38. A person’s weight as they lie on top of you // Dazatsu

—

When he wakes up, the first thing he registers is the softness of his pillow. The second thing is something brushing against his chin, tickling it, and the third thing he registers is the weight on top of him. He slowly opens his sunset colored eyes and blinks, adjusting to the light before he gazes down.

Chocolate brown.

Dazai, once again, is using him as a pillow.

He’s been doing that quite a lot recently and Atsushi doesn’t really understand why. He isn’t complaining though since Dazai uses that time to sleep. God knows, how much sleep his mentor usually misses out, so he sees those times as opportunities for the improvement of Dazai’s health.

He tilts his head to the side and sees the window wide open, explaining the slight wind breezes he feels. He wonders how long Dazai has been in his apartment, laying on top of him. He’s so quiet for once too. Then again, it’s not that Dazai is necessarily loud.

There are times—a lot of them even—when Dazai would just sit still in the midst of work and stare at them all, observing what everyone is doing, maybe even searching for something in their actions, their movements and the way they speak.

Atsushi knows the other uses his buoyant behavior and expressions to cover up the deep dark thoughts in his mind. He sees it in those reticent, brown eyes and in that small smile, that always seems just a bit off. He hears it in the other’s judicious words and lithe movements—Dazai is always prepared for something, always has an infinite number of plans for every situation that occurs; it’s honestly so intimidating that Atsushi sometimes forgets how to breathe, when he stares into the other’s eyes, meeting his gaze head-on.

Caught up in his thoughts, he moves his hand slowly and lays it on the top of his lover’s head. He gently sweeps through the dark, tousled hair.

“... Atsushi?”

He blinks, sunset eyes glancing down.

“Did I wake you up?” he asks, ceasing the movement of his hand, a guilty expression on his face, “I’m sorry.”

Dazai shakes his head, continuing to hide his face in his lover’s neck. “It’s fine, I like waking up to you.”

There’s a preposterous amount of warmth building in Atsushi upon hearing those words, and he can’t help the smile forming on his face.

Then Dazai lifts his head, drowsy eyes staring at Atsushi with tenderness, taking away his breath for a moment.

“Good morning, Atsushi,” he says, smiling slightly.

“... Good morning, Dazai,” he eventually speaks up, eyes shining bright in response.

Both know it’s evening but neither one of them cares.

He opens his eyes the moment he feels the weight settling on top of him and fingers clutching onto his shirt.

“Why, hello,” he mutters, staring down at a mop of grey, disheveled hair, “did Atsushi miss me?”

Atsushi mutters something incoherent into his chest and Dazai can’t help but chuckle.

“I have no idea what you just said,” he lifts his hand to stroke the other’s hair, “but I’m always happy to have Atsushi all for me.”

Atsushi doesn’t reply and Dazai’s content with that as well, continuing to stroke the other’s head as he stares up at the ceiling. The warmth of the body on top of him reminds the former mafioso just why exactly he started to leave the ropes and guns in a box hidden in his closet, not really caring to use them anymore. He’s doing fine just like that after all, breathing and living to continue to receive Atsushi’s sunshine smiles.

Eventually, Atsushi lifts his head and glances at him. Dazai can never get enough of those sunset-colored eyes.

“I just really wanted to hug you,” Atsushi tells him, repeating the formerly incoherent words.

Dazai stops moving his hand and blinks. “Really?”

He has to ask, a part of him needs to ask.

His lover nods. “Because I’m happy you exist.”

Dazai smiles. “Thank you.”

He moves his hand to the other’s his and interlaces their fingers.

“I’m glad you exist as well, Atsushi.”

Atsushi smiles at him and then presses his face into his chest to graze the place where his heart is with his lips.

It’s a peaceful day.

what do you think of dazaixchuuya? dazaixatsushi? dazaixakutagawa? dazaixfyodor? dazaixodasaku? dazaixkunikida? dazaixango? dazaixranpo? dazaixyasano? dazaixgogol? dazaixsigma? dazaixjouno?

Hmmm, a what do ya think of these ships question. Instead of listing them in the order that they were given— I’ll put them in the order of my preference.

The guilty ships:

1. Soukoku (Dazai X Chuuya)- Surprise surpirse this would be first. It is my OTP. There is clearly so many levels to them. They aren’t enemies— they clearly care about each other even after Dazai left the mafia. It was like some type of tsundere love at first sight with these two. They bicker, but they always are there for the other. Plus there is clearly an unspoken bond and trust with them (partners or not). It might not be the perfect type of fairy tale romance — especially at first. Though that is the best thing with multiple layers.

2. Odazai (Dazai X Odasaku) - This comes close to being one, but Chuuya beat Odasaku out for that. (Sorry Odasaku). Odasaku was clearly the first true friend that Dazai had, and I would have loved to have much more included with them on canon. Hell, I would have loved to see what would have happened if Odasaku hadn’t died– just what type of dynamic would canon be there? This ship I love because it is that sweet type friendship that could have been much more. I’m pretty sure canonly there was a drunken kiss between these two. It is a weakness for me.

3. Dazai X Fyodor- The toxic loving of an enemy game. So much could go on with these two because they are so similar. They would be the type where a love would be so twisted and toxic and they would be trying to out do the other. Yet, it is hard not to be guilty of wanting this type of shipping. Fyodor clearly is the one who wants Dazai by his side– be it to use him but still my mind oddly goes but what about a pet. Guilty shipping on multiple layers here.

4. Dazai X Akutagawa: Mentor and teacher. Master and pet. I mean how can I not admit I’m guilty for this one. I feel like Dazai did want to better Ryu and that was why he did all he did – even if he did things in such a rough fashion. It is one of those toxic like ships— but could be rather dedicated and loyal depending on how things were taken.

5. Dazai X Gogol: Okay this is a guilty shipping for me , but one I can’t really talk about my thoughts. It is a complicated one — it is like it would be good move and possibly bad for those around them should these two get together.

The so so ones

6. Dazai X Atsushi: I can see where this might be a more popular shipping since Atsusushi is Dazai’s new student/ mentoree – but it is so so for me. It isn’t one that I spend much time thinking about, though I can see the aspect of them. Though for me I see this one less then Dazai X Akutagawa.

7. Dazai X Kunikida: Putting this one in the so so though it isn’t one I have really thought about much at all. Dazai working with Kunikida is one to fool around and to do what he can to ruin Kunikida’s schedule. Kunikida does have a good side, but I feel like Kunikida is a bit too stiff for Dazai. Though it could work if there is some sort of middle ground reached.

8. Dazai X Asano: Only a so so because I only just recently thought of this one. He would be all pouty because I doubt she would treat him the same as others— since her ability wouldn’t work on Dazai. He would want to try it out and perhaps even see if it would be a quick and painless death. Who knows he would probably like it— this relationship could be interesting to explore for those two– and that is the only reason I put it on so so.

9. Dazai X Ango: I see this one being more friendship then anything. Ango would be the person to be routing Dazai and Odasaku on rather then truly be seeing anything in relationship wise with Dazai. They are friends sure, Ango did help Dazai— though it would be of those one that they might try it to see. They would end up either as a small fling or dating slightly only to break up soon after.

The ones not thought of

10. Dazai X Ranpo: I can see this one out of the last three more than any of the last three. Though it isn’t one that I have thought much on. I mean hey candy and trying to one up each other.

11. Dazai X Sigma : I don’t know enough about Sigma really to be able to rate this one and give my thoughts.

12. Dazai X Jouno : I have never thought of this one really. I won’t lie I had to actually ask about this one– since I had a moment of ‘who is that again.’ I mean I can see Jouno with Atsushi but not so much with Dazai.

Howdy all! I’m super excited to participate in the week and I already have my oneshots all planned out.........but I have some slightly sobering news.

Gonna have to post a week late. :(

Sorry everybody, I know that’s a huge massive major bummer. But I’m taking a few summer intensives, and I am absolutely fucking drowning in schoolwork. It just so happens that the week is scheduled for what’s basically my finals week, so there’s no way in heckie I’m gonna have time to write 4-10k word oneshots. I’m so sorry if this is disappointing to all of you, but I promise the content will be there eventually!

I think I heard somewhere that it just so happens July 16-22 is Dazatsu week...and just like...in advance I wanted to put a disclaimer out there to all the Dazatsu community that I’m not intentionally posting during your guys’ time to be a dick. I think y’all are rad people, and you absolutely deserve your week of glorious celebration! I’m not trying to compete with you guys, and I’m not trying to belittle your contributions to the fan community of BSD. This literally just so happens to be the only week I have off, as on July 23 I start another summer class.

I’m going to be super specific about the tagging so I don’t tread on anyone’s toes since I know I’m not technically posting during my own time, and I will be posting at the same time that people are looking for a different brand of content. In the interest of this, none of my submissions will be tagged as either “Dazatsu Week”, “Dazatsu”, “DazaixAtsushi”, or even the general tag “Bungo Stray Dogs.” It’s YOUR guys’ time that I just so happen to have to use, and I’m really going to do my best not to get on anyone’s nerves.
