Only verbal pitches by invitation. That's how I got my start. I sold "A Fistful of Datas" to TNG as a pitch. I also sold "Descent, Pt 1" to DEAD ZONE as a pitch. Like you said, that was a thing 30 years ago, but hasn't been for a long time.

The Dead Zone will be released on 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray on December 19 via Scream Factory. The 1983 science fiction-horror-thriller is based on Stephen King’s 1979 novel.

David Cronenberg (The Fly, Videodrome) directs from a script by Jeffrey Boam (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade). Christopher Walken, Brooke Adams, Tom Skerritt, Herbert Lom, Anthony Zerbe, Colleen Dewhurst, and Martin Sheen star.

In chapter 23 Enceladia, cylonus should of seen soundwaves alt mode multiple times but later in chapter 27, he doesn't recognize soundwave. Did he just somehow miss seeing soundwave alt mode multiple times?

The other shadow was an aerial alt mode he had never seen before.

HMM yeah you're right, that's not... an ideal description, given that Cyclonus has seen SW's alt mode. There's a logic to why I wrote it like that, though. I guess I could've used "he didn't recognize," which would work better in the context of this scene.

Here's why I wrote it like that:

There are no cameras in the dead zone, where the fight takes place, and it's very hard to get information from that area. So when the characters on the bridge are looking at this scene, they're looking through far away cameras that aren't giving details. Cyclonus has a hard time recognizing the figures through all the distortion. It takes him a lil while to recognize Whirl, and you know he knows Whirl well.

You'll see Cyclonus's thoughts laid out as he tries to figure out what's going on: he first identifies them by size (too small to be ships, too large to be ship parasites), he rules out aliens (They didn't move like any of the aliens):

The star field gave way to a deeply distorted picture. Cyclonus, one of few mechs accustomed to flying over the Lost Light, recognized the curve of its hull and the patterns of its windows. Two tiny, gray shapes darted around, fuzzing in and out between dropped frames. Obviously individual aerials: too small to be ships, too large to be ship parasites. They didn't move like any of the aliens Cyclonus had encountered out there.

Then once one of the shadows opens fire, he recognizes Whirl. And then, from process of elimination and from knowing that Whirl has beef with SW, and knowing that SW has tentacles (trailing appendage), he deduces the other shadow is SW:

One of the silhouettes opened fire. The camera captured only a frame of its twin shots, but it was enough. Cyclonus knew that silhouette in an instant. Regrettable. The other shadow was an aerial alt mode he had never seen before. Slender and fast, tethered to the ship with a trailing appendage. That narrowed the possibilities down to one mech.

So yeah I guess it's not the best wording. But there was logic for why Cyclonus thought that way xD If it's a grievous error, I might change it to "didn't recognize" instead of "never seen before." They're ... slightly different nuances lol.

Moment of truth

In a recent blog I decried the torpid pace of our Internet service out here in what the tech people cheerfully call a "dead zone" - a little telecommunications semi-desert less than 10 miles from the MSU campus.

Well, we screwed up our courage and pulled the plug on the whole shebang. We are now in the bosom of a whole different telecom giant, a representative of which assured us that a new set-up - his set-up - would serve us well at both our home and cottage.

At home, it's a definite improvement. The second big test will come later today, in our first trip this year to the lake house, which also happens to lie in an Internet/cell phone weak spot.

The rep checked his map and assured us of strong signal. We'll see.

Dead Zone

After cutting their teeth on console ports of arcade games like Arabian and Route-16: Turbo, Sunsoft began creating original titles for the Famicom and its then-new Disk System add-on. Among these was Dead Zone, their first adventure game and one of the earlier examples of the genre following the Famicom port of the influential Portopia Serial Murder Case. The result is a decent sci-fi adventure that’s worth a look for what it tries to do, though it can be cumbersome.
