romance me with mosquito facts
mosquitoes, when in a condensed enough space, sound like gentle rain.
i work with a specific mosquito species, called the aedes agypti, which carries diseases like dengue virus, west niles virus, and yellow fever. the males are generally smaller than the females, though emerge into adults sooner. you can tell the difference between males and females by the fluffy antennas of the males.
gay mosquitoes everywhere.
mosquitoes tend to be social, if stupid creatures. if you stick two mosquitoes alone in a cage, they probably wont chill (and wont mate). it's just not their style. this is especially frustrating when trying to set up specific genetic crosses.
although i never met them, there used to be a researcher at the lab who did the most batshit stuff. we keep our mosquitoes in mesh cages, so they can't escape but they can feed through the mesh (so we don't have to reach in and out of the cages and potentially let some loose). this old researcher used to grab the morning newspaper, roll up his pants, collapse in a chair and settle his calves over the mesh cages for literal thousands of mosquitoes to feed from him. for hours. i want to meet this man so bad.
mosquitoes are stupid and annoying and prone to killing themselves akin to a goldfish constantly getting stuck in a filter. but strangely enough, you grow to love them. they are simultaneously fragile and durable, easily discernible and difficult to hunt. you can tear their hind legs off and put them through shock a few times and they'll be fine, but a single finger will smush them (quite inconveniently, when you know that bitch could've moved!).
directly after bloodfeeding a female mosquito, if you kill her—often by clapping her directly between your hands (female mosquitoes are the only ones to bloodfeed)—the blood will still be warm.
although i dont screen larvae for traits as often as I used to (I tend to do more database/mosquito caretaking work now), certain gene-linked traits can be found physically in the larvae and pupae stages—sometimes they glow bright blue/green under fluorescent lighting, for example.
like I said though, i mostly work with caretaking. i do the bloodfeeding, i replace their food and water, and i make sure they're in good health and can lay eggs on a proper surface. the mosquitoes under my care live for about a month and a half, though if they're still alive by the time we need to hatch the next generation, we simply fridge them and kill them off. put mosquitoes in the fridge for a few minutes and they'll go to sleep. put them in for a few hours, and they'll usually die— we keep them in for 24 hours to make sure, though.
mosquitoes are difficult to contain. compared to other biochemistry departments, you have tiny creatures that are mobile and can fly, and can't always be seen by the average person unless they're specifically looking for it. I've worked in microbiology labs before, but if there was contamination, it was solely on the researcher. contamination from a loose mosquito is hard to track. this is all to say that I work in a bunker—double doors, minimal vents, no windows.
mosquitoes are the deadliest animals in the world. mosquitoes kill over a million people a year (hence my research). i sit in the back of the bunker sometimes, in the side warm room where we keep our cages of mosquitoes, hundreds of different genetically modified lines in progress at a time, and I have blood on my palms— blood that I fed to my subjects before I squashed them because they escaped from their cages, and I think about the fact that for over 200 lines of this species, I grow them from eggs to adults to death and hatch their offspring again and again and again. i think of lovecraftian horror and I hear gentle rain and remember images of war that keep me up late at night, and I wonder what's the point, for a few numbers in my bank account, and then another mosquito has gotten loose and lands on my arm and doesn't bite me, because it's already full; because i already fed it; because it's just looking for a small, dark place to rest in the folds of my jacket.
mosquitoes love to hide on black surfaces.

Oh my Moon is just a sweetheart!
He’s a little awkward but wouldn’t hurt a fly
Look at him!! He’s so friendly!
Tumblr media
Seriously though in my headcannon universe Moon’s biggest sin is just being a little too jealous of Sun
He’s just an awkward guy, not really malicious
But when he gets the virus most of his worst most intrusive thoughts get brought up to the surface and leads to him helping with the kidnapping of children for Vanessa and almost murdering someone Sun is close with.
Worst of all he’s very aware of his actions, as they are all technically his own thoughts, just amplified and uncontrollable

Hellooo, hope you are having a nice day! I discovered your work not long ago, but I already liked it a lot! I'd like to order a Cody/X Virus x Reader, in which the Reader is a biology nerd who is enthralled by Cody's skills and knowledge! Just the two of them being adorable nerds together!! 👉👈🤧💕
((it's so hard to find content about Cody, and it makes me particularly sad because he's my favorite creepypasta! 🥹🥹🥹))
Anyway, thank you in advance!! 💞
HIHII! I'm so sorry for the long wait, my life has been wild this last couple of weeks, but I'm back at writing and YES CODY'S FANS RISE UP!! Love me when he is a psychopathic scientist lol. Hope you enjoy this!
X Virus x Biology Nerd Reader
Cody normally keeps to himself in his lab, and is not really used to having people besides EJ or Toby around. So when he gets assigned a lab partner, he got skeptical.
He couldn't understand if this was some wild scheme from the others to make him interact more, or if you were actually someone with enough knowledge to work with him, but he couldn't complain since it was orders from the proxies.
You were going to be Cody's lab partner due to your area of knowledge on biology being similar in level to his, and you were certainly excited to find someone with an interest similar than yours, from what you heard of him.
When you did come to the lab, and looked around the place, you were certainly excited with the amount of biology related stuff. It was all you ever wanted, and it made your love for the subject bubble out.
Cody met you right there, on the lab, and at first he was REALLY skeptical, because you looked decent.
'since when does a scientist looks decent? They will not understand at all what I'm doing'
But the moment you opened your mouth and started accurately guessing what each thing he had was, his eyes sparkled. No way...
"Oh my god, you have a guide to the human cardiovascular system! Do you use it often? I bet you do, look at the amount of stuff that needs an intravenous application..."
"Wait, you actually know what you're talking about?"
It didn't take long to Cody to open up about his current researches and projects, like his experiments with the xelymtopa virus, or how he was experimenting on the maximization of effects on cyanide based poisons.
You were excited and eager to know, even bringing your own hypothesis on what could happen depending on the person he experiments on, which he appreciates.
Soon enough you were one of Cody's closest friends (and maybe he had a bit of a crush on you too), and were together everywhere, freaking everyone out by your casual talks about deadly diseases and poisonous animals.
Cody, while doing his work on the infirmary with EJ, opened up about how he felt close to you in a deeper level than anything, but he couldn't put a finger on what exactly he felt. EJ advised him to be open with you besides the work talk.
Cody felt confused and even a bit scarred. Open up about feelings? That is not like him at all...
His mind went in circles on how this was a bad idea and how he would lose your friendship, and you were the only one that actually understood what he said for once, but... EJ never wronged him. Why would he be wrong this time, right?
The next day, on the lab, you were working on one of your projects, some vaccines for one of the many viruses samples Cody had, when he came inside the labe with something behind his back.
"Hey, uh, I hope I'm not interrupting but... Can I talk to you for a second?"
After you looked at him and nodded, he basically dumped all of his feelings for you at once, and you couldn't help but giggle at how the usually confident in himself Cody was a blushing and rambling mess.
You did feel the same towards him, and he breathed a sigh of relief. He did have something to give you, your very own test subject. It was a golden poison frog, which was being securely held in a small vivarium.
Let's just say that both of you are probably the deadliest couple in the manor, and that if anyone bothers one of you, the other is very capable of performing inhumane tests on them just out of spite.
Hope you enjoyed it! I am not particularly knowledgeable on Biology, never had very good teachers on the subject, but it was certainly fun to write this. We need more Cody love in the world fr fr.

A worthy quest if ever there was one
If you’re talking about my Moon in particular, he deals in dreamscapes - lures you into a beautiful dream, hooks you in deep as you chase after your greatest desires, conjures moments from your subconscious you might have never seen before but deep down you realise you always wanted …(for those less passionate about particular things in their own lives, the lure of escapism also does the trick nicely) …and before you know it, there you stay. Still alive, but just barely, your life force draining slowly as you unknowingly become a part of the dreamscape he’ll then use to lure others.
He’s aware and in control of what he’s doing, but it’s complicated in that he essentially thinks he’s giving you sweet dreams, just …permanent. I mean, from his perspective, he’s letting you live the life of your dreams, and he does let you leave - it’s just that the lure of the dreamscape tends to perpetually pull people back into its orbit. And it’s not like he himself doesn’t prefer the lure of a good story over the reality of his own obsolescence as a daycare attendant. Nope, he just lives vicariously through those who dream, and he watches as the dreams flicker and burn out, eventually becoming one with the scenery.
Canon Moon? Hm, I think he has a kill count, if not at least having caused severe injuries to people before. Children or adults - whoever was unfortunate enough to fall in his path first after the virus struck. Don’t think he’s fully in control, I think it’s more like an instinct gone wrong kind of deal where his impulses and directives are screaming at him to put the naughty children to bed so they can rest (like he’s supposed to do) but due to the virus he’s mistakenly labeling everyone and everything as “naughty children” virtually non-discriminately and he won’t rest until he’s fulfilled that need to put them to bed. Whether that means something permanent or not.
Moon’s worldview I think is a little skewed and limited by design. He sees blips of daily events when he’s finally active, and he’s been made redundant in his role, and so he longs to fulfil some sort of purpose. I think the virus causes him no end of stress and pain, isolating him from everybody and everything even more than he ever has been before. The Glamrocks at least hunt together. Moon does no such thing. He’s left to his own devices, and even Sun seems to think the best solution would just be for him to NEVER come out for the longest time (he changes his perspective in Ruin but his attempts to keep Moon away before that can’t have helped their relationship any, I think they both spent the longest time not seeing eye to eye and just badly wanting it to be their turn, to the detriment of their collective wellbeing). Poor guy just wants it to be his turn and really really thinks you should be in bed. Maybe you’d get a shot at talking things through with him if he got stuck in the play tunnels like he tends to do in my game. Just try to avoid the grabby Moon claws. I hear they’re laced with sleepy dust.
(Also got an AU where Moon’s confused pseudo-resentment at being no longer wanted and having had people actually want to delete him and leave only Sun runs kind of deeper than that and he’s trying to keep them both safe from perceived threats while simultaneously feeling like Sun’s shadow and almost living his life vicariously through him until he can’t anymore but that’s quite literally another story for another time)

Haha this is a cute idea! Both of my aus unintentionally catch moon right at the beginning of his virus era so
For bethroned:
hurt, yes. Killed? Not yet.
2
He does, but he isn’t fully himself. More in a state of intense paranoia, that sends him into fight or flight mode

HI! Nice quest! :3 Has Moon ever hurt or killed anyone before the virus? yes. How many people has he hurt or killed after the virus? Moon's exact killcount is unsure and unknown. We don't know if the burglars survived after the ambulance or not. Does he have any control when he kills? Is he aware of his actions? Before or after the virus? He's aware most of the time, and he has control. During the virus, he had not.
thamk you!

Happy Mishapocalypse 10-Year Anniversary!
Here are synopses of the award-winning Misha Runner films:
In The Misha Runner, Misha (Misha Collins), an adult man, arrives in a glade at the center of a giant maze. Like the other Mishas dumped there before him, he has no memory of his previous life. Misha quickly becomes part of the group and soon after demonstrates a unique perspective that scores him a promotion to Misha Runner status -- those who patrol the always-changing maze to find an escape route. Together with Misha (Misha Collins), another Misha, Misha tries to convince the other Mishas that he knows a way out.
In The Misha Trials, transported to a remote fortified outpost, Misha and his fellow Mishas find themselves in trouble after uncovering a diabolical plot from the mysterious and powerful organization MISHA. With help from a new Misha, the Mishas stage a daring escape into the Misha Scorch, a desolate landscape filled with dangerous obstacles and crawling with the virus-infected Mishas. The Mishas’ only hope may be to find the Right Misha, a group of resistance fighters who can help them battle MISHA.
In The Misha Cure, Misha leads some escaped Mishas on their final and most dangerously Misha mission yet. To save the other Mishas, they must break into the legendary Misha City, a MISHA-controlled city that may turn out to be the deadliest maze of all. Any Misha who makes it out alive will get answers to the questions that the Mishas have been asking since they arrived in the Maze. Why is everyone Misha?

February Choices Insiders is here! Is it just me or these mails come later and later each month? I used to read them after dinner but it's already past midnight here. Anyway...
Tumblr media
I'm disappointed PB forgot about the existence of male MCs and only teased female premium outfits, though the goth vibe is intriguing.
Tumblr media
*only if you're into men or swing both ways. Otherwise you're sh*t outta luck!
I wonder if PB meant The Deadliest Game by this slasher book or it's a whole different story. 😕
Tumblr media
RWB spin-off finally has a name. I didn't care about the first book and unless the spin-off has GOC MC I won't bother with this one either.
Tumblr media
So, it looks like Along came Treble won't be quite like Platinum. It seems that the MC won't be an aspiring artist this time but a junior manager (read: another rookie) at a record label. And that infamous rockstar LI reminds me of Raleigh who was also a little bit of a rebel.
It's nice that we're finally getting more books again after that stupid Chinese virus messed up our lives. Hopefully this will do well for PB.
