A collaboration with @WritersDremen on Instagram! All painting aspects are my own, and the poetry belongs to her. From a dream we created this hybrid of poetry and painting, presented in 2 panels (both were physically painted on 8"x10" canvas panels, while her poem was laid overtop digitally.) It's not often that my works aren't founded in reality, and I absolutely loved bringing her words to life with a figure that shares both our likenesses. The painting is meant to capture a snippet in time; I tried to pause at the moment of desperation within the poem, while also including the ethereal and dreamlike state of the writer. Prints can be found on my website.

The Black Sun was leaving these evening lands, reddened with the hues of sunset. It had already been replaced by the Moon, whose livid eye followed every movement of the forest, the trembling of branches, and the flight of ghosts. She was buried in this black earth that had sheltered her long ago. She became a tree, dark branches reaching from her chest, sorrows ripened into rotten fruit... She wanted to give her heart to the forest, but its shadow did not accept it, so she threw it into the forest lake. Now and to this day, on dark evenings, its waters take on the hue of a maroon haze, and when you touch its waves, you can feel the heartbeat coming from the depths.
