Just read the latest chapter of @floriianthefool ‘s fic, so of course I had to make art for it!
This is a spruced up version of a sketch I did copying Dan Mora’s gorgeous Bruce design, I changed him to a merman and painted it in like an hour so it’s pretty messy. Anyways, this is how I imagine Bruce looks when he’s at the edge of the pool, checking on Reader and glaring at everyone else lol. He’s so pretty <3 (also Dan Mora supremacy). I love sad wet (mer)men.

I was thinking "Man, I bet a lot of Locked Tomb fans would go nuts for Die," and then I realized I knew a bunch of comics I think fellow Muir fans would like. So here, have some of my personal faves.
Tumblr media
Bitch Planet, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Valentine De Landro
This one will probably never be completed, but the two existing volumes are absurdly good. It's about an off-world penal colony for non-compliant women. Brutal, angry, pulpy--and full of love and admiration for women who rebel.
Tumblr media
Die, Kieron Gillen, Stephanie Hans
Goth as hell, lovely, and extremely gender. All about the power of story, but story here is not inspirational. It is eldritch: amoral, all-powerful, and hungry.
Tumblr media
Love and Rockets, Jaime Hernandez, Gilbert Hernandez, Mario Hernandez
I'm particularly thinking of the Jaime stuff here--queer punks on bizarre adventures, loving and surviving in a shit-ass world.
Tumblr media
Monstress, Marjorie Liu, Sana Takeda
A terrifying and powerful lesbian on a quest for revenge has an elder god come out of her arm stump occasionally to kill people. Also, there is a cat who is a nekomancer. (Get it?)
Tumblr media
Once and Future, Kieron Gillen, Dan Mora, Tamra Bonvillain
There's a lot going on here thematically, but whatever. Just take a look at Bridgette, 80-something monster hunter with just the worst attitude you've ever heard of. See that old woman? You will absolutely want to fuck that old woman.
Tumblr media
Pretty Deadly, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Emma Rios
Ungh. The art. The deathiness. The art. Imagine if the Locked Tomb took its aesthetic cues from westerns, swap out necromancers for reapers, and you're pretty much there. Just a gorgeous series.
Tumblr media
The Sandman, Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, Mike Dringenberg
You have heard of Sandman. It is as good as you have heard. Shares with TLT an unflinching--but warm--look into the darkness.
Tumblr media
Tigress Queen, Allison Shaw
Buff warrior queen must enter the opulent city of the enemy empire to seek peace. Palace intrigue, diplomatic tensions, occasional fights. Everyone is very sexy.
Obligatory mention for the five of you who never put on gray bodypaint: Homestuck is interesting, but I do not recommend it because I do not think the comic itself is very good. Homestuck is a several-thousand page joke at the expense of the reader. It did not deserve the passionate, creative fandom it attracted.
It gets mentioned a lot as a TLT influence because Muir co-wrote a beloved fic (Promstuck), but she herself has said it's not any bigger an influence than a million other things she's read or played. There are some interesting overlaps, but many of those are because she's influenced by the same material Hussie is (notably parser games and jrpgs).
If you really want to read Homestuck, I recommend listening to Homestuck Made This World as you go.

31 DOD: Day 12 - Nightwing comic artist:
pick one... ahahahaha...
It honestly depends on what I'm in the mood for, and I have different favorites for different things. By default, the answer is probably George Perez.
Tumblr media
But... then there's the... I don't even know what to call it, but the way Travis Moore draws faces and expressions and... oh man, yeah.
Tumblr media
Phil Jimenez has drawn some panels and sketches I've adored (and not just for Dick) and you don't know how upset I was that I couldn't get a spot on his commission list at FanExpo Dallas last year.
Tumblr media
And some more Moore and Jimenez 😁
Tumblr media
And then there are the other more recent artists who draw a gorgeous Dick. Bruno Redondo, Dan Mora, Jamal Campbell, Javier Fernandez, Marcus To, Marcio Takara, Jorge Jiménez...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Greg Land drew a very handsome Nightwing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jock draws such amazing poses that capture the character and the movement and... yeahhh. I think I've seen this one somewhere, before
Tumblr media
If you know me at all, you know my undying hatred and loathing for ASBAR... but the art... I can't say I don't like how Jim Lee draws Dick's hair. Especially in Hush,
Tumblr media
I won't lie, I appreciate the way Mikel Janín drew Dick when he was teaching gymnastics during the Grayson run. But what I really loved was Grayson 5, especially since it's a Robin Dies at Dawn reference
Tumblr media
And I love most of the artists who followed Scott McDaniel on the 1996 Nightwing run and just that era in general (okay, one of these is from Outsiders and one from New Titans) (Ric Leonardi, WIll Conrad, Patch Zircher, and Tom Grummett)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Can't forget Nicola Scott
Tumblr media
or Chris Samnee
Tumblr media
and I absolutely adore how Joelle Jones draws him
Tumblr media
Come to think of it, I love pretty much anyone I've gotten a commission from, even if they don't do what's traditionally considered the best loved art of him. (I've gotten commissions/convention sketches of Dick from George Perez, Steve Erwin, Todd Nauck, Ken Rocafort, Andrew Robinson, Joe Eisma, Scott Hanna, Brent Peeples, Rags Morales, and Yanick Paquette)
We've been ridiculously blessed with some great Dickpics :)

hey I want to get more into batman esp dick grayson storyline idk where to start do you know a good place to start in terms of the comics ? also loveee your art !!!!
hello! i mostly read comics to look at art and most of them are batman centric, but here’s some of my favs!
wayne family adventures is always a very good starter comic, it’s short and quick and cute! you get to meet all the batkids real fast
future state dark detective, which is a short story about bruce having absolutely nothing left to his name and still fighting it out! the art is gorgeous and it’s a fun short story (4 issues)
batman detective comics.. the storyline done by dan mora! i just love his art, im probably paying more attention to it then the plot but i remember liking the plot
there’s also this one story in detective comics 1027 where all the kids coincidentally find the same dead body and they solve the case together i loved that one
hehe as u can i see i love comics where bruce is just kind of walking around trying to solve a case… i haven’t really found any batkids or dick grayson comics that i enjoyed enough to keep reading, but i hope you find something you like!

31 Days Of Dick Grayson
🦋☀️🦋
30. What if you had the chance to build the next creative team for a Nightwing run, who would be a part of it?
Tumblr Creative Team
Tumblr media
Nightwing #87
If I’m going to be in charge of the new DC creative team, if decided to go a different route and pick Tumblr creatives to build up a great team, to be honest there are so many better artists and authors than DC has in their arsenal, I’d love to see these fans take the reigns and make real positive changes to the Nightwing series.
I feel like the people I’ve picked are amazing artists, and fans who see Nightwing’s character in a similar way and would also be better at including his history. Here’s the team!
Penciller: @vanillabean-97 and @finalgirljasontodd
Vanilla for great pencil design of Dick Grayson and finalgirl for details
Inker: @stained-glass-sketchbook
I know I have designers, but I still love their outfit designs too and their tactical Nightwing suit is GORGEOUS.
Colorist: @ultimatedirk and @duckytree
Cover artist 1: @crow-sizna
I think it goes without saying, crow could put Bruno Redondo and Dan Mora out of their jobs
Variant cover artist 1: @lomakes
One of the original designers to make Dick Grayson the way I see him today, probably who Travis Moore bases their Dick Grayson in, especially love their appreciation for Dick Grayson’s best outfits
Variant cover artist 2: @sentine1ist
They have one of the most unique styles, the color and design all come together amazingly
Character design: @allineedisonedream
One of the people who just understands Dick Grayson is the Barbie of the DC universe, I love every design they come up with
Outfit designer: @mabychan
Author 1: @misstergrayson
Yeah me I mean cmon 😂
Author 2: @danny-chase
Author 3: @hood-ex
Editor: @northoftheroad
Flash Crossover Writer: @givemewallywestorgivemedeath
PHENOMENAL flash fan, I think they should be in charge of the series when Jeremy is done, I honestly love reading their blog to catch up on everything flash
Flash assistant writer 1: @flashdoesahundredyarddash
Flash assistant Writer 2: @jhonnyhotbody
Look I know at this point I’m building a whole flash team too but it’s these tumblrs fault for being so good, and I’ve decided they’re gonna have a lot of crossovers that’s why the team is big
Flash editor: @pulsar-1919
Flash artist: @lightmare000
Flash assistant artist 1: @vvunderkind
Flash assistant artist 2: @artiificiial
I won’t even hide the flash favoritism at this point
Flash design: @absolutelynotsanebaby
Don’t @ me for cheating making choices is hard when there’s so many good ones😭
Titans Crossover Writer: @disco-troy
This blog along with lomakes, Danny, and starfire truther are go to titans blogs
Titans artist: @starfiretruther and @fatimajpeg
I really wanted star as a writer too but I can’t live without their art😭
Tim Drake Crossover Writer: @junkoandthediamonds
Absolute Tim Drake dictionary
Tim Drake artist: @clambuoyance
Great designs and great Tim
Booster and Beetle Crossover Writer: @melonnabar and @boosterblue
I know it’s two but it’s two characters and they’re both too good
Booster and Beetle artist: @frightshack
Batfam Crossover Writer: @arabian-batboy
Honestly, if I want a Batfam crossover I want the person who understands Damian the best, I love this blog
Batfam Artist: @ninalinovna
Outfit designer: @ghostpainters
Honestly could plan out all the landscapes too, they have such great attention to background detail and style
Their gradient coloring style is beautiful
There were so many more tumblrs I wish I could have included, but the team can only be so big!😭 please check out these tumblrs and give them a follow, they are my blorbo tumblrs 🥹🌸 also I haven’t fully explored every art blog here except for lomakes so don’t blame me if you find weird stuff🤷‍♀️.
Also, there were two tumblrs I REALLY wanted to include, but I can’t find them! One is the tumblr that did a painting of Wally West from Earth 18, but tumblr won’t let me search the numbers 18. Second is another amazing artist who draws Dick Grayson with purple hair at the end. If any of you know these tumblrs please let me know!
And a special thank you to @31dod for creating this really wonderful and creative challenge, it seriously made my month and gave me a lot of opportunities to express all of the things I like about Dick Grayson, I’ve had creative block for a bit but this really fixed it. I also appreciate all of their patience for how late so many of my posts have been, (including this one). The month is over but I hope you guys enjoyed my 31 days!

DC Artists Tournament - Round 8
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fan submitted propaganda below:
Dan Mora:
I'm picky about comic art, but Mora never lets me down. His grasp of human anatomy is second to none, and yet his true emphasis is on character interaction and expressions. He takes every opportunity to SHOW you what the characters are thinking and feeling.
Made Bruce Wayne a dilf
Batman/Superman: World's Finest & Shazam (2023). Mora draws superhero ass superheroes in a way that really meshes with Waid's commitment to writing superhero ass superheroes. Their powers combine to evoke a nostalgia for a superhero heyday that didn't exist.
George Pérez:
THE Diana artist, amazing ability to draw curly hair
J.H. Williams III:
He is iconic. The best. The way that he takes full advantage of the medium of comics in his art is wonderful. The layouts are gorgeous. Go read Batwoman and see how he uses the art to advance the storytelling in new and cool ways.
Because what would Batwoman have been without his layouts? So striking, so unique

Indie Comic Reading Roundup
I've gotten through just about all the trades I checked out at this point (ignoring all the dark knight metal stuff), so here's my thoughts:
Once and Future vol. 1 by Kieron Gillen, art by Dan Mora, colors by Tamara Bonvillain (collected Issues #1-6)
I am not super into arthuriana but I think it's fun to dip my toe into every once in a while. The basic plot here involved the mythic cycle being re-enacted in the modern day, which I am always a sucker for so I thought it was quite fun. The pacing felt a little rough at first--moving very quickly when I would've appreciated a little more time spent to stop and get explanations--but I really felt like it got into the swing of things for the last 2 issues which really took advantage of everything that had been building.
Art was good (though since I've gotten used to seeing Mora draw superheroes, it did take a moment for my brain to switch gears here). The grandmother is very fun. I probably check out more of this series.
The Invisible Kingdom vol.1 by G. Willow Wilson, art by Christian Ward (collected issues #1-5)
This one didn't click for me. With one of the two basic ideas being 'space monastery', I wanted to like it, but I felt like the execution didn't quite do it for me. I think I would've like more time to sit and build out the world more; there were several aspects that I would've liked to see expanded on. There were aspects of the plot that didn't really work for me and I found myself wanting more clarity on what sort of timeline these events were happening on.
Ward's art was also very hit or miss for me: it really thrived when depicting space. It had gorgeous colors and dynamism then. Other times, it felt rough and kind of unfinished in a way that didn't work for me. I don't think I'll be reading this one further.
Dark Spaces: Wildfire by Scott Snyder, art by Hayden Sherman, colors by Ronda Pattison
I really loved this one. This collected a stand-alone 5 issue story that was very well executed. It tells the story of a squad of women convict firefighters in California who embark on a heist which (in true heist form) proceeds to go wrong. It was well plotted--all the characters felt distinct, though with only 5 issues and 5 women on our squad, it felt like we only really got to know a couple really well.
The art was gorgeous. Pattison's colors especially were a pleasure to look at. I definitely recommend checking this one out.
Y: The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan, art by Pia Geurra, and colors by Pamela Rambo (collected issues #1-10)
This one's a bit of a stretch for the indie comics category since, upon checking, it's Vertigo. Not sure where that falls as a DC imprint. Regardless, it gets included on here as it doesn't take place in any larger universe and I might as well.
Brian Vaughan can tell a good story. This is no exception. I sat down on the floor and read all 10 issues in this in one fell swoop. So yeah, gripping story, very engaging. All the characters and world-building feels very thought out. The main road trip plot going on so far gives a very good excuse to see the different ways the world has been effected/people have responded to plague which wipes all men(except for our titular last one) that is the inciting incident.
I like the art style and flatter colors that this has. I definitely want to read more. Apparently I can access this on dcui which I didn't realize previously. We shall see in which format I end up reading this.

Due to #100 coming out, I decided it’s Round 2 on remembering THE GOOD STUFF. And here we start in on Dan Mora’s gorgeous art and Jason being an actual teenager, with actual teenage habits (who looks so adorable, omg).
Tumblr media
No, I’m not too keen on Matt’s post-Moon PTSD manifesting in putting the clues together, but coming to the wrong conclusion. However, I thank Dan Mora every day for giving us Kimberly with this hairstyle. She looks both older and younger at the same time and I want fifty more images of her just like this.
Tumblr media
The one time Goldar and the others will ever hear Rita’s version of, “Mama loves you.” Scream with me now~
Tumblr media
Okay, this is a tragic moment, a newly unlocked addition to Slayer Kim’s tragic backstory, but this layout always knocks me the fuck out. A very Ridley Scott version of Hell, Drakkon likes, it’s true; but I am rather adoring this standing over the enemy camp, saying the kind of goodbye that Bulk and Kim don’t want to admit is a goodbye. I love this fucking duo AND trope.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyone else//enjoy this scene//tremendously//more than you should have//CLAP YOUR HANDS!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m sorry, but if this doesn’t make your insides soft and squishy and also make you want to kill things, you are missing out. And are possibly a robot. (I wanna squeeze Kim’s little face in the above image, aaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!)
Tumblr media
Not on the same page, and not actually on the same panel, but both are screaming: Five Seconds Before Disaster. Tell me that isn’t great here--or that it isn’t the cutest damn thing what they were doing beforehand.

who's your favorite artist to draw supergirl? :)
oooo my favorite supergirl artist largely depends on the era!
for pre crisis id say win mortimer. he was the artist for her in the superman family series and i think he drew her in a way that was so elegant and mature.
Tumblr media
post crisis is definitely jamal igle. he was the one artist who could draw her costume in a way that didn’t make me hate it. his kara was such a breath of fresh air amidst her constant oversexualization in the early/mid 2000s. and i think his art just manages to capture how powerful and sweet and vulnerable she is.
Tumblr media
for new 52 ill go with emanuela lupacchino for similar reasons as jamal igle. she was one of the artists who could draw karas new 52 costume in a way that made me not hate it, and her art is just very gorgeous in general. she was the artist for the crucible arc in karas solo which is one of my favorites.
Tumblr media
now for rebirth, maybe its just because i have world’s finest (2022) fresh on my mind, but i really love how dan mora draws kara. his kara is so powerful and has such an attitude about her, and he’s also drawing her in one of my favorite costumes.
Tumblr media
thank you for the ask <3

Read MMPR/TMNT II #1!  Quick thoughts below (I’ll be doing recaps for this series, but I like putting down my thoughts like this, especially since it’s a little inappropriate to do recaps IMMEDIATELY after the books come out)
pros:
- DAN MORA ART DAN MORA ART DAN MORA ART my GOD is this book gorgeous.  Also he put my trio together in the big group shot so that’s immediately a win
Tumblr media
- Turtle and Ranger civilian interactions are still fun.  I hope we can get more low-key moments between everyone as the book goes on - Billy/Donnie and Jason/Leo got the main moments so hopefully everyone gets a chance to shine
- You can tell Ryan had a lot of fun integrating more TMNT elements than he did the first series and I like it!!  Since last series leaned more into the ranger side of the crossover I’m totally cool with going more into the TMNT side this time.  I hope they’ll get more than just cameos or namedrops.  Mondo Gecko should have been Ranger X
- speaking of which Ranger X has a cool design but honestly I’m way more hyped for the Mutant Rangers..............
cons:
- It’s very easy to compare the two opening issues of each series because the main plots are.....basically the same, barring how now it’s a friend of the Turtles that’s mysteriously joined the bad guys rather than a friend of the Rangers.  And honestly I think MMPR/TMNT I did its set-up a lot better with a lot more intrigue, with way better build-up to Tommy’s “betrayal” and letting us know it’s not a spell, furthering the mystery of his motives.  This thing with Casey kind of.  immediately comes off as a spell or Kraang possession, which I could be wrong about but.........with that opening scene of Casey and Karai, I feel like I’m not
- I know I said the Turtle/Ranger interactions are fun but the Jason/Leo scene rubbed me the wrong way a bit.  I think there’s a point to be had that Ryan tries...a bit too hard to make the Rangers too alike with their designated Turtle friends (see: writing Zack like comic relief to pair him up with Mikey) and the Jason/Leo scene kind of emphasizes that
Tumblr media
- ignoring the fact that....Tommy never acted like this in the comics??  except like....his opening arc??  ZACK questioned Jason’s leadership more in the comics, at least at first - it feels too much like Ryan’s ignoring how a lot of the Turtles’ dynamics with each other hinges on them being brothers and having that typical sibling rivalry compared to how the Rangers are, for lack of a better term, just friends.  I feel like it would be almost more interesting to discuss the differences in each teams’ dynamics rather than forcing them to be too similar
- also this panel in particular.  especially annoying in the wake of the Omega bullshit.  I get it’s supposed to just be Jason being able to vent his frustrations to another leader but after years of him getting mad when people don’t agree with his actions i don’t exactly feel sympathy lol

BATMAN • SUPERMAN: WORLD'S FINEST- THE DEVIL NEZHA - Written by Mark Waid, Illustrated by Dan Mora
Holy writer's block, Batman, I needed this wholesomeness!
For some context, I love the domestic side of superhero stories. I love watching Clark Kent make waffles for Lois Lane as much as I love watching Superman beat up Zod. Most comics I read that involve the Caped Crusader and the Dark Knight focus on the latter. If I look, I'll usually find comics like Kingdom Come or New Frontier. Let me be clear, my favorite comic is New Frontier. There is nothing wrong with liking either of those or anything like it. But rarely do I find a story that makes these larger-than-life heroes look and feel so human, and rarely do i get to see Robin drinking coffee with Superman. The interactions are charming, Batman and Superman have amazing chemistry, and their story is very engaging. The story doesn't trade focus on interpersonal relationships for the suspense and action crucial to superhero stories. It only adds more weight and consequence.
When we know what these characters care about, we have a better connection to that character and what they will feel if they lose that important thing. Batman, Superman, and Robin are familiar characters with familiar relationships, yet this comic gives us dialog and backstory that establish the father-son relationship of Batman and Robin and their friendships with Superman. It makes the fights with ancient villains and end-of-the-world threats feel more involved and intense. When these heroes are threatened or hurt, I'm desperately turning the page, hoping they'll make it.
The illustrations compliment this personal story-telling. My associate's degree in Batmanology doesn't give me the vocabulary to describe this well, but I'll do my best. Many comics with fantastic art have superheroes depicted in a way that you would expect. Once again, I refer to Kingdom Come. The art is gorgeous but not distinct (in my eyes, at least). Dan Mora's depictions of our well-known heroes are unique and feel personal, and that adds to the focus of the comic. There is no irony or unnecessary darkness in this comic's story, and the bright and dynamic character designs and backgrounds really add to the earnest tone.
TRIGGER WARNINGS (with potential spoilers) -
1) Comic Chicanery - An expected amount of violence and antics for a superhero comic. Nothing gratuitous or gross, just some reasonably intense action scenes.
2) Demons/Hell - Both are explored lightly and represented loosely, but they are still present.

I’m looking at the Tim Drake: Robin covers after rereading World’s Finest and I noticed Tim and Dick as Robin look very similar to me. Not the outfits but the hair, face shape and build. Dan Mora’s art is gorgeous and it could just be not comparing them 1:1 but it just seemed surprising to me.

Something I really like about Once and Future is how it conveys the differences between the mundane and the otherworldly.
Tumblr media
[ID: two panels from Once and Future of Mary standing beside a window in a pub, light streaming through the windows behind her. In the first panel, the light is golden, the windows are blue, and the pub is colored in shades of brown. In the second panel, the windows and lights have turned a bright green, as multicolored specks of light float through the air, and the walls of the pub behind her fade from blue to purple. “I’ve hidden the manuscript, but… is this the plan?” She says. End ID.]
Dan Mora’s art is gorgeous as always, but Tamra Bonvillain’s colors really steal the show here, especially in the second volume.
