The interesting thing about spyxfamily is that there is clearly a lot going on underneath the surface but none of the main characters are able to figure it out. Yor just doesn't actually care to, like she has no motivation to figure anything out. Loid, for a spy who deals in information, has completely failed to actually get close enough to any important information. And Anya is a child who doesn't have enough critical thinking to question stuff that doesn't obviously connect to her own plan of keeping her family together.

We have so many mysteries, like who are the Authen's, what the fuck is happening with the Desmond family dynamics, who gave Anya and Bond their powers, how long can the Forgers continue to hide their true selves from each other, will Yuri be able to piece together Loid's identity, are Loid and Yor ever going to admit they love each other?

As a great detective once said "it's like a donut, a donut with a hole"

You fools. You feeble, small minded, plebeians. Loid would NEVER tell Anya not to date Damien bc he downs his Respect Women Juice by the gallon and wants her to be able to have the freedom to make the choices about her own love life. Tbh I don’t think he’d even give Damien a shovel talk either. BUT.

Consider: Loid, worried that, because of his high status, there’s a chance somebody might try and kill Damien. He can’t have that, that would make Anya sad. So what’s his solution, you ask? Simple. He begins slowly feeding Damien more and more poison every time he sees him in order to build up his immunity. Obviously, Damien does not know about this. This results in situations where an oblivious Damien drinks an entire cup of poison and, to the horror of his would-be assassin, is just chillin afterward.

Does she… hate her children? Despise having to be involved in any way - does the action of simply discussing Damian piss this woman off?

Because if so, then god damn I love it, because we get to see the truly perfect antithesis to Loid and Yor.

The Forgers aren’t perfect, but the way they involve themselves in Anya’s life is beautiful. It’s warm and loving while teaching her to make and respect boundaries (that’s difficult for a telepath lmao), but their walls almost always come crashing down the second they find themselves alone in each other’s company. Loid may be strict and Yor may be a little too enthusiastic, but every action they take for Anya is for her sake, and every mistake they make is an experience they immediately learn from to better raise Anya.

The Desmonds aren’t physically abusive, nor do they scream nor degrade their kids. Both Desmond scions are clearly well-off, having wealth and service in spades. Everything they could ever want, at the snap of their fingers. Except their parent’s love and attention. Donovan sees his sons as tools to further his name and goals, while Melinda (and this is just conjecture) shows shades of a woman who never wanted children and is searching for ways to live and enjoy her life free of their burden.

(Little tangent, but people, women especially, shouldn’t be saddled with kids if they do not wish to. Their body, their choice, and no one should ever say otherwise. That being said, when the child is born, the parent has a lifelong responsibility to that child, and regret is no longer an option. I see so many parents who practically begged to have kids, but ended up resenting them, and in turn their kids grow and feel the same way to them. You can never let your children feel like they are a mistake. Never.)

To Donovan, his children are materials that can be shaped into weapons for his political gain and clout. To Melinda, (again, just a hunch), they are nuisances she can’t be bothered to deal with.

But Loid and Yor, who don’t share a single drop of blood with Anya? Who created and joined their family for self-protection? They can’t stop themselves - they shower Anya with love. They can’t spoil her with gifts like Becky and Damien get, but they never starve Anya of what matters most: their love, their time, and their energy. Anya is an esper - if she grew up with people like Desmonds, she’d know immediately she was unloved. Hell, she has! Returned to foster homes again and again. So it is beautiful that a girl who can read her parent’s anxieties and fears has never once heard them think she was a mistake (well other than that first episode with Loid lol). They have had every opportunity to grow resentful of Anya, but they never have. They think the world of her. Mr. “It’s for the mission” Twilight bends over backwards on a whim for his daughter. Yor “I won’t let my daughter die in school” Forger would commit war crimes if she even thought her precious child got a boo boo.

The Desmonds, at best, see their children as investments and at worst mistakes. But no matter what Anya does, good or bad, it doesn’t ever change their perspective of her.

She isn’t just a cover child to them. She’s their daughter, and they’d shake heaven and earth for her when the Desmonds can’t even be bothered to attend their son’s orientation day.

Not going to lie, I was not expecting Anya to tell Damien she can read minds this chapter!

He didn't believe her, but still! If she's serious about wanting him to know, she could still do things to try and prove it to him in the future. I've been thinking that Endo may have something big planned for chapter 100, and it's possible this exchange is setting that up somehow.

I'm also forced to wonder how closely Loid was really monitoring this exchange

He's shown with his eyes closed, at least for the moment, and his back turned to them, but if he opened his eyes, it's possible he could be monitoring them in the reflection on the drinks to see how this dance goes. As a spy, he has motive to watch them to judge how plan b is progressing. As a father, not that he'd admit it to himself, he has motive to watch them because it's his little girl dancing with someone other than himself for the first(?) time. Then again, he could be taking a breather after all the stress of watching and helping with the contest.

If Loid did catch Anya's confession, I'm forced to wonder if he'll dismiss it as one of her childish lies, or if he'll think "that would explain a lot" and actually consider that she might be telling the truth.

So I feel like we’re ignoring something in chapter 95 bc the kids look so cute and the Damianya shippers are being fed. Henderson says that the classes are going to be reassigned by academic performance, so it stands to reason that Anya would be separated from almost certainly Damian but also likely Becky, Emile, and Ewen in everything except her classical language class.

It also raises Emile and Ewen being separated from Damian and I don’t know if any of them know how to act without each other. So I’m really scared what the next chapters hold for them. But it would be very very interesting if Damian got jealous of her other classmates, since it seems pretty likely that Anya will be alone with Becky and Arnold Crowley in her language class…
