Straight up I have read these books probably 36 times since they came out. And I may or may not be rewriting the entire series plus more in fanfic I’ll post on ao3 if you’re ever interested. -k
Ummmm, yes?!?! Definitely send me the fanfic name whenever you post so that I (and other dormant, but still obsessed DP fans) can read it!

Rereading the Darkerst Powers series and Screaming, crying, throwing up-- Chloe thinking about Derek when she's with Simon, Derek thinking about Chloe and then sending Simon to do all the romantic things he should be enjoying with her bc he thinks she likes Simon and doesn't want to spend time with him 😭😭

Please tell me one of the 800 of you guys also had a Darkest Powers phase where you were obsessed with Derek Souza and wanted so badly to be a necromancer like Chloe

Some things I've been wondering lately is what specific media did people on the ace/aro spectrum naturally gravitate towards before they realized those identities had labels/a community associated with them.
I grew up when the teen paranormal/dystopian romance genre was at its height, so my book recommendations are going to reflect that:
The Darkest Powers trilogy by Kelley Armstrong: This was the first ever published book series that had a realistic (to me) romance. It was both a slow burn and a friends-to-lovers. Best of all you can easily interpret both the female protagonist and her male love interest as demi by how they're written. They're still one of my favorite nostalgic couples to this day.
Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead: This series is a spin-off from Vampire Academy and was the second published book series that I read that did the slow burn/friends-to-lovers tropes, but it did it even better. Mainly because their romance developed over six books instead of three. Also, the books acknowledge the female protagonist's sexuality. The term "demisexual" isn't used, but the basic definition of it is in the text to describe her feelings.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins: I think nobody needs an explanation for this one, but if you've only watched the movies, you miss a lot of the context/nuance of Katniss' POV. I've seen Katniss headcanoned as having a lot of different sexualities, but she reads very strongly as a demiromantic asexual to me, personally.
Feel free to leave your own recommendations in the comments/reblogs!

That's what we all want, isn't it? Power without price.

I needed to draw her because most art makes her seem a lot older than she is and I have to remind myself they were only 15

9 on the Valentine’s ask ❤️
9. What ship represents the kind of relationship you’d love to have?
So, I had to dig far back in my brain for this one. My first ever favourite ship. Which is not teen wolf, instead from Darkest Powers by Kelley Armstrong (but still includes a werewolf named Derek).
Derek and Chloe. They are so sweet. From the way Chloe stays with Derek through his first failed change, and he hums her song on the bus. And how he listens when she talks about her insecurities and then tries to help her quell them.
If I had to have a relationship like a ship, it would be them because they support each other, and grew well together.

I like to think that Derek did eventually meet the Pack, and that he hit it off with Clay once the mutual distrust of strangers wore off. That Clay would take him to museums, and encourage his academic pursuits.
Meanwhile, Chloe would meet Jaime and Eve, and she'd figure out the ropes of being a necromancer more, and they'd bond over the oddities of being a necromancer dating a werewolf together.
Tori would meet Savannah, who would help her learn to control and hone her powers, and with Paige and Lucas, get more involved in the larger spell-caster world, alongside Simon.
And as they integrate with the Interracial council, and they learn of the Edison Group - the Cortez Cabal, led by Lucas, pursues the St Cloud Cabal for their genetic manipulation, and they manage to shut it down, maybe even passing an inter-Cabal MOU (because Cabal bureaucracy ofc) about no genetic experiments on supernaturals - something Benicio probably would not bother with, but it's important to Lucas and Savannah (and thus Sean and Bryce), so ends up happening.

Starting to realize the reason I love stranger things is bc it’s the closest I will ever get to watch something that reminds me of the darkest powers series 👀🥹

I finished The Summoning, the first in the Darkest Powers series by Kelley Armstrong.
I found myself absolutely hooked on it for around three quarters of the book, but something caused that interest to wane later down the line. I'm not sure if it was the pacing or something else, but my interest was recaptured again not long after so it might just be a case of that particular section being not very interesting to my weird brain.
I don't know whether or not I can consider this book a favourite, but I do plan on continuing the series. It's quite good so far!

For the anon who submitted the last question about me doing a character comparison between Derek and Simon from The Darkest Powers Trilogy by Kelley Armstrong and Jonathan and Will from Stranger Things, I’m not ignoring it, but let me finish rereading the series (I’m almost done with The Awakening, so book 2) before I do this because I haven’t read through this since I was 14, but I will be happy because all of the guys involved make my heart happy so absolutely.
