Symbolika i forma terapii - obraz "Beata Beatrix" Rossetti

W połowie XIX wieku powstał jedne z najbardziej rozpoznawalnych obrazów tamtego czasu -Beata Beatrix. Rossetti sportretował na nim swoją zmarłą żonę Elizabeth Siddal, wypełniając dzieło symboliką. Jakie elementy można weń znaleźć?

Historia powstania obrazu

Malując jedno ze swoich najbardziej rozpoznawalnych dzieł, Beata Beatrix, Rossetti jednocześnie stworzył ilustrację do jednego z tomów Dantego "Życie nowego", a zarazem złożył hołd zmarłej żonie. Miała ona bowiem targnąć się na swoje życie w wyniku poronienia i domniemanych zdrad Rossettiego. Byłą jego muzą, kochanką i uczennicą, zmarła w skutek przedawkowania laudanum, czyli nalewki z opium.

Beata Beatrix Rossetti - symbolika

Dzieło utrzymane jest w ciemnozielonej kolorystyce przeplatanej złotem i odcieniami czerwieni. Kobieta wygląda jakby była w półśnie, niemal oczekując nadejścia śmierci. W obrazie Beata Beatrix Rossetti odwołuje się do symboliki. Czerwona postać po lewej stronie kompozycji jest personifikacją miłości, czarna po drugiej stronie odzwierciedla postać samego malarza, mak to symbol snu i narkotycznej rośliny, gołąb najpewniej reprezentuje Ducha Świętego, zegar słoneczny wskazuje zaś godzinę, w którym odeszła ukochana artysty.
