Jacksonville Shooter Is Identified: 21 Year Old Ryan Christopher Palmeter
Authorities on Sunday named the white gunman who fatally shot three Black people in a race-motivated attack in Jacksonville, Florida, as Ryan Palmeter, 21.
According to police, video shows Palmeter entering a Dollar General parking lot Saturday afternoon and killing a woman in her car before he enters the store and kills two other people. Officials believe the gunman died by suicide as police entered the store.
Officials also said Sunday that Palmeter was encountered at Edward Waters University, a historically Black college in Jacksonville, before the shooting. A campus security officer engaged with Palmeter, who refused to identify himself and then left the campus minutes before the shooting.
Palmeter, who wore a tactical vest and was armed with an AR-style rifle and a Glock handgun decorated with swastikas, according to authorities, had left messages for his parents, the media and federal law enforcement officials detailing racial hatred.
“This was, quite frankly, a maniac who decided he wanted to take lives,” Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters said. “He targeted a certain group of people, and that’s Black people. That’s what he said he wanted to kill. And that’s very clear.”
The victims were identified as Angela Michelle Carr, 52; Jerrald Gallion, 29; and Anolt Joseph “AJ” Laguerre Jr., 19.
Sabrina Rozier, a relative of Gallion, described him as a fun, loving young man. He left behind a 4-year-old daughter.
Laguerre was an employee at the Dollar General store, the company said in a statement, adding it was sending its condolences to his family and loved ones of the two customers who were killed in the “senseless violence.”
“There is no place for hate at Dollar General or in the communities we serve,” the company said. “Right now, we are focused on providing support, counseling and resources to our teams and their loved ones, and we are evaluating how we can best support and stand with the greater Jacksonville community during this sad and difficult time.” -(source: nbc news/cnn)

do you think louis & claudia’s relationship is supposed to be read as romantic/sexual in iwtv? i’ve seen some debate on it
Well, I am, as I so often do, going to bring up the VC Issue Piles. Pile #1 is for conflicts and character flaws that mesh with the story (non-con turning = rape, Louis' hypocrisy, Lestat pretty clearly having a personality disorder, etc). These usually seem intentional on the author's part or are at least consistent subtext. Pile #2 is for things that are absolutely wild, ridiculously OOC/jarring in the story, and clearly just Anne having Anne problems (pretty much all of TotBT falls under this category, as does Louis' post-trilogy characterization).
As such, I definitely categorize the pedophilic and incestuous undertones in Louis and Claudia's relationship to be in Pile #2. We know that Louis and Claudia are representative of Anne Rice and her daughter Michelle, and for all the bad things I have to say about AR, I don't think she was, like, molesting her children. What I do think is that a) she was trying to emphasize the non-traditionality of "vampire love" in order to downplay the homoeroticism of the book and b) that she was a very mentally ill person with a lot of unprocessed trauma.
I don't want to speculate in detail on her potential history, but I do think the insane repetition of rape and incest in VC (and her other books) is extremely telling. The constant attempts to justify these things even more so. This dynamic is all over the place, but it comes up again with Lestat (her self insert) and David (a representation of her own father), Marius and Armand (a child and father figure), and Lestat and Gabrielle, just to name a few examples.
With all of that in mind, I think the way AR wrote Louis and Claudia came from a place of (in her mind) necessity and probably personal unresolved trauma. As far as these rape/incest themes go, Louis and Claudia's dynamic is fairly tame. In my opinion, it's clear that Claudia's romantic feelings for Louis are not reciprocated (the weird descriptions of her notwithstanding, clearly this woman struggles to write appropriate parent/child relationships in general) and Louis directly denies that Claudia is his lover when asked by Armand. Claudia is pretty explicit in her feelings for Louis, but as I mentioned before, that goes in Pile #2.
Essentially, my view is that in a good-faith reading of Louis and Claudia, the relationship is not romantic/sexual, nor is it truly meant to be. It's just a genuine parent/child dynamic written by a very unwell person who I literally don't think was capable of understanding what that looks like. The fact that the relationship was based on AR and her own child reinforces that for me. Louis and Claudia's relationship, especially Louis' paternal love for her, is one of my favorite parts of the books because of that deeply personal element. It rings so true and the grief of child loss is incredibly real and visceral. Obviously, there are very valid reasons for wondering about the dynamic, but considering all of the above, I don't see it that way.

Wait AR hated Louis?? Isn’t he based on her husband or something girl help (idk much about them) 😭😭
I'm so sorry to have to be the one to break this to you but yes, Louis in IWTV is based on her, however Lestat in TVL is also based on her.
When AR wrote IWTV it was after her 5 year old daughter died from leukemia, she was incredibly depressed and that impacts the whole atmosphere of the book. Then it was published and she became a successful writer. She began to change as a person, as her grief died away due to time, and also as she became successful she became more confident. So the Lestat in TVL is also AR. After that point AR only identifies with Lestat. And one of the main themes to Lestat that she discusses again and again in her books is that "you just have to push through hard times". She starts to see being depressed as a moral failing, literally. In the original draft of IWTV for example, Armand was going to show Louis an ethical way of drinking blood, to drink from those who want to die, and the scene involved a mother who had lost her child that Armand brings Louis to in order to drink from (projection much AR?). However in Merrick when Louis commits suicide after being basically SAed and the ghost of Claudia says she never loved him, just chose him over Lestat because he was easier to manipulate, Louis also attempts suicide, and after Lestat brings him back, he calls Louis weak. Calling Louis passive and dependent also becomes a theme in 90s canon. So I feel like her hatred of Louis is a manifestation of hatred for that time in her life when AR lost her daughter, and while I don't want to judge her grief, seeing grief as a weakness feels unfair to Michelle's memory.
I honestly think AR needed therapy BAD. "The Vampire Companion" is a horrible book that goes over the themes and lore behind VC and it was written by this woman my friends and I call Kathy (derogatory) and AR and in the beginning AR says that she doesn't purposefully put themes in her work, she just lets her "subconscious" take the wheel, which... YIKES. Later today I'll try and upload pics from the Louis entry of that book, which was written in the 90s, and you can see how much AR started to hate Louis, especially when you compare the Lestat entry, which seems to only be able to praise Lestat when unfavorable comparing him to Louis. (My knowledge of what was in the og drafts of IWTV comes from here and is honestly the best, and potentially only good thing about that book, I've been meaning to make a post compiling all that info for a while)

Michelle is up at 5 in the morning baking bread. His friend and pseudo-adopted daughter, Ariel, has a fencing match today and he wanted to make her a snack.
He fills some of the croissants with chocolate and some with raspberry cream.
“Son, you’re up early? Are those croissants?”, his mother perks up from where she was at the door.
She tries to take one but he snatched the tray away. He waves his finger at her in a light hearted manner.
“Mama, no! This is for your granddaughter. She has a match today.”, he chastised.
“Awe.. I want to make her something too. Mind if I help?”, his mama said.
“You’re help is a blessing in the kitchen mama.”, he said.
They spend the next hour making a entire meal and then some for their most precious member of the family.
“Be honest, if she was my sister she’d be your favorite. I mean, she’d be my favorite too if she was.”, joked Michelle.
“Oh sweet tart, I could never take her a way from you. She’s your kid, you claimed her.”, said his mama.
“Nina would argue that she saw her first.”, said Michelle.
“Then we’d have a duel on our hands.”, his mama lifts up a controller.
“That reminds me, tell papa that I need to borrow the motor bike tomorrow. I have a few commissions that live on the other side of the city.”, he said.
“Sure thing, my sweet tart.”, his mama said.

Michelle arrives to school on time as usual. He walks up stairs, but halfway up he bumps into the guy that’s getting on his nerves more than Cecile ever did, Loyde.
“Hey careful!”, said Michelle.
“Oh, I’m so sorry! I didn’t see there, you just look so natural in the background; but I’m not saying you look plain or anything! Really!”, said Loyde.
Michelle huffed and gave a half glare. Loyde sneers at him. Michelle walks a way with Loyde still sneering he may have also looked at his butt. Loyde may have height, but he doesn’t look terrifying when he’s angry or hot.
Michelle looks for his daughter and finds her talking to Nina. Ariel notices him then and quickly ends her conversation.
The seating arrangements changed some time ago. Ariel now sits in the middle with Rain. Michelle sits across from them and next to Julien.

“Michy! Is that for me? Are you coming to my match?”, asked Ariel as she jumps in excitement.
“Yes to everything.”, said Michelle.

Later that day, Ariel and Michelle are in the school courtyard. Michelle sits on a bench as he watches Ariel practices her forms.
He joined by Kage, a new friend and a member of the fencing team. Kage has confessed to both Michelle and Ariel and has been rejected by both at the same time.
Kage holds Michelle’s hand without a word. Michelle glances at their hands for a moment. Kage has a light blush.
“Are you ready?”, asked Michelle.
“Yes, I will win… May I have a good luck kiss?”, asked Kage.
“No, but you can have a pat on the shoulder.”, said Michelle.
Kage casually accepts and goes to correct Ariel’s form. Michelle still has a subtle, warm tingle on his hand. He resists the urge to touch his hand.
Kage and Ariel pretend they don’t see him smile into his other hand. Ariel goes through the motions with Kage. Michelle is no longer paying attention.
“I’m saying it now, the answers no.”, muttered Ariel.
“You don’t know that.”, Kage changes her stance.
“You know he’s afraid.”, said Ariel.
“I will conquer that fear.”, said Kage.
“Just like you’ll conquer him?”, accuses Ariel.
“Ari, please don’t misunderstand. He is not an object to me. It’s not a game for me to win, you know I take everything seriously.”, said Kage.
“Chances are, you’ll be my brother.”, said Ariel.
“If it is so, I will accept, but as it is now… I have an odd. The odds are not big, but it is there.”, said Kage.
“We will see then.”, said Ariel.
They finish their warm ups and the matches begin. They sit next to Michelle when it’s not their turn.

Kage and Ariel comment and take notes as Michelle listens in between them. Then it’s Kage’s turn, Michelle and Ariel giggle and point out things they’ve noticed. They share snacks.

Ariel’s turn comes and Kage takes his place next to Michelle. Ariel puts all her focus on her opponent.
Kage entwines his pinkie with Michelle’s. Then they exchange glances. Michelle turns a light red.
In the silence, Michelle leaned his head closer to Kage’s shoulder. Kage makes a quiet swallow.
“Ariel’s gotten much better.”, whispered Michelle.
“She trained diligently, it was no surprise.”, said Kage.
Michelle hummed as he caressed Kage’s hand with his thumb, their pinkies still locked.
“Kage…”, Michelle trailed off.
Kage braces himself, no hint of nervousness only acceptance.
“No flirting, courtship is saved for after all matches are over!”, interrupted a teacher.
Michelle’s lips begin to form a smug smile as he moves closer to Kage. His hand slipping to touch Kage’s cheek.
“Oh, like this?”, chirps Michelle mischievously.
A nearby student takes a dry spit in an attempt to stop them from bursting into a laugh. Another student did laugh and collapsed to the ground.
Ariel finished her match unaware of what led to her dad openly cuddling Kage, but the chaos it caused bring her joy.
“Well, now that we’re done- I won by the way- let’s get ice cream and pizza!”, exclaimed Ariel.
“But I made you lunch…..”, said Michelle.
“I never said I wasn’t going to eat it with the ice cream and pizza.”, reassured Ariel.
“Fine, but only if you can eat it all.”, said Michelle.

She could not eat it all. Kage and Michelle had to eat what she couldn’t.

Jamie Lee Curtis As An Administrative Psychopath / Kindhearted Queer A.I? Yes, Please.

A crazed auditor winning awards for said auditing, who regularly downs dubious-looking calcium drinks. A psychopath with an expertise in wrenching out common office supplies and turning them into deadly weapons in 0.2 seconds. A partner to Evelyn Wang (Michelle Yeoh) in a lifetime, with sweetness in her face and hot dogs as fingers. Also kind-hearted, when she, as the auditor, taps into benevolence, giving Evelyn and her family another chance at extricating themselves from debt.
This is Deirdre Beaubeirdre (Jamie Lee Curtis) and she exists, well, because she does. The question for all of the characters in Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022) is where they exist; each moment in their lives, as Waymond Wang (Ke Huy Quan) tells Evelyn, his wife, determines the direction of their next moment, and so on. While Evelyn discovers the shocks and delights of dereistic living, and ramifications of these versified moments, vis-a-vis a form of AR that doesn’t quite look like anything we have created yet, Deirdre is introduced as a character who has been living in this variegated state for some time. Multimodality is how she canters through living.
The film, firmedly Sci-Fi, also a family drama, and ultimately, an individual existential crisis story, centralizes on concepts of personhood in a continuous loop of what-if scenarios. Sure, films have done this before (Sliding Doors made a small, albeit significant, cultural splash in the 90s) and, by creative extension, there are films that delve into multiple worlds creepily and seamlessly (Jordan Peele is a master, ahem, Get Out, Us), but Everything Everywhere All At Once does something different by combining a searing mother-daughter pathos with the extraordinary — truly, extra ordinary — world of re-making world that magnifies the shifting priorities that come when we shuffle around our cognizant leanings into life.
Evelyn, for all of her adaptations, remains basically the same persona throughout the film, which appears to be one of its lessons: even through cataclysmic anachronisms, one pretty much is who one is. Then, the film throws a wrench in this theory, because Deirdre is a complete shape-shifter in her elemental realities. We see her lovingly at home with Evelyn, embracing, evocative of the picture perfect domesticity of Revolutionary Road. We experience Deirdre with flowing contempt and abject boredom, an image of authentic The Office caricature, as she first meets with Evelyn and Waymond. There is also Deirdre who seems to want Evelyn dead, so another theory creeps up. The same way it is possible that our past experiences can fortify us in facing current ones, are any of our sour grape moments just so damn sour that they lurk beneath the surface, waiting for their memoir to be triggered?
With all the deserved kudos for Yeoh, who is phenomenal and anchors the film in her worried, spastic, time journeying as Evelyn, Curtis’s role as Deirdre stands out due to its plethoric switch in body temperature, and her precision in each of these states. She embodies the wily, unhinged, maximalist potentials of AI, integrated into life scene-shifting so fully that the metaverse seems like a baby step compared to what — and who — Deirdre lives through. Even suggesting the film’s conceptual mise-en-scène could be a multiverse is short-changed. What Deirdre shows us in Everything Everywhere All At Once are the emotional potentials of physically reinstantiating ourselves to wreck an unimaginable havoc and support an equally unimaginable healing.

Blog-Wide Alternate Universes Explained
Arborless Verse
In this verse, Michael and Larry don’t exist. Pete has more or less taken over the town, though he is not the mayor. He intends on working from the sidelines to make the town in his image, as well as control its citizens. Firkle is his main lover and husband, though he has kids with several other people. He has a very strict ‘it is okay for me, but not for ye’ policy, and expects them to be stringently loyal to him and only him. However, if he is involved and more than one of them want to try something, he’s always willing to have multiple partners at once. Allison is one of his main enforcers, and has never once failed him. She and Firkle are indispensable when he needs something done about someone that stepped out of line. He keeps a tight hold on what his Correction Squad are allowed to do, including but not limited to not allowing them to date/hook up with anyone (aside from him if they so choose), or having hobbies. To him, everyone is a thing that he owns, and he doesn’t care to change that. He often forgets his children’s names, because there are quite a few of them, much less remembering the names of their friends and lovers. He dislikes Payne, his son Ares’ boyfriend, for a variety of reasons but mostly because he got his son knocked up at fifteen.
Mindless Verse
The universe that Jace, Jonah, Michelle, and Malia are from. Jace is the Stick of Truth/Fractured But Whole New Kid, while Jonah is the Phone Destroyer New Kid. Michelle and Malia are this verse’s Firkle and Michael’s daughters, twins that Firkle hid from Michael. He ran away when he found out he was pregnant, and only returned once Jace had been dragged to the Regular Verse. Jonah and Jace had a long history of Jonah beating on him and Jace just taking it. The final straw that made Jace hate him was a night when he was sleeping in an abandoned building and Jonah set it on fire. Jonah managed to save Jace, but didn’t know about the stray cat that Jace had been tending to in that house, and it died. Jace hasn’t forgiven him, and doesn’t really plan on it. The fact that Jace is so mad at him makes Jonah feel even more malice towards him, and he intends on killing the villain, any means necessary.
Warlord Verse
This universe notably has a war between the Vampire Society and the Netherborns. Alex is the mayor, plays hero to the people, but is ruthless behind the scenes. The war has prompted Mike and his ilk to breed with Ike in order to make half-vampire, half-Canadian Super Soldiers. Leslie, Vernon, Draven, Arlo, Key, Kal, Deya, Aran, Giselle, Lowell, Tems, Ris, Ryder, Varjo, Mags, Vynny, Serana, Luca, Luci, Priya, and Tino are from this verse.

Peter
• Son of Athena
• Richard Parker did a research with Athena posing as a mortal scientist
• During one of their of conversations Richard mentions that he and his wife have problems conceiving
• Athena decides to have literally and figuratively brain child with Richard Parker and telling him about her being a Greek God
• Richard and Mary were ecstatic to have Peter, Mary loved Peter like her own
• The plane they were travelling in crashed because Zeus had a bad fight Hera and decided to take his anger out on the passing airplane
• Athena was absolutely furious when she found out
• "Father, you can't take out your anger on innocent mortals no matter how furious you are at Hera"
• "You never cared before, why the sudden interest"
• "Amongst the people who died because of your temper tantrum were the parents of my demigod child"
• Richard had told Ben and May about Peter's heritage
• They decided to not tell Peter until he's 14
• Luckily, Peter never encountered any monster
• Peter was angry at them for not telling him earlier
• When he went to Camp Half Blood expecting to know no one, but he was met with 4 familiar face
• First was the senior from midtown who apparently was his half sister
• Second was Betty on whom Ned had a really big crush on
• "Wait I know you, aren't you Peter Parker, you are also a freshman at midtown"
• "Yes, um what are you doing in Med Bay are you hurt or something"
• (Peter is super awkward can someone please rescue him)
• "Oh I'm a daughter of apollo, so my siblings and I take turns being in Med Bay helping tend to wounds"
• Suddenly a hurt camper is brought in and Betty rushes to help
• Peter thanked the Gods cause he couldn't handle any more awkwardness
• Third was Michelle who likes call Peter and Ned losers but would still sit on opposite end of their table
• "Sup, loser"
• Peter was honest to Gods scared to death cause Michelle sneaked upto him
• "Michelle what are you doing here?"
• "I'm a daughter of Ares I didn't know you were a demigod too"
• "Yeah my uncle and Aunt told me just before summer vacation"
• "So which Cabin are you from?"
• "Athena"
• "So what do you think of Camp?"
• "It's nice and looks like every person I know is here"
• "So you already ran into Betty and Flash anyway I need to go"
• Peter pales at the mention of Flash
• Flash always has been the a**hole friend to Peter and Ned until last year when he started Bullying him
• Peter manages to avoid Flash for 2 days until there cabins team up for capture the flag and due to Parker Luck he was assigned with Flash at the post
• Peter being the awkward boy he is decided to break the ice
• "So... Your Mom's Aphrodite?"
• "No, my Dad is"
• Peter is very confused at statement
• Detecting Peter's confusion Flash explains
• "Gods can change their gender if they wish to"
• Long painfully awkward silence follows
• They both came to unspoken agreement after that to avoid each other as much as they can
• Peter meets Harley when he went to armoury to get a weapon and Harley helped him
• In the end Peter chose a dagger that changes into a bracelet
• Peter developed a huge crush on Harley and would stay in forges for hours and talk to him
• He got to know Harley was a year older than Peter, this was his 4th summer at Camp, he's from Tennessee, his mother doesn't know that his father was a God and that she thinks that he's staying a friend's while he comes here
• Peter was gonna confess to Harley at the end of Summer but was scared and ended up not confessing at all
• Soon after getting back from Camp, Peter gets bitten by the radioactive spider
• Peter thought it was kinda funny cause his mother had created spider and each of her children including him were scared shitless of spider and he ends up having spider powers
• When Ben died, Peter blamed himself cause even after being a demigod with spider powers he couldn't save him
• Peter decided he won't go to Camp and started patrolling as spiderman

Most GrandDuggars (57%) are born at a hospital, but there have been 9 Home Births by 2 Mothers (Anna and Jessa)—and, strangely enough, most of them (5 of 9) occurred at the exact same house. There were an additional 2 Attempted Home Births (Jill w/ Izzy and Joy w/ Gideon), which ended in Hospital Births by C–Section. Speaking of C–Sections... 3 GrandDuggars (14%) have been born by Cesarean, so far—Israel Dillard, Sam Dillard, and Gideon Forsyth.
Geographically, GrandDuggars aren’t diverse, at all... All but two (90.4%) were born in Arkansas, and only one Duggar Daughter or DIL (Jinger) has given birth outside the Natural State. (But, she actually did it twice, in 2 Different States—Texas w/ Felicity, and California w/ Evangeline.) As for the Arkansas Deliveries, they have occurred, so far, in at least in 3 Counties and 7 Cities. Adding to this the 2 States, Counties, and Cities where Jinger has delivered... GrandDuggars have been born in 3 States, 5 Counties, and 9 Cities. Here’s the list—
12 (57%) in Washington County, AR—9 in Fayetteville, 2 in Johnson, and 1 in Tontitown
5 (23.8%) in Benton County, AR—2 in Rogers, 2 in Siloam Springs, and 1 in Bentonville

Close Encounters of a Duggar Kind
I worked at an Arkansas Sam's Club. I ran into the female members of the Duggar family often. (Because grocery shopping is women's work, I guess? Also cause there's no shot they could afford not to shop in bulk?)
I have lived in AR my whole life, but I'm not a reality show fan so I had no idea what they looked like and had only vaguely heard of them at all.
The first time I saw the Duggar women, I saw one of the older girls outside the bathrooms and Michelle if I remember correctly (this would have been in 2012 or 2013).
I walked right up to the daughter and I said, "Excuse me miss, I have a rule that if you think something nice about someone you should tell them, so I just wanted to tell you that you have really beautiful hair." The daughter seemed surprised I'd even talked to her at all, and then seemed very flattered.
I am a cancer survivor, at the time my hair was still very short.
Someone in their group replied to me with something like "yours could be too if you grow it out." or "why don't you grow yours?" and I thought that was pretty rude, but I was at work in my work clothes so I said, "I'm working on growing it, unfortunately cancer and the treatment made me go bald."
It definitely got awkward from there.
I broke the silence with, "Thanks for talking with me, and I hope you have a great day."
They replied with something like "We will pray to God that your future is full of blessings"
I'd started to leave at that point. I turned back around to face the group (which I noticed had increased by several similarly dressed girls), and said, "I don't personally believe in God but I appreciate the sentiment." a genuine smile, and then I left. (This was only supposed to be a bathroom break for me after all, still on the clock and such.)
One of my team members looked at me quizzically when I returned to my place in the cafe area, and I said "That girl has really beautiful hair and I thought it would be nice to tell her I thought so." to which my coworker replied "Yeah, all the Duggars do."
I was like "What!?!"
This is the story of how a pixie haired, pants wearing, LGBTQIA+ card holding, liberal 18 year old girl accidently looked Michelle Duggar in the face, in front of SEVERAL daughters, in the middle of a Sam's Club straight up said "I don't believe in God..."
Arkansas is a wild place. I have absolutely zero doubt that if the authorities tug on the Josh Duggar thread enough we will see local government seats come open rapidly. Possibly even a Senate seat.
