Something I do really enjoy about Our Flag Means Death is that the central romance actually...makes sense? So many rom-coms fall into the tropes and plot beats without considering what makes them work. The leads fall in love because that's what leads do in romantic comedies, not because of anything intrinsic to their characterizations, external or internal, or the chemistry of the performers.
Tumblr media
With Our Flag Means Death, you can see the progression of the love story. You see who Stede is at the start, his emotional and psychological makeup and how he's already beginning to change by the time Ed shows up on his ship. That character arc is already begun before they become friends. Then we get the bits and pieces of Ed's background and relationship to his own legend, and the desires he has that exist independent of Stede but that Stede's presence helps him to express. We see them playing together and laughing and having fun, and the relief in both of them to have someone who truly gets them. And we see that friendship morphing into romantic love, and how that love is complicated because of who they both are and the worlds in which they live.
When they get to the first beach kiss, it's a payoff of everything that has developed over the previous episodes. It makes sense of all the moments and scenes, and not just the big ones - the times that Ed puts his arm around Stede's shoulders or pats his back, the conversation about marmalade, how Ed takes his tea, the conversation about spoons and passive-aggression.
Tumblr media
I love that the divide between them is never about them personally overcoming class or race prejudices—though those things are not insignificant to the story or the characters. Where those things come into play, it's the big villains grabbing them and trying to pull them apart because "he's from my world, not yours." And that outer conflict fuels their inner ones, and also gives them both something to push back against that is not each other.
The whole relationship works because the relationship arc is intertwined with their individual character arcs. Stede has to deal with his guilt and sense of inadequacy. Ed has to face his self-hatred. They both have to break away from the people and systems that are trapping them. They have to change in order to love each other better. And how they change makes sense to who they are, together and apart. None of it is forced.
It's just a really good show.

I Am All In Rewatch - Jess & Rory - Episode 2x13 (Part 2)
Well, it's just it's just such a stark contrast between how relaxed Jess is and how cool and confident he is opposed to Dean. And it's just kind of hard. I mean, it's not hard to imagine why you know, in that they gave us. What I love about this episode is they gave us that entire process from Rory transitioning from from Dean to Milo, and it was gradual. It happened in one episode. Actually didn't ...it happened over a bunch of episodes, but it really happened here, and it took a fight between mom and daughter for a whole week they weren't talking to each other. Dean came to you, what what you guys are talking about? What my situation? What I mean, there's nothing creepier than that for for a young girl to hear. I mean, that's like the death of that relationship is the fact that he went to her mommy... Yeah, it's uh. I mean I don't know if he might be the best character in that show in terms of how well they set him up. I mean they are setting him up for a career. I mean he's getting a career out of this because he's the guy that comes in and just blows the lid off the place in a couple of scenes here and there by being a super cool guy. I mean talk about just wow, what a great what a great role. -Scott

I headcanon that the reason why Miles' "that man" instances get worse in the second game is because he's spent more time apart from Phoenix, like, working in a case with him specifically, since he also seems to not realize when he's near anyway
This also leads me to think that during all the time he spent overseas he was also like that, and, like, even more, explaining what he was talking about with Gumshoe at the end of the third case in jfa
Also, i like to think that when it got too unbearable, Gumshoe will convince him to call Phoenix for help in a case during the 7 years of hobo

Such a true words. People are so crazy that Buck kissed a boy who is not Eddie
Literally! Is his own personal growth useless if it's not tied to Eddie?
Don't get me wrong. I love Eddie with my whole entire heart (and I'm still pissed about the basketball scene but that's another matter). The point of Buck's bisexuality is not just about buddie.
It's about Buck finally loving himself. All of himself. This is the man who's been passively suicidal since day one, and self destructive, and tying all his worth to the job or what he can do for other people.
Now we get to see him love himself and be himself. And I don't really care who that happens with.
Buddie is a slow burn. People have no patience. They want buddie NOW. And I get it, I want buddie just as much as anybody, but I want even more for the individual characters to grow and heal and be happy in their own skin.
And anyway, logically speaking, it wouldn't have made sense for it to be Eddie. He's in a relationship already (hopefully not for much longer, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯), and he and Buck weren't speaking at the end of the episode anyway. And Eddie still has to have his own awakening/ realization.
Tommy is a good option for Buck. Someone who knows him, and isn't asking for anything from him. Tommy is his chance to test the waters with someone he trusts.
The ship is not dead in the water. This isn't even a drastic detour. This is just the next step towards getting us there.

I have only seen their C/B supports and honestly I love them a lot. Alfred really out here just committing acts of treacherous friendliness with other royals from other kingdoms. It's wonderful to see.

Feel like we’re too focused on our favourite ships and/ or the characters we have a crush on to realize that xo kitty isn’t just about love and what ship’s endgame, it’s about kitty learning about her background and discovering herself.
Kitty herself is trying to be her own individual and have her own journey/ adventure (she’s says so herself).
I think that’s why people think Kitty being bi is “random” (it really isn’t but if you wanna be dense that’s your issue). Too focused on who Kitty ends up with and not who she ends up as.
I also think this effects how people look at kitty as “just some white girl koreaboo looking for cute boys in Korea” and think she’s annoying cuz she’s not your perfect self insert (she’s a teenage girl she isn’t supposed to be).

hey! i'm not dead!! :D
So, here’s the thing. Leo never really realized how many things were casually phrased as orders until he got cursed. Turns out, it’s a lot more than he originally thought.

Me playing Tears of the Kingdom: As much as I miss the champions, it makes sense they're not mentioned much. It's been a hundred years since they died. Even if they survived the Calamity, most of them would probably be dead at this point. The only exception being Mipha, who would have been the only one that would still be alive if she survived the calamity due to her age. The reason they're still remembered so much in Breath of the Wild is because the Divine Beasts, one of the last remaining connections to them, are still active and looming in Hyrule. Impa also said that their spirits feel uneasy knowing their task of defeating the Calamity wasn't done. They were at peace when the Calamity was defeated and passed on. They're not brought up from that point on because them and their era are over and can be laid to rest.
Also me playing Tears of the Kingdom: - holding back tears - Damn I miss the champions
#LIKE YEAH. I GET IT FROM A THEMATIC POINT. BUT FROM A 'SIR THOSE ARE MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS' POINT. I AM ACHING#I love the sages in TotK! Don't get me wrong!#I mean look at my icon tee hee#But I've grown so attached to the champions their absence feels so off. I'm fifty-fifty on it#I wanna be clear: Big agree with people who say the Sheikah Shrines and tech being suddenly gone feels off#It's unexplained and feels far too significant to easily write off#I feel similar about the champions and how little they're mentioned in game#I don't think Zelda even has a single line of dialogue that mentions them.#She and Link lived through the calamity and knew them as friends#At least a tiny mention would have made sense since she does briefly talk about the Calamity with Sonia and Rauru#I guess it makes a little sense?? In regards to the developers wanting to be hush hush about BotW spoilers for newcomers#But the way they went about it is like they tried to forget it happened. It doesn't feel right.#This might also be my biased speaking cause the original sages? Cool and all#But they feel so hollow compared to the characters that the champions had#Anyways I am still VERY in love with TotK. It's consumed way too much of my time#But I also wanted to talk about this gripe dhdjfjejfjd#Thank you for coming to my TED talk. I'm sorry this is a whole wall of spilling#Anyways will I cope by remembering Age of Calamity is a thing despite how much it obliterates the timeline?#Dang right#Tears of the Kingdom#Breath of the Wild#TotK Spoilers#LoZ TotK#Loz BotW#BotW Champions#Long Post

Preds tend to have different reasons for eating prey. Personally, I love being pred to care for my prey. Being able to hold them close and comfy and safe deep within me. I'd probably also keep a hand on my belly, just as a constant reminder that I'm here, I haven't forgotten about you, and you're completely safe.
The specific reason for it might be different. Maybe you're tired? Come here, I've got a nice, warm, comfy bed for you. Scared? I'll tuck you away somewhere nothing and no-one can hurt you. Or maybe you just want a closer hug, which I'm always happy to oblige for. Soft, comfy, warm, a bit damp, but most of all safe and close.
My belly is a safe space for any prey who wants it.

decides to give names to the bone spirits because I have almost nothing content of these two
Tumblr media
Their fanon names are Gǔtou and Gǔ
this little friend here Báigǔ
Tumblr media
what do you think
Can you think of other types of names?
If you had to give them a personality what would it be?
Do you think Lady Bone Demon could have been affectionate towards them, you know, to give her other nuances of personality by showing that she really is affectionate towards her own people?
Oh that's actually a pretty neat idea to have an entire yaoguai species made of bone people! And thanks for letting me know of some of the fandom lore @maidenofthecloud :D. That said, I'm very ignorant about how precisely naming conventions work for Chinese names, so I'd likely make some major goofs if I tried to come up with something fitting for the bone spirits (X_X).
In terms of personality, given how angry and hollow they look I could imagine them and Monkie Kid's Lady Bone Demon actually fitting quite well as being something like pretas, or hungry ghosts. Pretas are present in a number of Eastern religions, Buddhism included, and while as always keeping in mind that I'm not an expert on this topic, from what I understand the basic idea behind them is that they are the remnants of dead humans who as a result of their bad deeds are now tormented by insatiable hunger, desire or thirst. They do seem to often act as malevolent entities--they possess people and bring bad luck--but there is something very sad about them too because even though they've already died they're doomed to endlessly suffer the torments of desire without even the potential recourse of reincarnation.
As such, I think it could act as a potentially interesting layer to Lady Bone Demon's whole "save the world by killing literally everything & starting over" plan if she was driven to such a twisted form of compassion by seeing, interacting with, and even experiencing herself the kind of unrelenting torment that pretas go through, especially after seeing the deities live it up even though a number of them are responsible for some pretty heinous things that they more or less never have to answer for (though gods from Li Nezha to the Jade Emperor himself all have their own painful pasts). Like if she had viscerally realized just how much unending suffering is in existence, and how even adulated religions seemed incapable of addressing it, you could more easily understand why she decided to just throw the whole reality away. If they had kept Sun Wukong's og backstory it could have made her whole deal an interesting comparison/contrast to the Monkey King himself too, as in the classic he commits all kinds of violence to help his beloved monkey family; she'd just be doing something similar for her beloved pretas, but on a universal scale. Hell, throw in a scene too where the Lady Bone Demon tries to convince SWK of the virtue of her omnicidal plan because of the way even his own lifetimes worth of efforts resulted in nothing but suffering for himself and everyone he ever loved too! It would be a perfect opportunity to FINALLY get some insight as to why that monkey exiled himself for centuries in the first place if nothing else. Not to mention antagonists who are convinced of the righteousness of their actions no matter what are wonderfully scary, and showing how the Lady Bone Demon arrived at her ideas in the first place could really up the sympathy/creep factor!
That said, I know that setting up and exploring that sort of dark situation would likely result in a MUCH higher rating, and probably isn't the kind of thing that could be addressed in a careful and nuanced manner in a silly lego show lol. It is still fun to think about!

There are so many reasons that Barba defending Wheatley was a dumb ass choice for the show.
But. One that really, really bugs me is his doing it to protect Olivia. And while it's so paternalistic and annoying it's not what really gets my goat.
No. It's the fact that we're supposed to believe that Rafael Barba did not prepare and plan for the eventuality that a defense attorney would question her credibility waaay back in 2014 when her confession press conference first aired.
Or at least once she was not indicted and was back on the job.
There is NO WAY he did not run thru this possibility with Liv at the time. No way he did not come up with strategies. No way he didn't fucking grill her on handling these questions, getting comfortable with some verbal tap dancing to avoid committing further perjury but not actual admit to the perjury committed at the Lewis trial.
NO WAY he just crossed his fingers that it would never come up during a trial.
Also, we're expected to believe that no defense attorney went after her about this on cross? For what, 8 fucking years? That the first time any of the various defense attorneys brought it up was because...Richard Wheatley was the defendant?
Not any of the high powered or connected defendants that have been tried in the past 8 years? Just an attorney for Wheatley would play that card.
Yeah fucking right. Bullshit. Complete and utter bullshit.

idk if im late to the party but i thought it was interesting that 1899 used plato's allegory but never really surfaced passed discussing the shadows vs the fire, only to reveal at the end that they themselves are living the rest of the allegory: theyre running away from the sun that is their reality bc it hurts too much. they prefer the shadows on the wall, the darkness of the cave, bc the light of their reality is too painful for them to accept.
