Mari's Note: So I had this dream with him and a cat and I felt compelled to write something with it lol. Surprisingly, it came out sorta cute than I thought <3

"No. Absolutely not, I would not agree to such a proposal."

"Aww, why not?" You raise its paw waving it as if saying hello towards a certain grumpy lover while you support the feline with your free hand, keeping it close to your chest. "I think it'll be beneficial to keep it."

Minutes prior to your arrival, you had overheard high pitched whines directing from a secluded alleyway that was surrounded by stagnant puddles as a result of the dreary rain that just occurred.

Discovering the source, you were met with a surprising sight of a cat in a box, finding solace in the warmth of a battered newspaper, eyes wide and seemingly clueless from the situation it was in. You ofcourse had fallen in love and before you came to your senses, you were already in front of the door with said cat. 

It's rather unusual for you to make a grandiose request to Veritas, being satisfied with what you have and had been given, you are never used to asking for anything more. Perhaps it was intuition that struck you and you decided to stick with it.

"What a preposterous idea. I do not need some creature's mouth to feed." Veritas sighs, his hand rubbing his forehead. "Such a despicable thing would have the potential to create chaos and disruption to my work and research."

You raise your eyebrows, "Oh? Who said you'll take care of it? I'll fully take responsibility."

"Please?" You press, "The poor thing must have been starving and besides, we need a friend at home." 

"Good grief, have you even acknowledged the fact that the Felis catus species possess only an average IQ of 2?" He sighs as you shoot him a pleading gaze, the cat mewling in your arms, unaware of the doctor's insult.

With a hard look, he huffs and finally gives in. 

"Fine, only if you were to provide adequate training, necessities, complete supervision and most significantly, establish proper behavior, I may allow your preposition. However!" he halts. "If it interferes with my research and our house conditions, it's out."

You cheer, scurrying your feet to give a peck on his cheek, following with a stretch of your arms for the cat to do the same except it was met with a palm of his hand. "Oh no, no. Not the animal." 

You wont lie, having a new family to the household made things livelier, especially on the days where Veritas had been absent due to the Intelligentsia Guild. The cat had quite a calming effect, you were able to indulge into your work and daily schedule without the rush of anxiety on those same days. With dedicating your free time towards bonding and training the cat, you had also set aside its own space in your humble abode far Veritas's work desk and absolutely further from the intricate stone carvings in the shape of your lover. 

You also discovered that your new companion is a lovely and polite tom cat.

Veritas so far (and so good) did not seem to mind, letting the animal even roam around the living room frequently since it was a portion of the home that contained none of his papers and nor does he seem to mind the soft meows requesting for attention or inquiries of the food bowl being filled.

You are currently settled down on your couch with your darling joined with you. His eyes concentrate at a book on hand, the gentle sound of pages being flipped by the featherlight touches of his fingers fills the room alongside the occasional soft purrs of your feline friend who is nestled comfortably onto your lap. Its rhythmic breathing soothes you as you hum in content, nothing but peace and tranquility envelopes the space.

You were interrupted from your thoughts with the sound of Veritas’s book slam shut.

“Have you gotten accustomed to the new addition to our household? I am not one who engages nor enjoys the affection and sentimentality derived from owning a domesticated animal, however in your case, you seem to say otherwise.”

“Does it seem obvious?” 

You focus on feeling the softness of the cat’s fur as you carefully thread it with your fingers. His ears twitch from your intrusion, eyes shot open like he was not asleep just a second ago, he lets out a yawn, flexing his back into a wide stretch with a flick of a tail. He jumps from your lap to the couch, kneading it. You grin, muttering a totally unapologetic ‘sorry’.

The cat strolls over, a faint purr rumbling from his chest as he begins nuzzling against Veritas's thigh who visibly flinches. You notice his hand almost ready to raise, only to have it actually end up meeting upon the animal’s head which meows in delight, pressing his muzzle to the palm of your significant other’s hand, rubbing against it.

You see him cringe and tense up but you still credit his effort and beam at the sight. To see him be physically affectionate with the animal was unexpected, deep down you assumed he might have disliked the cat. Maybe he is still foreign with the change. 

“I guess so, the cat has been very therapeutic to me if I'm being honest,” you add.

He scoffs, "Although that is something I can never relate to," you don't see it, but his eyes soften a bit. 

A hand rests on top of your hair, "If it refines your cognitive performance and brain activity then I would have no objections and no reason not to accept the animal."

Veritas removes his hand and you almost miss the warmth. "Regardless, if he does not come aligned with my terms and conditions–"

"I know I know, geez. The cat has been nothing but a sweetheart." You cut him off and pout, "Isn't that right...?”

You pause.

“Uhm…”

Your partner raises a brow, "...are you implying you had never designated a name for him until now?"

You sweat, "...I haven't"

"Ridiculous."

"Well, it's hard to think of one!" you retort.

"Nonsense. You had already established a bond with him, although I would not necessarily care but I assumed it would have been natural to issue him a name.”

“You think of one then!” you puff your cheeks.

Veritas places his hand under his chin, absorbed in thought. Wait, Is he actually considering it?

“I would rather not. I am in no way having the slightest care over it as I deem it not crucial.”

You stick a tongue out to him, so much for having the tiniest belief from your heart in him. You can't help but deflate, feeling dejected that he doesn't fully welcome the cat as you expected.

For the next few days, you have been brainstorming, stubbornly attempting to choose a name, basking in countless research and books.

"Hmm, I don't like any of these." You groan in exasperation, rummaging through the pages of a book for a potential fit of a name, only to prove you no luck. Cursing under your breath, your face falls flat on the surface of a page.

A name is crucial for a pet, one to call out to, to get attached to, and to bond with, he deserves to have one like every other being. You have asked Veritas for any suggestions or if he can at least help but your actions bear no results.

With heavy defeat, you are forced to drag yourself towards the shelves for the cat's lunch. Geez you can't keep calling him just ‘cat’ forever, can you?

You spot the animal mewling over from the corner of your eye, trying to catch your attention to fulfill his hunger but notice something out of the ordinary.

Huh?

You see that he is wearing...a collar?

He tilts his head curiously, looking at you with doe eyes, meowing once more. You don't recall ever giving him one, only toys and cardboard boxes he seemed to like to conceal himself in all the time.

As you take a closer look, you discover something even more odd. A silver metal hanging around the edges of the leather–a name tag.

Your fingers glaze over the tag, feeling the sturdiness of the material, seeing a word engraved on it.

'Archimedes'.

You couldn't contain the smile that goes up to your face, your heart starts to race with happiness and relief. Only one person would come up with a certain name like this.

It seemed perfect for you, to think that he chose this name seems undoubtedly much like him. 

"Just so you are aware, I had scientifically engineered the collar to be a precise fit for him, including the exact millimeters alongside taking consideration of the feline's anatomy and measurements." 

Following the sound of a voice, you see the man himself, holding a piece of graph paper of what you assume is a detailed illustration of his creation as he carries himself with elegance and confidence.

"I created it to be comfortable, durable, and lightweight. In addition to that, I installed features that can accurately measure his vitals, from heartbeat to temperature with a built-in system that will notify us if there exists any malfunctions to his vitals."

As much as you are filled with joy and gratitude you couldn’t help but feel the need to go for the tease. 

"Oh? I thought you didn't want to keep him? Hm?" your tone is mischievous but playful.

You feign being in deep thought, resting a thumb underneath your chin. "Why is there a collar in him which by the way was specifically made for him by you and named him yourself if you wanted to get rid of him oh so badly?" 

"Research indicates having a feline cultivates a productive space for effective studying. I am simply experimenting with Archimedes. It would be favorable in my end to conduct my hypothesis if there is a word for him to respond to." He crosses his arms, his eyes suddenly interested in one of his many statues from the corner of the room.

"Right. Whatever floats your boat.” 

“That is known as buoyancy.”

...this man.

You lightly flick his forehead, trying to stop him from speaking any further as to save yourself from being trapped into another one of his hours-long lectures. 

“You are a dummy, y’know?” Before he could reply, you wrap your arms around him, his body relaxes, a silent invite for you to continue, feeling the tenderness and warmth of his skin. You brushed off strands of purple locks from his face, giving him a loving kiss. 

“Thank you, Veritas."

His eyes refuse to meet yours as he is rendered speechless.

"...Idiot"

"...But honestly, Veritas, you should have just opted for a normal collar."

In the Greed to play God [Yan! Pantalone x Saintess! Reader]

He who is not content with what he has, would not be content with what he would like to have.

Due to his upbringing in poverty, he had a profound yearning for greener pastures and a warm shelter over his head. Every night at the dinner table, he desired delectable food, Pantalone was tired of the same stale bread he ate on a daily basis but he merely indulge in that thing for the need of survival. He wanted soft, undamaged clothing that would truly keep him warm in the elements, not some rag that barely covered his malnourished chest, prompting the young children from wealthy households to point and laugh at him.

Those were the sort of privileges he desired.

These, in his opinion, were necessities for the majority of humanity but privileges for the unfortunate ones who were born within the wrong womb. Why didn't the poor have access to a system that allowed them to eat or take a shower? Why must a child suffer for a parent's mistake? For a country that was responsible for being the household of mora, it was laughable how many of its citizens still linger within poverty, waiting for some miracle to occur.

Pantone couldn't frankly understand either.

The visions are believed to be granted to those with compelling ambitions, but despite having the pure resolve to acquire those privileges to lead a comfortable life, he never received one. Was he not worthy in the eyes of the Gods? Was the desire to just live insufficient? What sort of desire must one have to obtain a God's favor?

Money may not have been the world's greatest virtue, but it is the one thing that unifies civilizations and organizes its people. The world is controlled by a small piece of parchment. Certainly not the Almighty beings that are endlessly preached of across all nations. Unlike currency, God does not rule the earth.

As a corollary, money has much more power to influence people than the faith in God.

Pantalone felt a twinge of humour as he observed Capitano tugging you behind him as he led you through the Cathedral with your small hands cradled in his palm. Although he never had the opportunity to experience it firsthand, it was similar to a toddler being guided by their parents on the first day of school, completely lost and hesitant.

As you took in your surroundings slowly, your eyes glowed with wonder and danced wildly over the room. It was clear that this was your first time seeing the cathedral's beautiful architecture, clad with towering walls painted with the finest art and large colorful windows that allow a significant amount of sunlight to filtered through. The cathedral was as grand as the Tsaritsa palace, so magnificently marvellous in comparison to your parents' small tavern that now simply stood as a dull building.

Capitano visibly decelerated his steps as you and him proceeded up the enormous stairs in an effort to prevent you from tumbling backwards. A quiet apology was spoken after you managed to trip up a few steps, but Capitano's hands were soon encircling your waist to steady you, seemingly rather used to your clumsiness instead of scolding you. You managed to ascend the steps without stumbling, but you were obviously exhausted after ascending all of those stairs with the way your lips were parted and small pants escaped your lungs.

"Welcome, Sir Capitano and Lady [First Name]."

He grinned as he drank in your somewhat stumpy appearance. Despite the fact that your beauty was rather prominent, the trip to the capital must have been quite difficult based on your untidy hair and slightly soiled outfit. But you overall seem to be in good shape, something he'll applaud Capitano for knowing the man's rather brutal personality.

"Pantalone. I can trust that you have our accommodations arranged? The journey was fairly comprehensive."

Ah, straightforward as always.

His golden eyes follow you as you cower behind Capitano while he speaks. Your gaze barely lingered on him for a brief moment before it vanished when you discovered him staring at you with that smile cast on his lips. Since he had heard that you had been removed against your request from your own home after being nurtured by your parents for so long, he figured that your fearful personality was to be anticipated.

"All of the preparations have been made by my employees. Before you depart, why jot exchange a proper introduction?"

He gestures toward you after catching a glimpse of the hostility building beneath Capitano's mask. The three of you remained motionless before Capitano prodded you to speak and introduced yourself despite your obvious discomfort. Pantalone was not at all nearly as tall as the warrior, but you still seem rather diminutive in comparison to him. Could it be that you're naturally timid, therefore it makes you seem smaller than you are?

"It's a pleasure to meet your acquaintance, Sir Pantalone."

Given the strangeness surrounding him and the fact that Pantalone is a relatively foreign name in the region of Snezhnaya, you begin to question that Pantalone was even his authentic name. His name glides off your tongue somewhat smoothly despite the slight quiver within your voice.

"Please, Pantalone or simply just sir is enough for me. No need to be so formal."

He laughs just as one of the maids enters the corridor, clearly eager to accompany you and Capitano to your quarters despite his displeasure. Perhaps he'll receive a better opportunity to interact with you more later? But he supposed it's not the right time at this moment, especially not with Capitano's obvious eyes lingering on your form like a protective predator trying to secure its prey. Besides that Capitano wasn't the type to linger around him unless he needed to discuss some political or funding matter so eagerness to escape the man was rather obvious.

"I'm ready to accompany our guests to their rooms, sir."

Capitano seems to have noticed the gleam of predation hidden within the younger man's golden hues as he drew you back behind his back. Although his demeanor remains unchanged.

What an annoyingly perceptive man.

"Ah, I imagine it would be impolite of me to keep you all here much longer. Enjoy your night and please do join me tomorrow for breakfast."

Countless thoughts began to pour through his mind like a wrecking tsunami as he watched as the maid escorted you out of the main hall. Perhaps he's making the right investment this time? Well, he always makes the right investment, but perhaps indulging a prospect of his wealth to a religious factor wasn't a terrible choice?

But when given the chance, he too wasn't reluctant to charge at his prey. Perhaps Capitano should be more watchful of his little pet? Nothing in Snezhnaya, after all, is capable of eluding his grasp. He may want to be concerned about a rat breaking out at night and getting into your room, since rats are rather pesky.

But perhaps he'll be the one to save you from the rat?

We'll simply have to wait and see.

Don't be too startled to catch a glimpse of a wandering rat late at night.

Despite the fact that nothing could truly compete with the comfort of your own home, you would have to acknowledge that the chamber you were staying in was rather pleasant. The room was rather large and was covered in a fancy-like wallpaper, and the mattress was large enough to fit more than three people. It wasn't nearly as chummy as your old bedroom within your parents' tavern, but you practically felt like royalty with the insane amount of gold furniture within the room.

You snuggled under the blanket and felt taken aback by how plush it was—it almost felt like you were lounging in a cloud-like swamp.

Warm, and soft.

You steadily close your eyes as you make a conscious effort to float away into Dreamland, a pleasant smile creeping across your face. After spending the prior weeks sleeping in tents, you were somewhat grateful to finally have the opportunity to rest within a comfortable bed. But just as you're almost certain to nod off. You were abruptly awakened by a quiet knock against your door, which caused you to sit up against the headboard and call to the person.

"What is it?"

For a fraction of a second, there was silence in the air, forcing an unpleasant feeling to sweep through your gut as you stare at the door, awaiting for their answer.

"...Sir Capitano has directed that I deliver this sleeping aid. May I come in?"

At this hour? Despite the fact it was too difficult to comprehend the miniature clock above your vanity, you figured it was probably past midnight at this point. However, Capitano wasn't a stranger with the practice of foregoing sleep in order to maintain an eye on you. Therefore, maybe it wasn't strange for him to send medicine at this time either?

"You may come in."

Speaking hesitantly, you watched as the door steadily creaked open to let a young maid, possibly even younger than you, enter the room carrying a small candle.

The maid flashed you a gentle smile, strolling to the side of your bed before carefully placing the candle next to your nightstand and pulling out a small pack of medication. Her hair was knotted in two twin braids, and the candle's radiance barely highlighted the freckles within her cheeks.

You were expecting her to deliver you the medication, but instead she simply threw the container to the floor where the contents slipped into the abyss beneath the mattress. Her other hand carefully unlatched the back of her garment to show a sharp blade that shone in the moonlight filtering through the window.

"What are you doing-!"

The young girl lunges forward, her free hand clamping against your lips to keep you from wailing loudly. The blade mockingly glowed brightly as she raised the dagger in the air, evoking memories of the shooting stars your parents used to take you to see. In an attempt to buy yourself some time to free yourself from her grip, you squirm and struggle whilst pleading with her with your eyes, praying that she would take pity on you.

You momentarily caught a glimpse of hesitancy within her dark eyes. She seemed unsure of whether she was prepared to end the life of another person owing to the manner she held the blade—it was somewhat wobbly and hesitant. She was able to stifle her turmoil, though, as she attempted to strike you with the knife whilst quietly apologising.

You shut your eyes and braced yourself for a piercing agony, but all you felt was her hand slipping away from your face. As warm liquid spilled all over your body, a ferocious cry broke the air as the sound of the maid's body slumping onto the floor. The metallic smell of blood started to permeate your senses at this point, and you painfully realised what the substance was, which drove your breathing to become bulkier.

Despite the sound of delicate footsteps creeping toward your bed, you firmly kept your eyes closed due to being fearful of being disturbed by the sight of the bloody corpse of the maid.

"[First Name]."

It wasn't the usual deep, solemn voice you had grown accustomed to hearing instead, it sounded distinctive. As opposed to that, this person's voice was rich and smooth, slipping gently into your ears like a gemstone gliding upon glass. The individual steadily stroked his fingers along your face, delicately cleaning the blood from your cheeks. His fingers were frigid, perhaps colder than Capitano's, leading you to conclude that your saviour was indeed eviler than Capitano.

"Everything is fine. All you have to do now is go back to sleep."

A hand tenderly eased your head towards the pillow as he murmured, fanning his breath across your cheeks as if he were nudging you to return to sleep despite the obscurity of the situation.

Yet, you were deeply afraid.

Opting to close your eyes for the duration of the procedure, attempting to ignore how the foot of the mattress dipped a bit beneath his body as he sat down. Straining to disregard the way his fingers traced the tiny contours within your face whilst sliding your tresses behind your ears. Your subconscious was hollering at you to go to sleep, to gradually wash out the stillness of his humming, and to eventually rinse out the severity of your predicament.

Several minutes seemed to pass by at this time, and your body started to feel somewhat heavier and your thoughts started to become muddled, as if you were evaporating from your current body. You can feel his fingertips tracing along your lips as the background humming continues on, gently lulling you into sleep.

A soothing "goodnight" was spoken into your ears as you were parting, followed by the warm sensation of something damp being placed on top of your forehead. A brief opening of your eyes allows you to see dark wavy hair and a set of golden eyes that gleam in the shadows, accompanied by plush lips that curve in a mischievous smile. Before you were capable of falling asleep and wandering off again to your dreamland.

The blood that had previously been soaking onto your skin and nightgown had already been cleansed by the time you woke up the following morning. In fact, you had changed entirely into a different gown. The young maid's body, along with the blood that had been on the floor, had all vanished.

The room appeared to be completely normal, as if nothing abnormal had happened.

You hunt for the medication that the maid had formerly dropped, feeling somewhat agitated, underneath your bed frame. Nothing, not even a single dust particle, was found underneath the bed.

Was it merely a nightmare?

A number of maids accompanied you in getting dressed and guided you to slip on a breathtaking white dress that spilled to your knees and had sleeves with cuffs that reached just above your elbow. They attached pearl embellishments to your hair, giving it the appearance as if there was an unending sea of shimmering pearls within your mane.

You peek at your reflection in the mirror, a little taken aback by how unusual you seem to be. You felt very different and possibly even more sophisticated than before thanks to all of these expensive clothes and accessories. You would even get that this dress probably cost more than your parents' tavern, even if they managed to rack up a lot of money within the span of a couple months.

One of the maids led you down into the main dining area, where Capitano and Pantalone were seated. They appeared to be having a brief conversation before your quiet footsteps reverberated throughout the space, prompting them to turn their attention towards you. Following a charming smile, Pantalone motioned for you to take a seat next to him and directly across from Capitano.

"Ah, [First Name]. Here, take a seat."

You took a seat, feeling a little stiff as you adjusted the length of your dress into place before dragging the chair up to the table.

"How was your sleep last night?"

Pantalone muses as he pushes a tea cup decorated with delicate floral motifs towards your direction. If you were to judge the cup solely by its appearance, you would undoubtedly conclude that it is made of exquisite porcelain, which is more expensive than the entirety of your closet at home.

"For most part, it was alright."

You answered, taking a tiny sip of the hot tea as you could feel two sets of eyes penetrating your head as they intently listened to your words.

"B..But I did have a strange dream last night."

You acknowledge that you still find it unsettling to glance at Pantalone as you set the cup back down on the plate and peered at Capitano who wordlessly stared back at you. Something about Pantalone simply seems so unnerving, yet it could be that you've known the Captain for a lot longer.

"Oh? Would you care to elaborate?"

At this point, would they even accept your words? Even you aren't sure if what happened last night was actually the truth or if it was all just a flocking dream. There was no proof that anything occurred, not even a single stain of left behind blood.

"I..it was just a silly childish nightmare. Can we start eating, please?"

As if inviting you to do the same, Pantalone hummed at you before picking up his eating utensils. Following suit, you take the fork and knife out and carefully cut into the piece of warm bacon that is stretched out in front of you before slipping the tender piece of meat into your mouth. Even if you've never encountered any difficulties getting food for your dinner, the piece of beef couldn't be compared in the slightest to the meals your parents prepared. The beef was incredibly soft, perfectly seasoned and sweet, and it melted upon your tongue.

Pantalone seems to notice how your eyes light up as a small laugh escapes his lips, forcing your face to blush in shame.

"The food is quite enjoyable, no need to feel embarrassed."

Despite his efforts to put you at ease, you couldn't help feeling as though he was subtly mocking you and patronizing you like some sort of innocent little girl. However, you made no attempt to reply, choosing instead to merely chuckle. However, Capitano was the first to seek to initiate a genuine conversation, slamming his glass onto the table irrespective of the fact that it appeared to be an unconscious action.

"Pantalone, let us carry on the discussion we established earlier."

Curiosity piqued at his words, and Pantalone turned his attention back from you to peer at the masked man seated next to him. Apart from the water bottle he had just consumed, his supper was left unattended.

"My apologies, Captain. It appears as if I've accidentally become distracted."

His eyes momentarily lingered on your face before shifting to Capitano as he grinned. He shifted the plate to the centre of the table before propping his elbows against the wooden and resting his head onto his hands.

"Many of the children within Arlecchino's orphanage have now successfully completed their coming-of-age ritual. This indicates that many of them have the capacity to enter the war."

Children? War? Capitano actually intends to just let children participate in fighting? You were aware of how critical the situation was at the moment, yet it was still unethical to use children as troops.

"That's correct, yet I have received reports that a large number of those children lack competence across several aspects. Therefore, I do not think that funding a futile military is really appropriate."

In response to Pantalone's statement, Capitano nodded thoughtfully with his palm resting just beneath the area of his helmet that corresponds to where his chin should be. Even though you couldn't fully understand the circumstances, the wording they used while speaking regarding children was simply too callous, and the issue must be resolved in a different way.

"C.. couldn't we simply use another method that doesn't have to involve the children? If they're not well versed with military combat perhaps they could be placed as medical examiners."

Now that you had interrupted their talk, both men's eyes turned back to you, appearing a little bewildered at your suggestion. You gradually regretted meddling with their discussion once there was a brief period of stillness. In the back of your head, you're steadily creating excuses.

"Earth may be able to supply all human necessities, but not for all human greed."

Pantalone grinned, his eyes forming the appearance of a half-moon as they wrinkled. The moon was a stunningly magnificent phenomenon that gave light to the inhabitants of earth, despite its affiliation with the darkness. A beacon of light.

However, despite his outward attractiveness, the man sitting next to you seems to be the moon's antithesis—something much more ruthless and searing, precisely like the vivid flames.

"With the exception of materialism, nothing renders us more vulnerable to attacks than loneliness that comes from greed."

Despite your trepidation, you responded, directing your attention away from his gaze and maintaining a somewhat consistent voice.

Such a tenacious little thing.

Pantalone had postulated that given that you and Capitano were rather intimate, you might have been a little downtrodden and dreary to blend in better with the Captain. However, you persisted in tenaciously upholding your moral beliefs, appropriate of the Saintess, he may assert. He hoped that you would tune in on his exchange. He laughed at your determination, his voice gliding smoothly across your ears prompting you to become flustered, perhaps thinking you somehow made a fool of yourself.

U know what enrage me? That in Chile, being the country with the largest diaspora of Palestinians and their descendants in the world, say Palestinians are, a lot of them, christian conservatives, right wing, fascists. Is in the upper class neighbourhood in which the poor can't go bc is far af, u feel poorer and more brown when u go to the upper class area of the capital where the rich live behind walls bc they hate the poor. I can't buy the shirt of the football club coz is expensive af and was in fact easier and less expensive to bring a kufiya of Hebron 15 years ago. The Palestinian politicians are 99% of them seudo christian but full fascists and have supported the right wing governments since ever. Including the ones that supported the crimes of Piñera's dictatorship (torture, mutilation, rape, detentions, burning buildings like supermarkets, closing them in working class areas to control food and water, etc). Some palestinians here have huge companies and fabrics, being one of the migrant groups with more money in hands of some families which are the wealthiest of the country. And the representatives of Palestinians here, like club Palestine, have never say a thing. In every single one of the protests and riots that occurred in Chile, the Palestinian flag is high in the sky like the chilean one, the Wallmapu, the Wiphala. Palestine flag is part of our daily life as well the histories of families and friends living, working, being friends with the working class palestinians back in the day. Even now Palestinians lifes are waved in our personal histories in one way or another. There is no place in which there is not palestinian food stores or restaurants, is impossible to not see al least 1 person with a kufiya or the flag in ur daily life, I growth up with a portrait of Yasir Arafat in my house, multiple Qurans in the house, multiple kufiyas and garments, books, art, even the food become part of my household. I ĥad school mates, neighbours of the area, one of the ppl I live with went to the beautiful mosque of the neighbourhood. In one of my school trips to other region of the country they took us to the mosque there in which ppl of all religions and faiths can pray together and was built with the idea of peace and living together, all the material are native to our land, and is one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen.

The little I know of my family history is that always, always, had relationship in some one or another with palestinians and other ppl from Middle East and the Arab world (heck anyone that was a migrante also). There is even a tradition to pass the same name from one generation to another, which i can only guess was bc a palestinian or other person of the region, but don't know if was bc a friend or even maybe someone in the past married or was in love with a palestinian. I don't know how many ppl back in the blood line carried the name, I know of at least 4 in different generations, but I carry it.

I remember being a kid and placing candles and drawings with the Palestinian flag in my balcony bc we always saw the news about Palestina. I wanted peace for them, and also wandered why no one send guerrillas to help them, like the armed resistance in Pinochets dictatorship, all the South American resistances fighting dictatorships, or all the people that went from all over the world to fight against the dictatorships of Hitler, Franco, Tito, etc. Why? Why no one went to help them? Years later, I thought the same but without the innocence of then, I asked out loud and also in my mind, why no one calls for an armed resistance from all over the globe. My couple said to me that make no sense the hippie upper class family friendly park activity in the rich neighbourhood made by the Club to raise money (which j don't know why considering that, as I said, that some of the upper classes families could take money of their own wallets comfortable without worrying of not been able to pay the bills the next months, they will not loss the money) when what Palestine needs is to fight, not thoughts and prayers. Adultification happens when young children are expected to act like adults. For example, an 8-year-old who is being adultified may be expected to fully care for their younger siblings by cooking for them, making sure they attend school, doing their laundry, or bathing them daily. But that same 8-year-old isn’t as capable as an adult in many ways. They can’t always navigate social situations well, can’t reason with nearly as much efficiency as an adult, and are only starting to develop critical thinking skills.

Black children, especially, can be turned into mini-adults, which can hinder healthy developmental growth. And since development research has shown that there are important benefits of being a child, like developing social skills through play, creating memories through exploration, and learning about oneself through experimentation, if these opportunities are lost or delayed due to adultification, then consequences will occur.

Black children are often viewed as older than they actually are by their teachers, peers, police officers, and even society at large. Children who receive less help from parents—which is also common in lower-income households—may be less equipped to deal with difficulties later on in life than kids whose parents stepped in earlier. Their less advantageous upbringing may make them more likely to struggle academically or act out. They may also be more susceptible to entering a cycle of poverty, or involvement with the criminal justice system, that they'll have difficulty escaping.

As if on cue, around age 10, Black students begin getting into trouble at school. In one study, researchers found that Black students were 21 times more likely to be suspended than white students. While many factors contribute to higher rates of suspension among Black students, adultification plays a part, too. Because Black children are perceived as older, they are likely to receive harsher punishment than their white peers for breaking rules. 

Dr. El Brown, Ph.D., a family engagement strategist, and an early childhood education professor at American University says, “Working with children requires empathy and compassion. When someone sees a Black child as an adult, they don’t empathize with them as a child. Therefore, the compassionate nature that is inherently there as adults toward children is missing in that interchange.” 

But sometimes the adults who are adultifying children don’t realize they are doing it. To them, Dr. Brown suggests recognizing their own deeply-ingrained beliefs. “I don’t think that someone who adultifies a child is someone who is always doing so intentionally,” says Dr. Brown. “It’s the adults' implicit biases that make it difficult for them to view that child the same way another individual with lived experience interacting with Black children may view the child, thus leading to harsher treatment, and beyond.” 

The good news is that there are ways to help prevent adultification from happening in your home and community.

Don't Expect Too Much From Kids

It's common for parents to expect too much from their young children, particularly when dealing with achievement. For example, parents might expect children to perform at school in ways that are above their grade level. When this happens, kids aren't given adequate time to explore themselves before expectations supersede their stage of development.

"As an educator, our time with a child expires. However, parents and families are forever teachers. My responsibility as an early childhood educator is to help parents understand developmental milestones. I am empowering families to advocate for their children in instances when children are expected to act or perform above their age level," says Dr. Brown.

An educator spends about six months with a child each school year. Therefore, engagement and continuous communication between the educator, educational systems, and the parent is vital for a student's success.

"Adultificaltion is a complex issue that requires an in-depth understanding of the systems in place that have permitted this behavior in the first place," says Dr. Brown. Some of the public systems that have led to the adultification of Black youth are America's educational system and juvenile justice system.

If you want your child to enjoy life more fully, remember not only what they are capable of but also what makes sense at each stage of development.

Help Children Make Sense of the World

One way to help prevent adultification is to take part in helping young children make sense of what's happening to them. For instance, if a 3-year-old doesn't understand why their parent is going away to work while they are at daycare, talk about it together. Whenever possible, try explaining situations with empathy and age-appropriate understanding. In that situation, it would mean avoiding saying things like, "I'm going to work now," or "I have to go." Instead, say something like "I'll see you later," or "I'll be back soon."

Similarly, telling your child about grown-up topics like finances or relationships is obliging them to try to fix what they cannot control, which leads to undue stress.

Lastly, minimizing your child's reaction to a problem by saying things like, "It's not that big of a deal," implies that what they are feeling is unnecessary and that there are more pressing issues. Validating their emotions can help kids remain kids. With support from caring adults, kids can learn how to cope with challenges and separation. In turn, they will grow up to be healthy adults who are flexible and understanding.

Avoid Labeling Kids Based on Age

While it's natural to think about kids according to their age, it's important to keep in mind that there is more to each child than simply being labeled in comparison to their age group. Every child deserves to be seen and appreciated for who they are and how they behave, regardless of their age. Each person is unique, but all children deserve an opportunity to develop self-confidence, maturity, and a healthy sense of self-worth.

To avoid labeling kids based on age, avoid using words such as "little" or "big" unless talking about actual size. Instead, use descriptive terms that refer to physical characteristics instead of abstract terms that label a child according to their age. For example, instead of calling a toddler a "big boy" or a "little girl," try describing their behavior or character instead.

Consequently, actions must be taken to counter these growing trends in order to prevent unintended consequences. Parents should keep tabs on how their kids are being treated, or labeled, by teachers or peers by monitoring teacher feedback forms or speaking directly with other parents about how their children are doing at school. If your child is being labeled, take action to ensure they feel included and respected. While putting an adult label on a child is nothing new, adultifying Black children comes with adverse effects that differ from those of white children. Allowing it to happen can lead to serious emotional issues down the road.

"There should be diversity, equity, and inclusion training for all educational service providers, which will help them to be aware of their potential implicit biases so they cannot manifest in the treatment of children within their learning environment," says Dr. Brown.

I am a firm believer of good things happening to good people. You reap what you sow! If you sow good things, it will grow good things; sow bad, more bad things. However, what happens when bad things happen to good people?

At the beginning of Job, it sets the tone for what is soon to come. He was not just a good man; he was a perfect man in God's eyes. He loved God, loved his family, and even asked for forgiveness on his family's behalf. So, God should reward him for his behavior...right? There may be tragedies that occur during our time in this world, but what matters is the eternity we will spend in the Kingdom of Heaven with Him once saved, blood bought and spiritually reborn. This world and everything in it shall perish, but God and His Word and Kingdom live on now and forevermore!

May we make sure that we give our hearts and lives to God and take time daily to seek and praise Him and share His Truth with the world. May the LORD our God and Father in Heaven help us to stay diligent and obedient and help us to guard our hearts in Him and His Word daily. May He help us to remain faithful and full of excitement to do our duty to Him and for His glorious return and our reunion in Heaven as well as all that awaits us there. May we never forget to thank the LORD our God and our Creator and Father in Heaven for all this and everything He does and has done for us! May we never forget who He is, nor forget who we are in Christ and that God is always with us! What a mighty God we serve! What a Savior this is! Day of Days: A Girl’s-eye View of San Francisco Chinatown and the 1906 Earthquake and Fire

My late aunt Mildred (a.k.a. “Nimsie”) Chan grew up in a bustling, multi-generational household in San Francisco. Her daily life involved attending Chinese school after her regular classes and communicating predominantly in Cantonese, both at home and within her local community. Her childhood occurred before WW II – before the beginning of the end of Exclusion and segregation – in the tight-knit confines of the Chinatown community.

As a school librarian, Nim noticed a lack of books that reflected her own experiences as a bicultural child. While there were stories about Asia, they often portrayed it as a distant, ancient world, disconnected from modern, and even Chinese American, life. This realization fueled her desire to see more stories that depicted American children, navigating life between two cultures.

After retiring and being actively involved in the American Library Association, among other professional groups, Nim was well-prepared to author her first book, "Earthquake" under the name “Milly Lee.” The story is based on my grandmother's harrowing experiences during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.

"This morning the earth shook and threw us from our beds. We were not hurt, just stunned." The eight year-old Lily (a.k.a. She vividly describes through the childlike eyes of my future grandmother, being awakened by the earthquake, the family’s desperate packing for the flight through a devastated city, and the march west before the onslaught of the ensuing great fire.

According to scholar Chun-fang Yu, artistic expressions of the Water Moon Guanyin often depict the deity in a relaxed “lalitasana” pose beside a pond or lake with the moon reflected in the water; the moon in the water is a metaphor for the Buddhist tenet of Śūnyatā. Given the devotional popularity of Guanyin in Asian, the Chinese pioneers not surprisingly brought the worship of the Bodhisattva to California, among other deities venerated in southern China.
