I made this because I know that there are at least 4 people out there who sit in the middle of the venn diagram, ‘Dungeon Crawler Carl fans’ and ‘Baldur’s Gate 3 fans’
Hey guys! I was in a DCC actual play over on @wasabiburger's YouTube channel and if you're interested in DnD/TTRPGs in general, you should definitely check it out!
I'm playing Cana, a warrior who was raised by wolves. She doesn't really get people, but she does get dirt. And that may or may not prove useful on her quest to save the haunted town of Hirot.
Hi! I thought I'd make an introduction post, since I'm very new to Tumblr.
My name is Mike. I'm non-binary (any/all pronouns). I work in social services as an intervenor for the deaf-blind. I absolutely love the people I work with every day, even if our agency has an upper-management team that is...less than ideal.
I'm also a socialist who strongly believes in worker-coops. I have three beautiful dogs, a super supportive wife who I adore with every fiber of my being, and I love tabletop roleplaying games.
In fact, I love them so much that I started a zine over the summer. We had our first issue successfully Kickstarted, and we're in the planning stages of making a second. Here's the cover for the first one.
Trey Baldwin is the artist. I wrote it.
Anyhow, we're really proud of it and hope to make a second one in the very near future.
I basically joined Tumblr because I was looking for an alternative to toxic hell-sites like Twitter and Facebook. I'm hoping I found it here, and that I can find other enthusiasts, artists, creators etc. to follow and connect with.
For my part, I'll be posting teaser art for our zine, thoughts about design and my journey, as well as just trying to find some non-toxic like-minded people.
“he isn’t chaos he is sabotage” is such a great take on ledger’s joker put so succinctly that it made all the shit discourse i’ve ever seen on twitter before worth the pain
Carl: I don’t think so, not this time. Also, I know you don’t have to type in all caps. I’ve seen you do it before. It makes you sound like you are yelling.
Playtesting some old school and current RPG adventures for GaryCon
My friend Scott McKinley is a very creative GM and puts a lot of work into throwing games at GaryCon. Part of the up front work is playtesting his adventures. I volunteered to lend a hand recently. There were two adventures: one using the Gamma World 1st ed. RPG rules from TSR and the other the more modern Dungton Crawl Classics from Goodman Games.

Something that makes me crazy is the cat/mouse coding of Carl and the AI's relationship. Obviously predator/prey connotations apply - in the sexual predator sense with the AI making Carl commit sexual acts against his will, but also in this way.
The AI is the one with all the power; Carl is essentially a slave for entertainment and doesn't retain a lot of autonomy in the dungeon as an environment, much less in his situationship with the AI. The AI is able to force Carl to do things he doesn't want to because it is able to create situations in which he has to conform to its wishes. This means that not only is the relationship extremely onesided, the power dynamic is unhealthily out of balance.
However, Carl does flee as best he can, like a mouse. He dances just out of reach of the AI's lusting jaws. When he does get caught and batted around like a cat playing with its mouse, he plays along for as briefly as possible, before escaping the metaphorical grip to once again try keep himself out of reach. A literal game of cat and mouse.
The problem is in the fact that at one point the cat gets bored. The mouse dies. AIs are infamous for getting bored with their playthings, and Carl (and his friends') biggest worry is that the AI will just one day kill Carl like a cat does a mouse. Hence, Carl can't let himself stay in the AI's grip for long, and prolongs the chase, looking for a way out. But in the dungeon, Carl has nowhere to run to. No escape. He just has to evade as long as he can whilst giving in to the AI occasionally. This means that some of the only pieces of autonomy Carl has left (sexual freedom and freedom of choice) are stripped from him, which results in disgust at himself (especially for giving in), even though he has no alternative.
