“You're late!” Gareth shouted as Eddie walked into the stadium.
“Sorry, I had a very important date!” Eddie called back cheerily.
“Dude, you're glowing, what the fuck?” Grant scoffed.
Eddie sighed happily and fell back onto a landing pad. “You know that guy?”
“The one you never shut up about?” Gareth growled.
“Yeah, that one.” Eddie beamed. “We just had our first date!” He nearly squealed as he flailed joyously on the soft pad.
“Congratulations,” Dustin said flatly. “We're burning daylight, get on your bike.”
“Ugh!” Eddie groaned. “You're no fun.”
--
Steve sat on his couch, looking at his phone every few minutes, bummed that Eddie hadn't messaged him back. He’d sent a few out, just saying thanks and that he would like to do it again. But it was already past 10 pm and no word. His mind started racing with what-ifs, even if he knew logically that Eddie was likely just tied up with something. When his phone went off twice in a row, he picked it up so fast he almost threw it. There was a notification that Eddie had just posted on Twitter and the other was a direct text.
He looked at the post first and covered his mouth. It was a sweaty shirtless selfie of him in a locker room with the text: ‘A long ass day of training. Going to hit the shower and pass the fuck out.’ He immediately liked it, saved the image, and swapped to the message.
Steve chuckled to himself at his worry. He stared at his phone, and after a couple of minutes, he set it aside, assuming that Eddie was telling the truth in his post and was taking a shower. Steve bit his lip at the thought of him soaking wet, he bet running water was the only thing that could tame his wild hair. He swallowed at the image of Eddie’s sultry eyes staring at him, strands of wet hair clinging erratically to his face. A buzz from his phone snapped him out of his fantasy, laughing when he noticed he had a slight boner. He shook his head and opened the text.
—
Eddie sat on the bench of the locker room, towel drying his hair while he waited for a message back from Steve. He smiled when he didn’t even need to wait a full minute
For the next few weeks, Eddie would join Steve for their lunch breaks, taking him somewhere new each time. Sometimes an outdoor location with takeout, others to a quiet diner or dive bar, but with every passing day they learned more about each other. Eddie exercised his self-control as to not make any romantic or sexual moves until he was certain Steve was okay with it or made the first move himself. Eddie's practice didn't halt on the weekends, but he still made time on his break to meet up with Steve. Every night they would chat on the phone or over text until one of them passed out, and they would be the first person they'd message in the morning.
Eddie's heart sang every day he woke up to a good morning message from Steve before he went to work. He desperately wanted to move their relationship to the next level and had spent a lot of time thinking of just that. Sometimes he’d imagine being balls deep in that plush ass, sinking his fingers into the supple skin as he thrust into him. Other times, he was riding Steve and his obviously thick cock, passionately kissing his soft lips, and caressing his killer body. Those fantasies and more would invade his mind nearly every night in the locker room showers or when he got home, urging him to masturbate his frustrations away. He'd never been so attracted to someone and it drove him up the wall to have him at his fingertips, but unable to act on his desires.
Steve, on the other hand, had Robin pestering him every day. “Did you kiss him yet?” “When are you going to make a move?” “Are you officially dating?” “Why haven't you kissed him?” Etc. She also stated that she missed hanging out with him on their breaks, but it did give her an excuse to spend more time with Nancy. When alone, Steve found his own thoughts drifting to Eddie. He didn't fully understand why Eddie was avoiding anything beyond friendly gestures when he obviously wanted more. Was he waiting for Steve to make the first move? He ended up scrolling through Eddie's social media for images to help his own fantasies. Luckily Eddie liked posting shirtless images of him sweating and messy from practice or a gig.
Slowly, Steve accumulated enough images to facilitate a folder of their own, and that ended up becoming his personal spank bank. He wanted Eddie carnally and not being able to hold him was tugging on his nerves. With the help of Eddie’s pictures, he would relieve himself to the thought of riding him, still a mess from practice. He wondered what it would be like kissing someone with lip rings. Would they get in the way or add a pleasant texture? What other piercings did he have? He was also curious if the nipple piercings increased their sensitivity. Exploring Eddie’s body in his mind became an almost nightly affair.
The Wednesday before the show, Eddie took Steve to the bar he got the burgers from on their first date. As usual, they talked the whole time about anything that came to mind. When he dropped Steve off at HOARS, he placed his hand on Steve's, stopping him from leaving immediately. “Hey.”
Steve settled into the seat and looked at Eddie. He flipped his hand over and laced their fingers together.
Eddie’s whole body tingled. “I-” Eddie smiled at their hands; it was the closest they'd gotten to being affectionate. “I won't be able to come by for a few days, but after the show on Saturday, I'll be free for at least a week before we start up practices again. So maybe I can take you out on a proper date for once.”
Steve smiled and gripped Eddie's hand. “Well, it’ll suck spending my lunches without you. I've gotten kind of used to it. But I like the idea of being able to spend more than an hour with you in a day.”
“Me too.” Eddie didn't want to let go of his hand but knew he had to get back to work, so he slid his hand out of Steve’s. “But you should get back, Robin is glaring.”
Steve pursed his face and looked over at Robin, who was leaning her shoulder on the garage opening, waiting for Steve with a smug grin. He sighed and opened the car door. He stroked his fingers through a few stray strands of Eddie's hair before saying, “I guess I'll see you Saturday.” He let the hair slide out of his fingers as he got out of the car and walked to Robin.
Eddie sat in the car biting his stupid smile and touching the strand Steve touched with the hand Steve held. His whole way back to practice he was unable to remove the grin from his face.
--
“Did you kiss him?” was the first thing out of Robin's mouth as Steve approached.
“I almost did, but you staring at us kind of killed the mood.”
“Sorry, but I needed you in here.”
“I know, but I don't think I'll be spending my lunch with him anymore, or at least for a while.”
“What's going on?” She almost sounded panicked.
“I'm not sure but I'm guessing it has to do with his practice for Saturday.”
“Oh, I'm so excited to go, and Mike is losing his shit about it. Apparently, he's been wanting to see it for a while now.”
“Eddie said he'd show me around the stadium after the show, maybe he'd be willing to show you guys around?”
“I dunno, that sounds like the perfect time to steal a kiss in a secluded place.” She nudged Steve’s ribs, who laughed and shoved her back.
“Lay off, the timing just hasn't been right.”
“Whatever you say Dingus, but in my opinion, you're just being a pansy.” She stated waving a wrench at him before bending over the engine of the car in front of her.
“Of course, he is,” Billy interjected. “He always has been.” He grabbed the tool he came over for. “Been enjoying your new hotshot boyfriend? If I was hearing Robin correctly you haven't even kissed yet, pathetic.” He huffed mockingly. “Didn't we straight up fuck on our first date?”
“If you'd call that a date,” Steve muttered under his breath, lowering himself to the tire of the car.
Robin cringed and tried to ignore them when she saw the look on Billy's face. He was glaring at Steve, gripping the socket wrench in his hand. “The fuck did you just say, Harrington?”
“All we did was fuck; I wouldn't call that a date.” Steve stood back up, turning around and glaring at Billy.
“I would,” Tommy called from the other side of the garage.
Billy smirked at Tommy’s comment. “I didn't hear you complaining.” He stood to his full height and walked up to Steve.
Steve kept his stare flat and unamused. “Why complain when you can't feel anything?”
“You motherfucker,’’ Billy hissed, gripping the wrench tighter.
Robin didn't know whether to interrupt, call for backup, or laugh, so instead, she just stood there and watched.
“Boys!” Nancy called from the office door. “Get back to work, you're already behind schedule.” Robin turned to Nancy and silently thanked her in a praying motion, receiving a sweet smile in return.
“Yeah, get back to work, Hargrove,” Steve hissed.
Billy's lips pursed in anger, grabbing Steve by the collar. “Listen here, asswipe.” He pressed his face less than an inch from Steve's. “I keep you on here as a courtesy, I could kick you to the curb at the drop of a hat, so watch your fucking step.” He pushed Steve as he walked away, almost landing him in the engine of the car he and Robin were working on.
Steve's blood was boiling, he wanted to keep knocking Billy from his high horse but knew nothing good would come from it. He spat in Billy's direction to make himself feel better before turning his attention back to his job.
--
“Dude, what the fuck is wrong with you?” Gareth asked when he saw Eddie sitting on his bike playing with his hair.
“Sorry!” Eddie called back and slid his helmet on, getting back into practice.
Gareth shook his head and followed him on his own bike.
--
For the next couple of days, Steve had more interaction with Eddie through his promotional posts on social media than he did in person, or even through text or call. In the posts that Eddie made, Steve could see how tired he looked, and knew that was the only reason their conversations were so short. He didn’t know what to think of all the fans fawning over him. Within minutes of every post he made with a picture of himself, it was flooded with likes and comments on how hot he was. Steve agreed that he deserved the praise, but a part of him wanted all of it for himself. He’d long since scrolled through every inch of any social media he could find and had all of them set to alert him of any updates. Eddie didn’t post all too often, but Steve was there for every one.
On Friday he didn’t hear a peep from Eddie, either directly or online. It was weird not seeing him for two days, it made Steve realize how much he actually enjoyed their time together. Robin even called him a downer when they returned to their usual shared break.
“Sorry, I guess I just got used to spending this time with him,” Steve said, poking his food.
“You’ve got it bad for him, huh?” Nancy asked.
“Yeah, I think I do.” Steve looked out the window into the parking lot.
“Then kiss him already!” Robin demanded.
Steve snorted. “I will, okay? I plan to after the show on Saturday.”
“Fucking finally!” she exclaimed.
Nancy laughed and shook her head. “I think it’s cute that they’re taking it slow.”
“Cute, but infuriating!” Robin groaned loudly.
“It’s also cute how invested you are.” Nancy smiled at Robin who blushed immediately.
“Well, he’s my best friend, of course I’m invested in his happiness,” she muttered and looked away.
--
On Saturday morning he woke to a series of texts from Eddie.
Eddie audibly squeaked when he read the last text, startling his cat awake. He held the phone to his chest and rolled back and forth, nearly falling off the bed. “He missed me,” he said quietly then shouted it into a pillow.
--
When the sun was threatening to set, Steve and his entourage arrived at the venue. They waited in line and handed their tickets off to a small sweet looking girl. She was around the same age as Max with wavy brown hair, her nametag said ‘Jane’. “Oh,” she exclaimed when she saw the tickets. “Will!” She called softly, and a tall awkward boy about the same age walked around the corner. “They are the V.I.P.s that Eddie mentioned.” The girl had a uniquely deliberate way of speaking. “Can you show them to their seats?”
“Sure.” Will nodded. “This way.” He walked toward the stadium seats.
Max looked back at Jane, giving her a small wave and received one in return, along with a soft smile. Will guided them to a separate section, that was dead center along one of the sides. It had softer seating and thick plastic panes on the sides facing the other guests, but the barrier facing the stadium was the same as everywhere else, a chest-height metal fence. The stadium itself was smaller than Steve was expecting.
Will opened a small door in the plastic paneling and let them enter. “I hope it doesn’t bother you, but myself and Jane, the girl at the front will be joining you after the show starts.”
“Not at all!” Max and Mike said eagerly. Will laughed and nodded, returning to the front.
“What was that?” Nancy asked Mike as she sat down between him and Robin.
“Uh,” Mike stammered awkwardly. “He seems like a nice guy, I wanted to talk to him a little more.”
Max shrugged and answered honestly. “I just thought that Jane chick was cute, I’d love to get to know her a little more. She has to be kickass if she’s involved in all of this.” She looked around excitedly.
“She was pretty cute, wasn’t she?” Mike stated, looking into the center of the stadium. Max glared at Mike and watched as people filled the stands.
Steve stood and walked up to the fence, getting a better look at the setup for the stunts. There was a paved racetrack that looped the entire outer rim of the stadium. In the center was what he assumed was their pit, it looked similar to the entry of a parking garage, where the paved road took a sharp downward dip into a black void. Flanking the pit, were two high concrete ramps. The top of the pit was flat and resembled a stage, from the center of it, a thick pole stuck straight up and held a massive hoop between the ramps.
Steve jumped when he saw movement from inside the pit, but it was too dark to make out. Eddie’s face poked out of the dark pit and waved excitedly at Steve before he was pulled away by some unseen force. Steve laughed and took his seat next to Robin.
When 8 pm struck, all the stadium lights went off simultaneously with a loud electric crackle. The boom of heavy rock music filled the arena and with a crescendo, large funnels of fire shot from either side of the pit stage. A figure walked out of the smoke and onto the stage as the fire died out and the music faded into the background. The figure’s voice echoed through the speakers. “Welcome to Hellfire!” The figure pumped his fist into the air, and with the cheers of the crowd, a set of red fireworks shot out from behind the stage before a spotlight landed on him. It was a guy, probably about Max and Mike’s age with chin-length dreadlocks. “For those of you who are new, my name is Lucas and I’ll be your host for the evening. For those of you who are returning, welcome back freaks!”
“God, is everyone that works here attractive? Jesus.” Max exclaimed looking at the host. Mike rolled his eyes.
“But I know well enough that you aren’t here for lil’ ol’ me. You’re here for the kings of the road, the masters of the pit, the freaks that risk their lives to entertain you sick mother fuckers. The Hellfire Club! Let's hear some noise for our pyromaniac, Dustin!” Lucas pointed below him as a narrow spotlight lit up a man in a welder’s suit. “Our pit crew, Jeff and Grant!” Two more spotlights lit a man on either side of Dustin. They were each wearing a mechanic’s jumpsuit, Grant was in red, and Jeff was in black. “And the main reason you all came together! Gareth the Great!” A large flair shot off to the right of the stadium and a man in a red racing suit on a matching red bike sped out of the gate framed by the flares. He rode a loop around the track as the crowd went wild, the cheers picked up when he sped toward a ramp and launched into the air, flipping his bike, landing safely on the other side and skidding to a halt in front of grant. “And our leader, the one and only, Eddie the Banished!” The cheers reached a new level of chaotic.
Steve stood and rushed to the railing as flares lit up the left gate. Eddie shot out of it in a solid black racing suit and a bike to match. He did a loop in the opposite direction of Gareth and sped up the other ramp. When Eddie launched in the air, he added more flair to his jump by lifting himself off the seat momentarily and landing back in place when he hit the ramp. He skidded to a halt in front of Jeff and the spotlight lit up the whole crew as the fans cheered. Steve was at a loss for words. He’d never seen Eddie on a motorcycle before, but damn did he look good on one. the suit he wore was skintight, so his slender form was perfectly outlined.
“Without further ado, Let’s get this party started!” Lucas shouted and a plume of smoke encased the entire pit and crew as loud rock music picked up again. Out of the cloud, Eddie and Gareth bolted, a trail of smoke followed each as they sped in opposite directions. They did some simple ground stunts, like wheelies and drifting as they picked up speed. Simultaneously, they hit the ramps and sped toward each other, shooting into the air and landing on the opposite ramp. They kept their momentum and did a half loop around the track to the other ramp and launched into the air again, this time doing a flip. They continued to do that same motion, and with each jump, the stunts got more and more dangerous. The last one launched them through a ring of fire while they entirely separated themselves from their bikes mid-flip before landing on the other side.
Steve was dumbfounded. He’d only seen stunts like these in movies. He’d never seen them done in person; let alone by someone he knew. He was kind of afraid to sit back down, he was certain he had a noticeable boner. After a couple more loops they drifted into the pit and within a few seconds, they were pulling out in race cars. One black and one red. They skillfully drifted around the tight turns and headed for the ramps. The crowd gasped when parts of the ramp dropped as they got onto it, sending the cars into a midair corkscrew. The ramps returned to normal before the cars landed. They pulled the same stunt, but the ramps didn’t reset, both cars landed upside down and slid helplessly down their corresponding ramp. The music halted, allowing the sound of the cars scraping down the ramp to resonate through the stands. Steve gripped the fence in horror as he watched the black car slam into the concrete wall at the end of the ramp. He shouted, “Eddie!” when he saw it dramatically burst into flames. Robin and Nancy hurried to the railing next to him.
The whole stadium was silent, beyond the mutters of the worried crowd. Steve didn’t know what to do, his heart was in his throat and all he could do was watch and hope. The door to the upside-down cars opened in unison and the drivers crawled out, their bodies aflame.
“It’s going to take more than that to keep this freak down!” Eddie’s voice rang through the speakers, sending the crowd into a frenzy as the music started back up.
Steve fell to his knees, relieved it was just a bit, but felt like he needed to kick Eddie’s ass for that one. He heard Robin mutter, “motherfucker,” before returning to her seat with Nancy. Jeff and Grant rode their motorcycles to them, riding in circles while they dowsed them with a fire extinguisher. They shook off the foam and took the bikes. Jeff and Grant hurried back to the pit as Eddie and Gareth started their loops again. The flaming cars became a jumping obstacle in their course. After a few opposing loops, they drifted in front of the pit and started riding tandem. They jumped the cars in perfect unison and skidded together as they hit the ramp. Once in the air they flipped in sync and did a full loop around the course, scaling the ramp they’d just landed on. In that jump, they managed to swap bikes midair.
The lights dimmed out and the music followed. From the bike undercarriages and along the rider’s suits came a bright red light from Eddie and a yellow light from Gareth. The central hoop came to life and unfolded into a spherical cage. No lights were on it, so it was only noticeable by the natural light of the night. A gate on either side of the cage fell open.
Once again, they rode in opposite directions and made their way up the ramp, but at a much slower pace. Once in the central cage, they rocked their bikes back and forth at the bottom, gaining momentum as the doors closed. A more gentle, almost epic music crept in. Once the doors were fully closed, they began riding in circles trailing their light’s afterimage behind them. They rode in tandem for a little while, creating a red and yellow stripe. Gradually the red stripe elevated to the top of the spherical cage. With a sudden drop of the base in the music, the riders changed their course to create an ‘x’ with their lights. The rings of light morphed into parallel lines before returning to crossing the lines in the opposite direction. The lights continued to move until there was only one fire-orange line in the center of the sphere.
Large flares lit up the base of the cage as the top of it opened and the riders shot out of it upside down, twisting their bikes so they landed on their designated ramp. The two used their full speed to create lines of light around the track before drifting past each other in front of the pit, stopping in time for a large firework to shoot past the cage, lighting up the sky with a giant pentagram. Before it fully faded, large spotlights hit the crew as the crowd cheered wildly, Steve and his friends included. The crew took a bow as the spotlights shut off, and the stadium lights turned on. “Thanks for coming!” Lucas’ voice carried over the speakers. “See you next time! And don’t try anything you saw today at home!”
Steve turned to face the others and noticed that Jane and Will had shown up at some point. Mike and Max were chatting happily with them. “Eddie said to meet him by the entrance after the show,” Steve stated to the group. “So whoever wants an inside look, come along.”
“We’re meeting Dustin and Lucas too,” Will said, standing up. “So, we’ll come with you, if that’s okay?”
“Of course, it is!” Mike said quickly.
Nancy rolled her eyes and followed the group as they walked out of the stadium. When they left, they found the crew greeting the people that showed up. Steve didn’t know how to handle watching Eddie sign some chick’s massive tits, but all worry faded when he saw Eddie’s expression change as soon as he saw them coming.
“What’d you think?” Eddie said eagerly, running up to meet Steve and the others.
Steve smiled, liking the look of Eddie in the tight black suit. “It was-”
“That was amazing!” Mike interrupted. “You’re Eddie, right?”
“Yup, Eddie the Banished, at your service. You must be Mike, am I right?” Eddie smirked at his eagerness.
“Holy shit, you’ve heard of me?”
“Steve said he was going to bring Nancy’s lil’ bro, so I connected the dots.” He wrapped an arm around Steve’s shoulder and waved everyone over to the side. “I just need to finish greeting everyone, then I can give you a tour.” He let go of Steve and scanned him briefly before saying, “hang tight,” and returning to the line of fans waiting for him.
“Mike!” Nancy said firmly. “That was rude.”
“It’s fine Nance,” Steve reassured. “He’s just excited.”
Max and Mike returned to chatting with Jane and Will while they waited. Robin slid up to Steve, “So when you gonna do it?”
“When the time is right, I don’t want to rush it.” Steve’s eyes were locked on Eddie’s body, vacuum sealed in that outfit. “God, he looks good.”
“He ain’t bad,” Robin agreed, leaning on Steve’s shoulder. “I think you got quite the catch there, man.”
“Shut up,” Steve laughed and elbowed her off of him.
“Even in the dark I can tell you’re blushing,” she teased.
“Fucking stop,” Steve pushed her with an embarrassed laugh.
“Then stop being a pansy,” she said as she pushed him back, knocking him off balance.
Steve felt his back hit something and he turned to see that Eddie had caught him. “Shit, sorry,” Steve apologized, getting properly to his feet.
“You’re fine,” Eddie said with a soft smile, gazing at Steve as if he was the only thing that existed. He found Steve’s inability to meet his eyes too precious but held himself back from acting on it in any way. “You ready?”
“Uh yeah,” Steve shook his head.
“Hell yeah!” Mike shouted.
Eddie wrapped his arm around Steve’s shoulders again and leaned near his ear. “If I do anything that makes you uncomfortable in front of your friends, let me know.”
“I doubt you will,” Steve said, turning to face him, realizing he’d just put them in the perfect position to kiss. He could tell that Eddie noticed as well and they both glanced away.
Robin walked behind them rolling her eyes in annoyance. Eddie walked them into a locker room and introduced them to the crew.
“No fucking way!” Dustin called, pulling the welder’s helmet off. “Out of all the Steves in the goddamn world, this is your Steve?”
“Holy shit!” Steve lit up and ran over to give Dustin a hug.
“You know each other?” Eddie squinted.
Steve looked over at Eddie with a big smile. “I used to babysit this shit stain.”
Eddie snorted at Dustin being called a shit stain. “I cannot see you as a babysitter.”
“It’s a long story,” Steve stated and turned back to Dustin. “It’s been what, like-”
“Eight years?” Dustin finished.
“Something like that.”
Dustin stepped back and looked over Steve. “God, you were such a womanizer back then, to think you’ve gone bi is a huge fucking surprise.”
Steve glanced at Eddie briefly. “Well, people change.”
Lucas walked up and shook Steve’s hand. “It’s nice to finally have a face to the name Eddie keeps talking about.”
“What?” Steve was surprised that Eddie would talk about him in front of his friends.
Gareth groaned, kicking his boots off. “Don’t you mean a face to the ass?”
“Gareth!” Eddie hissed.
“Pardon?” Steve furrowed his brow.
“Yeah, this guy has a shit ton of pic-mf” Eddie covered Gareth’s mouth.
“Shut up,” he growled.
“He has a folder on his phone,” Jeff continued where Gareth left off. “Full of just pictures of your ass.”
“Jeff! You traitor!” Eddie whined, releasing Gareth’s mouth, wiping the saliva off of his hand and onto the side of his face, making him cringe.
“Really?” Steve looked at Eddie, playfully annoyed, ignoring Robin laughing her ass off in the background.
Eddie sighed and sat down on a bench. “Yes,” he said defeated.
Steve snorted and leaned into Eddie’s ear whispering so only he could hear him. “I have a folder of you too.” Eddie’s face shot beet red.
“The fuck did he say to you?” Grant looked at Eddie’s red face in awe.
“Nothing! Nothing!” Eddie stood and looked into the middle ground, he was glad he was wearing a cup under his tight clothes or things would be a little awkward in the well-lit crowded room. “Let’s get on with the tour.”
“You guys go ahead, I’m heading out,” Gareth stated.
Jeff and Grant agreed, but Lucas and Dustin decided to stay behind. Eddie and Dustin led the large group around, showing them the inner workings and the track. Eddie found Mike’s extreme eagerness and enthusiasm amusing and offered to take him on a few loops with his bike. Nancy was unsure of the safety, but eventually stopped fighting and let him. She nearly screamed when he jumped over one of the crashed cars. Max was fascinated by their pit stop and asked a lot of technical questions about their setup and how it differs from a racing pit.
After they’d seen the whole thing, Mike and Max gave out their numbers to their new friends and said their goodbyes. After everyone else left for the cars, Steve stood in front of Eddie, just outside of the locker room. “Thanks,” he said, still unable to meet Eddie’s eyes. “I had a great time. Really, that was amazing.” He forced himself to look at Eddie. “You were amazing.”
It took everything in Eddie’s power not to kiss him right then and there.
“Contact me when you make it home okay?” He placed a kiss on Eddie’s cheek and backed away. “Night.”
“N- night.” Eddie looked at him dumbfounded. He touched the cheek and watched Steve get into the car with Robin and Nancy. He sucked in his lips and walked back into the locker room.
--
“The cheek!!??” Robin shouted. “What, are we in fucking grade school!?”
“I panicked, okay?” Steve defended.
“You’re goddamn hopeless,” Robin grumbled.
“By the looks of things,” Nancy glanced into the rearview mirror at Steve’s red face. “Even a kiss on the cheek meant something.”
Steve opened his mouth to retort but just pouted. He could feel that his face was red, so there was no use fighting. Robin snorted.
--
Eddie was giddy his whole way home and gave Chrissy a little spin when he saw her.
“I’ll take it that the show went well?” Wayne asked from Eddie’s couch.
“Fuck the show!” Eddie said happily, falling onto the couch next to his uncle and beaming at the memory. “I got a kiss on the cheek.” He placed his hand over where Steve kissed him.
Wayne chuckled and shook his head. “I don’t think I’ve seen you this happy since you got your first stunt gig, and just over a kiss on the cheek, not even a proper one.”
“You’d understand if you met him. He’s so fucking cute!” Eddie flailed on the couch, hugging a mew out of Chrissy.
“Sorry I missed your show, kid. Work called in. I would have loved to meet him once and for all.”
“You will!” Eddie spun so his legs were on the back of the couch and his head was hanging over the bottom edge. He held the cat over him and smiled at her. “I don’t plan on letting this one go, he’s too perfect.” He set Chrissy on his chest and whipped his phone out of his pocket. “Oh right! He asked me to message him.” He sent a simple text saying he made it home.
“To be young and in love,” Wayne sighed, petting Chrissy.
“Yeah,” Eddie hummed, setting his phone on his stomach and staring up at the ceiling. “I think I am. It feels like my chest is going to explode every time I’m near him.” He perked when he heard his phone chime and responded, his face plastered with joy. Wayne watched affectionately as he enjoyed Eddie’s happiness.
--
Steve was lying on his bed after a shower as he thought about Eddie’s face when he kissed him. He smiled when his phone buzzed, and it was Eddie letting him know he made it home.
Eddie bit the top of his phone as he smiled at his uncle. “I have a date on Monday,” he muttered around his phone.
Wayne laughed and scruffed Eddie’s head.
--
Eddie spent all of Sunday helping clean and reset the stadium. The whole time, he had Steve on his Bluetooth headset so they could chat while he worked. He mentioned that he had a small surprise for when they go out on Monday. Steve was worried about being a mess from work, but Eddie assured him it would be fine, and that he liked the look of him after work. The rest of Eddie’s Hellfire crew teased him all day for talking to Steve. From kissy faces to crude gestures, Eddie ignored it all and remained in bliss just hearing his voice.
