bestie!! can you do some headcanons about minor red queen characters such as sonya, elane, heron, etc?
OOOH, YEAH!!
I'll try not to strech too far with these and I may or may not include Ptolemus because we see so much of him in the books, but he's not a pov character, so yeah.
.
.
Right off the bat, Rohr was a Queenstrial contestant that everyone questioned behind closed doors mainly because of her age.
Sonya met Evangeline through a meeting with Houses Samos and Iral. The girls barely got along, but could at least put up with each other enough to respect their statuses.
Olliver has won against Maven sparingly and lost to Cal more times than he cares to count. He does not take it personally.
Quick homophobia warning here, many members of House Iral were confused and didn't understand Robert's being a consort to the King, though they were sure to keep it all to themselves because he did give their house a good deal of power, being so close to the King.
Samson and Cal get into fights that end in draws. Where Cal fights using strategy, Samson uses mental brutality to either break his opponents or get them to injure themselves to the point he wins.
Ara Iral was quite close with Sonya and gave her some comfort after the Queenstrial.
Lucas was someone MANY of the Samos House members looked down on, but Evangeline and Ptolemus did silently grieve for him.
After the events of the series, Wren has helped Ptolemus and Evangeline through unlearning everything that was taught to them. Needless to say, it was WAY easier said than done.
Bree and Tramy do occasionally have nightmares about the Front, but it's something they've come to talk about with Cal as he's had those experiences.
Cal was the best man in Julian's wedding.
Gisa occasionally gets a phantom ache in her hand because of how long it had been broken.
The electrons, after the war, keep in touch and are close with one another.
Heron was admittedly nervous to have been chosen as Cal's bride because he would have probably won any and all duels in training. Still hurt when Evangeline was chosen, though.
Elane and Evangeline did get married, and Sonya attended.
Davidson did not have long to adjust to being a leader, but he did very well, if he does say so himself, thank you very much.
That's all I've really got, thanks for the ask!!!

Dumb Money    [trailer]
David vs. Goliath tale about everyday people who flipped the script on Wall Street and got rich by turning GameStop (the video game store) into the world's hottest company.
Bankrupting hedge funds is a laudable goal. But I feel sorry for the ordinary people like the nurse who lost a lot of money. And if someone didn't buy really early and is still holding, he's lost money.
You can temporarily win battles. But you can't beat the system by just being stubborn. And as can be seen, the establishment can afford the more expensive lawyers.
As for the movie itself, it's an entertaining watch. But I wonder if people who aren't familiar with the story were able to follow along.

Dumb Money (dir. Craig Gillespie) x TIFF 2023.
It's a fun and inspirational working-class dramatization (imagine a more straigtforward The Big Short) of the 2021 GameStop meme stock short squeeze saga based on the book The Antisocial Network by author Ben Mezrich with a superb cast. Paul Dano stars as Keith "Roaring Kitty" Gill, a financial analyst and retail investor turned stock market YouTuber, who turns the table on big hedge funds betting against the electronics retailer. It's a stylish recreation of the real-life David vs. Goliath battle that cost rich investors billions of dollars in capital.
Premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival as part of the Platform program.

How CBS uses same actors in different roles-
-Dane Daniels is a financial general manager that is suspected for the kidnapping of one of his workers wife, and appears in the episode Dead Air (4x21) on CSI : Miami.
-Josh Bedford is the rector of Rockland University, near to Granview. He appears in some episodes of S5 on Ghost Whisperer. He works for the Shadows, evil non human dark forms, to save his mother; then the Shadows kill him, because he isn’t able to recover The Book of Changes.
-Father Davison is a priest, friend of David Rossi, who appears in the episode Demonology (4x17) on Criminal Minds.
-Avery Tindsdale is a wealty father of a kidnapped woman, with a not so clear past, who appears in the episode Father of the Bride (20x11) on CSI : Crime Scene Investigation.
So, poor Bruce Davidson, his characters are almost always (except when he played the priest) contaminated by dark shades.

Dumb Money
Director: Craig Gillespie
Starring: Paul Dano, Pete Davidson, Vincent D'Onofrio, America Ferrera, Nick Offerman, Anthony Ramos, Sebastian Stan, Shailene Woodley, and Seth Rogen (+ bonus Dane DeHaan with a rattail)
Release Date: September 29, 2023
My Rating: 5/10
My Review (NO SPOILERS):
I mean...it got the job done? The preview led me to believe this would be a funnier and more dramatic movie than it actually was. Felt like it just did the minimum...everything the movie would *almost* get there, and I'd think they're going to break the barrier and go a bit deeper, it would cut away. Still, it told a story about the STOCK MARKET (ew) in a way that wasn't boring. It was no Wolf of Wall Street, but it kept my interest so I'll give it that.
It explained the whole Game Stop situation in a way that mostly made sense to someone who knows very little about the stock market and the situation going on. It explained why it was bad for the rich guys and good for the rich guys. I didn't leave the movie completely understanding the stock market, or even the Game Stop incident entirely, but I could at least explain to someone else in very basic terms what it was about. I think.
It was a fun enough movie. I don't know if I'd recommend that you go out and see it in theaters or even rent it, but it'd be an interesting enough movie to watch if it's ever streaming for free somewhere.

Dumb Money (2023) Review
Tumblr media
Does anyone else think that Seth Rogen looks like a cuddlier version of David Boreanaz? Angel's stoner brother? No? Anyone? Alright then, just me as always.
Plot: Everyday people flip the script on Wall Street and get rich by turning GameStop into one of the world's hottest companies. In the middle of everything is Keith Gill, a regular guy who starts it all by sinking his life savings into the stock. When his social media posts start blowing up, so does his life and the lives of everyone following him. As a stock tip becomes a movement, everyone gets wealthy -- until the billionaires fight back and both sides find their worlds turned upside down.
Looking back at the COVID pandemic, now it seems so strange that that time even happened. A time of dread and uncertainty, now almost feels like a 2-year blip, where things were off but then all of a sudden we have returned to normal. Doesn't seem real. Think of Thanos snapping his fingers and dusting half the world's population away for 5 years and then they all come back and it's back to regular hijinks. Regardless, the pandemic lockdowns were crappy, but one of the few glimmers of hope and goodness came from that whole GameStop stock event when a bunch of Redditors and online geeks managed to take down multiple Wall Street hedge funds that were originally gaining money from other's people's losses. Reading about it on the news was absolutely mad, and naturally, now we have a movie about it.
If you're looking for a factual detailed behind-the-scenes depiction of what occurred, and also if you're seeking out a lesson in finance, Dumb Money isn't that type of movie. I'm sure there is a Netflix documentary out there that delves deeper into the ins and outs of it all, as for this movie, this is very much a classic David vs. Goliath tale of regular people sticking it to the man. The combination of winning personalities and a mind-blowing reality makes for a very entertaining film, if not profound, yet this is a prime example of a crowd-pleaser. And to be fair, with all the politicians, tech firms, and media that get sucked into the events of the movie, it does seem like director Craig Gillespie has taken some creative liberties in inflating the revolutionary aspect of what was ultimately achieved, as even though the situation that transpired is undoubtedly absurd and the type of I-cannot-believe-this-really-happened situation, I feel the movie made it a bigger deal than it actually was. The over-dramatization is self-aware in this movie though, as the hedge-fund billionaires here are presented as very cartoon-villain-esque, with Pete Davidson's character even observing in-movie how the rich Wall Street joes seeming to have come straight out of a Disney animation.
It boasts a solid cast too, with Paul Dano showcasing yet again that he doesn't always need to play creepy dudes, and that in fact, he can be very likable and heartwarming. Though for those who have seen Okja that should not come as a surprise. Shailene Woodley as his wife shares good chemistry and the two performers commit to the meaning behind the meme-ry. Seth Rogen, Vincent D'Onofrio, Sebastian Stan, and Nick Offerman are fittingly slimy and evil as the Wall Street chaps, with America Ferrera and Anthony Ramos as some of the regular folk who managed to cash in on the action round out the cast well. Dane DeHaan pops in too as a company sales rep and is entertainingly unrecognizable. That being said, with this huge cast of characters there is, perhaps, a little too much bouncing around between stories, and not all the plot threads land powerfully. Pete Davidson as Gill’s layabout brother doesn’t add much, and America Ferrera as the nurse, as sweet as she is, doesn't really get much to do besides look at her phone all the time. Then again, who didn't spend hours upon hours staring at their phone during lockdown, am I riiiiiight??....
Gillespie’s directorial style is funky and fun, and he tailors his film to the subject matter. Again, it's nowhere as deep or clever as, say, The Big Short, however, it's an entertaining and empowering movie that showcases what can happen when people actually come together to show it to the man. Though could have done less with that brass language in the soundtrack. Nearly every scene was accompanied by some rap about f**ks and ducks. And yeah, I get it, Dano's character likes cats in this, but saying the word pussy seventy-five times isn't high-brow humour. Nonetheless, Dumb Money is an easy watch. Definitely the best choice between it and The Expendables. No shade. Now - let's go buy some stocks!!
Overall score: 6/10

CAIN - 8. Mr. Lisslow
Tumblr media
As Cassandra walks cautiously behind the tall stranger, she can't help but feel uneasy being around him. Although he helped her get out of that scuffle in the Iceberg Lounge, something doesn't seem right about a random man helping out a young lady he barely knows. On top of that, he isn't just some regular man. Cassandra could tell by how he handled some of those guards at the lounge that this guy has had some legitimate training. Could he be some kind of cop or federal agent? Or maybe even another masked vigilante? Gotham seems to have a lot of those these days.
The stranger glances back at Cassandra to witness her cold stare beaming at him. He then looks forward and continues down the street.
Stranger: We aren't too much further from my place. You can hang out there for a while.
Cassandra continues to stare at the stranger and makes no response at all. The stranger then looks back at her again this time to actually engage in actual conversation.
Stranger: So do you choose not to speak or are you physically unable to?
Cassandra just shakes her head and continues you glare at him.
Dane: Hmmm interesting. By the way, my name is Dane. Dane Lisslow.
Cassandra has no idea who that is, but at least she has a name now. Dane Lisslow. Now all she needs to know is who trained him and why is he helping her.
Dane: I work for the special crimes unit for Gotham. I heard about the situation at Black Mask's place, so when I saw you in the Iceberg Lounge, I assumed you were the mystery girl. You fit the description perfectly. Plus no normal girl would have broken that man's hand the way you did.
Although Dane just admitted to who he is, Cassandra is still not fully convinced of his intentions. Someone from the special crimes unit usually doesn't have that kind of combat prowess.
Dane: So you like the Bat, huh? I saw your little shirt underneath with his symbol.
Cassandra then lightens her mood a bit with the mere mention of The Batman. Not many people know that she idolizes him. Before she had gotten to Gotham she would always hear stories and see the news about The Batman and all he does. He's well trained just like her, but uses his skills to help people and not hurt them like she was taught to do. Something Casandra secretly admires and would love to see in action.
Dane: Yea the guy is good. Really good.
Cassandra looks down at the ground as she tries to contain her slight grin.
Dane: But he could be doing better if you asked me.
Cassandra's grin went away instantly as she went back to glaring at Dane. She didn't quite understand what he meant by that.
Dane: I mean if he really wanted to make Gotham better and take crime off the street, he should kill some of these lunatics. Instead, he puts them in jail or insane asylums just for them to be released again or even escape.
They both approach a garage-like building just at the corner of the street where Dane resides.
Dane: If I were the Bat, I would have ended these lunatics years ago.
Cassandra is kind of surprised to hear that coming from him. It just makes her even more suspicious of who he is. Dane then pulls out a set of keys which he uses to unlock the door of the complex. The both of them enter the complex which is small and only consists of a tiny desk with an open laptop sitting on it, a small tan couch, an old Harley Davidson motorcycle by the garage door, and a bunch of plaques and military awards. In the back of the complex was a plain black door likely leading to another room in the small space.
Dane: I know it's not much, but it's a spot you can crash until we figure something out.
Cassandra looks at Dane with a blank look on her face as if she has no idea what he's referring to. She then looks over at the military plaques and walks up to them. She can't read them of course, but she can tell they are important to who this Dane guy is.
Dane: I was a marine before joining the crimes unit. A damn good one too.
Cassandra not at all interested in what Dane has to say then looks over at the black door. She walks up to it and tries the doorknob to reveal that it is locked from the inside.
Dane: That's just my closet. Nothing interesting in there but old gear.
Cassandra's suspicion grows more. Why lock up old military gear? Cassandra is eager to know what is behind that door, but that might have to wait till later. She then walks over to the tan couch, sits down, and glances up at Dane.
Dane: Just sit tight. I'm going to go make a phone call real quick to my captain. Then we can figure out where to go from here. Be right back.
Dane then exits the complex to go out front. After watching him leave out the door, Cassandra then looks back at the black door. This is her only chance to see what's really behind there and maybe find out more about who Dane Lisslow is. She gets up from the couch and approaches the door looking over her shoulder to ensure Dane doesn't walk in on her. She looks into the keyhole to see if she could peek inside the room through the slit but to no avail. She then reaches into her back pocket and pulls out a small kunai knife and attempts to break the lock with it. Cassandra struggles to get the door open, but she is persistent in seeing what's inside. She continues to giggle the knife into the door, but it doesn't seem to be making any progress at all.
After several minutes of trying to break down this door, Cassandra hears Dane approach the front door to enter back into the complex. Cassandra tries to get her knife out of the door, but it's wedged in there tight. She Slightly panics and tries to pull on the knife harder to get it out. The front door then opens and Dane enters.
Dane: Alright here s what we are going to do...
Dane fully enters the complex and looks over at the couch to see Cassandra sitting there as if she had never moved. He then glances over at the door which remains closed and seems untouched.
Dane: We are going to go meet up with my squad and then go from there. Sound good?
Cassandra nods then stands up from the couch to walk towards the door. She glances back at the door for a quick second then proceeds to exit the complex. She is overly curious about what it is he is hiding in there and almost doesn't want to leave just yet.
Dane: Wait. I have to grab something right quick.
Dane then pulls a set of keys out of his pocket then approaches the black door. Cassandra doubles back into the complex with her face lighting up as he puts the key into the doorknob. As Dane twists the key, you hear a series of electronic switches and locks activate from behind the door. Cassandra realizes that she wouldn't have been able to get past all of those locks regardless. As Dane opens the door, Cassandra immediately walks up closer to peek at what's inside.
Dane: Eager, huh? I told you it's nothing but old gear of mine.
Dane was right. It was just a closet with tactical gear hanging and an old duffle bag. He then leans over to the duffle back and pulls out a holstered 9-millimeter pistol from it.
Dane: This is what I need.
Dane then wraps the holster holding the handgun around his waist.
Dane: Alright now we can head out.
Cassandra (slightly disappointed) starts to make her way to the exit of the complex, but right before she turns fully around she notices something peeking out of the duffel bag in the closet. Laying in the bag with half of it still covered up appears to be an orange mask with a slit for the eye but no opening for the mouth. She can't tell what's on the other half of the mask, but even so, Cassandra has never seen that mask before. Dane then closes the closet door and all of the mechanical locks automatically set themselves. Growing even more curious by the second, Cassandra isn't fully sure that Mr. Lisslow is who he says he is.
Tumblr media
Dane then grabs Cassandra by her shoulder on their way out of his complex.
Dane: Come on. We can't keep my people waiting much longer.
Cassandra looks at his hand on her shoulder then looks up at Dane with a grimacing look then shrugs his hand off her shoulder. She doesn't like when people touch her. Dane then gives her a slight scowl and walks ahead of her.
Dane: Just follow me, kid.
As Dane starts to walk down the street, Cassandra paces very slowly behind him still not sure if he can be trusted. She learns a little about him, but at the same time grows even more suspicious of him. It's as if she's back a square one on who really is Dane Lisslow.
