Angel (the series) came so, so, so goddamn close to giving me the greatest supernatural buddy cop story of my life that I’ve always wanted and I think about it far too often for a show that I got very little out of.

ANYWAY hahaha..... some garbage under the cut.

“Angel.”

He could have kept walking, and should have, yet the sound of her voice snagged his feet and he hesitated at the way she made his name sound like an accusation over a greeting.

“Kate.” he returned the formality, standing in place with his back to her. 

“This a new look? It doesn’t suit you.” 

He guessed her dry remark referred to the hoodie he was hiding within. It was the best shot he had at being covert. The temporary curse had struck him with a dizzying wave, yet he’d caught the symptoms as they formed and was able to escape the bar before anyone saw his true face. The nausea had left his usual sharp awareness impaired. He was still surprised he hadn't noticed her. After the incident with The Shroud, he never had trouble knowing when Kate was nearby. 

Angel ran his tongue across his teeth, a futile hope lingered in his mind that they’d feel dull and flat to the touch. No such luck.  

"Kate, this a bad time.” 

He made an attempt to sound firm, maybe even a little intimidating. He flinched slightly at the sound of her footsteps clacking on the damp worn stone paving of the alley. 

“It’s always a bad time with you.” 

It was Kate’s turn to freeze as Angel turned to face her. Of the limited and scattered times she’d bore witness to this other side of him, something went horribly wrong. Sensing her discomfort he retreated from her slightly, flicking his gaze away from her and back again before repeating.

“Now’s a particularly bad time.”

It all seemed so straightforward in the moment, but treacherous currents below the surface threaten to pull Osgood under as she grapples with the rapidly* evolving situation between her and Kate.

Possibly the shortest chapter in the history of Cosmosgate? This chapter wasn't strictly planned, but I realised we needed some Osgood point of view before proceeding to the next step in the story (which will once again be in Kate's POV).

*I just noticed I wrote "the rapidly evolving situation between her and Kate" unironically in the chapter summary and I am wracked with uncontrollable laughter. 'Rapidly evolving' is admittedly not a qualifier anyone would choose to apply to this story's treatment of the Osgate relationship, or so I have been told by reliable sources.

I can feel the urge to write fading. Not sure if it’s the new medicine I’m on or if I’m just…not in the zone? There’s a small chance I’m burnt out from going so hard on the LOST fanfic that now my brain needs a break from writing, but I really hope that’s not it because I got stuff I wanna finish. I got stuff I wanna write. I got stories to tell, fictional and autobiographical.

Maybe if I work on a cosplay tomorrow, it’ll help reset the brain. Or maybe not, and I just have to push past this lack of motivation with pure determination.
