Rhaenyra Targaryen, The Black Queen
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"When I'm Queen, I will create a new order."
The iconic lead of House of the Dragon. I know the overall message of ASOIAF is that royalty and absolute power are inherently destructive and wrong... but I'm kind of a simp for purple eyed silver haired queens.
This is a lovely miniature, designed as Rhaenys, Aegon's wife, but works beautifully for a younger Rhaenyra. As you can imagine with HotD, I've been doing a lot of red and black - I've gone for a very dark crimson, and very dark rich gold highlights. It gives them a very moody regal look appropriate for dragonlords of a volcano island. It also helps that silver gold hair really pop! You can just make out a dagger on her hip, obviously the shape doesn't match but I painted it up as the dragonbone knife.

The Urnes Stave Viking Sword – Brown Scabbard
The Urnes Staves Viking Sword is our tribute to one of the most beautiful structures in Norway. Named for the 12th-century church which inspired its knotwork designs, this one-handed Viking Sword is a battle-ready weapon. The Urnes Staves Viking Sword is a hand forged, modern take on a classic, 10-11th century Viking weapon. Like many historical Viking Swords the blade is rigid, wide, and deeply fullered, allowing it to be an extremely effective cutting and slashing weapon. The Ebony handle is carved with knotwork from its namesake church, and the bronze fittings bear the same delicate designs. The Urnes Staves Viking Sword from Darksword is both beautiful and functional.
Viking weaponry, jewelry, and other relics are frequently decorated with distinctive artistic designs. These designs are formed of detailed knotwork and frequently depict animals, gods, and other symbolism from Norse mythology. It is especially interesting, therefore, that a 12th century Christian church in Norway should be covered with some of the most intricate knotwork designs still surviving from the Viking era.
The Urnes Stave Church is an incredibly unique building for several reasons. It is constructed in an architectural style unique to Norway in which large staves form the load-bearing portion of the structure. Over a thousand of these churches used to exist in Medieval Norway, now there are less than thirty. The Urnes Stave Church represents not only the best-preserved example of one of these churches, but one that has stunning carvings along much of the preserved structure. In addition, the Church was built on the location of much older buildings, and contains decorative carvings that are almost a hundred years older than the rest of the church – this indicates the previous buildings may have been churches from the era when Christianity arrived in Norway.
The carvings themselves are of a distinctive style, so distinctive that it has become known as the Urnes style. This style appears to have been developed by the original builders, who likely constructed the church on behalf of a wealthy medieval family. Fierce animals flow across the wood, their elongated bodies intertwined, depicting conflict and battle. Scenes depicted may be biblical, or may hold some connection to older features of Norse mythology. The distinctive lines of the Urnes style – contrasted broad and narrow contours, curving in a seemingly endless flow – are what sets it apart from other Norse artwork from the same era. It is this Urnes style that has been reproduced on the hilt of Darksword Armory’s Urnes Stave Viking Sword.
The Urnes Stave Viking Sword is a Darksword design updated with knotwork inspired by its namesake. The broad, solid blade is hand made from 5160 steel, and has the classic wide, shallow fuller so common to Viking swords of this era. Like most Viking Swords it falls into the Type X of Oakeshott’s Typology, however using the Petersen Typology (the definitive Typology of Viking Swords) the Urnes Staves would fall into the Type U group. Swords in this group are among the most commonly reproduced in the modern era and resemble the “traditional” Viking Sword with their broad -tipped blades, wide fullers, and highly decorated hilt. Swords such as these would be highly effective slashing weapons, often paired with the wide, round Viking shield that so much of effective Viking combat revolved around.
The blade is tempered and resilient like all of Darksword Armory’s swords – however, it is the fittings where this sword’s personality truly shines. Bronze fittings, cast using the lost wax process, depict Urnes style knotwork with contrasting broad and narrow lines. The handle itself is similarly carved from Ebony and fitted to the tang with epoxy before the pommel is hot peened. This method of construction results in Darksword Armory’s famous durability. The Urnes Stave Viking Sword is a stunning example of a Viking reproduction, and is inspired by one of the most beautiful buildings in Norway. We hope you enjoy owning a sword fit for any Viking chieftain.

Hello! I was watching this Adam Savage video on youtube and it's about antique swords at the MET, so naturally I thought of you. It's a rather recent one titled "Adam Savage Meets Real Ancient Swords!" on Adam Savage's Tested channel. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it, because it was so interesting. Sadly, I can't add a link, but it should be easy to find with the title. Hope you're having a great day!
I've actually already seen this, but many thanks for thinking of me; that\s how I get to see / hear / read stuff I'd otherwise miss!
it's a great video, and I immediately showed it to @dduane because Adam reacted in the same way I would have done - even to the sword he liked best, which of course indicates his excellent taste in weapons...
:-D
Here's the link:
youtube
Conservator Sean Belair mentions (at 6:17) "...another identical one floating around..." This photo shows several; Darksword Armoury, Albion Swords and Ronin Katana repros, and two museum originals.
Tumblr media
The one Sean refers to, given his use of "identical", is probably the "Harriet Dean" sword which reappeared a few years ago.
Tumblr media
These "Dean" swords were a pair acquired by Dr Bashford Dean, the Met's first curator of arms and armour, one of which he donated to the museum. The second was held by his sister Harriet and, on her death, was auctioned off and vanished (probably into a private collection) for three-quarters of a century before turning up at Christies in 2015.
Its value was estimated at £70-100,000 and it went for £386,500 (!) - but where it went, to a museum collection or back into private hands, I have no idea...

Can we get a sneak peek of the new RoY chapter?👀👀👀pretty pretty please?
“No need for that, Darksword, but have some mercy on us. He’s soaked, love. I want to hear him squelch.”
A mortified noise escaped him, and he turned his scalded cheek to hide behind the curve of Obi-Wan’s ear. In the force his master pulsed with that well known refrain he had grown so accustomed to these past days. No—no—no—no—no
Not here, Anakin thought frantically. Not like this.
But one hundred billion credits would be the price paid. The probable outcome of the war, the fate of the Republic, billions of lives. Humiliation was a miniscule price by comparison.
Do it, master. Do it—do it—do it—do it—

It’s my birthday tomorrow (assuming you see this on the 26th) so as an early gift to myself I’ve drawn an OC who’s been rattling around in my brain for a while and now I’m gonna tell you ‘bout 'em! This is Warble, they use any pronouns. they started out as my interpretation of Shadow Wilson, but I went a little crazy and he pretty much became a maxwil shipkid? Yeah idk how either. Basically Wilson convinced Maxwell try and make a shadow puppet out of Wilson’s shadow(for science ofc) and Warble was the result. He wears the sweater so that if it gets too dark he can use it to ground itself, as to avoid a “pumpkin man in a pumpkin house” scenario. For similar reasons they shouldn’t be given a darksword, for all the normal reasons you shouldn’t give children weapons but also bc he’ll be like “am I made of sword or is the sword made of me?”. Ohh ya they’re mentally like 8-10 yrs old, and physically something like 2 months old. It’s sososo exited to help anybody with anything he perceives as a TaskTM , but they’re not very good at most stuff cuz they little. He can also shape shift, but generally prefers to be Wilson-shaped when possible, they also can’t change it’s size though, so if it shapeshifts into an adult he becomes A Little Guy. I have two voiceclaims, one for an “in game” “voice”, which is a trumpet put through a vocoder, like this: (https://youtube.com/shorts/-BQ1oTFF-wA?si=gZvL9QFxCTBUnvIw) and their “real” voice, Us from baldurs gate 3.
Anyway this is really long and I’m getting tired af, good night and 🎉happy early birthday to meeee🎉

Got sent your way by @recoiloperated. Looking at getting a sword for renfaire, do you have any suggestions of where to look that's not super expensive but also not cheap stainless steel?
Oops, just answered this as a rb of your original question to @recoiloperated:
Apologies in advance for subjecting you to my long-windedness. Best of luck!

DarkSword Miniatures Dragonkin Sorcerer, because not all lizard people are male. I'm always looking for different pieces for my scaly horde and I'm not confining my search to just GW's works. Dark Sword Miniatures have a great number of really intersting and finely sculpted pieces. My one problem with this mini though is that the metal staff is really soft and thin and I'm concerned that it will eventually break off just above the hand. Otherwise I'm really happy with this cheeky babe. :)

Aegon II, The Reluctant King
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Thrones are won with swords, not quills. Spill blood, not ink."
The ostensible head of the green faction, although about 10th in the real pecking order. As with all the show characters, I was blown away by how much depth they added. It would have been so easy to make him a Joffrey type character, cackling gleefully about taking his half-sisters birthright, but instead they made him this monumentally mediocre washout who has to be dragged kicking and screaming to the throne, only to find a trace of the approval he always wanted.
The miniature is a Viserys (Dany's brother) - who I felt was about right in the mix of imperious sneer and pathetic wet rat energy. I went back and forth with the greens a lot on whether to give them their book accurate colour scheme or lean into the whole green scheme. I went with the latter, largely because this series doesn't have that much green and it can be a lovely colour to paint with. I adore this dragon scale style armour, I'm very happy with the big emerald clasp and the pops of gold, I was happy to give the Conqueror's crown back its rubies, and most of all I love how scraggly his hair looks. I wanted to capture Tom Glynn-Carney's excellent bags under the eyes look, but thats sort of melded with the purple pupils, and I definitely could have made his cloak pop a bit more.

in order of creation from oldest to newest:
Dragonia Infierna, wizard and probably the closest I have to a “canon” Tav so far (she/her)
Tumblr media
Kovu Stormbreaker, ranger/soon to be monk (he’s the one getting redone, simply because I really don’t want him to be a durge oc) (he/him)
Tumblr media
Hesperia Darksword, Oath of Vengeance paladin (she/her)
Tumblr media
Othello Zayn, barbarian durge (he/him)
Tumblr media
Melodia Silvertooth, bard (they/them)

top 5 souls weapons!!
This list is gonna be heavily slanted toward Dex and casters <3 These are my favorites, not a thoughtful list of the best for anything.
Balder Side Sword - simple, classic, can carry you allllll the way. Has a gloriously long lunge to go with its sweeping attacks. Get you a Dex sword that can do it all. I picked up several while trying to get all the Balder armor and enchanted them all for different uses.
Nightrider Flail - Jingle jingle! It's a flail with three heads! You'll put your eye out! This is a completely absurd weapon. Also, it may be the only way my Tarnished has to crack heavy armor. I like it a lot for being a bludgeoning AND bleeding weapon, and for having an extremely satisfying overhead slam.
Black Knight Halberd - Legitimately my favorite moveset in DS1. <3 High requirements, but it's so worth it for the reach and power. Beats the graceful Silver Knight Spear by a hair.
Lizard Staff - IT IS A STAFF WITH A DRIED LIZARD ON IT. The lizard doesn't do anything. It cracks me up. I love it. Alas, I did not manage to get one for my hexer. DS2, you are so silly sometimes.
Darksword - on the list for aesthetics as well as my affection for Darkwraiths. This one isn't a Dex weapon, but shh.
Honorable mention to the Blades of Mercy, for their elegant design alone.
