au inspired by a song where LQ is a little too eager to slay the princess. he's gathering as many vessels as he needs to finally kill her when he reaches the end. the narrator becomes more and more wary of how quickly he turns to violence. you were meant to create a new and unending dawn, a world full of eternity and happiness. instead, you seek full godhood, beyond stagnancy. you wish to kill death and become her.

Judge Softly by Chrononautical
Loved it! Like how LQ will help WY get through his trauma… ❤️❤️
Quotes:
Wei Wuxian eats the loquat. Stiff and sour, it’s nothing like the warm loquats that can be bought in Caiyi town. One day soon, he’ll visit Lan Zhan to beg for ripe loquats, persimmons, and Emperor’s Smile. Maybe he’ll have money then, and can treat Lan Zhan to a meal! Or not. When Lan Zhan is near, Wei Wuxian doesn’t worry so much about money or food. Lan Zhan is so good that whenever he’s nearby everyone will be safe and no one will go hungry. So a mind can think about other things.
Someday soon—maybe when snow comes, maybe he doesn’t have to wait a full year—Wei Wuxian will return to Gusu. In the mean time, he should save the dried food for an emergency. He can catch a fish once the sun rises.
What does Wei Wuxian consider an emergency?
————
A sudden flash of white comes barrelling toward him out of the crowd. Wei Wuxian has a talisman in hand, but he holds it at the last breath, returning it to his sleeve. He hopes to be struck in the chest, but he is not. Lan Sizhui is too elegant for that.
“Senior Wei!” Extending his arms in a dignified bow, the young cultivator greets his senior with all appropriate decorum.
Relief. Sun after a month of storms. Joy. Unadulterated. Pure. Joy. Did he seem happy watching the jugglers? That was a star in the night sky. Sizhui is the dawn.
E, 32k
Summary:
Accidentally cursed, Lan Qiren is forced to live within Wei Wuxian's mind for days, experiencing his every thought and sensation. Much as he disapproves of demonic cultivation, resistant as he is to every excuse, he can't help growing to understand the young cultivator.
After leaving Lan Zhan to his important work as the Chief Cultivator, Wei Wuxian travels the world. Adventuring, righting wrongs, and developing new talismans is great fun, but what he really wants is a home.

My Inner Life: The Continuation
Chapter One
Path of Darkness, Part One
Tumblr media
(image source)
Note: This picks up right where the original fanfic ended. My Inner Life ended on a gigantic cliffhanger, unfortunately. I highly recommend reading LQ's fanfic before reading mine.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Oh, My Goddesses… You CANNOT be serious.” Zelda said as her eyes grew big as saucers. She looked to her father, her blue eyes clouded with shock and trepidation. “Father, you will not let this happen… will you?”
King Zelda’s eyes squeezed shut as soon as Link got threw explaining his plans to the king and Zelda. I watched, holding my breath, Little Link resting now in my arms after his feeding was done. Link had his muscled arms crossed over his chest, watching in clear anticipation as the king deliberated with himself.
At last, the king’s eyes opened. His eyes were dark with concern. “I think this is foolhardy.” He said slowly. “And the two of ye are too important to carry out such a foolish plan. Link, you are the “Hero of Time”, and I think ye could very well carry out this plan alone. But to take my dearest daughter Jenna with ye? Whilst she is in such a state?”
Link’s eyes were fiery with determination. He glanced at me but said nothing to me, instead turning back to the king. “Your Majesty, I know this is dangerous. But it’s our only course of action. Or do you have a better plan?”
I bit my lip. Little Link stirred a little but did not fully wake as I held him tightly in my arms. “My king, if I may? I am just as capable as Link of fighting. I fought Dark Link and won during that horrid snowstorm two winters ago.”
King Zelda’s jaw set. “I will not risk it! Jenna you are like a daughter to me! Your children are like mine own grandchildren! I could not risk losing you and your children losing their mother!”
“But you would risk losing their father?”
Zelda and Link both looked at me with wide eyes. King Zelda’s face went red as lava.
“Link can handle himself.” Said the king. “He has already defeated the greatest evil Hyrule has ever known. He could just as well do it again, and without ye.” He stood tall, lifting his chin, and glared openly at Link. “That is the end of it. Link, ye may carry this out if you wish it, but ye are not involving her.” Without another word, the king of Hyrule turned on his heel and stormed away, disappearing into a long dark corridor.
After he was gone, I felt like collapsing. The exhaustion and fear were getting to be too much for me, and now the worry for my children was added on top of that. I just wanted to go home and curl up in bed with Link and forget about all of this. But we had no home now I remembered. The jeweled tears rolled down my face before I could help them.
Zelda rushed forward, putting a comforting arm around my shoulders. She glanced at Link, Jr. in my arms and looked sympathetically into my face. “Let’s get you up to bed. Your old guest room is ready for you as always, Jen. Come along.”
She led us up into the old room I had used long ago, before I lived in Hyrule. I had barely used it back then, because I always had my wagon, but it had always been there for me to use in case I ever wanted to. It looked just as I remembered it. The window looked out into the courtyard below. The sheets on the Edwardian bed were fresh and clean, and all of the red oak furniture was polished to a sheen. Link and I thanked Zelda and bid her good night. She cast one last worried look at us before she left shutting the door behind her.
I let out a heavy sigh and crossed the room to the bed there. I would have dropped right onto the bed if I hadn’t been holding Little Link. Instead I gently lowered myself, taking care not to rouse the sleeping baby. I glanced outside. It was still very dark but now the first light of dawn was showing in the sky.
“I guess that’s it, then.” Link said. “The king says you can’t go.”
He was looking hard at me, as though he expected me to say something. But my mind was in a whirl. I could barely keep my eyes open, let alone think just then.
“I want to go with you my love, truly I do. But can we talk about this in the morning? I am so tired…” I slumped a little and Link came to join me on the bed. He wiped the remnants of my tears away with a calloused finger and kissed me gently on the cheek.
“All right, love.” He whispered. “We’ll talk about it in the morning.”
That night I had the worst nightmares I had ever experienced. The hugh creature and it’s red demonic eyes haunted me throughout the night. I woke several times in a cold sweat, and once I cried out as I sat up, panting hard. Link was quick to comfort me and our son, nestled next to Link, began to cry more than once. I felt so bad to disturb the two of them but the creature would not leave my mind.
By the time we were summoned from our bed chamber, I felt like I could have slept another twelve hours. King Zelda wanted to eat breakfast with us that morning. But he would not let us talk about the plan to infiltrate the hated Shadow Realm, no matter how hard I or Link tried.
I spent the day angry and tired. We had given up on even discussing whether or not I should go with Link into the Shadow Realm. Link watched our son for most of the day, bringing him to me only when Little Link grew hungry. I stayed in our room, either watching guards patrol the gardens or reading some books Zelda had lent me for our stay at the castle.
I begun to think about what would happen after we were done with Ariakas. We had nowhere to go at the moment. Link could rebuild the house but that would take months, and winter was fast approaching. I only hoped that the king and Zelda wouldn’t mind if we borrowed this room until next spring.
“Jenna?” I looked up. Zelda was standing in the doorway, eyes dark with apprehension. I hadn’t even heard her open the door. I put my book down. “Come in, my good friend.” I mumbled. Zelda came to sit beside me on the bed.
“I know you are still upset about what my father told you.” She said. “Father only cares for your safety, Jenna. And the safety of your children. He does not want your son to grow up orphaned and he doesn’t want you to loose your unborn child. You know this.”
I nodded and reached for her hand. We clasped fingers for a long moment, before I released her hand and folded my hands in my lap. I could not look at her, no matter how much I wanted to at the moment, if only to look into my best friend’s comforting stare. “I’m just so worried about Link…”
“Father is right, though.” Zelda said. “Link has faced far worse and he can handle himself fine.” She paused, and several heartbeats passed between us before she spoke again. “Father told me he’s going to increase security on the day Link chooses to leave. It’s to keep us all safe in case the Dark Knights attack, ostensibly. It’s actually to keep you from sneaking out. But there are ways around security.”
I looked up at her, my mouth dropping open. Was Zelda serious? She would go against her father’s word? For me?
“I don’t want you to do it, either.” She said quickly. “But if we cannot stop you… well. We cannot stop you.” A sly smile crossed her face. “Do you still have the ocarina?”
I blinked. For a long moment, I had no clue what she was talking about. And then I remembered. The Ocarina of Time! I could have slapped myself for forgetting it! And then I really did slap myself. “Goddesses… it was in the house…”
“Was it?” Zelda’s eyes twinkled. “Or does Link have it?”
I was about to ask why Link would have it when, like magic, he came into the room. Little Link was fussing in his arms and without preamble he handed the cranky toddler to me. Link looked like he was on the edge of his rope. I felt bad for him. This was all awful and even though Link was keeping a stiff upper lip for us, it had to be hard for him too.
“Link.” I shushed our son and looked imploringly to Link. “Do you have the Ocarina of Time?”
Link opened his mouth but then closed it again. He reached into his satchel, and then pulled out the silver instrument. It gleamed in his hands, the golden Triforce symbol on its shell glittering like hope.
“I always carry it with me, wherever I go.” He said, watching the way the light played off of the ocarina. “It’s an old habit. But what do you need it for?”
Zelda held out a hand and he gave it too her. She lowered her voice and began to speak. “During Link’s adventures as the “Hero of Time” he learned many magical songs. These songs can warp him to any destination he wishes.” She stopped talking for a second, her eyes narrowing. “Lord Ariakas’s whereabouts are currently unknown. But we’ve been building a strong force of our own for months now and it’s only a matter of time before he shows himself. We could capture his troops or we could have someone tail him, and find out where the entrance to his Shadow Realm is. And when that happens…”
Link had gone very pale. His eyes were wide as saucers. “We could warp to somewhere close to the entrance.” He whispered. He turned to me. “You don’t want to do this, do you my love?”
“It wasn’t my idea.” I pointed out.
“You don’t have to.” Zelda said mildly. “It is only a suggestion.” Gently she placed the ocarina into Link’s hands. She stood and smoothed out her skirts, then headed for the door.
When she was gone, Link let out a low whistle and shook his head. “Damn. Goddesses watch over the man who gets on her bad side.” He turned to me and a smile crossed his face. “Can you imagine what she’ll be like when she’s queen my love?”
“And Goddesses watch over her husband!” I laughed. I remembered that Zelda was the one to catch the bouquet at my wedding. It all seemed so long ago, now that I thought about it. And so much had changed since then. Between me and Link. Between me and King Zelda and Princess Zelda. And I myself was changed as well.
I cried a single jeweled tear and wiped it away hastily.
Link reached up to stroke my cheek. Little Link twisted his head around to look at his father and the baby smiled big and giggled. Link laughed along with him, and soon we were all laughing. It felt good, but even laughter could not keep away my worries.
