW AWAY LUCY'S FLOWERS. THOSE WERE HERS.
It's not only the act of throwing away the flowers in the middle of the night while Lucy is sleeping, which is disregarding of Lucy's privacy. It's how smug Mrs. Westenra is after it, telling the two doctors who have been treating Lucy since the beginning.
Think about for a second! Jack and Van Helsing are established as Lucy's doctors. Both of them have been visiting her every day. Then, suddenly a bunch of strong smelling flowers appear in Lucy's room after they left. Yes both of them made the mistake of not telling anyone that the garlic flowers were medicine. However, Mrs. Westenra didn't even question what those were!
Think about the situation! WHO WOULD HAVE LEFT THESE FLOWERS IN LUCY'S ROOM. WHO IS VISTING LUCY FREQUENTLY ENOUGH TO LEAVE FLOWERS THAT SMELL SO STRONG. Jack is starting to lose hope already.
"What does it all mean? I am beginning to wonder if my long habit of life amongst the insane is beginning to tell upon my own brain."
Yet the only thing replaying in my mind is how happy Lucy felt yesterday. She woke up in the middle of the night to write about how happy she was because of the flowers, the care, the words, everything. Lucy even liked the smell of garlic! It was comforting! She was going to have her first time of good sleep in ages.
Those garlic flowers carefully put in all of her room, that beautiful flower wreath around her neck made by the doctor. Ripped away while Lucy was sleeping and vulnerable by a mother who thought that she could because those flowers are just in Lucy's room, so it means they are not important.
All of Lucy's flowers were thrown away. At least Ophelia got to keep hers.
Can this woman treat her only daughter like a person for once?

Jonathan, meeting Van Helsing for the first time: Hi! :)
Van Helsing, physically holding him up to the light to look for Signs of Shock and Headfuckery: Well, that can’t be right. I heard you were all kinds of wrecked
Jonathan: Oh, I was. But then you confirmed my two-month stay in Transylvanian Vampire Hell was real, so now I’m better :)
Van Helsing, still mentally preparing himself for a hell of a time convincing Jack that vampires are a thing: ...
Jonathan, all heroic-to-vengeful sunshine: Are we going to fuck up the Count now? :)
Van Helsing, close to tears: God, yes

The most in love woman in all Hollywood—Carole Lombard. Watch pictures of Clark and Carole together. Carole either clings lovingly to her husband’s arm or gazes adoringly into his eyes. She openly tell the world with her eyes, “I love this man. He is mine.” For the most in love [girl] we dare you to find any that surpasses Carole Lombard with her Clark. - Movie Mirror, May 1941

the hitch in van helsing's words when he says "i beseech you" im going to cry for real this time. it's not even simply that he knows how important it is that he gets arthur to trust him, that he's conscious of their duty to all living souls and lucy herself to do this to her and how difficult this will be physically and emotionally. it's that arthur now distrusts him, cries at him in anger - arthur, the man who looks like his lost son and whom he loves because of it. the man whose love and respect he may now never get back after suggesting mutilating lucy's corpse. he isn't just desperate for all the men in that room to trust him so they can give lucy peace and keep the living safe. that's the sacrifice of his father's heart splitting in two right there. wtf alan burgon.

okay hear me out: as a publicity stunt palmetto state’s recruiting tiktok account does little gimmicks about “a day in the life” of various students. the foxes are approached that one of them needs to make one. the obvious one here is allison, she’s rich and pretty and could make it all seem fabulous. but she got out of public view, things like this is exactly what she left behind. no one else is willing, except a manic andrew. ultimately, they end up not being able to post andrew’s since it’s full of him skipping class, smoking in his dorm, and random close up shots of neil actually doing schoolwork and studying. but for a day andrew has access to a palmetto state social media account and the worst he does is be gay

Van Helsing: I had best go look in on the unhappy couple. They will need strengthening of the spirit, and corn metaphors, in this time of despair. Van Helsing: Why is Mina on the ceiling? Jonathan: We wanted to see if she could walk on walls. Mina: Jonathan, look! Jonathan: :D Van Helsing: Harkers, turning into a damned Un-Dead is not a game.
