I was able to pick up the new babies a couple days early. Their names are from a book The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents. Dangerous Beans is the brown dumbo, Sardines is the silver one, and Darktan is the black one. They are tiny balls of energy zipping around everywhere. I think Sardines is going to be easily trained for camera work. I'm excited for an outgoing rat.

oh???? MAURICE MY BELOVED?

I'm rather excited about this because Maurice is one of those Discworld books that has always felt cinematic to me, so I've actually pondered animation styles and plot/character streamlining decisions that could work for the change of medium. I do like this style overall, though I'm not too fond of the look of Maurice himself. (Not convinced by Emilia Clarke as Malicia either, at least so far.)

But the rats are making me very happy! I love the variety in their looks (Dangerous Beans is wearing a sock!! 😭 Sardines has gone the Mistoffelees design route for showing off his tap-dancing act!) and I feel like we're going to get some personality and variety in the background rats too, which is nice. Multiple background blorbos to watch! 👀

I think they may have combined Hamnpork and Darktan into one rat (or rather, removed Hamnpork)? Which would be a shame, but I suppose would help to simplify things.

(But... people... it's pronounced Morris, not Mo-rees.)

just remembered they made a terrible movie adaptation of the amazing maurice and his educated rodents & I went and looked up the wikipedia summary & they got rid of hamnpork and made it so darktan was the leader the whole time. does his character arc mean nothing to you people. the disrespect the desecration.....

Been thinking about Terry Pratchett's Reaper Man from the Discworld series and just.

Knives starting out as Gunsmoke's/humanity's anthropomorphic personification of Death for the humans, except as the type of Death that would wear a crown.

(Zazie the Beast/the Worms having their own Death, before the humans showed up, and even afterwards. Like the Bone Rat, and the Clan of changeling rats from The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents. Wondering if the Worms would also have an afterlife that would be underground. Or maybe in the sky, given the whole "Worm storm" things that the Worms seem to use to reproduce?

Side note: And now I'm wondering when the Worms started noticing the darkness behind the eyes, and how much they'd had a concept of "me" or "us". How old is Zazie the Beast, really? How much did having a human body as a conduit really change/help them? Could the Worms of traveled to the stars or had their own cities, given enough time alone?

Wondering if they'd ever have a moment where they looked at humanity like Darktan did in that barn, looking down at those humans and their terriers, holding a lit match.)

Wolfwood fighting Knives for or just somehow gaining without even really meaning to, the position of Gunsmoke's/humanity's anthropomorphic personification of Death, but without the crown.

Speaking of harvests, and anthropomorphic personifications: Vash as humanity's small god of Love and Peace. And maybe Hope, too.

Would've loved to of gone with anthropomorphic personification, and maybe Vash could eventually be that, but I feel like small god might fit him better? Or maybe something like Susan Sto Helit- not exactly human, but still mostly mortal.

The small god thing is more to reflect how Vash is a kind, compassionate, and merciful pacifist, but how that's not exactly something everybody knows. Because "everybody knows" that Vash is a walking natural disaster, etc.

Also maybe Vash as the Death of Plants? Tho a kind one. Or just... someone who could open that door for them, to make sure they're not alone? Like how witches will do for people, sometimes.

(I wonder if being a witch might fit Vash better? I know, I know, in terms of archetypes, Vash is modeled after the classic wandering gunslinger, with his own twists, but it's still fun to think about.)

When I saw that they had taken the rats out of the title and there were barely any rats in the trailer, I didn't go see the movie. Without the rats, what would be the point? But now I've seen it and there are rats! Not as often as I'd like to, but the rat scenes we get are great, especially when we get the leader-organizer-fighter-grump Darktan!
