Damie/Bly Fandom Friend in Need - Please Share

Our dear friend Nikki aka @alomini and her family and friends need our help. She has been in the ICU for the past two weeks fighting off a life-threatening infection. While her condition is improving, she will likely need rehabilitation before being able to return to work.

For day 3 prompt of Damietober: Apocalypse

Synopsis: Four months after the world as we know it has come to an end, Jamie decides to embark on an adventure in search of other people who might still be alive. While on the road, she spots a state border sign with writing on it and quickly discovers she is not the only person left. As Jamie follows this person around the country, she gets to know who she is through letters and tapes left behind at different locations. While growing closer to finding the author of the letters and tapes, she finds herself falling head over heels for someone she’s never even met.

The vines and branches made it easy to climb up the front wall, to stand on its remains. White flowers bloomed on the branches around them.

There was an enormous clocktower in the near distance, a corner of it crumbled beyond repair, the rest of it with vines like fingers wrapped round, gripping tight to tear it down. Similar wreckage was everywhere—razed buildings, empty streets, a downed bridge dipping into a river that lay just beyond, brilliant and blue like the sky above.

It’d been a great city once, wherever they were, and now the hungry earth was swallowing it whole.

“Do you think it’s just us?” Dani asked. “Alone here?”

“Could be.”

“I want to see it all. Everything.”

Jamie looked at her. “Do you want company?”

She felt Dani’s smile all the way in the tips of her ears as they made their way into the sunlight.

Somewhere, miles beneath their feet, the beasts of yesterday cowered. Doomed to stay tethered and terrified.

Before them, the brilliant world was beckoning.

It’s hardest to get out of bed in the autumn.

Logic might suggest that winter would be more of a trial, given the frigid temperatures outside and warmth of a night’s worth of body heat and thick comforters. But Jamie is out of bed like a shot in the winter months, flinging back the covers to all but sprint to a warm shower. There’s something invigorating and slightly motivating about a dark, cold winter’s day.

But in September and October, when the weather is sometimes still warm; when there’s still sun streaming through the windows; and when Dani’s hair is splayed out enough to catch it in the mornings—

Jamie has to almost physically throw herself out of bed on those days.

Days like today, if she’s being honest, and she always tries to be.

If this doesn’t encapsulate “fuzzy” I dunno what does…

So here’s a new smile analysis: Damietomer Edition!

First, can’t talk about it without highlighting how Jamie has her eyes closed for a whole second after Dani pulls back from the kiss.

And then, her eyes immediately sweep Dani’s face intently, for another whole second, waiting for the illusion to fully shatter.

For a more in-depth of analysis of Jamie’s characterization and arc, I made a video essay a while back. But, essentially, Jamie is so disoriented because she was so ready for this decision — to take a chance and let herself be vulnerable — to blow-up in her face… because when has that not been her experience? Even with Dani?

However unintentionally, Dani has already let her down, and it’s because Dani doesn’t give up on them that Jamie makes a move at all, which is to lay all her cards on the table — and give Dani the opportunity to reasses.

Even though Jamie is clear about what she wants. Even though she lets herself be guided into the kiss and kisses Dani back. It doesn’t sink in because, in the back of her mind, she already “knows” Dani’s answer.

When Dani she pulls back, Jamie is “looking” to be proven right. She smiles… because she isn’t.

Bonus:

Couldn’t not add this nose nuzzle because it’s just so… SOFT.

But the way it’s also instinctive, despite Dani surely never doing it with Eddie; the way she already understands how affection-starved Jamie is — it’s just so beautiful and so Dani to spontaneously decide that kissing alone isn’t enough to convey how much Jamie means to her.
