Heyho,
I know I don't have an audience. But maybe it reaches anyone. Could you reblog this with your favourite staged gif?
But like not the ones we've all seen thousands of times.
I can't find the gif but mine's "ladies and gentlemen; fuck the elephants"

Croydon 2023: the Penn Report, dog attacks and those giraffes
Spectacularly useless: how Private Eye gave extra prominence to the scandals in Croydon earlier this year, including highlighting the delay with publication of the Penn Report THE YEAR IN REVIEW Part 2 – May to August If there was one good thing to come out of Croydon Council this year, then it must have been the Penn Report. Katherine Kerswell, the council’s chief executive, had held on to the…

The F1 George Medal -David Charles Purley GM 1945-85
At the 1973 Grand Prix David Purley abandoned the race to go to the aid of fellow driver Roger Williamson. Although his efforts were in vain and Mr Williamson died in the blaze, David Purley was awarded the George Medals for his bravery. Mr Purley died young himself, in a plane crash in 1985.

What does 51G mean in respect to the Silverstone Crash?
After the crash on Sunday it was revealed that the impact was 51G, but what actually does that mean, well when Verstappen hit the wall at Turn 9, his peak rate of deceleration was reportedly 51 times greater than gravity in a lateral (sideways) direction, which is a deceleration rate of 500.31 m/s^2.
If we assume that his speed into the barrier was 180kph, the corner is usually taken about 285kph on entry but being conservative that speed was lost in the gravel trap (although it’s likely not to be that much.)
We can use v = u + at to calculate how long it took the tyre barrier to stop him as well as the force that pushed him into the wall.
v (final velocity) = 0
u (initial velocity) = 180kph or 50m/s
a (deceleration) = 500.31m/s^2
So working that out the time between hitting the barrier and completely stopping, this rapid deceleration happened in 0.099 seconds, Verstappen felt a weight of 3.6 tonnes pushing him into the barrier for under a tenth of a second.
51G isn’t one of the biggest crashes we’ve seen in recent years; Romain Grosjean’s crash in Bahrain last year was estimated to be 67G, and Robert Kubica had a 75G crash at the Canadian GP in 2007 and walked away, Sergio Perez had a massive 81.6G collision in Monaco 2011, his first year in F1 and had to stay in hospital for a few days and in 1977 David Purley survived an estimated 180G crash which is one of the highest g forces a person has survived.
Obviously it’s a massive collision and not one to be taken lightly, especially when it’s over 10 times the lateral g forces that drivers experience on a challenging track, but it shows how far F1 has come. The thing is with impacts in F1 it’s not necessarily the g force that causes damage but it’s the rapid deceleration of the body.
Overall it just shows how much safer F1 is nowadays if a driver can experience that sort of force and still get out of the car themselves.

Purley schoolboy who reached for the sky in Battle of Britain
SUNDAY SUPPLEMENT: The Minster archives are full of accounts of those who gave their lives in the world wars. DAVID MORGAN recounts the story of one, a fighter pilot who just might have been memorialised in a famous movie Reach for the sky: Hurricane fighter aircraft on patrol during the Battle of Britain While I was searching for information about the 80th anniversary of the Croydon Operatic and…
