Hello! This is not Hollowed Kingdoms related, but a more personal post from the Creator (me, Winona). Things don't get personal between the top dog and the governor - not between this top dog and this governor. They never have. There has never been a reason to engage with those particular tacks, to resort to below the belt blows in order to gain a rickety advantage or perhaps even to extract some random albeit useful information that might have failed to climb its way up the great prison vine. Is that what this is now? A rather brusque and forthright attempt stunning Vera into an incredulous silence? Though Bea Smith isn't the kind to bait and taunt her for her own personal amusement and favours a direct, no bullshit approach, she's yet to broach certain topics that cross boundaries both of them have always tacitly acknowledged and respected. Arms folding over her chest, Vera reclines back in her chair and arranges her expression to let her know just how unimpressed she is. "What's going on? Surely you don't need me to paint you a picture." 

Perhaps she should have seen it coming. With Ferguson in H block, shoulder to shoulder with a pack of women thirsty for her blood, she ought to have expected that it was bound to become personal. It's what she does. She worms her way in to plant little seeds of poison and help them grow with a little nudge here and there if it falls short and expectations aren't meant in a timely manner. Underneath the cool and stiff façade, Joan's touch and voice can be soft, even tender in their incentives, slipping orders under the guise of concerns or nonchalant observations. Vera feels her jaw tighten. Fuck her. She won't get sucked in again - won't let her wheedle the entire prison. The tight-lipped, mirthless smile quickly fades from her lips. Frowning, Vera tilts her head. "Is she getting into your head, Smith?" Been there, too, hasn't she? "Why are you asking?"

        “you don’t have to do it, you know.  vecna’s still   on my trail, too.”  the mere thought of having to face him or see the monstrous versions of her parents again makes her skin crawl, but chrissy quickly pushes the unsettling feeling down.  she was older than max — it only seemed right that chrissy would take that burden on instead.  it was just unfortunate that her lack of knowledge and experience with things concerning the upside down outweighed the ultimate decision.  “i can go in instead of you.  just say the word.”
