PACIFIC RIM AU - CH 1 Part 1

I'm very autistic about both TMNT and pacific rim, so have this!! the plot for this takes place in an alternate universe where the rim wasn't fully closed. everything plot-hole wise will be explained away later, it's there for a reason!

each chapter will have 3 parts, I'm splitting them up so i can pace myself!

TW for mentioned blood, plenty of violence and cussing if you need one for that!

this is the Rise turtles, and all are aged up by 5 years. (Making Raph 22, April 21, Donnie and Leo 20, Reader 19 and Mikey 18!) the events of the Rise movie or most of rise in general, along with the Pacific rim movies, won't be used. this is an excuse for me to be weird about my interests ♡♡

Things weren't going well. The war against the kaiju out in the Pacific wasn't going great either. Many jeagers and their pilots had been lost. In fact, pilots were sparse, few and far between. That is, legal pilots. In the slums of NYC, there were 6 delinquent individuals. And not far away there was a junkyard full of old jeagers from both the US and Canada.

Those 6 had spent years, almost a decade by now, gathering parts and assembling their very own jeagers, hidden in warehouses along the docks. These young adults had even perfected drift compatibly down to a science, literally. Teams of two, that was the deal, and they were all partnered off.

Donatello was most compatible with his older sister figure April. Raphael with Michelangelo.

And Leo with [NAME].

An odd team, compared to the others. a short fused, easily upset human with a cocky turtle who laughed through all his problems. A team that shouldn't have worked. And yet it did. Flawlessly, even.

In fact, most would think they were only paired due to being the last options left, when infact they were the first to be found compatible. They fueled each others ego when needed, brought each other down to Earth more often than not, fueled the others rage and motivated them to keep going when things looked bleak.

Most would think they were just teens in love, and they wouldn't necessarily be wrong. [NAME] had harbored feelings for the blue clad turtle since they first piloted side by side, even before. His memories, his hopes, his fears. They'd seen them all and still fell for him all the same. But it was something they had to bury deep. A day would inevitably come when they would have to pilot in a fight, and their feelings cannot get in the way.

And today was the day, apparently. [NAME] was sat straddling the shoulder of their jeager, clinging tightly while they welded on some finishing touches to the large blue and white bot. And not a second too late were these upgrades finished.

Mikey burst through the warehouse doors into the large, dusty space, making [NAME] twist around at the waist and stare down at him, shocked by his sudden entrance.

"KAIJU! OFF THE COAST! LIKE, RIGHT NOW!!" His arms flailed wildly as he tried to talk with his hands and convey his distress. He definitely succeeded in that last part.

"DEADASS?? You're kidding, right?! Aren't they only in the Pacific?!" Their welding items and mask were dropped off into the basket and the rope untied, sending it plummeting down. [NAME] caught the end of the rope, gently lowering it the last of the way quickly as Mikey continued to holler.

"No, no I'm not kidding!! It's moving fast, Dee and Apes are already out there! We gotta go Now!" He was still gesturing wildly, bouncing on his heels like he was about to bolt to suit up. And he was, [NAME] could tell.

"Shit okay!! Go get Leo, tell him to get his blue ass in here!" [NAME] called as they scrambled down the arm with practiced ease.

As if on queue, Leo bolted in and almost knocked Mikey over, clambering up the jeager's leg at surprising speed. Mikey bolted out the instant Leo was in the room, likely because the warehouse holding his and Raph's jeager was down the way a little.

By the time both pilots were inside, in sync and moving, the kaiju was up in the shallows, coming off the coastal shelf. The bots burst from their warehouses, tearing them to splinters. The two bots sprinted through the decrepit storage yard, barreling towards the nearby sea and the other jeager.

Leo and [NAME] moved in tandem, running in place and pumping their arms in sync. The neural handshake was strong as always and practically ensured precision. They sped ahead of Mikey and Raph's jeager, taunting eachother over the comms.

"Damn, you guys are slow today! And that's saying something Mr. Orange-insisted-on-long-ass-legs-on-this-itty-bitty-torso!' Leo panted into the mic, teasing Mikey about his design choices.

"Oh shut up Leo!! Did you even bring medic supplies like you were supposed to?" Mikey was yelling and [NAME] almost had to crank down their comms to stop the oncoming headache, chuckling the entire time.

"No, he didn't Mike." [NAME] faux whispered into the comms, knowing it would be heard by Leo anyways.

"HEY-"

"Guys! We need to handle this as a team, which means no. Fighting!" Raph interjected, cutting Leo off and smashing the red jeager's fist into its palm mid run as if to punctuate his point.

"Hey, hi, hello! We could REALLY use some help right now! Our plasma cannon rounds are low and we don't have any more back at home, so I'd really fucking hate to run out right now!!" April jumped in, sounds of struggle from inside the jeager alongside the screaming of metal and the bellows of the beats could be faintly heard.

"Shit, sorry Apes, we are enroute! ETA is about a minute and a half out!" [NAME] reassured their friend, going faster and pushing themselves to the limit to get there quicker, which in turn made Leo speed up too.

"Yeah yeah, hurry UP!" Donnie interjected. He wasn't really one to talk on comms, so hearing him made everyone realize how bad the situation must be.

Finally close enough, Leo and [NAME] got good visuals on the fight. Running across a large stretch of gravelly sand they could see Donnie and April's jeager, Echo Seven, grappling hand to hand with a giant beast. This kaiju was likely only a category 2, but it was still formidable on the battlefield. The kaiju looked like a pangolin, shark and lionfish all at once, with spines along it's back and arms, scaley plates covering it's body and fin-like legs supporting the whole thing. The head resembled that of a shark with some odd growths and horns.

Even worse, the kaiju towered over the green jeager. This normally wouldn't have been a problem, their jeagers were small, but Echo Seven was that tallest of their little fleet.

Even with the disadvantage of size, the fleet had the advantage of speed and team work. The mace flew past Typhoon Eden, the blue jeager, landing right on the creatures back, crushing spines and causing the kaiju to scream out in pain. Just as the creature whipped around, flailing that long tail of its in an attempt to knock down Brawler Fury, the red jeager. Typhoon Eden, and subsequently the pilots, ducked and rolled underneath the flying tail before sliding across the dunes beneath it's belly. Time seemed to slow as they delivered an uppercut punch, rolling to a stop right beside Echo Seven and the creature was forced to rear back with the force of the blow.

"Thank God, what took y'all so long?!" April hollered over comms.

"Eh, downtown traffic, you know how it is." Leo joked back, earning a small chuckle from [NAME]. They began running the small bot up the bigger bot's back and onto the monster, working seamlessly like a well oiled machine. The kaiju had been mid-turn when Typhoon Eden ascended, the creature moving to attack Brawler Fury. The blue and white bot grabbed tight to the keratin horns and yanked, putting all the force of the bot and their combined fury to the test.

The kaiju's head was reared back again, and Brawler Fury was able to land a few hits to the chest and neck and tangle up it's front legs in the chain. Typhoon Eden's pilots shared a nod and attempted to snap the kaiju's neck and end this battle quickly. Just as the head began to be yanked at a full force by the jeager the monster threw its head forward in an attempt to buck off the mecha.

Typhoon Eden managed to hang on and ride the kaiju like a bucking bronco for a minute, but were ultimately sent tumbling info Brawler Fury, knocking both jeagers back into the sand. During the time it took for that one move to throw off the plan of attack, Donnie had concocted a new one.

"April, under it! If we go under it and plasma blast it we can rip it to shreds!!" Donnie spoke a little too quickly, undecipherable to anybody except those close to him.

Echo Seven tucked in on itself an rolled onto the jeager pile, landing on it's back with it's arms flung wide, as the baest shuddered and collapsed.

"Got it, got it!"

And with that the two of them ran in tandem, falling to their knees and leaning back in a mock power slide. Their plasma cannon ripped and burned through the creatures belly, tearing it from anus to mouth as sickly teal blood began to ooze from the rift and drop onto the sand below.

Shock and joy filled everyone's systems and within a minute all three bots were on their feet, holding each other's shoulders and jumping for joy as the comms lit up with boisterous laughter.

They did it! They'd defeated a kaiju! All on their own! They were as good as actual pilots with no training and half the jeager!

Just as the celebration was coming to an high and the adrenaline rush crashed, a booming voice rang through the atmosphere.

"Unauthorized jeager pilots, exit your jeagers and surrender."

The loud voice was demanding and left no room for contemplation. All four turtles, alongside their human companions, exited the command pods cautiously.

The giant, full sized jeager cast a shadow over the pilots and their bots. The Saber Athena glowered down at the six young adults, who simply stared in awe.

Eventually, and nervously, [NAME] and Raph both waved at the massive jeager, one five fingered hand next to a three fingered one. The pilots of Saber Athena must've been stunned, an educated guess substantiated by the lack of response or movement since the pilots of the rouge jeagers emerged.

The Saber Athena straightened, and one of her pilots cleared their throat before speaking.

"Re-enter your jeagers and retrieve your weapons. Await orders from there. And no funny business. understood?" A different, higher voice came through the comms, presumably the other pilot.

A lot of nodding and a few salutes were sent towards the Saber Athena and her pilots before the children dispersed, splitting off into pairs and disappearing quickly back down the hatches into their jeagers.

Teasing jabs and laughter could be hear over the comms, and the pilots of Saber Athena seemed to relax at the lightheartedness. These kids weren't here to cause trouble, that could've been guessed by the fact that they took down the kaiju instead of the city while they had the chance, but they had been uncertain up until this point.

It wasn't long before all three jeagers were up and running again, and again the voice they'd heard first came over the comms.

"What are your designations and names?" The voice seemed almost softer, but not by much. Enough to allow them room to respond, but still demanding.

The blue and white jeager raised it's hand first as an older teens voice came across the comms.

"Pilot number one here, you can call me Leo. This here is my lovely co-pilot [NAME] and our bot is the Typhoon Eden." The jeager did a theatrical bow followed by a curtsy, one for each pilot assumably.

The giant Saber Athena nodded sharply before directing it's gaze to the next, a green and black robot.

"Hi, hello, I'm April-" The left hand of the jeager waved a little, but rather enthusiastically.

"-And I'm Donnie." The right hand raised in the least enthusiastic wave possible.

"And we're piloting the Echo Seven." Both hands began doing jazz hands, except one was more exaggerated than the other.

Another nod from Saber Athena and a vague salute from the Echo Seven were exchanged before they moved on for the final time. Their gaze directed at the red and black bot seemed to make it stiffen as one of the pilots began to speak.

"Oh, yeah, okay so I'm Mikey, and," The speakers attention seemed to shift from the Saber Athena to someone else, supposedly it's co-pilot. "You wanna introduce yourself?"

The jeager shook its head, before the teen continued.

"Okay, and that's Raph and this is our beloved Brawler Fury!"

The Saber Athena looked from bot to bot before speaking.

"Well, it's easy to assume none of you have licenses. Or experience. Or training." As if to punctuate and add weight to each sentence the giant jeager looked pointedly at each bot, assessing them almost. "And based on how advanced your jeagers are, for hunks of scrap at least, parents who don't care." The higher voice pitched in.

The smaller jeagers all have different reactions. The Typhoon Eden looks ready to launch and attack the Saber Athena, Echo Seven stiffens up and stands at attention, falling completely radio silent as if they weren't already, and the Brawler Fury seems to curl in on itself.

A small crowd of civilians were now gathering nearby on a sight seeing parking area on the side of the road, simply observing. The Saber Athena held a hand out.

"Welcome aboard."

And with nothing else the jeager turned around and began to talk away, turning back after a few steps to see if the smaller jeagers were following. Not one had moved from it's previous spot, but all the stances had gone slack from surprise or relief, maybe both. The Saber Athena nodded its head sharply towards the direction it was walking in and began to move again, except now the pilots could hear the scramble of the three smaller jeagers running to keep up.

i have the outline done for a tedtrent western film AU inspired by a convo with @stevecarrington @tomlinfonda and @larkin21 !!

the fic is set in the 60s, right as the western genre is going out of style. rebecca owns a film studio (richmond studios) in hollywood, and wants to blow up its reputation to get back at rupert. so she has higgins cast ted, a high school drama teacher from kansas, to star in an upcoming western film. she then personally hires trent, an established director well-known for being a cold-hearted bitch to work with, to direct the movie. the film itself is risky, as it subverts cornerstones of the western genre. this is the film's synopsis:

Mason "Badlands" Morris (Theodore Lasso) is a lone cowboy rider hired for a job he don't normally do: escort a Miss Josephine Fairfax (Keeley Jones) from Kansas all the way to California so she can reunite with her beau Jack (Jamie Tartt). To ensure no untowardness, her uncle Ezra (Roy Kent) accompanies them, himself desperate for a change. Over the course of 14 days during the spring of 1856, the trio face unexpected challenges and uncover secrets which would best be left buried.

the fic spans from the first initial table read all the way to release day. shenanigans and unlikely romances ensue. i have everything for this SO clearly mapped in my head and on paper, but i know it's going to be a massive undertaking putting it into words. so if i could just...read it instead that'd be amazin LMAO

basically the fic is about different times roy and jamie sleep together in the same bed. it explores their unspoken codependency and the soft intimacy they share underneath their weird dynamic. the reason i'm frustrated is that i cannot seem to find a good enough explanation for why they start sharing a bed LMAO

currently i have something inspired by the fonda/redford film Our Souls At Night, where jamie shows up at roy's door one night and is like "i can't sleep, mate. i miss having a person next to me."

we'll see though. maybe i'll find motivation for the fic again

• really good with taking care of people and wounds!! surprisingly empathetic?? like when it comes to taking care of people they're very empathetic idk how to explain it's just if they're not taking care of people they're not as empathetic they might be insensitive but it's just they don't really understand social cues or some emotions 😞

• other than that they like alot of niche things and that Include games!! THEY LOVEEE STORY BASED GAMES!! (what remains of Edith Finch is the perfect example) but they also like other type of games!! they're willing to play fps or first person shooting games it's just... they suck at aiming and will probably stay with being a healer or something because they deadass cannot aim AT ALL

It’s actually easier to say what animation style I DON’T like.

Motion tweening.

I cannot STAND motion tweening on most days and it’s mostly because a lot of furry art became over saturated with it and because a lot of people are real lazy with it?? Like some people attempt motion tweening art and they don’t put in the extra work to build their in between frames or clean up their transitions or just make sure the body parts aren’t clipping through anything c’mon if your gonna animate put in the work to make it not an eye crime.

Now when motion tweening animation is done right it can look great! I’ve seen some motion tweening animation that looks almost comparable to hand drawn animation! You can still pickout the mechanical squash and stretch motion tweening does but that can be masked better when you actually put in the work.

In my opinion motion tweening is best meant for subtle or background animation. Like falling leaves or that shoulder movement meant to simulate breathing that Live2D used to oversaturate their marketing with 😹

I guess if I really had to choose a favorite I’d pick traditional hand drawn animation but especially the style that blends 2D on 3D environments! Think those super late 90s early 00s animated movies like Treasure Planet and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron. I miss this style of animation cause it felt so unique seeing standard cartoon figures suddenly zoom out to a sweeping shot of this elaborate stage with all these parts moving independently and with such depth it makes a nice mouth feel for the eyes.

Stop motion is also pretty near and dear to my heart for the genuine dedication you have to have for this craft and the time you spend on it to get everything just right 👌🏾👌🏾 Like I’m always down to watch Coraline or Chicken Run or Paranorman or Kubo or Isle of Dogs

Also this style of using 2D effects on 3D models and environments has me losing my mind over how GORGEOUS it is Into the Spiderverse my absolute BELOVED like I deadass saw that in theaters three times because it is so BEAUTIFUL on the big screen trust and believe I’m going to se the sequel in theaters even if theaters in a post pandemic era still scares me

Rubberhose animation is good of course but very few that try to emulate it truly put in the work for it. Rubberhose is supposed to be all wiggly and bouncy but some that try to emulate it only go as far as extreme squash and stretch. Cuphead actually GETS it and the work they put into that game’s animations paid off. (I know Bendy and the Ink Machine has some tiny animations too but eh)

Lord this post is long 😹 I’ll finish by saying CGI can be great but too many sources focus on the high fidelty of the graphics and less the quality of the animation. I don’t care if you can see the character’s pores or the individual strands of their hair and I don’t want animation to be indistinguishable from Live Action I wanna watch the silly cartoon men. Hotel Transylvania is so pleasing to the eyes in how it manages to emulate 2D squash and stretch with 3D models and the extra work the animators put in to sculpt those additional models for the inbetween frames to create the squash and stretch we expect from cartoons is big brain.

I can and will talk forever about animation I didn’t even get to named styles like Don Bluth or Genndy Tartakovsky or Ghibli or Studio Trigger 😹😹

kinda funny that people complained about the tone shifting and back and forth between drama and comedy bc like..... that's kinda what he's known for lmao which I personally found fun. but it felt like the resolution was built around the need for hope and love and I just!! like those types of narratives

i cannot fucking believe that people are deadass about trying to say the movie is homophobic/transphobic like 100% a combination of weird terminally online fan brain of a celeb getting too popular and making shit up in combination with racism (and weirdly enough queerphobia too???) like I feel like the queer rep in it seemed obvious that they did what they could and god marvel is soooo behind on queer rep too so it's!! nice having multiple queer characters!!! and it's nice having these characters talk about being queer!!!

I GOT TO SEE THE FNAF MOVIE ON THE DAY IT RELEASED IN AUS AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH im so happy i did. I kinda need to talk about. EVERYTHING that happened. As this is what i just do now when i get all hyperfixated on stuff. but maybe a lil review for people that don't want spoilers (if anyone actually sees this), any spoilers will be under the cut. you have been warned. (i also go off about thinking about theories i apologise)

NO SPOILERS So I liked it. I think it was a good, FUN movie. i say fun because. IT WAS VERY MUCH FUN. It didn't take itself deadly seriously, and while part o f me was interested how it would go if it did, i'm also EXTREMELY happy it didn't as i feel that would've made it's. bad moments bad in a less. than funny way. I wish Matthew Lillard was in it a lil more and I don't think it's like. perfect. i had a few gripes with some of the scenes (which i'll get into under the cut) BUT.

overall? loved it. 10/10 100% recommend you watch it. Also people y'all should never trust the critic reviews for movies like these because they don't CARE about the plot. they don't KNOW fnaf, nor are in t he fanbase. ofc a fucking 40 year old that knows nothing about fnaf isn't gonna like it. I SURE HOPE NOT!! CAUSE THEY ARE BORING OLD MEN!!

firstly, getting this out the way because i had a fucking STROKE when i saw matpat. WHAT A FUCKING LIAR. WHAT A LITTLE SHIT(lovingly)!!! HE GOT ME WITH HIS CROC TEARS! i thought he was so deadass when he was all teary eyed saying he wished he was in the movie. i was so upset! i was gonna have a fucking go at scott! I'm so happy he's in the movie it was. such a cute little scene. though how dare he were a nametag that says ness.

secondly vanessa being afton's daughter wasn't that surprising. When i realised that michael wasn't willy's son (like bio or anything) my first thought was "oh well he has to have some type of child" because. scott does that, like in his books. things get changed up sometimes but most things stay the same. aka him having at least one child, just means he didn't get two deadones as well. So when vanessa showed up (i forgot she was in it lmao) i was like. OH YEAH THAT'D. WORK I GUESS. and just assumed immediately thats what they were doing.

ESPECIALLY WHEN SHE WAS GETTING ALL PISSY AT MIKE? like that was a lil obvious she was trying to hide that her father committed the murders cause she didn't want any backlash.

I cannot judge children for their acting because they are children. But i will say one of the children (cough eric) was looking at the camera before. you can see his eyes focusing on the guy behind it. NOT A BIG DEAL I WAS JUST OBSERVING AND FOUND THAT DISTRACTING. also abby's actor was cute i just think a few scenes are a lil iffy with her (she is a child im not blaming her).

vanessa's and mike's romance. what a. thing huh. kinda crazy considering in an alternate reality (the canon universe) mike is william's son and Vanessa isn't. feels kinda weird. but laso like if me MYSELF was vanessa and saw mike? that pathetic man? that absolute sopping WET cat of a man? yeah. fair. i'd be down bad.

listen. i stand by that the whole. abby befriending the fazgang was. 'bad' in the sense of. bro that's so cringe but i am LAUGHING keep on GOING. but also because. hey. consider this. those anamatronics are children. and stuck like that. THEY ARE STUCK AT THAT MENTAL AGE. I THINK IT'D BE SO FAIR THEY'D BE EXCITED TO BEFRIEND A NORMAL FUCKING KID THAT'S NOT DEAD!! this is why im happy the movie didn't go super serious because.

while YEAH it would've been emotional to see this played more seriously, them upset they're dead and still befriending abby, it's just the fact that it probably would've. not landed well, or at least completely, so it would've still had a 'bad' vibe to it. just THIS way we can all laugh at it. I had my head in my hands a few times because i was just "oh gOD" looking @ you. pillow fort. bonnie fucking laying his ass down.

i also understand why scott didn't do the fnaf games lore, or book lore, because he can have more fun with it this way, and also work with blumhouse to make original ideas instead of just. copy pasting from the games/books and hoping they do it well enough it lands.

Lore wise im interested if william has more bio children and how many other children he's killed. what animatronic eric is, if they're going by the logic that everyone bro kills turns into one (imagine he's bb). my friend charlotte said he might be the puppet but. that role i would expect from Henry's daughter. if henry still exists? please tell me henry still exists-

I'm also interested how they're gonna make mike keep on coming back/being involved? we can't go back to fnaf 2 since that was a prequel, i mean i quess you could but also that just doesn't feel correct to do in a movie. so im expecting scott is going to have to (SURPRISE SURPRISE) completely clear up what games go where. so rn it's fnaf 1, we know fnaf 2 was before since bb is there so we're not gonna get a fast one pulled on us on that end. fnaf 3 might be next? but i could also like. see scott skipping that one. BUT i could also see him not skipping it because he wants to 'redeem' it and show that. yeah he fucked up the game but he can make up with it via movie.

oh something obvious to say. vanessa is more than likely a robot. im not gonna get into a fight with the whole robot people are stupid when it's fucking in the books JFHEDSKNJA SO. IM JUST NOT. but like. considering she's afton's daughter i would not be surprised if she actually died when she was younger and got turned into a robot. it's just how it is.

can't wait for fnaf 2 probably coming out in fucking 2031 and fnaf 3 the final coming out in 2045 <3 i might not make it to those movies HFNKEJSD jokes aside im. happy with the movie, excited to see more, especially the lore for it, and though i think fnaf's lore is a garbage fire it's also fun to look at when you take a step back and just. decide to enjoy it with 0 thinking skills for a second.

Y/N’s POV

I’m grinning at my reflection in the mirror as I put on a pair of earrings. My face is already touched-up with a little make-up and my hair is looking on point. I can almost see my own reflection in the shine of excitement in my eyes. I take in my upper body via a quick once-over in the full body mirror opposite me, and I finally relax my muscles that I didn’t ever realize I was tensing.

“OK, now I’m ready.“ I say as a form of encouragement as I reach behind me for my phone that’s sitting on my bed.

You might be wondering where I’m going? Who I’m going with? What’s the occasion behind this many preparations and pampering?

The answer: Nowhere. No one. Nothing. I’m literally not even going to leave my house.

It might seem ridiculous to someone else, but to me, to my hypnotized mind, it’s perfectly reasonable to be getting so amped up over a FaceTime call. Yeah, you heard me correctly - a FaceTime call. 

Well, you see, this isn’t the first time we FaceTime, but it will be the first time we’ll see each other’s faces. I wanted to level the field so I didn’t let him on to what I look like, where exactly I live, etc. Basically, he only knows my name, which I am still prepared to call unfair, considering I don’t know his real name. 

A brief backstory to my first ever real interaction with Corpse: I was introduced to him by my friends. They are the ones I always turned to with all the scary shit happening in my life. Often times they didn’t know weather to comfort me or laugh at my curse. My friends suggested I start sharing it to a youtuber named Corpse Husband. You see, I love YouTube narrators and I’ve always been a fan of Mr. Nightmare and I, to be perfectly honest, always kept the idea of sending him my stories in the back of my mind. Nevertheless, I bit the bullet and checked out on of this Corpse Husband guy’s videos. And then another. And another. And before I knew it I was having a marathon after which I was too paranoid to get online, walk home alone at night, leave my curtains open etc. It wasn’t all thanks to the stories themselves. A lot of the fear factor these stories strike with should be credited to the way they are read. Let me tell you, this guy had it all figured out with the reading. Not sending him my stories would just be wrong. So I did, I sent him my first ever creepy encounter which was with a stalker from my high school and it took me only two days to forget about it. It only crossed my mind when my friends blew my phone up, demanding I watched Corpse’s new video. I kid you not, I got more scared by the story when he read it than when I lived it. That’s what settled it for me - I decided to send him each and every story.

And then one day, out of the blue, my life changed for the better in more ways than one. It got turned completely upside down, like a rollercoaster, and I just had to hold on and enjoy the ride, embrace the adrenaline rush and excitement, knowing full well that I chose to get on and there’s no way I can get off halfway through. 

I’m being too metaphorical. He sent me an email. He freaking reached out to me. And I was posed with a rough choice. Took me a minute, but I chose to reply to him, I chose to trust him, and I couldn’t just leave him on read one day simply cause I chickened out. Yes, I’m unlucky and these things don’t happen to unlucky people. I mean, they do, but they are nightmares disguised as a dream come true. I’ve lived all my life cautiously: if something sounds too good to be true it’s either not as good as marketed or not true at all. If it’s dark and late and there are no people around, FaceTime someone. If your Uber driver’s sketchy, cancel the ride. I take all the precautions and I still find myself in the worst situations. Or at least...

My thoughts are interrupted by the ringing of my phone. A simple ringtone I hear every time he calls me. A simple sound that causes me butterflies when I hear it and ultimate devastation if the caller ID doesn’t read the name I want. It always gets me excited, probably more than it should. This time is different, however. It’s scary almost. I’m nervous, anxious, scared, hesitant - all things I never feel when I’m about to answer his call. 

With shaky hands I pick up the call and find myself looking at the most beautiful person I’ve ever met. Now I know why I would have never initiated this meeting, because I know what color my face is right now. I know my voice has let me down before I even attempt to speak. I know I look like a mess. I know my obvious crush is showing.

Corpse initiated this meeting. He said he was getting too curious and he wanted one of his best friends to see him and for him to finally see her. It’s been about seven months since we first started texting and I haven’t let out a single peep about it to a single soul. It’s just between him and I. We are each other’s safe space away from the rest of the world.

“Thought you weren’t gonna pick up for a second there.“ His voice is not as confident as other times when we’ve talked. His trying to hide his own nervousness and all I wanna do is hug him and tell him he doesn’t have to. I kept telling him over and over again that we don’t have to do this if he’s not sure that he actually wants it. I even offered to show him what I look like, not expecting to see him in return but he declined, saying it was now his turn to even the field.

“I was in another room.“ I manage to say, my voice only shaking a little.

We spend a few moments just looking at each other. Admiring one another. For someone who prefers digital interaction, I am surprised to realize I wish he was actually standing in front of. I wish I could hug him. A long hug of comfort, mutual understanding and hidden feelings.

He lets out a short laugh, shaking his head which causes a few strands of hair to fall over his eyepatch, “I’m sorry...It’s just-...Fuck I’m stumbling.” He chuckles nervously, “I just...can’t believe you are real. You are a real person. And the most beautiful person I’ve seen. That’s corny, isn’t it.” He looks away from the screen, his face now a shade of red. “But I mean it. I’m embracing my corniness. You are beautiful, Y/N. Not that I’m flexing or anything, but I’m lucky to have met you.”

I laugh, feeling my eyes stinging from the tears that have suddenly formed. I don’t want to let them fall, but I don’t have much say in that. “Well, mister Corpse, I can’t begin to compare. I mean...that hair! I still cannot believe it’s you. You are not just a deep voice in my mind. You are....you are...”

“Everything you imagined and more?“ he jokes, making my whole body heat up. “I told you you could trust. I mean, if the hair doesn’t confirm I’m who I say I am, I don’t know what will.”

“Actually, I never tried to imagine what you looked like. I knew those visions...I knew they didn’t matter. Faces don’t matter to us, Corpse. I think you realize that.“

And just like that, all I’ve been keeping hidden is pouring out. I don’t try to stop it - you can’t stop a hurricane with bare hands.

“I never needed a face to imagine us. I always saw as talking on the phone, playing Among Us. Reading scary stories to each other on Discord. I never needed a face to imagine your company. To imagine what we could be...“ I trail off, letting the first tear slip down my cheek.

The most sincere look appears in his eyes, “Fuck, I wish I could hold your hand right now. Never mind, I wish I could hug you, Y/N. Hug you and not let go for a long time.”

I laugh halfheartedly, my chest burning from the intensity of this moment’s intimacy, “I can always tell you where I live.” I’m only half-joking. I really want to see him in real life, not just through a screen, but even this call is out of his comfort zone, let alone a physical meet up.

He surprises me yet again, “Saturday. I’ll bring the take out, you pick the movie.” he says with a smile that is literally saying ‘you didn’t see that coming, did you?’

“How are you sure I don’t live in a different state, or a different continent all together?“ I tease, making an attempt to put my composure back together.

He smirks, “I pay way more attention to your stories than you’d think.” I laugh, shaking my head as a pointless method of fighting the pesky tears that he has 100% noticed by this point. “By the way, just because we’re....” he thinks for a second, “in a weird zone between friendship and...something more, doesn’t mean you have to stop sending me stories. I absolutely love reading them for my audience. They love em too.”

I just realized I am yet to tell him the crazy miracle that has happened. “Well, the thing is...I don’t have any.” His eyebrows shoot up in shock which makes me laugh, “Yeah, I know, it’s crazy. Since the day we started talking I have not experienced a single scary thing. Deadass. I swear on my life.”

If I wasn’t so head over heels for this man already, the baffled expression on his face would definitely send me falling for him. He’s just that adorable. “Wow.”

“I know right.“ I nod, “Seems to me you have enough luck to share with me.“

His eyes light up at that comment, showing just how meaning full it is to him.

Daisuke Kambe let out an exhausted sigh as he parked his car in the garage. His hair was tousled, eyelids dropping, and jacket discarded on the passenger seat beside him. The case earlier has proven difficult than the previous ones he had taken. The criminal was harder to catch with his agility and athletic abilities, and was not easily persuaded when beckoned by cash. Not to mention his partner has been rebuking him the whole time, ranting about how justice workes and how money does not solve everything - basically, the usual. He was extremely fatigued, and all he wanted to do was wash up and go to bed with his beloved in his arms.

A tired smile broke his bland visage at the thought of you. The only reason he hasn't decided to spend the night at a hotel was because you weren't there. The faster he moves, the faster he can get to bed with you. Oh, he can't wait to see you and that little puppy of yours and his.

Daisuke let out a chuckle. "Come on. Let's get you to bed." He stood up easily even with your form carried in his arms. Chico jumped out of the couch at the same time and followed Daisuke as he carried you upstairs to your shared room, lying you down carefully on the bed. Daisuke made an attempt to withdraw from the withholding grapple of your arms around his neck but his endeavor was less then proliferant as you have established a stronger hold on him, unrelenting.

Daisuke let out a sigh as he tried to adjust from the uncomfortable stance he was positioned in. "I need to change first, Y/N." Badgered Daisuke, hands resting on your back.

Yet his words did no preclude you and you merely shook your head in response. "No," Your eyes shone with defiance, pout manifesting on your lips. "Stay."

"I'll come back in a few, love. I can't sleep in my work clothes." Insisted Daisuke, resolve crumbling the more he looked into your eyes.

Sometimes Daisuke sometimes wondered just how much power you had over him. He couldn't say no to you, apart for that one time when you asked if you two could get a puppy. Looking back at it, he felt guilty that he did not allow you two to have a dog earlier but if it wasn't for his stubborness, you wouldn't have come across Chico.

Speaking of the little puppy, it had successfully jumped on the bed and let out a merry howl. Distracted by the new development of the young dog, you were able to pull Daisuke down on the space beside you and did not think twice before snuggling to his side, arms embracing him tightly as you grinned happily, a happy giggle exiting your lips. You rubbed your head on his shoulders, sighing contentedly. "You're staying here with us."

Daisuke looked down at your beaming face and looked away, redness tinting his cheeks. "If it can't be helped." He stated, but he knew he made his choice the moment you had told him to stay.

Daisuke slowly wrapped his arms around you and pulled you closer, and you willingly accepted his affection. You were so warm, so loving. How did he ever find you?
