You know when you reach a scene with one of these two that you're about to see an absolute masterclass in acting, EVERY SINGLE TIME.

for fuck's sake the reason harry isn't doing much promo for my policeman isn't because he's a queerbaiter or whatever but because the one time he did speak about the movie he said something so profoundly gay and hashtag relatable about hiding your identity and sexuality and the yearning that comes along with it that everyone was confused how this 'straight' man knew so much about being gay

"Then he took my fingers from his lips and, pressing them against his groin, he asked, “Can you share?” “Share?” “Can you share me?” I felt him harden, and I nodded. “If that’s what it takes. Yes. I can share.” And then I was on my knees before him."

And another thing! Tom putting his finger in Patrick’s mouth like he’s discovered this wondrous thing and he must explore it with something other than his own lips? Like…
What’s this? A mouth I want to know? Lips I’m not sure are real? I must be dreaming. This mouth? This man?

Thoughts on the My Policeman press conference:
The entire way that it was organised and carried out was extremely professional and very well put together. Anita Lee is a great interviewer, the questions she asked and the way she followed up on everything was very refreshing to see, she very clearly knows what she is doing and is extremely good at what she does as well.
It was also lovely seeing everyone getting equal attention and the questions being solely about the movie and nothing baseless as such. The attention was on every cast member and not just one person.
Michael Grandage cares about his cast a lot, if it wasn’t clear from the interviews, it was made very clear throughout the press conference. He looked very proud of every cast member and was watching them with so much love and respect, it was beautiful to witness.
Each of the cast is very enthusiastic about the movie and clearly very connected with the characters that they were elected to play. They all seemed very passionate about the movie itself as well as the meaning of the plot and the message overall.
The cast is all quite close to one another, or so it seems. They were very on tune with each other and were paying attention to each other as well as affirming to each other’s points, respectfully adding on to it after the other has finished and over all were very supportive when one or the other seemed to get a bit flustered and too into it. We saw it when David and Emma kept reassuring Harry’s points because he seemed a little nervous when he got too vulnerable about his experience and his attachment and relatability towards his character.
David Dawson is very charming and a very beautiful person in general. He was extremely eloquent with his words and his phrasing. He seemed very well spoken yet very subdued with everything. He seems like a quiet and gentle soul. It was lovely hearing him speak about Patrick’s character with so much love. One of the quotes:
"The difference between he and Tom is he sees a lot of himself in him when he was a young man. He wants to help him to be as wonderful as possible."
Emma is an extremely intelligent person, and very intune with their surroundings. The way they described Marion’s character with so much empathy yet still understanding why she did what she did was very impressive. Some of the quotes:
"For Marion I think... It's about accepting that she is the product of a society that is the way she thinks."
"So much to do has to do with the fact that she was wrong."
Linus Roache has such a warm presence truly. He answered every question with a smile and had the most loveliest things to say about every person that was part of the movie. Rupert Everett was also extremely well attached to his character. He is a good listener, I must say this. He had a very calming energy about him. Gina McKee, I might fangirl a bit here because her voice, I am quite obsessed. She is extremely eloquent, that is an understatement. She speaks very well, a great public speaker with a very rare usage of filler words. She is very well researched and informed as well. A gem if I’m being quite honest.
Michael Grandage has to be one of the most patient and involved directors that I have seen in a while. He is very attached to his works and he cares about everyone that is part of the film. He was watching the entire cast quietly and looked very proud of every single one of them. If they looked towards him, he would smile and encourage them to go on. A lovely person.
Harry, my shy darling. He was very happy to be there. This is clearly a passion project for him. Something he very intimately cares about. He got extremely vulnerable at points and then tried to brush it off with “i don’t know” and all of that but would get a lot more confident when he got reassurance from his colleagues- specifically Emma, David and Michael. You could tell that he put a lot of time and hard work into playing his character in the most authentic way possible. He has a very good grasp on every character, added to questions asked about other characters as well. He loves this movie and book very dearly.
“With Marion he also finds ultimately a friend who is the most accepting of him and I think that’s why, regardless of whichever way you think on his relationship, I think their friendship is incredibly real and loving and tender."
“Tom’s love for Marion is really real and Tom’s love for Patrick is very real, partly of why it’s so painful in the story is Marion and Patrick are actually very good friends & there’s a very real love there as well.”
“Having that kind of duality of everything not being so black and white in terms of, ‘you’ve wronged me and now I don’t like you anymore’ and all of that, it’s not really how the world works and how human beings work."
“If we were just braver, we wasted so much time.”
"Every piece of joy even though it’s really real is laced with this other side of it."
"I think Tom’s version of acceptance is a pretty depressing one. I think he accepts that he's going to deny this part of himself for a really long time, its like a quiet acceptance between him and Marion that it just won’t be discussed."
"I think Tom is very curious which— I think he's someone who is born into a very small world and if you’re born into that kind of environment it's hard to feel like you know where the edge of the world is."
"Whether it's Marion who’s kind of like acceptance and going along with things reluctantly, and all the different more deceitful parts of the characters, there's just a very human aspect to all of them."
"I think at different parts of the story you’re able to see bits of yourself, and sometimes maybe not your favourite orite parts of yourself, in different characters."
"I think the most beautiful thing about the story is that all of the characters have some really nice qualities and they also have some flaws that we might hope not to have, but as humans we all have them."
"I think the themes of love and freedom are incredibly relevant no matter the time you set it as. For me the big draw, I think, is that people are able to see themselves in each off the characters.”
“The nicest thing about our 3 characters is kinda going what Emma said, despite all the complexity & the kind of deceiving nature of a lot of aspects of the triangle between them is also just a lot of real friendship”
“The whole story is about wasted time. I think wasted time is the most devastating thing, because it’s the only thing we can’t control, the one thing that we can’t have back, the one thing that really matters no matter what kind of life you live.”
"I think there's so much nuance to them and so much complexity that comes to people in real life around sexuality and finding themself, all of that kind of stuff."
“At the end, you think back on time with people you love, and the time you spent— I mean, I’m assuming, I haven’t been, when I’ve died, but you get what I’m saying."
Harry was very emotional at points and he seemed to catch himself, realising that he is talking about his character and not himself, blurring the lines often unintentionally.
I’m not trying to be shady, or am I? From the two films press that I’ve seen, Harry was much more serious with MP than he was with DWD. With DWD it seemed as though he was there for the fun of it and with this one you could tell that he really wanted to be there and had things to add and talk about. He knew what this film was about and he was very involved with everything and everyone.
The entire press conference was very enlightening and it actually kept me interested throughout. I loved it, simply put. It was very informative about the movie, cast, characters and everything else. It built more anticipation and excitement.
I might add on to it later since I’m quite tired at the moment and probably missed a lot of points, I’ll edit it out tomorrow and make it better.
