I've been playing around with a gritty noir style detective story following Daichi trying to solve some affluent art heist mystery BUT Sugawara has genre awareness and follows him around telling him to stop being so dramatic
Daichi: I'd never seen a man this confident in his own alibi. Sure, it might've been airtight on the surface, but I knew if I kept looking I'd find the hole in his story that would blow the case wide open.
Sugawara, from the kitchen: HONEY YOU BETTER NOT BE MONOLOGUING TO YOURSELF AGAIN.
Daichi: no no no I'm just going over the evidence
Suga: if I come in there and you're putting red string on a cork board I'm gonna lose my shit
Daichi:
Daichi:
*sounds of corkboard being taken down*
Daichi: stay in the kitchen

“Daichi!” Coach Ukai called once he was sure that the rest of the team was distracted. The bus buzzed with all different types of energy, the main two being nervousness and excitement. They had just left the school gym not long ago, so everyone was still in the honeymoon phase of leaving for a big time tournament. If you played just an audio recording, you would be convinced that this was a bus full of preschoolers. The most prominent voices belonged to Hinata and Kageyama, who were arguing over who was taking up the most room.
Daichi sat forward in his seat to be easily heard over the ruckus. “Yes, Coach?” he asked.
Ukai had three sheets of paper stapled together in his hand. He brought the sheets that he had folded back to the front and reached behind him, offering them to Daichi, who curiously took them and gazed at the front page. It read: ‘From the Karasuno Alumnis. Good luck!’. Daichi didn't get a chance to read further because he was tuning into his coach’s instructions: “Review the packet and on the loose leaf assign rooms. Make sure everyone will get along and most importantly not cause any accidents or distress to the employees.”
Daichi nodded silently. There was an unsaid understanding to keep whatever was in this packet between them for the time being—neither of them wanting to make the bus even louder, if it was even possible. Daichi returned to his seat and looked at the cover page once more and continued reading:
Dear Karasuno Volleyball Club,
We are so excited and proud of you for being invited to the huge competition this weekend! It’s the farthest Karasuno has ever played from home in history! To celebrate and thank you for your hard work, the Alumnis (with the help of other anonymous donors) gift you 8 rooms to an actual hotel! Have fun and go out and crush them!
“An actual hotel?” Daichi jumped at the voice next to him. He was so focused on the overwhelming, heartwarming feeling he got from the letter that he didn't recognize Suga luring over his shoulder. So much for keeping it a secret.
“Hush, Suga,” he whispered into his ear. “Coach gave this to me, not you.”
Suga playfully dug his elbow into his side. “Well that’s no fun!” He took it upon himself to flip to the next page, revealing pictures of the exterior and interior of the hotel, along with the style of rooms. “Woah…” he breathed out.
Being from the country, neither of the boys have ever seen a hotel this flashy before. They knew what it was like, but only from the Internet and television. Suga leaned in, resting his head on Daichi’s shoulder as they both took in the pictures. The first one was the front view of the hotel. It was tall and narrow, reaching to where the clouds met the stars. It was taken at night, showing off the warm-lighted water fountain in the front. The next picture was the lobby and breakfast area. Just like the outside, it was huge; the biggest kitchen they have ever laid eyes on. It would fit well over five teams in it, and it seemed to have good cooking options like omelets and waffles. Next to it was the picture of the pool. Compared to the rest of the building, it seemed dull. It was a basic pool with a shallow and deep end with tables surrounding the inside—nothing too special. Lastly was the rooms, which was what Daichi cared about the most. He could tell right away that they were given the cheapest rooms—not that he wasn't ungrateful, it was better than any room he’s ever slept in by a long shot. The room contained one bathroom with a shower, one drawer with a television on top, and what looked to be one queen-sized bed.
So that’s why Coach wanted me to make room assignments, Daichi thought. Coach Ukai recognized that he didn't see the boys outside practice like Daichi has. Daichi knew more about the relations between his teammates better than him, making Daichi the perfect one to assign rooms.
“Okay.” Daichi inhaled sharply and took the pencil that was tucked between the papers in his hand and tapped it to his lip. He started out by writing ‘Room Assignments’ on the top of the page, followed by a list of one through eight.
He made the easy pairings first: Coach Ukai and Coach Takeda, Shimizu and Yachi, and himself and Suga.
“Interesting room assignments,” Suga teased after Daichi scribbled their names together.
Daichi titled his head back, pressing his forehead against Suga’s cheek, pushing him off his shoulder. “I thought it was a given.”
Suga ignored his request and placed his head back where it belonged, but this time nuzzling into Daichi’s neck, making it clear that he was not moving. “So eager,” he edged on.
“You know I would’ve gone insane with anyone else.”
Suga chuckled, “You mean you would’ve gone insane if I was with anyone else.”
Daichi pinched his eyebrows together and pretended like it wasn’t true. Suga chuckled once more and nodded in silent agreement that they wouldn't want it any other way.
He let Daichi think a little longer before he made any suggestions of what he thinks the best room assignments would be. Instead, he thought about how this was going to be his first time sharing a bed with Daichi—completely alone. Before they’ve had sleepovers, but their parents were home; other times were for multi-day competitions like this one, but those were spent in a huge room with the entire team.
Does that change anything? Suga wondered. Surely not. It wouldn’t be anymore different than a regular sleepover. He blushed from cheeks down thinking about finally getting a night with his boyfriend alone. Completely alone. The tiny drop of nervousness left his body when he started to imagine the perfect night. They would probably put on some drama and cuddle up under the sheets, most likely talking about ‘what if’ situations for tomorrow's games. Nothing different than any regular night, but they were alone, and that made it special. No worrying about—
He was snapped out of his thoughts by Daichi sighing deeply and squeezing his knee. Daichi was only able to add one more pairing: Tsuki and Yamaguchi. “Seeing as you already know…any suggestions? I think some insight from my Vice-captain is needed.”
Suga’s cheeks darkened from the nickname, but he nodded and took the pencil from Daichi and wrote in: ‘Noya and Tanaka’.
“No!” Daichi snatched the pencil back and erased the pairing. “Are you crazy?” he asked, somewhat seriously. He glared at the silver-haired boy between his furrowed eyebrows.
To his relief, Suga laughed. “Crazy in love with you.”
Daichi rolled his eyes and instinctively rubbed circles into Suga’s thigh. Using his ‘Captain voice’ he said, “You’re not allowed pencil privileges.” He lowered his voice to a near whisper, not wanting to raise attention to the others. “Those two together would be so loud and no one would get any sleep. We would surely get kicked out before we get settled in.” Suga leaned into his touch and tried to get the pencil back with no avail. He accepted his punishment and leaned back into the seat. “I was just having fun. I think having those two share a room would relieve some nerves off the team. But, being able to stay at the hotel is more important. Why don't you put Noya with Asahi? Sure they’d loved that!” he giggled.
The giggle instantly calmed Daichi, who also moved back to rest his back against the seat, placing the papers in his lap. “Do you think Asahi will accuse us of trying to set him up? We promised him that we would let things between them take their course.”
Suga shrugged. “Asahi isn't that close with anyone else on the team. I think he would be upset if we didn't. We can't risk letting our Ace get out of focus because he isn't comfortable sleeping.”
“You are so smart.” Daichi leaned in and pecked Suga’s cheek before scribbling the names down. He planned on putting them together anyways, but Suga’s reasoning was the nail in the coffin.
“It takes a genius to put those two together,” he joked. “Tanaka with Ennoshita, Kinoshita, or Narita do you think?”
Daichi ran his hand through his hair. “That’s what I’m having trouble with. Those three could really go with anyone and be fine. Tanaka is going to need someone who can keep up with his ambition, but neither encourage nor extinguish it.”
They both thought for a moment, tilting their heads in sync to the side. Suga was the first to speak. “Well Ennoshita has amazing leadership qualities and might encourage it without meaning to. He needs good sleep, and he won't get that if Tanaka gets over excited and becomes restless.”
“You know who will be able to put Tanaka in his place if he gets too riled up?”
“Who?” “Kinoshita.”
Suga laughed, placing the back of his hand on Daichi’s chest. “Oh my god he totally would! Write that down! I remember back when we played three on three and he totally dissed him about the shirt fiasco.”
“Alright, alright.” Daichi bit his bottom lip as he added the pairing. Suga shamelessly tunnel visioned on the movement and started unknowingly leaning in. Daichi was quick to notice and pushed him back—this was a regular occurrence. Suga huffed in response and crossed his arms over his chest, looking away. “Later, I promise. Help me figure out if it would be a mistake to split up the freak duo.”
Suga didn't move and kept his posture. “You don’t love me. Why would I help you? You’re the captain. Figure it out yourself Mr. ‘I know what’s best and what’s best is denying my super hot boyfriend of attention when they haven't had a chance to settle down since two days ago because I insisted on overworking myself to make sure that the take off goes smoothly Sawamura’.”
“Suga…” Daichi groaned out. “I need my super hot boyfriend’s opinion on a life or death situation right now.” Suga raised his shoulders and forcibly lowered them in protest. Although Daichi pretended like he was annoyed, he never would be. If Daichi had to pick one thing he loved about Suga the most, it would be moments like these. Moments where he was moving too fast to keep up with himself and Suga would slow him right back down before he lost his mind entirely. Suga was right, he definitely put too much effort into leaving and basically ignored him the last two days because he was so busy helping Shimizu get everything set up.
Daichi smiled to himself, knowing that he could never ask for a better vice-captain and boyfriend. He leaned up and peeked over the seat. Everyone was still distracted with one another or looking out the windows. Perfect, he thought. One hand grabbed Suga’s elbow, pulling him towards him while the other turned his jaw. He connected their lips with a chaste, firm kiss. Suga hummed into his mouth before placing a hand on Daichi’s cheek, deepening the kiss. Daichi pulled away too quickly for Suga’s liking, but he smiled just as bright.
Daichi ran a hair through Suga’s hair and grabbed the papers in his lap. “Good now?”
Suga raised an eyebrow and playfully folded his arms. “Well—”
“I promise later.” It’s not that he was trying to hide their relationship, no the team was well aware. It was just that he wanted to do his best to keep his volleyball and outside volleyball life separate, even though they were deeply intertwined. He found it embarrassingly hilarious whenever his teammates would tease them about it, but regardless he tried to keep moments like this short. “Do you think Kageyama would kill Hinata?”
Suga covered his mouth with the back of his hand as he laughed. “The fact that that could be taken as a serious question gives us our answer.”
“It is a serious question! We need at least one of them alive if we want to have a chance! I honestly think Kageyama might kill him if he disrupts his sleep.”
“I say we keep them together. I mean, maybe sharing a bed could be the final push they need to get together!” Suga made hand puppets and forced them to kiss each other.
Daichi laughed, maybe a little too loudly, and shook his head. “This isn't the point of making room assignments! We can't just put together who we think would be a good couple.”
“We already have! You know just as well as I do that as much as they seem to hate each other, they love each other more!” Suga protested. “Even if we don't consider the potential relationship that they could have, it still makes sense to put them together. For one, Kageyama is still learning what it means to be a good teammate. Not long ago he started giving awkward compliments. Putting him with someone else might be stressful when he’s still working on his social skills. Secondly, Hinata might be the only person he would be comfortable with, and even if he does mess it up, Hinata will put him in his place without hurting his feelings and be able to move on like nothing happened.”
Daichi blinked once at him, then once more for good measure. “Coach should’ve just given the list to you…” he mumbled under his breath.
Suga heard it and punched his arm. “Don't say that! You would've come to the same conclusions with some time! You play more than I do, meaning that I get to see them interact from a different perspective and pick up on these details easier than you do! Besides, you made the best pairing of all without my help!”
“Hm? And what’s that?”
Suga punched him once again. “You idiot!” He wrapped an arm around his waist with force, sending them to fall against the wall. “You and me of course! The best pairing at Karasuno!”
Daichi wrapped his arms around Suga’s back briefly and patted him before pushing him off. “Okay, okay. I get it!” he laughed. He wrote down the last two pairings and handed them to Shimizu, who handed them up to Coach Ukai. Maybe this wouldn't be such a bad trip overall.
                                                          —
This was the worst case scenario. Daichi and Suga had barely unpacked before there were six teenage boys pounding at their door.
“Please, Daichi!” Hinata begged. “There wouldn't be a pool here unless it was meant to be used!”
“Absolutely not!” Daichi replied. “I have told all of you at least three times now that we are not using the pool! Someone could slip and break a leg, or break someone else's leg, or die.”
“Please Captain!” Noya folded his hands together in a praying position. “We promise we won't hurt ourselves or each other! We’ll be good!”
Daichi looked around at the boys, his eyes resting on Asahi. “You too?” he asked.
Asahi opened his mouth to reply, but had nothing to say. Instead he moved his hands around in small circles frantically and eventually gestured towards Noya. Daichi got the message.
“N—”
“Daichi.” Daichi instantly softened when he felt Suga come up behind him and place a hand on his shoulder. He let out a shaky breath he didn’t know he was holding and relaxed his entire body. “Compromise with them. This could be a great team bonding exercise. The pool isn't going to go away, and neither are their desires. It’s not going to kill them.”
He sighed, “You just want to go swim, don't you?”
“Yes,” he replied instantly.
Who was Daichi to deny Suga of what he wanted, especially when he was so excited about it. “One hour. That’s it. But no one goes in until I get there, got it?”
“Yes, Captain!” They watched as they all scurried to their rooms to get changed.
Daichi let the door close behind him and stared down Suga, who had the widest and brightest smile on his face. He rolled his eyes and held his arms out. Suga gladly accepted and jumped into his arms, wrapping his legs around his waist and burying his face into his neck.
“You’re the best, Dai!” He pressed a kiss to his neck before jumping down and rummaging through his bags. “I don't think anyone expected there to be a pool, so I hope everyone has shorts other than their jersey shorts.”
“This is a horrible idea,” Daichi replied, pulling out a pair of red shorts from his bag.
“It’s a great idea!” Suga entered the bathroom and grabbed towels for both of them as Daichi grabbed his keycard. “The best part is that I get to see your shirtless for a whole hour! And no one can say anything about it because we’re at a pool!”
Daichi dropped his jaw a little. “Is that the whole reason you want to go swimming?”
Suga shook his head. “Of course not! It's the added bonus! Along with holding on to you, wrapping myself around you, seeing your body and hair soaked with water…”
Daichi blushed and rubbed the back of his head. “So straight-forward. What am I supposed to do with you?”
Suga grabbed his hands and pecked his nose. He felt Daichi tighten his grip and recognized how tense he was. He kissed his cheek once before letting go and rubbing his arms. “It’s gonna be fun, Dai. The more you worry, the less fun you’re gonna have. Let loose and let go a little, yeah?”
“Yeah,” he breathed out. He wrapped an arm around Suga’s waist and pulled him in for a kiss before opening the door.
He kept his hand there as they walked down the hallway to the elevator. Suga held the towels in one arm and the other held the other’s fingers at his waist. As they walked, Suga was entirely entranced by Daichi and looked up at him and listened to him talk about the rules of the pool. Suga was thinking about how he was going to break every one of them just to piss him off and show him that he’s too much in his head.
They stepped into the elevator. “Am I missing anything?” Daichi asked.
“Just a few signatures from law-makers and you’re good to go!” Suga teased.
“Shut up!” Daichi pinched at his sides, causing him to laugh. The elevator dinged, causing Daichi to kiss Suga’s temple before letting him go and meeting with the rest.
What started as six teenage boys wanting to swim, turned into the entire team. All twelve of them. Suga stayed behind and watched Daichi make his way to the front.
“No running. No intentionally drowning each other. No splashing above the head. No diving. No ‘who can hold their breath the longest’ competitions. No—”
Daichi felt the keycard getting pulled from his hand. Before he could finish his sentence, Suga unlocked the door and opened it wide. “Just don't kill each other, okay? Have fun.”
“Wait no! There’s more mannerism we need to talk about!”
It was too late. All of the boys already broke the first rule and ran inside. They all left their towels at the door and jumped in immediately. Except for Noya, who yelled “Water rolling thunder!” before rolling into the pool. Suga laughed as he helped Daichi pick up the towels and set them on a table. “Look at how much fun they’re having!”
Daichi smiled as he looked at his team in front of him. Hinata and Noya were seeing who could stand feet flat in the deep end before being under the water. Asahi and Tanaka were spiking a pool ball back and forth, seeing who could make the biggest splash with Narita, Ennoshita, and Kinoshita as the judges. Yamaguchi and Tsuki were near the stairs; he could hear Yamaguchi trying to convince Tsuki that it wasn't that cold and practically dragging him in. “Maybe it's not so bad.”
Before he knew it, Suga grabbed his hand and pulled him into the deep end. Daichi, out of surprise, came to the surface and immediately started coughing before almost being dragged down again. “Suga get off!” he laughed. Even though he was taken by surprise, he still loved it. It was just five seconds out of his day, but it was five seconds he would remember for the rest of his life.
Instead of getting off, Suga tightened his hold on Daichi. His legs locked around his waist and arms wrapped around his shoulders. Luckily for him, Daichi was strong and was able to keep them both above the water despite not being able to touch. “I can't swim!” he claimed.
“You are so lying!” Daichi smiled and swiped Suga’s hair out his face so that he could look at him clearly. “You know that I know that you can swim just fine!”
Suga lowered his head to Daichi's shoulder and squeezed him. “Well I forgot how to swim today.”
Daichi rolled his eyes but let him stay there. He must admit it was a compelling argument.
“Daichi! Suga!” Noya called over. Daichi was about to let go of Suga, but Suga pressed his nails into his back—his way of telling him that no one cared and to stop thinking for once in his life. “Asahi and I challenge you to a game of Chicken!”
“Chicken?” Daichi questioned.
Suga pushed Daichi away and started to swim over. “Oh you are so going down!”
“Suga!” Daichi called, swimming after him. They got to the more shallow part, where their shoulders were just above the water. “What’s Chicken?”
Noya pushed Asahi’s shoulders down and climbed on top of them, displaying what to do. “Whoever falls down first loses!”
“And it's going to be you!” Suga splashed them, making them both laugh. “Get on bottom, Daichi.”
“Since when am I the bottom!” Daichi protested. Tanaka whistled from the other end of the pool, making Daichi turn red because he didn't realize that it would echo that loudly in the room. “Shut up!” he called.
Suga laughed as he pushed Daichi down and wrapped his legs over his shoulders. Daichi looped his arms over his legs and grabbed onto his thighs.
“Who’s going to be the judge?” Asahi asked.
Daichi looked around the pool. “Ennoshita!” he yelled out. “Can you judge our game of Chicken?”
Maybe saying that outloud was a bad idea. The entire team circled around them, hanging on the edge and started placing bets on who would win.
Suga placed his arms on Daichi’s head and leaned down. “If you drop me, I will kill you. We are not losing this.”
“Don’t worry about me, Suga! You make sure Noya has no chance to even get a swing on you.”
It was over surprisingly quickly. The second they locked hands and Ennoshita called out to start, Noya hit the water. The connection between Suga and Daichi was unstoppable. They didn't even need to talk to each other, unlike Noya and Asahi. Daichi lowered himself by widening his stance and bending his knees. A lot of people placed their bets on Noya and Asahi because of the height difference, but Daichi made a better center of gravity. Although Suga looks like a cinnamon roll, he attacked Noya out of the gate, immediately twisting and swinging him to the side, which led to their defeat.
Daichi kissed Suga’s thigh in congratulations and had so much fun that he decided to invite anyone else to take them on. They played almost everyone and won almost every battle, except for Noya and Tanaka, who had way more energy and fight in them. The last of the battles wrapped up their time in the pool. They all left and gathered in the bath to wash up.
As they got dried off, Daichi gave his whole ‘you better behave and be respectful, otherwise I will have your head’ speech before sending them off to, hopefully, calm down and get some sleep.
Daichi swiped the keycard and let Suga walk in first. He barely got his shirt on before Daichi pushed him onto the bed and crawled on top of him, peppering his face with kisses. “Who knew I had such an amazing Chicken player for a boyfriend!”
“Who knew I had such a power bottom for a boyfriend!”
“That’s it!”
Daichi stopped his trails of kisses and attacked Suga’s sides, tickling him senseless. He used one hand to hold his arms above his head and his legs locked his hips down. Suga was out-muscled by a long shot and had to beg to be given mercy. Daichi let go. Suga grabbed his face and pulled him down for a deep kiss. It wasn't long before he was licking into his boyfriend's mouth and nipping at his lips. Daichi groaned in response and lowered his full weight onto him. He wrapped strands of hair around his fingers and pulled at it, deepening the kiss as much as he could. After a few moments of intense, well needed kisses, Daichi pulled away to kiss Suga’s forehead and got off the bed.
Suga whined but followed him to their bags. “Whatcha doing?”
“I'm going to look at the bracket and scores from our competitors' previous games,” he responded, pulling out a notebook and pencil. “I don't want any games to go to a third set, but I think they might, seeing as we never played them before. We analyzed their play just fine on the bus, but it's nothing like actually playing them.” Suga grabbed some school work from his bag and followed Daichi back to the bed. Daichi sat up against the headboard; Suga laid sideways and rested his head on his leg. They both worked in domestic silence. It was calming for both of them. Daichi found peace in zoning into the volleyball mindset, and studying never failed to calm Suga. Daichi quietly combed his fingers through Suga’s silver locks, stopping every once and a while to write down some notes.
Their peace was interrupted by heavy footsteps sprinting down the hall. Daichi snapped up and immediately rushed outside, just in time to grab Hinata and Kageyama by their collars. “What are you two doing? What did I tell you?”
“He stole my pillow!” Kageyama argued.
“Yeah? Well you stole over half the blanket!”
“If you two don't shut up and go to bed, I will kick both your asses,” Daichi threatened and let them go.
Daichi returned to bed, urging Suga to go back to where he was to help calm him down, but that too was interrupted shortly after. This time, you could hear Tanaka yelling about something. Daichi rushed to their door and aggressively knocked on it. Kinoshita opened it without saying a word, just letting Daichi see Tanaka on the bed, jumping around like some ape and hyping himself up for tomorrow. As he was about to yell at him, he saw Tsuki and Yamaguchi sneak out of their room. He didn't know where they planned on going, but he collected them and made sure they stayed put.
Daichi felt like he was going to lose his mind trying to get them all to a state of peace. He should've known—no matter who he put them with, they were bound to cause trouble. It was just the nature of his team, and as much as he hates to admit it, he wouldn't have it any other way. He sighed and pulled all the boys in his room, and texted the ones that had yet to act up.
“Daichi?” Suga looked up from his notebook at his entire team. “What is this about?”
“I can't do it.”
“Do what?”
“I can't get them to calm down. They’re acting like they’re in the wild.”
Suga laughed and set his book down. “Okay everyone, sit down and relax. If you keep Daichi worrying like this, he’s going to be as bald as Tanaka!” Everyone laughed except Tanaka and Daichi. “I’m not bald!” Tanaka huffed and sat on the ground like everyone else. Everyone piled in front of the television when Suga turned it on. Daichi laughed when Suga searched ‘baby stimulation’ on YouTube and played some sensory video about vegetables. He laughed even more when he realized that the entire team had their eyes glued to the television, some even bouncing along with the food.
Daichi crawled back into bed and set his notebook aside. Suga also set his work aside and snuggled into Daichi’s side. They both watched as the team started to get more quiet and eyelids start to shut.
Daichi leaned down and pressed his lips into Suga’s temple and whispered, “How did we end up taking care of a team like this?”
Suga shook his head. “I have no clue.”
Daichi chuckled. “You’re going to be a great teacher, Kou. Every single kid is going to love you.”
“You think so?”
“I know so.” Daichi wrapped his arms around Suga and pressed feather-light kisses into his neck. “You were the best today. You made the perfect room assignments, even though you were just putting together who you thought would be the best couple…” Suga ‘tsked’ but let Daichi carry on. “I can already see you making life-long friendships when you make out seating charts. Not to mention you have the perfect compromising skills. You just make everyone so damn happy, especially me. And who would’ve thought that baby sensory videos would be the one thing to get everyone to get to sleep?”
Suga chuckled and blushed at his words. He wanted to hide his face in Daichi’s chest, but was pulled into a kiss. He moved his lips in sync with Daichi’s and sighed, sinking into his touch. Daichi pulled away and started to get out of bed. “We should get them back to their rooms.”
Suga sat up and pressed his chest against Daichi’s back. He littered kisses from his cheek, down his spine, and into his neck. “You did great today, Dai. Let’s get them to bed so that we can finally get some alone time.”

What annoys me in Haikyuu fanfiction written by cishet girls:
Yes, I really enjoy fanfics and a lot of cishet women write amazing things but I've been noticing something for a long time that really annoys me and that's how often fanfic writers completely change the "bottom" into degrading stereotypes. This is even more annoying when you keep in mind that:
-Hinata always fought to grow as a player and stand as an equal to Kageyama while never letting him treat him as worthless or inferior. So no, he's not going to let himself be overpowered or intimidated by Kageyama.
-Suga is a completely chaotic and outgoing type but also a very observant and emotionally mature guy who is always the first one to notice something about his teamates, not a blushing teen, thank you very much.
-Nishinoya is a ball of energy and an absolute fighter who's without a doubt one of the most determinated characted in the show and he was always the first to speak out to Asahi when it was needed.
-Yamaguchi's entire arc is about becoming more confident and letting go of his insecurities. Also let's not forget that he literally yelled at Tsukishima to get his shit together so no, he's not a shy boy who can be walked over by Tsukki.
-Oikawa is one of the most talented player of this show and a fucking tease who always opens his mouth and annoy the shit out of everyone. He is also a literal monster on the court who can crush your hopes and dreams with a single service.
-Kenma is a teenage boy with literal social anxiety who happens to be a brilliant strategist, sarcastic as fuck, brutally honest and even a little mean when he is confident enough. So reducing him to a UWU sOft SHy BaBy ~~ is probably the thing that angers me the most, especially when we have a lot of moments where it's explicitely shown that he has a very strong personality underneath his deep social anxiety. (Yes, I'm a sucker for Dom!Kenma or any fanfic that portrays him as a little sadistic fuck).
-Akaashi is also very sarcastic despite his pokerface and he's always the one who deals with Bokuto's mood swings so I can't help but roll my eyes when he's portrayed as completely submissive to Bokuto who often embodies the big strong alpha male stereotype (that doesn't fit him at all but that's another problem about Haikyuu "tops".)
Now, with all these characters who are strong and complex, all in their own way, WHY do so many fanfics protray them as shy UWU boys? Yes, they are mainly associated with bottoming but that doesn't mean they have to fit the stereotype of the inexperimented baby who blushes and stutters all the time! It's just degrading to represent queer relationships like that, where one is always feminised and the other changed to be a "big and strong and very dominant masculine top"
I love the fanfics where they bottom but aren't completely passive, where they have real or funny interactions with their partner, where they let their personnalities shine. I want more of these stories where they are described as real, relatable characters with more nuanced sexualities where bottoming isn't necessarily equal to submitting; and where submitting in bed doesn't imply being a defensless shy boy. Basically good written fics that portrays healthy and nuanced queer relationships.

Point Break
If someone had asked Daichi yesterday how he planned to spend his Monday lunch period, he probably would have answered "eating my lunch" or "thinking about volleyball" or "eating my lunch while thinking about volleyball." He would not have answered "sneaking into the staff room to hack into my physics teacher's email so I can delete the embarrassing video my best friend accidentally submitted in place of our projectile motion assignment"—and yet somehow, to his profound horror, here he is, slandering the father of modern physics to his teacher's face as he stalls desperately for time.

Haikyuu Fic Recs Masterlist
It's finally here, my contribution for the lovely people of haikyuu fandom after months of reading fanfiction everyday. This is a list of my absolutely favorite, 10/10 fanfics that made me leave keyboard smash comments. Most of these are G-T rated and all of them are SFW. I put a 💜 next to the ones with asexual rep just because I can. Also I will be uploading this list when I find new good fics (instead of making new posts everytime i'll just edit this post). Anyway, hope you'll like them as much as I do. Pairings sorted alphabetical.

Ice skating, one of the most popular dates around this time of year, and it seemed like he would be third wheeling it with some friends.
Daichi and Sugawara had invited him on their date after Kuroo complained about how he didn't have time to mingle and do fun things after work because he's usually oh so tired and no one interesting had come into his life recently.
He didn't complain often, but whenever he was calling with Daichi or Suga, he felt safe enough to do so. They'd understand, they always did.
So they invited him out on their date with the lame excuses of "maybe you'll meet someone" and "you're allowed to have fun!"
Kuroo was allowed to have fun, actually. That's something he often forgot now that he was working more often than not. His life turned serious way too quick.
Another thing Daichi and Sugawara seemed to understand all too well.
"Kuroo!" Suga yelled as he saw him, running up to him and enveloping him in a warm and crushing hug. "We missed you."
Kuroo gently put his hand on Suga's head, his silver hair poking out from underneath his beanie. "I missed you too."
Another pair of arms wrapped around him, Daichi hugging them both from behind. "It's been too long."
"Too long indeed." Kuroo smiled, a smile that quickly wavered. "Doesn't mean I don't feel guilty about interrupting your date."
"Don't!" Both Daichi and Sugawara exclaimed as they let go. A soft blush made its way onto Sugawara's face.
Kuroo blamed it on the cold.
"C'mon, before the ice melts." Daichi teased as they walked towards the ice skating rink.
As they approached, the atmosphere buzzed with the joyful sounds of laughter and the rhythmic scraping of blades against the ice.
Daichi, Sugawara, and Kuroo rented a trio of skates, each taking a moment to adjust them before gliding onto the glistening surface.
Almost immediately, Sugawara fell flat on his ass, getting a laugh out of both Daichi and Kuroo he had been aching to hear, or so his smile seemed to say.
But the occasional slip and slide only added to the amusement, especially when they tried to help the other up but they pulled them down.
The cold air bit at their cheeks, giving them all a red nose.
"Cute." Daichi remarked with a wink as Kuroo tried to rub his nose warm again.
"What?" Kuroo asked, trying to figure out if he misheard his friend.
"You heard me." Daichi smiled before skating away.
As they circled the rink, Daichi and Sugawara exchanged knowing glances, silently communicating their unspoken plan.
Sugawara skillfully maneuvered beside Kuroo, his gloved hand reaching out to entwine with Kuroo's.
Kuroo glanced at Sugawara, surprise and realization dawning in his eyes. He didn't pull away; instead, he tightened his grip on Sugawara's hand, squeezing it softly.
Yeah, okay, maybe he has had a crush on both Daichi and Suga for years. And yeah, okay, maybe he was jealous, but he made sure to never let it show.
Did they finally figure it out? They didn't seem to be mad, not in the slightest even.
Daichi, skating a step ahead, turned with a warm smile. "Kuroo, you're not interrupting anything. In fact, you're exactly where you're supposed to be."
Kuroo smiled at that, extending his hand towards Daichi, who grabbed it in a fluid motion as he started skating next to him.
They skated in silence for a while, just enjoying the company of each other.
After some time, they paused at the edge of the rink, breath visible in the crisp air.
Sugawara, breaking the silence, spoke with a gentle smile, "Kuroo, we've been thinking... how about making this a regular thing? You, us, dates, everything."
"We, well, we like you, romantically, both of us. And well, we have a feeling it's mutual. Is it mutual?" Daichi almost rambled. Kuroo couldn't help but wonder if he always got this nervous when asking questions like this.
"It is." Kuroo silently confessed, turning around to look at all the other people skating around. "Has been for years."
Sugawara and Daichi exchanged glances, a mixture of relief and excitement evident in their eyes. The cold air seemed to freeze time for a moment as they absorbed Kuroo's confession.
"Well then," Sugawara said with a mischievous glint, "how about we continue this date somewhere warmer? Maybe with hot chocolate and a bit more privacy."
Kuroo smirked, feeling a newfound lightness in his chest. "I'd like that very much."

Haikyuu Fic Recommendations!!
I personally really enjoy when people make these lists, so I thought I’d make one of my own! This is by NO means a complete list, but just a highlight of some favorites in no particular order with brief summaries! Rated G, 19.2k, canon compliant, high school into post-time skip (this is canon idc)

Summary: Sometimes you have to make choices you don’t like, or will regret into countless sleepless nights, and sometimes you’re just following orders. But if the other option is certain death for your entire species, you will make those decisions. That’s what it means to be a pilot. …Or so Daichi and Sugawara keep telling themselves as they activate the two least compatible recruits for the much-needed third Jaeger assist. The kaiju are learning, evolving, and coming in faster than anyone is comfortable with, and the only option left is to evolve with them. Who knows? Maybe the rookies will be the ones to turn the tide of the war.

All of them still work, but you have to open them in a browser and remove the " https://href.li/ " that's automatically added to the link to open it. Last I checked, it seems to be working now.*

Just a Haikyu weight gain story
Daichi was mesmerized. Even though, since they went to College now, Suga still went to the gym regularly, he had gained a little weight. It was barely noticeable for now, his clothes hid it. Daichi didn't know that Suga quitted his gym membership two months ago.
Still Daichi managed to notice. "Babe, did you gain weight lately?" At first Suga denied it. But Daichi said he didn't mind. He didn't even minded if Suga kept gaining weight. It was not like Suga was trying to gain weight, he just stopped preventing it.
Since quitting his gym membership two months ago Suga gained four pounds. He couldn't explain where the weight came from... (Probably from the constant snacking while Studying)
Daichi grinned. "Let me do the cooking from now on!", Daichi insisted. Suga could imagine where this was going, but he let him do it anyway. He loved his boyfriend's cooking skills.
Naturally Suga started eating quite a lot. With more or less Daichi's help he stuffed himself nearly every night. What was once 5 pounds gained gradually turned into 10... Then 20. Daichi, even tho he too ate the rich food he prepared, burned the extra calories during training.
Today Daichi exceeded all expectations. He cooked a gigantic meal for Suga, just to see how much Suga was able to eat now.
When Suga came home he was greeted with the smell of food. "Daichi.... I can't eat anymore. My mom made me eat two plates of lasagna..."
Daichi's grin only widened. "Perfect. Let's see how much more you can handle"
"I gained 30 pounds already... I even had to buy new clothes... I mean look at me. Even the shirt I'm wearing now is getting small... Not to mention my jeans"
But Suga couldn't resist. So he let Daichi load up a plate and started eating. Daichi sat beside him, gently rubbing his boyfriend's stomach. "You have a good appetite. I love seeing you stuff yourself", Daichi praised. Suga loaded up his plate a second time. Half way through he had to unbutton his shirt and unzip his pant. Then he loaded his plate a third time. He struggled, but managed to eat all of it.
"You did so well for me", Daichi praised and rubbed his boyfriend's now quite tight belly.

also me: *publishes another daisuga fanfiction in which Daichi suffers under the unbearable weight of his own goddamn personality and Suga is metaphorically pedestalled to represent his desire to find something safe and normal he can protect*

The scratching of lead against rough paper filled Daichi’s ears, waking him up. The noise persisted, filling the room of sleeping boys. He used his knuckle to get the sleep out of the corner of his eyes. As his sight cleared up, he turned his head to see a glowing sheet next to him.
Who the hell is up this late on their phone?
He lifted his head and looked to his left, seeing a small section of gray hair peeking out of the blanket. He sighed and closed his eyes, turning onto his belly and draping his arm across Suga’s shoulders, giving it a light squeeze. “Why aren’t you sleeping?” he whispered.
“I couldn’t fall asleep,” Suga answered earnestly, laying his cheek on the other’s hand that was on his shoulder. “I realized I never taught the first years my hand signals, so I’m making them all reference sheets.” He turned to press a kiss into his palm. “You gotta play tomorrow, go back to bed. I just have to make one more.”
Tired and still fuzzy, Daichi replied, “You gotta play tomorrow too. You need to be sharp for the practice—” Coming to his senses, he shut his mouth. He listened. The pencil stopped scribbling, Suga’s breath faint as if he was holding it. I did not just say that after what happened today. Damn it, I wasn’t fully awake yet.
The room succumbed to silence before Suga spoke. “I’ll have enough sleep to warm everyone up.”
Daichi tightened his fingers around his shoulder, crossing the bed and pulling himself to his boyfriend’s side. He knocked the pencil out of his grip and replaced it with his hand, holding it as tight as he could. “Koushi, that's not what I meant. You know that isn't what I meant.” Please don’t let it get to you. Please don’t let it keep you up longer.
Suga lifted his head, turning his face away. “It doesn't matter if you meant or not as long as it’s the truth.”
“Stop that.” Stop thinking that you won’t play anymore. Stop thinking that I’m going to let you get pushed aside and seen as some player who only tends to the starters.
“Not saying the truth is what got us here in the first place.”
“Koushi, I mean it. Stop saying stuff like that!” Daichi urged, propping his body up on the elbow that wasn't around Suga. “You’ll play,” his voice soft. “I promise you that you will.”
“Yeah, once Kageyama gets hurt.” Daichi knew that tone. The tone where Suga was trying his best not to say what he actually felt because he feared that his emotions would hurt others.
Having had enough, Daichi slipped his arm under Suga’s waist. He used his legs to roll them over, him back on his back and Suga laying on top of him. Suga huffed at how ridiculously strong he was.
Daichi kept one arm at his waist, making sure he wouldn't slip away. The other was wrapped in his freshly washed hair, pushing it back, fingers scraping against his scalp in a calming manner. He let Suga relax while he non-rhythmically pressed kisses to his forehead whenever it felt right.
Suga eventually loosened up, his body sinking down as he calmed. One hand ran along Daichi’s neck and collarbone, the other gripping his shirt on his chest. Defeated, he said, “I don't know how I feel about only being able to play if it means Kageyama gets hurt. I don't want my moment to come from someone else’s failure.”
“Whoever said that?” Daichi asked.
Suga lifted his head, looking him in the eyes. “Isn't that what being a backup is all about? Playing when the starter can't play any longer?”
Daichi shook his head and pressed their foreheads together. “I don’t know who put that idea in your head, but you need to stop listening to them. I think you know by now that you and Kageyama have different playing styles. It’s foolish to think that his playing style is going to work all the time. He doesn't have the trust that you have with the team. He’s still figuring out where our hitters like the ball set, you know it by heart. He’s still tapping into their mindset, you’re reading their thoughts. You have a connection with this team that I don’t even have. I think that’s worth more than any technical skills out there. Who cares if he knows how to pinpoint a set? He’s set for me before, and it’s always with the intention to win and only that. But when you set, I can feel how much thought you put into it, I can feel that you sent it with love, and that’s what makes the point.” He quieted and rubbed their noses together; Suga didn't reply. Daichi noticed the tight grip that Suga had on him where his neck met his shoulder and how his shirt was balled into his fist. A wet spot formed right where Suga rested his head. Daichi stopped threading his hand through his hair to hook a finger under the setter’s chin and lift it. “You’re crying,” he observed.
Suga bit his lip and shook his head. “I’m not crying.”
“I can literally see and feel that you’re crying,” Daichi chuckled, amused at how defiant his boyfriend could be. “It’s okay, Koushi. I’m just confused.”
Suga shoved his shoulder back. “You idiot! How am I not supposed to cry when you talk like that?”
“Oh, Kou.” Daichi laced their hands together, holding a kiss to his temple. “Now you know how I felt earlier when you were talking to Ukai. Why are you crying?”
“Is this how you felt last year?” Suga blurted out before he could stop himself.
“Hm? Whatcha mean by that?”
Already dug his hole too deep to get out, Suga explained, “Well…when Ennoshita and Tanaka joined the team. They’re wing spikers just like you. Didn’t you fear that they would take your spot?”
After a moment of thought, Daichi answered. “I don't think I was ever scared of it, but I sure was motivated.”
Suga chuckled as he sniffled. “We did spend a lot of time in your backyard.”
Daichi smiled as he wiped a tear off from under Suga’s eye, leaving his hand caressing his soft cheek. “I learned a lot from them. We all have different styles, and every day I spent watching and playing with them, I gained new knowledge, sometimes even a new skill. Sometimes it was as simple as the lead up to my jump, or changing the angle of my foot when I landed. We’re just a team, you know?”
Suga nodded, snuggling under his chin. “I don’t want you to think that winning means everything to me. I know I said I want to win as much as possible—and that’s still true—but it’s not really about that. The more time we have together as a team, the more I can bond with them. Volleyball is only fun to me when I have connections with everyone, that’s why I’m crying. I fear that I’m going to lose every connection and not be able to make new ones if I’m not on the court. I can’t love the game if I don’t feel connected.”
“Is that why you’re making reference sheets for the first years?”
Suga nodded. “If—” Daichi bit his ear. “Hey!” he whispered, rubbing it.
“If you can use violence then so can I!” he protested in a whisper. “Stop it with the ‘if’. It’s when. I think you forget that Ukai was a setter, too. He knows exactly how you feel. He has more experience than us, and I think he’s doing a lot of brainstorming right now of how he's going to take advantage of the bond you have with the second and third years. Just you wait—you’re our secret weapon now. We’re going to be a few points behind, and whatever Kageyama has going on won't be working because he doesn't have the trust with the team like you do. Ukai is going to swap you in and the other team is going to be like ‘oh he’s just the second setter, nothing bad is going to happen, we can relax’ and then they’re going to witness the most well woven team with the most passionate setter that they have ever had the misfortune of playing against, and we are going to destroy them before they can even register what happened. And then—”
“Daichi, Daichi!” Suga interrupted, patting his shoulder. “I get it, I get it. When I play, the other team is going to be left stranded on the court as we walk off in victory and still be trying to figure out when Karasuno got a setter like me.”
Daichi was all smiles, filled with way too much excitement for this time of night. He moved quickly to capture Suga’s lips in a kiss. A kiss that was messy and filled with more happiness than either of them could contain. “There’s my perfect setter. How many sheets do you have left to fill out?”
“I have to finish the last panel on the one I’m working on and then I have to do one more full one. Ten minutes top.” He rolled off of Daichi and back over to his sheets, picking up the pencil that was pushed a little ways out and got back to work.
Daichi smiled as he watched Suga’s tongue slip out in focus as he drew as fast as he could. He lifted Suga’s free elbow and burrowed underneath it. He grabbed the blanket that fell down Suga’s back and placed it over himself before using his arms as pillows and closing his eyes.
“Going back to bed finally?” Suga whispered.
Daichi nodded, already drifting away. “Get me back over to my own bed when you’re finished up.”
“You don’t want to explain to the team that we’re madly in love in the morning when they wake up to you surprisingly being the little spoon?” he teased.
Daichi playfully shoved him. “It was one sleepover! I just wanted to know what it was like!”
“Funny how you left out the part when you asked for it again a week later. And a week after that, and a week after that one, and a week—”
“It’s nice, okay?” Daichi hid his red face in Suga’s pillow and covered his cheeks and ears with his arms. “Let me sleep.”
“Okay, okay, Little Spoon,” Suga laughed. He stretched his fingers under Daichi’s chin to lift his head and firmly take his bottom lip between his. He pulled back, running a hand through chopped hair before grabbing a new sheet of paper. “Goodnight, Dai.”

Just Pretend (a kagehina fanfic)
Just a little snippit of something I wrote a while ago and posted on AO3. If you wanna, you can read it here. (I also knew next to nothing about the ending so... OC's galore and OOC characters! That's my style. Lmao)
"Hey, Kageyama! What's up?" Hinata answered cheerfully. Kageyama could hear that stupid smile of his through the phone.
"Can I ask you a favour?" Kageyama cautiously asked. A pause on the other end of the phone made his heart pound in his chest. Kageyama wasn't sure why he was so nervous, but he was. And this was his last resort. He nervously waited for the reply that seemed to take forever to come.
"Sure!" Hinata finally said after a moment. Kageyama let out a breath and tried to figure out how to word his question but eventually gave up and just decided to go for it.
"Will you go on a date with me? Not like a real date or anything but like, my teammates invited me to this group date thing and I tried looking for a date but I cant fine someone and it's tomorrow and for some reason I thought it'd be a good idea to ask you. I understand-"
"Kageyama-"
"-if you say no. It's a stupid request anyway. Actually, you're probably going to say no anyway, so please just forget I ask-"
"Kageyama." Hinata tried again, his voice stern. It rattled Kageyama. This time, Kageyama paused and waited. "Don't just assume things for me. If you need a date that badly, I'd be happy to go." Hinata heard Kageyama sigh in what he assumed was relief. Or maybe Kageyama was just catching his breath. Hinata couldn't really be sure, but Kageyama definitely sounded calmer.
"Thanks, Hinata. I owe you one." Hinata couldn't help but giggle.
"Okay, what's the dress code and where and when do you want me to meet you?"
They sorted out the details and chatted a bit longer. Hinata had told Kageyama all about the team he was now playing with.
"You should see this one guy. He plays number 17 on our team. He's a wing spiker like me, but he's an actual giant! Last time we measured, he was one hundred and ninety eight centimetres!" Kageyama listened as Hinata rambled on about his teammates and his fans. He told Kageyama how, when he was in Europe for a vacation, he was recognised by a university student.
"So how have things been? I haven't really talked to you in over a year, Kageyama. You really gotta keep up with us more." Hinata asked as he finished rambling. Kageyama heard a voice in the background. "Oh, by the way, Suga and Daichi say hello."
Kageyama couldn't help but grin at their names. He remembered their days together fondly. Sugawara and Daichi followed them all through their high school career. They were always up in the stands, cheering Kageyama and Hinata on, along with the others, of course. Kageyama owed so much to Sugawara and Daichi as they reshaped him into a team player. They taught him how to fight alongside his teammates instead of with them. After middle school, Kageyama had an intense fear of teamwork. He would've rather done everything himself than rely on others. But Sugawara and Daichi really taught him the value of trusting in your teammates to have your back.
"Tell them I said hello back. I haven't seen them in a long time." Kageyama said sadly as he heard Hinata tell them what he had said. "But yeah. Um, I've been good. A lot of training. I've been running a lot in the mornings before practice. And when we practice, I usually work on my receives and spikes. They say that I should hone my setting skills more than anything but I'd like to be better at things that dont come as naturally - though we also got a lot of practice of that in high school." Kageyama chuckled at the memories of Coach Ukai making them do flying laps. And the training camps with tokyo powerhouse schools were no better.
"That's great, Kageyama! I just usually wait for practice to do my running. My coach, Hiragi Tamojikato, is very strict on everything we do. From our diets to how we train. He watches us and gives us meal guides and everything! It's a pain, but I'm glad for it."
Kageyama loved hearing about Hinata's life as a professional volleyball player. They had a match-up once before after they were recruited to their now-teams. But Kageyama liked to keep up with his best friend. Though, as Hinata had previously stated, Kageyama failed to do that in the past year as he had been super busy with travelling and training and playing matches. But he kept up with Hinata through articles and interviews from Hinata's current team.
"Ya know, maybe we could get the old team back together some time. Asahi works in Sendai. And Yamaguchi and Tsuki are together in Hiroshima - though I'm not sure what they're doing there." Hinata giggled. One thing Kageyama noticed through his conversation with Hinata was that the orange haired boy wasn't using that stupid grammar he used to. The words of 'fwah!' and 'bwam!'. He kinda missed it but knew that as they grew older, Hinata probably grew out of his adolescent speech. Well, Kageyama figured it was that, or he just didn't want to embarrass himself in front of professional players.
"Kageyama? Are you listening?" Hinata questioned from the other end of the phone. Kageyama hummed. "I said that I have to go now but I'll meet you at your apartment around four thirty okay?" Kageyama hummed again and smiled, saying his goodbye to his best friend and hanging up the phone. Kageyama laid back on his bed, the plush mattress combined with the soft duvet allowed his body to sink into it. Kageyama stared up at the ceiling, grinning to himself as he thought of what the next day would bring, completely in the moment and forgetting that Hinata was only coming over to be his pretend date.

Hi! I really love both traveling thieves and Sky blue but I’m also a big Haikyuu fan! You’ve written a lot for that fandom, do you mind sharing your favorites you’ve written for Haikyuu?
Hello hello!
YES I AM A HUGE HAIKYUU FAN
my PFP here is actually Atsumu in his outfit from a fic I’ve been working on, on and off, called ‘Parallel Thrones’ which I really need to get back to after I somewhat escape the Hermit/Traffic/Empires brainrot 😭 One of my friends drew it for me and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE it! 💖
As for favorites…I love the Nekoma boys, and my favorite ships are probably LevYaku and KurooTsukki, and I also love the tooth-rotting DaiSuga fluff, but I’ve written a ton and I’ve gotten a bunch of ships in there! So honestly there’s probably a bit of something for everyone in my Haikyuu tag, I really have done a ton for it…oh and YamaKen! A rare pair, yes, but I think they’re super cute! ☺️
